Interlock® Aluminum Roofing — all-climates performance specs for Northbridge, Massachusetts
| Spec / Rating | Climate / Risk Factor + What It Solves |
|---|---|
| Wind resistance: 120+ mph (193+ kph) | Extreme wind, hurricanes, storm uplift: full interlocking attachment helps prevent blow-offs, edge lifting, and panel loss in high-gust events. |
| Fire rating: Class A (with proper assembly) | Wildfire, embers, radiant heat, chimney sparks: non-combustible roof assembly provides the highest residential fire protection rating. |
| Hail resistance: UL 2218 Class 4 | Hail and impact debris: highest impact classification; resists cracking, splitting, and surface loss common with asphalt under hail strikes. |
| Snow & ice performance: interlocking, shedding profile | Heavy snow, freeze-thaw, ice dams: smooth aluminum sheds snow efficiently and the interlocking design helps block water intrusion when melt-refreeze cycles occur. (Final snow-load capacity depends on roof structure and local code.) |
| Corrosion resistance: aluminum (won’t rust) | Salt air, coastal humidity, wet climates: aluminum naturally resists rust and corrosion, reducing long-term failure risk in marine or high-moisture environments. |
| Heat / UV durability: baked-on coating system | High heat, intense sun, thermal cycling: coatings resist UV breakdown and temperature-swing fatigue, slowing fading and surface degradation. |
| Moss / algae resistance: smooth coated surface | Wet shade, organic growth: low-porosity metal surface gives moss/algae less to grip, reducing staining and maintenance. |
| Material: heavy-gauge aluminum roof profiles (Slate / Shake / Shingle / Tile / Standing Seam) | All-season structural stability: lightweight, dent-resistant metal system stays stable through large hot-cold swings and severe weather. |
| Expected lifespan: 50+ years | Long-term durability across climates: avoids re-roof cycles typical of shorter-life materials, even in high-stress environments. |

What our customers are saying:
Critical: Responsiveness Our original roof that was installed in 2011 is fine, but, like other reviewers, it has been impossible to get a quote for a roof on an addition we are planning. The contractor has tried multiple times to get a quote and was repeatedly told they would relay to request. When he got nowhere, I called and was told Jennifer, the installation coordinator, was out sick, but they would send her an email. They agreed to cc me on the email, but they never did. I just tried calling and had to leave a voice message. Does your company want more business or not?! Service: Roof installation --- Response from the owner: Hi Barbara, I understand Mike Rasmussen has been in touch with your husband and your contractor regarding your project, and it’s in the works. Please don't hesitate to contact me directly if you have any questions or concerns. Thanks, Scott Interlock Metal Roofing Never Re-Roof Again.® with New England's Best Roof™ [email protected] "> 1-866-319-8769

Not to many companies care about their customer after the job is done Interlock is different they respond right away. Service: Roof installation
No more problems with moss and lichens, like I had with the " target="\_blank" rel="noopener">asphalt shingles. I am extremely happy with my new Interlock Roofing System and to think it has a lifetime warranty. There have been several rainstorms that last couple of weeks and to me the metal roof had added no additional noise at all. The flat roof is also a welcomed addition. The material quality is tip-notch throughout. A flat roof will normally wear out first; however, this also comes with a lifetime " data-wpil-keyword-link="linked">warranty. I have been impressed with Interlock from my first awareness at the local home show. I also did investigation through the " target="\_blank" rel="noopener">Better Business Bureau. During all interaction with Interlock, employees have been professional and courteous. The sales presentations were very informative. I was also able to visit half dozen houses locally that had had Interlock Roofing Systems installed. The benefits of the Interlock roof over an asphalt roof are numerous. In these days of rising energy costs and the high price of fuel, the expected energy savings are welcome. I will also be able to take advantage of the energy credit on my taxes this year. The fact that the ">roofing material deflects the heat versus absorbing it will make the house cooler during the summer months. Working with the installation team of Finn and Alex was a delight. The attention they gave to making sure things were done right was greatly appreciated. From the moment they arrived in the morning, till they went home at night, they were constantly working. During the installation period, there were several rainstorms. Alex and Finn always made sure they had things buttoned up before the storm started. We were lucky enough to get a couple of good days and they took advantage of them by working between 10 and 11 hours those days. If I saw anything that I did not like, it was quickly addressed or the explanation was given why it had to be done that way. The answer was always acceptable to me. They took the time to help me understand the various installation tasks. The longevity of Finn and Alex’s careers with Interlock are testimony to Interlock as a company, their product knowledge and experience levels, and work quality. I would highly recommend Interlock Industries roofs to others.
