Review: August 20, 2024 Completion: August 13, 2024

From the start to finish, we loved their work and communication. There were no nails, metal bits, or excessive noise. They listened to all questions and addressed our concerns. They were careful to make no promise of a start date that they could not fulfill. The rain this year made it hard to predict! I would do a commercial for them free to endorse their work and product!

Hi Peter, we wanted to convey to you how much we love our new Interlock roof! Several of our neighbors and friends have said they do, too! We love the look of it, and are so impressed with how beautifully finished it is integrated into the flashing materials. The Interlock scheduling staff was great to work with, and we are so happy with Jessie and his Interlock installation team. They are true craftsmen, and part artists! We loved how they treated our home with respect, and were always willing to address any questions we had. We watched as they worked on items until they had them just right; when we asked about some areas of concern multiple members of the installation team converged on the item and came down to explain and even illustrate with photographs how it was addressed. Again, we couldn't be happier and are enjoying our Interlock roof!

To: Peter Brylinke My Interlock Shake style system was installed in June of 2019. We have now had it for an entire year and experienced the roof through all season, climate and weather conditions. Not only do we value the new look of our roof but the performance of the new roof has been exceptional. In the winter we have seen the snow pile up on it only to slide off as soon as the sun warms it enough. We have noticed a difference in the summers also with a cooler house. The roof has met all of our expectations and we are extremely happy with our decision to install this roof. Last summer when the workers were working on the roof, we were so pleased with the time and effort the workmen put into making sure all aspects of our roof were taken care of. They were courteous, hard working, respectful and considerate of our needs as homeowners. Carlos was instrumental in making sure that we were happy with every aspect of the work that was being done. In closing, we are very impressed with our roof and have recommended this same system to many people we know and many people who just " data-wpil-keyword-link="linked">walk by and ask about it. We feel that we have made a great decision in putting this system on our home. ">" alt="Minneapolis MN 55409 Interlock Roof" width="2560" height="1920" />

Dear Peter, Thank you for your help with the installation and warranty transfer of our interlock roof. We have since sold our house and had good feedback about our roof from potential buyers. Neighbors loved our new roof and we had people drive by and actually snap pictures of it! You were right that the new roof would help sell our home! Thanks for all your help!

Dear Peter, I had Interlock Roofing install my black slate roof in the fall one year ago, and I couldn’t be happier! My roof still looks like new, and really stands out in my neighborhood. My old asphalt shingle roof was leaking. I had to shovel it every time it snowed because of " title="ice dams" data-wpil-keyword-link="linked">ice dams in my older 1950’s house. I have had no issues at all with my new Interlock roof. It was so nice only to have to shovel my driveway this winter and not worry about snow on the roof. It all just slid off in only a few days after each snowfall. Also, the team that you had out to install my roof was exceptional. I was very impressed with the quality of the team that installed my roof. They were all very polite and worked well together as a team. They worked very hard, and got the job done, and completed in less than three days. I’ve never had to have anyone come back to fix or touch anything up. Thank you for the great job the Interlock team did to replace my roof. I would recommend Interlock to anyone needing a new roof without hesitation!

Dear Peter, We remain delighted with our new Interlock roof. It’s now been through 2 Minnesota winters, a hailstorm, and several rain deluges and is still the top-notch performer that you said it would be. Thank you for your and Interlock’s integrity throughout the sale, installation, and service of our roofing project. We remain convinced that Interlock is indeed “the Midwest’s Best Roof”.

Dear Peter, I Wanted to let you know how pleased I am with my new Interlock roof. It looks terrific, and I am anticipating that I will never have to roof rake my roof again now that your product has been installed. My house is small, a 3-bedroom rambler, but the visual impact the Interlock roof has added makes it look like a castle! All of the contact I have had with your personnel, from yourself to the lead foreman on the job and the men doing the install was pleasant and professional. The cleanup after the job was done was great and it only took 1-1/2 days for a complete tear-off to complete the installation. Please use this letter as a personal recommendation for your company and your product.

Dear Peter, Installing the Interlock roof on our home has completely transformed and improved our home’s appearance. The installation of the roof along with the greatly improved flashings have made a great difference. Because of that, our stucco was able to match our home so we look like new. An improvement I didn’t expect was the change in temperature of our second floor. Usually unbearable " data-wpil-keyword-link="linked">hot on a 90-degree day. It’s now 10-15 degree cooler and livable. We also received a sizeable discount on our homeowners’ insurance because of the roof’s resistance to fire. We’re sure that having to “Never roof again” will help us sell our house should that be necessary. Thank you from two satisfied customers.

