| Spec / Rating | Climate / Risk Factor + What It Solves |
|---|---|
| Wind resistance: 120+ mph (193+ kph) | Extreme wind, hurricanes, storm uplift: full interlocking attachment helps prevent blow-offs, edge lifting, and panel loss in high-gust events. |
| Fire rating: Class A (with proper assembly) | Wildfire, embers, radiant heat, chimney sparks: non-combustible roof assembly provides the highest residential fire protection rating. |
| Hail resistance: UL 2218 Class 4 | Hail and impact debris: highest impact classification; resists cracking, splitting, and surface loss common with asphalt under hail strikes. |
| Snow & ice performance: interlocking, shedding profile | Heavy snow, freeze-thaw, ice dams: smooth aluminum sheds snow efficiently and the interlocking design helps block water intrusion when melt-refreeze cycles occur. (Final snow-load capacity depends on roof structure and local code.) |

What our customers are saying:
From the start to finish, we loved their work and communication. There were no nails, metal bits, or excessive noise. They listened to all questions and addressed our concerns. They were careful to make no promise of a start date that they could not fulfill. The rain this year made it hard to predict! I would do a commercial for them free to endorse their work and product!
Hi Peter, we wanted to convey to you how much we love our new Interlock roof! Several of our neighbors and friends have said they do, too! We love the look of it, and are so impressed with how beautifully finished it is integrated into the flashing materials. The Interlock scheduling staff was great to work with, and we are so happy with Jessie and his Interlock installation team. They are true craftsmen, and part artists! We loved how they treated our home with respect, and were always willing to address any questions we had. We watched as they worked on items until they had them just right; when we asked about some areas of concern multiple members of the installation team converged on the item and came down to explain and even illustrate with photographs how it was addressed. Again, we couldn't be happier and are enjoying our Interlock roof!
To: Peter Brylinke My Interlock Shake style system was installed in June of 2019. We have now had it for an entire year and experienced the roof through all season, climate and weather conditions. Not only do we value the new look of our roof but the performance of the new roof has been exceptional. In the winter we have seen the snow pile up on it only to slide off as soon as the sun warms it enough. We have noticed a difference in the summers also with a cooler house. The roof has met all of our expectations and we are extremely happy with our decision to install this roof. Last summer when the workers were working on the roof, we were so pleased with the time and effort the workmen put into making sure all aspects of our roof were taken care of. They were courteous, hard working, respectful and considerate of our needs as homeowners. Carlos was instrumental in making sure that we were happy with every aspect of the work that was being done. In closing, we are very impressed with our roof and have recommended this same system to many people we know and many people who just " data-wpil-keyword-link="linked">walk by and ask about it. We feel that we have made a great decision in putting this system on our home. ">" alt="Minneapolis MN 55409 Interlock Roof" width="2560" height="1920" />
Dear Peter, Thank you for your help with the installation and warranty transfer of our interlock roof. We have since sold our house and had good feedback about our roof from potential buyers. Neighbors loved our new roof and we had people drive by and actually snap pictures of it! You were right that the new roof would help sell our home! Thanks for all your help!
Dear Peter, I had Interlock Roofing install my black slate roof in the fall one year ago, and I couldn’t be happier! My roof still looks like new, and really stands out in my neighborhood. My old asphalt shingle roof was leaking. I had to shovel it every time it snowed because of " title="ice dams" data-wpil-keyword-link="linked">ice dams in my older 1950’s house. I have had no issues at all with my new Interlock roof. It was so nice only to have to shovel my driveway this winter and not worry about snow on the roof. It all just slid off in only a few days after each snowfall. Also, the team that you had out to install my roof was exceptional. I was very impressed with the quality of the team that installed my roof. They were all very polite and worked well together as a team. They worked very hard, and got the job done, and completed in less than three days. I’ve never had to have anyone come back to fix or touch anything up. Thank you for the great job the Interlock team did to replace my roof. I would recommend Interlock to anyone needing a new roof without hesitation!
Dear Peter, We remain delighted with our new Interlock roof. It’s now been through 2 Minnesota winters, a hailstorm, and several rain deluges and is still the top-notch performer that you said it would be. Thank you for your and Interlock’s integrity throughout the sale, installation, and service of our roofing project. We remain convinced that Interlock is indeed “the Midwest’s Best Roof”.
Dear Peter, I Wanted to let you know how pleased I am with my new Interlock roof. It looks terrific, and I am anticipating that I will never have to roof rake my roof again now that your product has been installed. My house is small, a 3-bedroom rambler, but the visual impact the Interlock roof has added makes it look like a castle! All of the contact I have had with your personnel, from yourself to the lead foreman on the job and the men doing the install was pleasant and professional. The cleanup after the job was done was great and it only took 1-1/2 days for a complete tear-off to complete the installation. Please use this letter as a personal recommendation for your company and your product.