Dear Mr. Michael Baldassari, My wife and I would like to express our satisfaction with your metal roof installation on our house. The roof was installed in late November of 2009, only a few days before we received our first major snow fall. Your roofing crew was extremely professional and their work exceeded our expectations. They installed our roof in an efficient and careful manner; working tirelessly for two and a half days. At completion, they did a fantastic job of cleaning up the yard around the house. In particular, we have really appreciated one of the advantages that your ">metal roof offers. Snow easily slides off and does not build up a snow load. After the second snow fall, I gave away my snow rake knowing that I would never again have to get on an extension ladder to clear a two and a half story roof. Due to the size of our roof, in the past, this task has taken several hours and has been somewhat hazardous. I certainly won't miss this "pleasurable task" of home ownership. Last week on Thursday evening, the 25th of February, we had rain, snow and wind gusts up to 68 miles per hour for several hours. The roof received punishing forces from the wind as well as flying debris from tree branches and pine cones. We were a little concerned that we would see roof damage the next morning. However, upon inspection, the roof remained intact. The resistance to such forces demonstrates how well the metal ">roof has been installed and the topnotch quality of the metal roofing material itself. Knowing that we will never have to replace our roof again has convinced us more than ever that we made a wise investment. The aesthetics of the black ">metal roof has added a richness and quality finish to our home which we will enjoy for many years to come.
I had my roof installed in May 2003. I noticed the coating had some peeling in 2021. I contacted them in the beginning 0f June 2021 and by the end of June they had approved my claim. It took 8 months but they replaced my entire roof with no charge at all to me.
I recently had Interlock Roofing System installed on my house; I was greatly pleased and surprised by the prompt and professional manner in which it was installed. My house, being older, required much work (new plywood panelling, and I requested additional work (new chimney, venting, window, solar tunnel, removal of an old venting window, and removal of a light panel). The roofing system looks great. As my neighbor said. "I never thought I would say this about a roof, but your roof looks gorgeous." I would recommend the Interlock Roofing System to anyone.

Metal Roofing FAQs for Homeowners in Northbridge
The following metal roofing FAQs are designed specifically for homeowners in Northbridge, Massachusetts. Whether you are building a new home or replacing an existing roof, understanding how roofing materials perform in local weather conditions is essential. From wind and storm protection to fire resistance, hail impact, snow loads, and coastal moisture exposure, Interlock’s Lifetime Aluminum Roofing System is engineered to provide long-term durability, energy efficiency, and peace of mind in Northbridge.
Will a metal roof handle New England's freeze-thaw cycles better than asphalt or slate?
Yes—aluminum's oxide layer actually strengthens when exposed to freeze-thaw stress, whereas asphalt becomes brittle and slate can crack. Northbridge experiences about 83 freeze-thaw days per year, and aluminum expands and contracts uniformly without degrading. The four-way interlocking panels (ESR-1790 certified) accommodate this movement without splitting or curling. Slate and wood roofs in freeze-thaw climates like yours develop fractures within 15–25 years; aluminum maintains its integrity across the 83+ annual cycles your town sees.
Why can't aluminum rust, and does that matter for Northbridge winters?
Aluminum contains no iron, so rust is chemically impossible. The material forms a self-healing oxide layer that instantly reforms if scratched—a critical advantage during Northbridge's 1198 mm of annual rain and 76 cm of snow, when metal is constantly exposed to moisture. Steel roofing, by contrast, requires paint or coatings to prevent rust; once they fail, corrosion accelerates. The Alunar 70% PVDF fluorocarbon finish (30-year warranty against chalking and fading) adds durability on top of aluminum's inherent non-corrosive nature, making it ideal for your wet-winter environment.
How does a metal roof handle heavy snow loads and ice dams in Massachusetts winters?
Interlock metal roofing panels shed snow and ice far more effectively than asphalt because their smooth, interlocking surface prevents ice damming. Northbridge receives about 76 cm of snow annually and experiences freeze-thaw cycles that cause traditional roofs to trap ice at the eaves; the metal's thermal conductivity and low friction reduce that risk. The four-way interlocking design (ESR-1790, IBC/IRC compliant) distributes loads evenly and resists the stress of heavy wet snow. Snow guards are available if you want to control shedding—unlike slate or wood shake, metal won't split under the weight.
With all the rain Northbridge gets, how leak-proof is a metal roof?