Review: January 28, 2016 Completion: December 28, 2015

My Interlock ">Shake Style Roof in Aged Copper color was installed between December 21st and December 31st. Snow has covered most of the house and garage since it was installed, so I haven’t been able to enjoy the new look yet, but during the installation and before the snow it was obvious it I going to look great. I am glad I had them put Interlock ">Shakes on my 8ft x 16ft hip-roofed storage shed as well. There are a lot of huge oak trees close to my house and they had caused the heavy cedar hand-split shakes to deteriorate from moss growing on them. I knew I needed a roof that would not have this problem in the future. I am a retired mechanical engineer and had built the house and garage myself. I studied the specs on steel, stone coated steel and several aluminum style shakes, before finally settling on the Interlock product. I believe it will prove to be a good choice. I was very impressed with the quality and design of all the types of flashings, ridge vent, and fasteners that were expertly installed. I truly expect this roof to last and look great for generations. I was also very impressed with the crew who did the work under Juan and Carlos’ direction. They worked tirelessly in some difficult weather conditions and short daylight hours. A number of minor changes were made on the fly with gutters, snow guards and roof penetrations and they were all executed precisely. They were very careful in making sure the roofs were protected overnight, on weekends and during the Christmas holiday. They did a great job of cleaning up the difficult mess made removing the decayed shakes. I guess I won’t know for sure if there are any problems until we get some heavy rains in the spring and summer, but as of now, I would be happy to show the roof and talk to any prospective clients that are considering the Interlock product.

Review: May 21, 2012 Completion: June 30, 2007

Dear Interlock Roofing, We are writing to share with you our experience with you, your employees, and the new roof. We built a brand new home and moved in January 1997. Within a few years, we were experiencing shingles that were curling and being removed by the wind. By the summer of 2007, it was imperative that we re-roof our home. Fortunately, we saw an ad in the local paper for your product. Below are just a few of the benefits we appreciate with the aluminum interlocking roofing shingles: The service and attention to our roofing project by Scott Bohnen from signing the contract to follow-up after the installation. The fact that the workforce followed safety procedures by wearing safety gear (we have a steep roof). Daily attention to our project until it was completed, about one week in total. Aesthetically pleasing roof, with numerous comments by friends and neighbors and those just passing by. EXCELLENT CURB APPEAL! The roof is quieter during rain storms than with regular asphalt shingles. We often have to verify that it is raining by visually looking or going outside. The roof reflects light so that we have experienced reduced air conditioning costs in the summer. In the winter, the heating bill is reduced as well and that may be in part to the aluminum shingle along with the polypropylene lining between the old and new shingles. No matter the reason, our heating and cooling bills are reduced. The fact that the roof is aluminum and it can be recycled at the end of its life expectancy. The 50-year, one time transferable, warranty. We could go on and on but we are very pleased with our roof and thankful that we will never have to re-roof again. Thank you.

Metal Roofing FAQs for Homeowners in Sunrise Township

The following metal roofing FAQs are designed specifically for homeowners in Sunrise Township, Minnesota. Whether you are building a new home or replacing an existing roof, understanding how roofing materials perform in local weather conditions is essential. From wind and storm protection to fire resistance, hail impact, snow loads, and coastal moisture exposure, Interlock’s Lifetime Aluminum Roofing System is engineered to provide long-term durability, energy efficiency, and peace of mind in Sunrise Township.

How does a metal roof handle Minnesota's heavy snow and ice buildup in Sunrise Township?

Aluminum's smooth surface sheds snow and ice more effectively than asphalt shingles, reducing ice dam formation during Sunrise Township's typical 83 freeze-thaw cycles per year. The four-way interlocking panels shed precipitation quickly, and snow guards can be installed if you want retention for insulation or aesthetics. At about 120 cm of annual snowfall, this shedding capability protects your roof deck from prolonged moisture exposure, which is critical in a climate where thawing and refreezing stress asphalt shingles over time. Aluminum's self-healing oxide layer remains uncompromised by salt used on area roads.

Will freeze-thaw cycling damage an aluminum metal roof in this region?

No. Aluminum expands and contracts uniformly across thermal cycles—the material has no vulnerable stress points where water can infiltrate and freeze. With about 83 freeze-thaw days annually in Sunrise Township, asphalt shingles become brittle and crack as they expand and contract; aluminum panels bend and reset without degradation. The 3105-H24 and 3003-H24 aluminum alloys (ASTM B209) used in Interlock panels are engineered for precisely this type of cycling. Because the material contains no iron, it cannot rust even when micro-cracks in cheaper coatings expose bare metal to moisture—the oxide layer self-heals. That durability is backed by a lifetime limited, non-prorated warranty for the original owner.

Can an aluminum roof rust in Minnesota's salty winter environment?

Aluminum cannot rust because it contains no iron—the element that oxidizes into rust. Instead, aluminum develops a self-healing oxide layer that protects the metal beneath. In Sunrise Township's snowy environment where road salt drifts onto roofs, this distinction matters enormously. Steel roofing rusts in salty conditions; Interlock's roofing-grade aluminum resists corrosion even when exposed to salt air and freeze-thaw moisture. The Alunar 70% PVDF fluorocarbon finish adds a 30-year warranty against chalking and fading, giving you two layers of protection. Homes in coastal salt-air climates to Antarctica have relied on this design for over 25 years.