Dear Peter, Installing the Interlock roof on our home has completely transformed and improved our home’s appearance. The installation of the roof along with the greatly improved flashings have made a great difference. Because of that, our stucco was able to match our home so we look like new. An improvement I didn’t expect was the change in temperature of our second floor. Usually unbearable " data-wpil-keyword-link="linked">hot on a 90-degree day. It’s now 10-15 degree cooler and livable. We also received a sizeable discount on our homeowners’ insurance because of the roof’s resistance to fire. We’re sure that having to “Never roof again” will help us sell our house should that be necessary. Thank you from two satisfied customers.
My Interlock ">Shake Style Roof in Aged Copper color was installed between December 21st and December 31st. Snow has covered most of the house and garage since it was installed, so I haven’t been able to enjoy the new look yet, but during the installation and before the snow it was obvious it I going to look great. I am glad I had them put Interlock ">Shakes on my 8ft x 16ft hip-roofed storage shed as well. There are a lot of huge oak trees close to my house and they had caused the heavy cedar hand-split shakes to deteriorate from moss growing on them. I knew I needed a roof that would not have this problem in the future. I am a retired mechanical engineer and had built the house and garage myself. I studied the specs on steel, stone coated steel and several aluminum style shakes, before finally settling on the Interlock product. I believe it will prove to be a good choice. I was very impressed with the quality and design of all the types of flashings, ridge vent, and fasteners that were expertly installed. I truly expect this roof to last and look great for generations. I was also very impressed with the crew who did the work under Juan and Carlos’ direction. They worked tirelessly in some difficult weather conditions and short daylight hours. A number of minor changes were made on the fly with gutters, snow guards and roof penetrations and they were all executed precisely. They were very careful in making sure the roofs were protected overnight, on weekends and during the Christmas holiday. They did a great job of cleaning up the difficult mess made removing the decayed shakes. I guess I won’t know for sure if there are any problems until we get some heavy rains in the spring and summer, but as of now, I would be happy to show the roof and talk to any prospective clients that are considering the Interlock product.
I love my new roof. It looks great and I know the house is in better shape without the heavy deteriorating asphalt shingles. My house is the only one on the block with no snow on the roof, and I can't wait to hear it in the rain
We are delighted with the workmanship and quality of our new roof. It has exceeded our expectations, and we highly recommend an Interlock Roof to anyone looking to replace an old roof.
Dear Interlock Roofing, We are writing to share with you our experience with you, your employees, and the new roof. We built a brand new home and moved in January 1997. Within a few years, we were experiencing shingles that were curling and being removed by the wind. By the summer of 2007, it was imperative that we re-roof our home. Fortunately, we saw an ad in the local paper for your product. Below are just a few of the benefits we appreciate with the aluminum interlocking roofing shingles: The service and attention to our roofing project by Scott Bohnen from signing the contract to follow-up after the installation. The fact that the workforce followed safety procedures by wearing safety gear (we have a steep roof). Daily attention to our project until it was completed, about one week in total. Aesthetically pleasing roof, with numerous comments by friends and neighbors and those just passing by. EXCELLENT CURB APPEAL! The roof is quieter during rain storms than with regular asphalt shingles. We often have to verify that it is raining by visually looking or going outside. The roof reflects light so that we have experienced reduced air conditioning costs in the summer. In the winter, the heating bill is reduced as well and that may be in part to the aluminum shingle along with the polypropylene lining between the old and new shingles. No matter the reason, our heating and cooling bills are reduced. The fact that the roof is aluminum and it can be recycled at the end of its life expectancy. The 50-year, one time transferable, warranty. We could go on and on but we are very pleased with our roof and thankful that we will never have to re-roof again. Thank you.

Metal Roofing FAQs for Homeowners in Franconia Township
The following metal roofing FAQs are designed specifically for homeowners in Franconia Township, Minnesota. Whether you are building a new home or replacing an existing roof, understanding how roofing materials perform in local weather conditions is essential. From wind and storm protection to fire resistance, hail impact, snow loads, and coastal moisture exposure, Interlock’s Lifetime Aluminum Roofing System is engineered to provide long-term durability, energy efficiency, and peace of mind in Franconia Township.
How does Interlock metal roofing handle heavy snow loads in Minnesota winters?
Interlock's four-way interlocking aluminum panels are engineered to support significant snow accumulation without sagging or leaking. With Franconia Township averaging about 92 cm of snow annually and experiencing roughly 83 freeze-thaw cycles per year, a metal roof's smooth, hard surface naturally sheds snow and ice rather than trapping it like asphalt. The panels lock together so tightly that ice dams cannot form underneath. Snow guards are available if you want additional retention for aesthetic or safety reasons. Aluminum's non-corrosive properties mean freeze-thaw cycling—which degrades asphalt and wood—does not damage it.
Why does freeze-thaw cycling ruin asphalt but not Interlock metal roofing?
Asphalt absorbs water; when it freezes and thaws 83 times per year in Franconia Township, water expands inside the shingle, causing cracks and deterioration. Aluminum is non-porous and its oxide layer self-heals when scratched, so water cannot penetrate or damage it. The Alunar 70% PVDF fluorocarbon coating—warranted 30 years against chalking and fading—creates a protective shell on both sides of the panel. After 83 annual freeze-thaw cycles over decades, your metal roof looks unchanged while asphalt shingles are curling, splitting, and failing. This is why Interlock carries a lifetime limited warranty for the original owner.
