What our customers are saying:

★★★★★
Review: October 27, 2022 Completion: October 18, 2022

I think that the installers were phenomenal. Interlock Roofing could improve by keeping the clients more up to date. I had to call numerous times to check on start date.

Review: October 25, 2022 Completion: September 26, 2022

Be sure to have a penalty for exceeding time limits. They could improve on communication and adherence to the contract period of installation. The product is great and the installers were fabulous. Feedback for #1: The management was very bad, but the roof looks very good and it is rated very highly, so I was able to get a reduction in my insurance. Additional Comments: Other than being ambivalent on the fact it took so long to get it done, we checked out the product, so we felt it was a good product. One thing that would have done a lot more, is to actually do emails or put it in writing so the customer actually knows what is going on during that period of expected service. I would have been more than willing to wait longer on the issue but because they were already exceeding the contract by the time I had to contact someone else to intervene, I have to say kudos to the interventionist.

Review: August 20, 2024 Completion: August 13, 2024

From the start to finish, we loved their work and communication. There were no nails, metal bits, or excessive noise. They listened to all questions and addressed our concerns. They were careful to make no promise of a start date that they could not fulfill. The rain this year made it hard to predict! I would do a commercial for them free to endorse their work and product!

Metal Roofing FAQs for Homeowners in Battle Creek

The following metal roofing FAQs are designed specifically for homeowners in Battle Creek, Minnesota. Whether you are building a new home or replacing an existing roof, understanding how roofing materials perform in local weather conditions is essential. From wind and storm protection to fire resistance, hail impact, snow loads, and coastal moisture exposure, Interlock’s Lifetime Aluminum Roofing System is engineered to provide long-term durability, energy efficiency, and peace of mind in Battle Creek.

How does a metal roof handle Battle Creek's heavy snow and freeze-thaw cycles?

Metal roofs shed snow more effectively than asphalt because aluminum's smooth, hard surface resists ice adhesion—critical when you're facing about 94 cm of snow annually and roughly 81 freeze-thaw days per year. The four-way interlocking panels lock together so tightly that snow load distributes evenly across the deck, and the lightweight aluminum (the Shingle at just 0.41 lb/sq ft) means your existing structure handles the weight without reinforcement. Unlike wood shakes that absorb moisture and crack, aluminum's oxide layer never rots and actively self-heals when scratched. Snow guards are available if you want additional control over shedding patterns.

Will a metal roof crack or fail from Minnesota's freeze-thaw cycling?

No—aluminum alloy (ASTM B209 roofing-grade 3105-H24) expands and contracts uniformly with temperature swings and won't crack, warp, or split like wood shakes or concrete tile do over roughly 81 freeze-thaw cycles annually. The Alunar 70% PVDF fluorocarbon coating (warranted 30 years against chalking and fading per ASTM D4214) protects the metal surface, while the oxide layer self-heals microscopic scratches that occur during seasonal stress. Traditional slate roofs fracture in these conditions; clay tile absorbs moisture and spalls. The Guardian warranty even covers cracking and splitting—because aluminum simply won't do either.

Can an aluminum metal roof rust in Minnesota winters?

Aluminum cannot rust—it contains no iron, the element that oxidizes and degrades in wet, freeze-thaw climates. Instead, aluminum forms a transparent oxide layer that actually protects the metal underneath and self-heals when scratched, making it ideal for a region averaging 843 mm of annual rainfall and high humidity from melting snow. Steel roofs rust; aluminum does not. The Alunar 70% PVDF coating adds a second barrier of protection, and The Guardian warranty explicitly covers rusting as part of its lifetime limited coverage for the original owner. After 25+ years of installations across salt-air coasts and wet climates, Interlock's aluminum roofs show no corrosion.

Will wind gusts tear off or damage a metal roof in Minnesota storms?

The four-way interlocking aluminum panels are warranted to resist wind speeds up to 120 mph (193 km/h), far exceeding Battle Creek's typical gusts around 95 km/h. The interlocking design—each panel locked on all four edges—distributes wind pressure across the entire roof assembly rather than concentrating stress on fasteners. The UL 2218 Class 4 impact rating (highest available) means the panels also resist hail perforation up to 1.5 inches. During installation, panels are secured per ESR-1790 specifications, which accounts for regional wind loading. You're getting protection that exceeds what local wind conditions demand.

Can I get an insurance discount for a metal roof?