How strong is a metal roof in Sunrise Township's wind storms?

The four-way interlocking system resists wind speeds up to 120 mph (193 km/h) when installed to specification—well above the typical 18 km/h mean winds and gusts reaching about 100 km/h in Sunrise Township. The interlocking panels lock on all four sides, preventing edge lift and flutter during spring and fall storms. This engineering is tested and verified under ICC-ES ESR-1790 (reissued 2025, governing IBC/IRC compliance) and backed by warranty. Unlike asphalt shingles that lift and tear under sustained gusts, the aluminum panels move as one assembly with your roof structure, distributing wind forces broadly.

Do I need to reinforce my home's framing for a metal roof?

No structural reinforcement is needed. Interlock's Mediterranean Tile profile weighs about 0.59 lb/sq ft—roughly 96% lighter than concrete or clay tile—making it one of the lightest roofing systems available. The Slate profile installs at about 0.41 lb/sq ft. Most existing roof structures easily support these loads without modification, so the metal roof can install directly over your existing asphalt shingles if desired. This weight advantage saves time and money during installation and eliminates the hidden cost of reinforcing joists or trusses. The ICC-ES evaluation report ESR-1790 confirms installation over most existing roofs, making the retrofit faster and cleaner.

Will a metal roof help with insurance costs after hail damage?

Yes. Interlock panels carry a UL 2218 Class 4 impact rating—the highest available—and the warranty covers perforation from hailstones up to 1.5 inches. Many insurers recognize this resilience and offer premium discounts for non-combustible, impact-resistant roofing. You'll want to contact your agent with the UL 2218 Class 4 specification to explore your policy's options. Class A fire rating availability (non-combustible aluminum) may also qualify for additional discounts depending on your coverage. With about 78 cm of annual snow and freeze-thaw cycling in Sunrise Township, a hail-resistant roof protects your home from the combined weather stresses this region experiences.

Can an aluminum roof reduce my cooling costs?

Yes, if you choose an energy-efficient color. These colors reflect solar heat rather than absorbing it like dark asphalt, reducing cooling demand on sunny days. Interlock's energy-efficiency options have a thermal emissivity of 0.84 and initial solar reflectance up to 0.55, rated by the Cool Roof Rating Council. In Sunrise Township, with about 3,113 sunshine hours annually, reflective coatings make a measurable difference during spring, summer, and fall. This energy benefit compounds over a 40+ year lifespan. The reflective design also reduces thermal stress on the aluminum itself, supporting the coating's 30-year warranty against fading—meaning the reflectivity stays effective longer than on conventional roofing.

How much maintenance does a metal roof really need?

Minimal. Aluminum requires no sealing, recoating, or preventive maintenance—rinse with water if debris accumulates, and you're done. Asphalt shingles require periodic inspection and replacement of failed sealants; wood shakes split and rot; tile cracks. With 778 mm of annual rainfall in Sunrise Township, water naturally cleans aluminum's smooth surface. The Alunar 70% PVDF fluorocarbon finish resists chalking and fading for 30 years (ASTM D4214/D2244 measured), so the appearance remains consistent without refinishing. The lifetime limited warranty covers cracking, splitting, curling, and loss of impact resistance, eliminating surprise repair costs over decades.

Is an aluminum roof better for the environment than asphalt shingles?

Yes. Aluminum is about 95% recyclable at end-of-life, so your old roof becomes new products rather than landfill waste. Asphalt shingles, which dominate most Minnesota roofs, are difficult to recycle and end up in landfills after 15-25 years. Over a 40+ year lifespan, you'll never tear off and replace an Interlock roof, so you eliminate the environmental cost of disposal and the manufacturing emissions of multiple replacement cycles. The aluminum panels manufactured since 1998 in Delta, BC, and installed across climates from coastal salt air to Antarctica demonstrate durability that breaks the asphalt replacement cycle. Choosing a roof that lasts a lifetime is the most sustainable choice.

Is a metal roof worth the higher upfront cost in Minnesota?

Yes, when you calculate the total cost over the roof's life. Asphalt shingles cost less initially but require replacement every 15-25 years; over a 50-year period, you'll buy and install asphalt three times, plus remove and dispose of old shingles. Interlock's lifetime limited, non-prorated warranty for the original owner eliminates replacement costs entirely. With about 778 mm rain and 92 cm snow annually in Sunrise Township, asphalt deteriorates faster from moisture and freeze-thaw stress; aluminum resists both. Add the energy savings from energy-efficiency colors over decades, potential insurance discounts for Class 4 hail and Class A fire ratings, and maintenance costs (essentially zero for aluminum), and the metal roof becomes the lower lifetime cost. Plus, it transfers 50 years of coverage to the next owner, boosting home resale value.
