What our customers are saying:

★★★★★
Review: June 22, 2005 Completion: June 23, 2005

This letter is being written to commend two of your Installers (Alex & Tim). It is our feeling that they have worked diligently through all sorts of weather conditions to complete a large and difficult roofing job. In spite of hot, humid conditions and temperatures in the 90s, they have worked to strip the old shingles, install the plywood and new shingles. They have also worked through cool rainy and misty days. For some unknown reason the dumpster was hauled away after their working hours. If my husband hadn't been home to retrieve all their tools, wheelbarrows, harnesses, etc., the tools would have disappeared as well. The men had to finish stripping the old shingles off our porch roof and haul them away in their own personal vehicle. Please be sure to extend our appreciation and satisfaction to your installers for a job well done. They are extremely polite and pleasant young men. It was a joy having them at our house. If only all outside contractors had such devoted and skilled employees. They did a wonderful job at our home.

Metal Roofing FAQs for Homeowners in New Gloucester

The following metal roofing FAQs are designed specifically for homeowners in New Gloucester, Maine. Whether you are building a new home or replacing an existing roof, understanding how roofing materials perform in local weather conditions is essential. From wind and storm protection to fire resistance, hail impact, snow loads, and coastal moisture exposure, Interlock’s Lifetime Aluminum Roofing System is engineered to provide long-term durability, energy efficiency, and peace of mind in New Gloucester.

Does metal roofing handle New Gloucester's heavy snow load and ice dams?

Yes—aluminum's light weight and four-way interlocking design shed snow effectively without the structural strain that slate or concrete tile imposes. New Gloucester receives about 153 cm of snow annually, and Interlock's smooth, sloped profiles promote gravity drainage rather than pooling. The panels' tight seams and standing-seam option minimize ice-dam formation by directing meltwater predictably. Unlike asphalt, which becomes brittle in Maine's freeze-thaw cycles, aluminum remains flexible through the region's ~91 annual freeze-thaw days, reducing panel stress and extending roof life.

Why doesn't aluminum rust like steel roofs in a snowy Maine climate?

Aluminum contains no iron—the element that rusts—so oxidation is chemically impossible. Instead, a natural oxide layer forms on pure aluminum (ASTM B209 3105-H24 / 3003-H24 alloy) and self-heals when scratched, providing permanent corrosion resistance. Interlock adds a Alunar 70% PVDF fluorocarbon finish on both panel sides, a 30-year warranted extra barrier against salt spray and harsh weather. New Gloucester's ~926 mm annual rainfall and coastal humidity from Cumberland County mean standing water and repeated moisture exposure pose no rust risk—a steel roof would require constant maintenance; aluminum does not.

How does metal roofing survive New Gloucester's freeze-thaw cycles without cracking?

Aluminum's natural flexibility absorbs repeated expansion and contraction without brittleness or structural failure. The region endures ~91 freeze-thaw days per year, which fractures rigid materials like asphalt shingles, wood shake, and clay tile; aluminum simply cycles without material degradation. Interlock's four-way interlocking design also allows micro-movement within the panel seams, distributing stress. The non-prorated lifetime limited warranty covers cracking and splitting for the original owner, then transfers to the next owner for 50 years—a direct commitment to freeze-thaw durability that asphalt roofs, which typically fail in 15–20 years in this climate, cannot match.

Can my home's frame support a metal tile roof, or do I need structural reinforcement?

No reinforcement required. Interlock's Mediterranean Tile profile weighs only ~0.59 lb/sq ft—approximately 96% lighter than concrete or clay tile. A typical 2,000 sq ft home roof in concrete tile weighs ~40 tons; in Interlock aluminum it weighs under half a ton. This means the Tile installs directly over most existing roofs and sheathing without engineering upgrades, saving thousands in structural work. Interlock's ICC-ES evaluation (ESR-1790, reissued 2025) confirms compliance with residential load requirements. For New Gloucester homes with aging frames or those where added weight poses risk, aluminum tile delivers authentic appearance without the liability or cost burden of traditional materials.

Will a metal roof blow off in New Gloucester's winter storms and coastal winds?