Northbridge averages 1198 mm of rain per year—more than many U.S. cities—and the four-way interlocking aluminum panels shed water faster than shingles or shakes. Each panel interlocks on all four sides, creating a nearly seamless surface; water runs off rather than pooling or seeping into laps. ESR-1790 certification confirms the design meets IRC water-penetration standards. When installed over a solid deck with roofing underlayment (standard practice), the system functions like a two-stage defense: the panels shed, and the underlayment catches any seepage. Asphalt shingles develop granule loss and leaks much sooner in high-rainfall climates.
Can metal roofing stand up to the wind gusts we get here in Worcester County?
Northbridge experiences typical wind gusts around 118 km/h, and Interlock panels are warranted to resist 120 mph (193 km/h) winds when installed to specification—more than the gusts you face. The four-way interlocking design means each panel locks to its neighbors on top, bottom, and sides; a single gust cannot lift or peel back individual shingles the way it can with asphalt. The panels also weigh only 0.41–0.59 lb/sq ft depending on profile, so wind pressure is lower than on heavier materials. After more than 25 years in service across North America, the interlocking system has proven itself in hurricane and tornado zones.
Do I need to reinforce my roof structure for a metal roof, or can it go over my existing roof?
No reinforcement needed. Interlock metal panels are extraordinarily light—the Mediterranean Tile profile installs at just 0.59 lb/sq ft, about 96% lighter than concrete or clay tile. Northbridge homes are built for asphalt shingles (about 2–3 lb/sq ft), so metal roofing actually reduces structural load. You can install Interlock panels directly over most existing roofs, saving the cost and landfill impact of a tear-off. Older homes with slate or tile that would require structural work can now be reroofed without expensive reinforcement—a major advantage for heritage properties in your region.
What's the hail rating on Interlock metal roofing, and could it lower my insurance?
Interlock metal roofing carries a UL 2218 Class 4 impact rating—the highest available—and is warranted against perforation from hailstones up to 1.5 inches. While Northbridge's climate history doesn't emphasize hail, the Class 4 rating means impact resistance far exceeds asphalt, wood, or slate. Many insurers offer premium discounts for Class 4 roofs because claims are rare. The aluminum won't dent like steel, and the coating resists damage from smaller hail events. If you live in a region with occasional severe weather, the impact rating alone can justify metal roofing costs through insurance savings over the warranty period.
How much maintenance does a metal roof really need compared to asphalt or wood shake?
Metal roofing requires almost none. Asphalt shingles need inspection every 3–5 years, break down faster in Northbridge's 1198 mm annual rainfall, and require tar or sealant touch-ups. Wood shake splits during freeze-thaw cycles (about 83 days per year in your area) and must be treated regularly to prevent rot. Interlock aluminum panels need only a visual inspection once yearly and an occasional rinse if debris accumulates in valleys—the Alunar 70% PVDF coating (30-year warranty) does the rest. The metal itself cannot rot, rust, or split, so your only real maintenance is keeping gutters clear. Over a 50-year lifespan, that's a dramatic savings in time and money.
What warranty comes with Interlock metal roofing, and how long will it actually last in Massachusetts?
The Guardian Warranty is lifetime limited, non-prorated for the original owner, covering rusting, rotting, splitting, cracking, curling, and loss of impact resistance. It's transferable once, giving the next owner 50 years from completion—a powerful selling point if you ever move. Interlock has been manufactured since 1998 and installed from coastal salt-air homes to Antarctic research stations, proving the material's durability across extremes. In Northbridge's moderate climate—1198 mm rain, 76 cm snow, about 83 freeze-thaw days—you should easily see 60–80+ years of service. Asphalt lasts 15–25 years; slate 40–100 but requires maintenance and repair; this warranty gives you certainty that asphalt cannot match.
Is metal roofing actually more environmentally friendly than standard asphalt shingles?
Yes. Interlock aluminum is approximately 95% recyclable at end of life, whereas asphalt shingles end up in landfills—millions of tons annually from tear-offs. Because metal roofing lasts 60+ years versus asphalt's 15–25, you eliminate the tear-off cycle entirely. A single Northbridge roof replacement with asphalt means decades of shingle waste; with metal, you install once and recycle the aluminum decades later. The material's longevity also means fewer manufacturing cycles and less embodied energy over the roof's lifetime. CALGreen verification confirms reduced maintenance impact. If you care about landfill reduction and the circular economy, metal roofing ends the asphalt-to-dump pipeline that most homeowners never question.
