From the start to finish, we loved their work and communication. There were no nails, metal bits, or excessive noise. They listened to all questions and addressed our concerns. They were careful to make no promise of a start date that they could not fulfill. The rain this year made it hard to predict! I would do a commercial for them free to endorse their work and product!

Hi Peter, we wanted to convey to you how much we love our new Interlock roof! Several of our neighbors and friends have said they do, too! We love the look of it, and are so impressed with how beautifully finished it is integrated into the flashing materials. The Interlock scheduling staff was great to work with, and we are so happy with Jessie and his Interlock installation team. They are true craftsmen, and part artists! We loved how they treated our home with respect, and were always willing to address any questions we had. We watched as they worked on items until they had them just right; when we asked about some areas of concern multiple members of the installation team converged on the item and came down to explain and even illustrate with photographs how it was addressed. Again, we couldn't be happier and are enjoying our Interlock roof!

To: Peter Brylinke My Interlock Shake style system was installed in June of 2019. We have now had it for an entire year and experienced the roof through all season, climate and weather conditions. Not only do we value the new look of our roof but the performance of the new roof has been exceptional. In the winter we have seen the snow pile up on it only to slide off as soon as the sun warms it enough. We have noticed a difference in the summers also with a cooler house. The roof has met all of our expectations and we are extremely happy with our decision to install this roof. Last summer when the workers were working on the roof, we were so pleased with the time and effort the workmen put into making sure all aspects of our roof were taken care of. They were courteous, hard working, respectful and considerate of our needs as homeowners. Carlos was instrumental in making sure that we were happy with every aspect of the work that was being done. In closing, we are very impressed with our roof and have recommended this same system to many people we know and many people who just " data-wpil-keyword-link="linked">walk by and ask about it. We feel that we have made a great decision in putting this system on our home. ">" alt="Minneapolis MN 55409 Interlock Roof" width="2560" height="1920" />

Dear Peter, Thank you for your help with the installation and warranty transfer of our interlock roof. We have since sold our house and had good feedback about our roof from potential buyers. Neighbors loved our new roof and we had people drive by and actually snap pictures of it! You were right that the new roof would help sell our home! Thanks for all your help!

Dear Peter, I had Interlock Roofing install my black slate roof in the fall one year ago, and I couldn’t be happier! My roof still looks like new, and really stands out in my neighborhood. My old asphalt shingle roof was leaking. I had to shovel it every time it snowed because of " title="ice dams" data-wpil-keyword-link="linked">ice dams in my older 1950’s house. I have had no issues at all with my new Interlock roof. It was so nice only to have to shovel my driveway this winter and not worry about snow on the roof. It all just slid off in only a few days after each snowfall. Also, the team that you had out to install my roof was exceptional. I was very impressed with the quality of the team that installed my roof. They were all very polite and worked well together as a team. They worked very hard, and got the job done, and completed in less than three days. I’ve never had to have anyone come back to fix or touch anything up. Thank you for the great job the Interlock team did to replace my roof. I would recommend Interlock to anyone needing a new roof without hesitation!

Dear Peter, We remain delighted with our new Interlock roof. It’s now been through 2 Minnesota winters, a hailstorm, and several rain deluges and is still the top-notch performer that you said it would be. Thank you for your and Interlock’s integrity throughout the sale, installation, and service of our roofing project. We remain convinced that Interlock is indeed “the Midwest’s Best Roof”.

Dear Peter, I Wanted to let you know how pleased I am with my new Interlock roof. It looks terrific, and I am anticipating that I will never have to roof rake my roof again now that your product has been installed. My house is small, a 3-bedroom rambler, but the visual impact the Interlock roof has added makes it look like a castle! All of the contact I have had with your personnel, from yourself to the lead foreman on the job and the men doing the install was pleasant and professional. The cleanup after the job was done was great and it only took 1-1/2 days for a complete tear-off to complete the installation. Please use this letter as a personal recommendation for your company and your product.

Dear Peter, Installing the Interlock roof on our home has completely transformed and improved our home’s appearance. The installation of the roof along with the greatly improved flashings have made a great difference. Because of that, our stucco was able to match our home so we look like new. An improvement I didn’t expect was the change in temperature of our second floor. Usually unbearable " data-wpil-keyword-link="linked">hot on a 90-degree day. It’s now 10-15 degree cooler and livable. We also received a sizeable discount on our homeowners’ insurance because of the roof’s resistance to fire. We’re sure that having to “Never roof again” will help us sell our house should that be necessary. Thank you from two satisfied customers.