No. Interlock panels are warranted to resist wind speeds up to 120 mph (193 km/h) when installed to specification. New Gloucester's typical wind gusts reach ~115 km/h, meaning your roof is rated for conditions substantially stronger than the area's worst recorded weather. The four-way interlocking seams lock each panel to its neighbors—horizontal and vertical—so there is no single point of failure. Independent testing (UL 2218 Class 4 impact rating) proves the system's structural integrity under extreme conditions. Combined with proper fastening, this design ensures coastal and ridge-top homes experience zero uplift risk, even during the storms that occasionally exceed regional averages.

Does Interlock metal roofing qualify for hail damage coverage or insurance discounts?

Yes—Interlock achieves UL 2218 Class 4, the highest impact classification available. The warranty even covers perforation from hailstones up to 1.5 inches. Many insurers recognize this rating and offer premium discounts for Class 4 roofs (typically 15–25% reductions), offsetting a portion of material and labor cost. Maine homeowners should contact their agent with the UL 2218 Class 4 documentation and ESR-1790 code report to confirm eligibility. In regions with frequent hail, this rating often translates to tens of thousands in claim avoidance over the roof's lifetime—a direct financial benefit beyond durability.

Is a metal roof worth the upfront cost for a New Gloucester home?

Interlock's lifetime limited, non-prorated warranty and 50-year transfer term position it as the last roof you buy. A typical asphalt roof in New Gloucester's climate lasts 15–20 years before freeze-thaw damage, UV degradation from ~3,051 annual sunshine hours, and heavy snow load force replacement—meaning two to three asphalt roofs over 50 years. Material plus labor for two replacements typically costs $12,000–$18,000; Interlock's higher upfront cost ($8,000–$12,000) amortizes to lower total cost of ownership. The current regional promotion—no payments and no interest until Spring 2027 or 10% off installation—reduces initial financial burden. Resale value gains and elimination of tear-off waste add intangible value that asphalt cannot match.

How much maintenance does a metal roof require compared to asphalt or wood shake?

Virtually none—aluminum requires no sealing, no algae treatment, no wood-preservative reapplication. Asphalt shingles demand cleaning every 3–5 years in Maine's humid climate to prevent moss and algae growth; wood shake demands annual inspection for rot and insect damage; clay tile requires grout resealing. Interlock's non-porous, non-organic aluminum surface resists biological growth naturally. The Alunar finish is CALGreen-verified for reduced maintenance. In New Gloucester's ~926 mm annual rainfall environment, gutters and flashing require the same upkeep as any roof, but the panels themselves are inspection-free for decades. This translates to $0 ongoing maintenance cost versus $500–$1,200 per decade for competing materials.

Who installs Interlock metal roofs in New Gloucester, and how long have they served the area?

Interlock Metal Roofing (New England) Inc. has served Cumberland County and the surrounding region since 1999—over two decades of local expertise and completed installations. Their familiarity with New Gloucester's climate extremes—153 cm of snow, ~115 km/h winter gusts, and 91 freeze-thaw days annually—informs proper installation techniques that maximize durability. They understand local building codes (ESR-1790 compliance), permit workflows, and weather windows for roof installation. Engaging a local, experienced installer reduces miscommunication, ensures warranty validity, and provides long-term accountability. The current promotion through Interlock Metal Roofing (New England) Inc.—no payments and no interest until Spring 2027 or 10% off—applies directly to their installations in your area.

Can you install a new metal roof over my existing asphalt shingles without tearing them off?

Yes—Interlock's light weight (~0.41–0.59 lb/sq ft depending on profile) permits installation directly over existing asphalt, wood shake, or tile in most cases, provided sheathing and flashing are sound. This eliminates the landfill waste and labor cost of tear-off. A solid substrate and proper underlayment ensure the new roof is installed to code (ICC-ES ESR-1790) and warranty specifications. Timeline depends on home size, weather, and existing roof condition; most residential projects in New England complete within 2–5 days of active installation. The process also reduces disruption and debris—a significant advantage over traditional roofing. Interlock Metal Roofing (New England) Inc. will assess your specific roof during a consultation to confirm over-layment feasibility and provide timeline details.