Yes, many insurers offer discounts for roofs rated UL 2218 Class 4—the highest impact classification available. Interlock's aluminum panels earn this rating and are warranted against hail perforation up to 1.5 inches, so even severe hailstorms won't crack or puncture the roof like asphalt shingles or clay tile would. Some insurers recognize that metal roofs reduce claim frequency and may lower your premium; contact your agent with the UL 2218 Class 4 rating and the 30-year coating warranty to discuss potential savings. In a region where hail risk is real, the combination of impact resistance and transferable warranty (50 years for the next owner) adds measurable financial protection.

Does my house need structural reinforcement for a metal roof in Battle Creek?

No structural reinforcement is needed. Interlock's aluminum panels are extraordinarily light—the Mediterranean Tile profile weighs about 0.59 lb/sq ft, roughly 96% lighter than concrete or clay tile—so your existing roof framing easily supports the load. Most homes can install Interlock directly over an existing asphalt roof, eliminating costly tear-off. The standing seam and shingle profiles are even lighter. This matters in Minnesota's snowy climate (about 94 cm annually) because the lightweight metal distributes snow load safely without added framing cost. Steel roofs and slate require expensive structural upgrades; aluminum does not.

Will a metal roof reduce cooling costs in Minnesota summers?

energy-efficient colors reflect heat that asphalt absorbs, reducing cooling demand during Minnesota's roughly 3,110 annual sunshine hours. The Aged Copper Penny finish achieves initial solar reflectance up to 0.55 and thermal emissivity of 0.84, meaning it bounces summer heat away while releasing absorbed heat at night. Battle Creek's climate (mean 8.1°C annually) means summer cooling isn't the primary concern, but reflective metal roofing still lowers peak temperatures and reduces strain on air conditioning. Over a 50+ year roof life, this efficiency compounds. The Cool Roof Rating Council verification confirms the energy performance—a measurable advantage asphalt shingles don't offer.

How much maintenance does a metal roof require compared to asphalt?

Metal roofs require far less maintenance than asphalt, wood, or tile. Asphalt shingles degrade under Minnesota's 843 mm annual rainfall and 81 freeze-thaw cycles, requiring regular inspections and repairs; wood shakes absorb moisture and rot; clay tile cracks in freeze-thaw stress. Aluminum doesn't rot, crack, curl, or split. The Alunar 70% PVDF coating (30-year warranty) resists dirt accumulation and weathering without special treatment. Occasional gutter cleaning and debris removal is normal, but you won't need roof repairs, sealing, or premature replacement. The Guardian warranty covers maintenance-free performance for the original owner for life—no annual inspections or costly interventions required.

Can I install a metal roof over my existing asphalt shingles?

Yes, in most cases—one of metal roofing's strongest advantages. Because Interlock aluminum panels are so lightweight (Shingle at 0.41 lb/sq ft), they install directly over existing asphalt without tear-off, saving you thousands in labor and avoiding landfill waste. The installer verifies your roof deck and existing condition, then installs the metal panels per ESR-1790 specifications. A solid deck and quality underlayment (installed to spec) ensure a quiet roof—metal roofs with proper installation are as quiet as asphalt in rain. Installation typically takes days, not weeks, minimizing disruption. Interlock, serving the region since 2001, handles the entire process locally.

How does metal roofing cost compare to asphalt over time?

Metal roofing costs more upfront but becomes your last roof—the true value emerges over 50+ years. An asphalt roof lasts 15–20 years in Minnesota's harsh climate (843 mm rain, 94 cm snow, 81 freeze-thaw days annually); you'll replace it 2–3 times during one Interlock roof's lifetime. The Guardian warranty is lifetime limited for the original owner and transferable (50 years from completion for the next owner), covering rusting, rotting, cracking, and splitting—costs asphalt owners face repeatedly. Add the 30-year coating warranty, no structural reinforcement needed, and minimal maintenance, and the per-year cost drops below asphalt. After 30 years, while neighbors replace asphalt again, your roof still earns insurance discounts and boosts resale appeal.

Is a metal roof a good choice for Battle Creek’s climate?

Yes. Battle Creek averages about 94 cm of snow, 843 mm of rain, roughly 81 freeze–thaw days a year, with peak wind gusts near 95 km/h. Interlock® aluminum roofing is wind-rated to 193+ km/h (120 mph), UL 2218 Class 4 impact-rated and Class A fire-rated, and its four-way interlocking panels shed snow and resist ice dams and freeze–thaw cracking — all backed by a lifetime limited, transferable warranty.