Review: January 28, 2016 Completion: December 28, 2015

My Interlock ">Shake Style Roof in Aged Copper color was installed between December 21st and December 31st. Snow has covered most of the house and garage since it was installed, so I haven’t been able to enjoy the new look yet, but during the installation and before the snow it was obvious it I going to look great. I am glad I had them put Interlock ">Shakes on my 8ft x 16ft hip-roofed storage shed as well. There are a lot of huge oak trees close to my house and they had caused the heavy cedar hand-split shakes to deteriorate from moss growing on them. I knew I needed a roof that would not have this problem in the future. I am a retired mechanical engineer and had built the house and garage myself. I studied the specs on steel, stone coated steel and several aluminum style shakes, before finally settling on the Interlock product. I believe it will prove to be a good choice. I was very impressed with the quality and design of all the types of flashings, ridge vent, and fasteners that were expertly installed. I truly expect this roof to last and look great for generations. I was also very impressed with the crew who did the work under Juan and Carlos’ direction. They worked tirelessly in some difficult weather conditions and short daylight hours. A number of minor changes were made on the fly with gutters, snow guards and roof penetrations and they were all executed precisely. They were very careful in making sure the roofs were protected overnight, on weekends and during the Christmas holiday. They did a great job of cleaning up the difficult mess made removing the decayed shakes. I guess I won’t know for sure if there are any problems until we get some heavy rains in the spring and summer, but as of now, I would be happy to show the roof and talk to any prospective clients that are considering the Interlock product.

Review: May 21, 2012 Completion: June 30, 2007

Dear Interlock Roofing, We are writing to share with you our experience with you, your employees, and the new roof. We built a brand new home and moved in January 1997. Within a few years, we were experiencing shingles that were curling and being removed by the wind. By the summer of 2007, it was imperative that we re-roof our home. Fortunately, we saw an ad in the local paper for your product. Below are just a few of the benefits we appreciate with the aluminum interlocking roofing shingles: The service and attention to our roofing project by Scott Bohnen from signing the contract to follow-up after the installation. The fact that the workforce followed safety procedures by wearing safety gear (we have a steep roof). Daily attention to our project until it was completed, about one week in total. Aesthetically pleasing roof, with numerous comments by friends and neighbors and those just passing by. EXCELLENT CURB APPEAL! The roof is quieter during rain storms than with regular asphalt shingles. We often have to verify that it is raining by visually looking or going outside. The roof reflects light so that we have experienced reduced air conditioning costs in the summer. In the winter, the heating bill is reduced as well and that may be in part to the aluminum shingle along with the polypropylene lining between the old and new shingles. No matter the reason, our heating and cooling bills are reduced. The fact that the roof is aluminum and it can be recycled at the end of its life expectancy. The 50-year, one time transferable, warranty. We could go on and on but we are very pleased with our roof and thankful that we will never have to re-roof again. Thank you.

Metal Roofing FAQs for Homeowners in Harris

The following metal roofing FAQs are designed specifically for homeowners in Harris, Minnesota. Whether you are building a new home or replacing an existing roof, understanding how roofing materials perform in local weather conditions is essential. From wind and storm protection to fire resistance, hail impact, snow loads, and coastal moisture exposure, Interlock’s Lifetime Aluminum Roofing System is engineered to provide long-term durability, energy efficiency, and peace of mind in Harris.

How does a metal roof handle Harris's snow and ice buildup?

Metal roofs shed snow and ice more effectively than asphalt because the smooth, hard surface resists accumulation and the light weight—about 0.41 lb/sq ft for the Shingle profile—won't sag under Harris's annual 92 cm of snow. The four-way interlocking panels create a unified, low-friction plane; snow slides cleanly rather than bridging and forming ice dams. With about 83 freeze-thaw cycles per year in this region, the aluminum's oxide layer remains intact through repeated temperature swings, while asphalt becomes brittle and cracks. Snow guards can be added if you want to manage runoff timing, but the roof itself handles the weight and freeze-thaw stress without degradation.

Will freeze-thaw cycles damage an aluminum metal roof in Minnesota winters?

No. Aluminum has no iron content, so it cannot rust or corrode from freeze-thaw cycling, and its oxide layer self-heals when scratched—a critical advantage through Harris's roughly 83 freeze-thaw days per year. Unlike asphalt shingles, which become brittle and crack, or steel panels, which develop rust at expansion joints, aluminum simply expands and contracts predictably without material degradation. The Alunar 70% PVDF fluorocarbon coating on both sides is warranted 30 years against chalking and fading, meaning your roof maintains color and structural integrity through decades of Minnesota winters. This durability is why Interlock panels have performed from coastal salt-air climates to Antarctic research stations.

Can my house support a metal roof, or do I need structural reinforcement?

Most Harris homes need zero structural work. The Mediterranean Tile profile, which replicates heavy slate or clay tile, installs at only 0.59 lb/sq ft—about 96% lighter than authentic tile or concrete. This extraordinary light weight means you can install over your existing roof, avoiding costly tear-off and structural upgrades. Asphalt shingles weigh roughly 2–3 lb/sq ft; Interlock's profiles range from 0.41 to 0.59 lb/sq ft, so you're actually reducing load on your framing. ICC-ES evaluation ESR-1790 confirms compliance with building codes; your local installer verifies your specific roof during the assessment. The lightweight advantage also means faster installation and no hidden costs.

Why should I choose aluminum roofing instead of steel in Minnesota's wet climate?

Aluminum cannot rust because it contains no iron. Instead, it forms a self-healing oxide layer that protects against Harris's annual 778 mm of rainfall and the region's damp freeze-thaw cycles. Steel roofing rusts at panel edges, fastener holes, and expansion joints—problems that accelerate in high-moisture climates. Interlock panels use roofing-grade 3105-H24 and 3003-H24 aluminum alloy (ASTM B209) with Alunar 70% PVDF fluorocarbon coating applied to both sides, warranted 30 years. This dual-coat protection is especially valuable in Minnesota's 83 annual freeze-thaw days, where water repeatedly enters and refreezes in steel's joints. Aluminum simply won't corrode, no matter how many wet-freeze cycles Minnesota throws at it.

Will my metal roof hold up in Harris's windy weather?

Yes. Interlock roofs are warranted to resist wind speeds up to 120 mph, well beyond Harris's typical daily-max winds of about 18 km/h and gusts reaching 100 km/h. The four-way interlocking aluminum panels lock together mechanically, distributing wind load across the entire roof rather than relying on fasteners alone. UL 2218 Class 4 impact rating confirms the system's structural integrity under extreme stress. Local installation to specification is key—your Interlock Metal Roofing installer, serving this region since 2001, knows exactly how to secure panels for Minnesota conditions. Once installed, the roof moves as one unified assembly, and the lightweight panels (0.41–0.59 lb/sq ft) experience less wind-induced flutter than heavy asphalt or tile.

Does a metal roof protect against hail, and can it lower my insurance costs?

Interlock achieves UL 2218 Class 4, the highest impact rating available—warranted even against perforation from hailstones up to 1.5 inches. This non-combustible aluminum construction and impact resistance often qualify homeowners for insurance discounts; contact your agent with the UL 2218 Class 4 certification and Guardian Warranty details. Minnesota's hail season and severe convective storms make this rating valuable peace of mind. Unlike asphalt, which dents and splits easily, or slate, which cracks, aluminum's strength is proven. Your warranty covers impact damage, and the roof's durability means fewer claims over time. Many insurers recognize that Class 4 metal roofs reduce long-term risk, translating to measurable savings on your premium.

What warranty covers an Interlock metal roof, and how long will it really last?

The Guardian Warranty is a lifetime limited, non-prorated material warranty for the original owner, covering rusting, rotting, splitting, cracking, curling, and loss of impact resistance. It's transferable once, giving the next owner 50 years from completion—a powerful selling point if you move. The Alunar coating itself carries a 30-year fade and chalk warranty (ASTM D4214/D2244 measured). In practical terms, aluminum roofs installed by Interlock since 1998 in Delta, BC have demonstrated 25+ years in field service, including harsh coastal and arctic conditions. Harris's 92 cm annual snow, 778 mm rain, and 83 freeze-thaw days won't compromise the material; aluminum doesn't rot, rust, or lose impact resistance like asphalt, wood, or traditional tile. This is genuinely a roof that outlasts the house—or at least the owner.

Is a metal roof worth the upfront cost compared to asphalt shingles over time?

Metal roofing costs more initially but eliminates the asphalt replacement cycle. A typical asphalt roof lasts 15–20 years in Minnesota's 83 freeze-thaw days and wet climate; you'll replace it twice while an Interlock roof covers you for 40+ years with zero structural reinforcement needed. The Guardian Warranty's lifetime coverage (non-prorated for the original owner, 50 years transferable) means you avoid emergency repairs and the labor cost of tear-offs every 15–20 years. Over 40 years, asphalt's cumulative cost—materials, labor, landfill fees, repeated disruption—exceeds the single metal roof installation. Energy savings from energy-efficient colors with up to 0.55 solar reflectance further offset initial investment. For homeowners planning to stay long-term or prioritizing permanent durability, metal becomes the economical choice.

How much maintenance does a metal roof require compared to asphalt or tile?

Metal roofing requires significantly less maintenance than asphalt, wood shake, or tile. Asphalt shingles need inspections and repairs after hail, wind, or freeze-thaw stress—common in Harris's 83 freeze-thaw cycles and gusts to 100 km/h annually. Wood shake splits and rots in Minnesota's wet climate and freeze-thaw cycles. Traditional tile cracks and requires frequent pointing. Interlock aluminum roofs are CALGreen-verified for reduced maintenance: no algae growth, no rot, no impact damage requiring repair, and no seasonal debris trapping moisture. Twice-yearly gutter cleaning is standard for any roof; beyond that, you're inspecting rather than repairing. The four-way interlocking panels resist water infiltration, so leaks are rare. Rain at 778 mm annually will keep the roof clean. Most owners simply enjoy their roof without intervention.

Is there a local installer experienced with metal roofing in Harris and Chisago County?

Yes. Interlock Metal Roofing has served this region since 2001, bringing over two decades of local expertise to Harris and Chisago County. Your installer understands the specific demands of Minnesota winters—92 cm of annual snow, 83 freeze-thaw cycles, and wind gusts to 100 km/h—and knows how to secure Interlock panels to handle these conditions. They're familiar with ICC-ES ESR-1790 compliance and can assess whether your existing structure supports installation over your current roof, a major cost advantage. Local installation also means faster timeline, direct communication, and accountability. Rather than hiring a distant contractor unfamiliar with regional weather and building practices, you're working with someone who has built relationships with Harris homeowners and understands what long-term performance looks like in this climate.