Can Interlock metal roofing withstand Minnesota wind gusts?
Yes. Interlock's four-way interlocking panels are warranted to resist wind speeds up to 120 mph, which far exceeds the typical gusts of about 100 km/h (62 mph) common in Chisago County. The locking mechanism prevents panels from lifting, separating, or rattling during storms. Installed to specification over a solid deck, the system acts as one unit rather than thousands of independent shingles. This engineering is verified in ICC-ES evaluation report ESR-1790 and has been proven by installations spanning from coastal salt-air environments to extreme-weather research stations. Your insurance company may recognize this superior wind resistance.
Does aluminum roofing rust in Minnesota's wet climate?
Aluminum cannot rust because it contains no iron. When exposed to air, aluminum forms a thin oxide layer that actually protects the metal beneath; if scratched, this layer self-heals. The Alunar 70% PVDF fluorocarbon finish is applied to both sides of every Interlock panel—extra important in Minnesota's 778 mm annual rainfall and variable humidity. Steel roofing, by contrast, rusts from the inside out once the coating is breached, leading to staining, perforation, and structural failure. Interlock's material (3105-H24 and 3003-H24 roofing-grade aluminum per ASTM B209) plus its dual-sided coating means no rust-related repairs or replacement over the life of the roof.
Do I need to reinforce my house structure for a metal roof in Franconia Township?
No structural reinforcement is needed. Interlock's Slate profile installs at just 0.41 lb/sq ft, the Shake at 0.58 lb/sq ft, and the Mediterranean Tile at 0.59 lb/sq ft—about 96% lighter than actual clay or concrete tile. Most Minnesota homes are already overbuilt to handle snow loads of 92 cm annually, so a metal roof actually reduces the weight burden on your frame and foundation compared to traditional materials. You can install Interlock over most existing asphalt roofs without removing them, saving thousands in labor and landfill fees. Lightweight aluminum also means faster installation and less structural stress over the roof's 50+ year lifespan.
What happens if hail damages my metal roof?
Interlock metal roofing carries a UL 2218 Class 4 impact rating—the highest available—and the Guardian Warranty covers perforation from hailstones up to 1.5 inches. Class 4 is rare and signals exceptional durability. Many insurance companies offer discounts on metal roofs because their impact resistance reduces claim frequency. In Minnesota's thunderstorm seasons, this protection matters. If hail does occur, the non-combustible aluminum and its Alunar coating are unaffected by the impact itself; there is no rust or water intrusion from the dent. Your insurer may recognize the reduced risk profile and adjust your premium accordingly—a benefit not available with asphalt.
Is metal roofing worth the upfront cost compared to asphalt shingles?
Metal roofing costs more initially but is the last roof you will install. Asphalt shingles last 15–20 years in Minnesota's climate; you will replace them 2–3 times over 50+ years. Interlock's lifetime limited warranty for the original owner eliminates future replacement costs and labor. The Alunar coating is warranted 30 years against fading and chalking, meaning no repainting. Add in lower maintenance, no moss/algae treatment, and transferable 50-year coverage for the next owner (boosting resale value), and the total cost of ownership is lower than asphalt. Energy-efficient energy-efficient colors also reduce cooling costs in summer. Over a 50-year timeline, metal roofing saves money.
How much maintenance does a metal roof require in Minnesota?
Virtually none. Unlike asphalt, which requires moss and algae treatment, periodic re-sealing, and nail-popping repairs, Interlock aluminum is maintenance-free per CALGreen verification. Rain (about 778 mm per year) and snow naturally clean it. No coating touch-ups, no wood rot risk, no rust inspections. The only routine task is clearing debris from gutters and ensuring snow guards function if installed. Compare this to wood shakes, which need staining and splitting repair, or clay tiles, which crack and re-grout over time. The Alunar 70% PVDF finish resists Minnesota's 3113 annual sunshine hours and freeze-thaw cycling without degradation, so your roof performs year after year with zero intervention.
Can I get the look of slate, cedar shake, or tile with a metal roof?
Yes. Interlock offers five profiles: Slate, Cedar Shingle, Shake, Standing Seam, and Mediterranean Tile. Each replicates the authentic texture and shadow lines of high-end materials while delivering the durability of aluminum. The Slate profile matches the clean geometry of natural slate; the Cedar Shingle and Shake profiles feature weathered wood grain and random coursing; the Mediterranean Tile has barrel-tile curves and Spanish-roof character; Standing Seam is modern and streamlined. All are available in multiple colors to suit your home's architecture. You get the premium aesthetic without the fragility—slate shatters in freeze-thaw, shake splits and rots, tiles crack. Aluminum is indestructible and instantly transforms your home's curb appeal.
Is metal roofing better for the environment than asphalt?
Yes. Interlock aluminum is approximately 95% recyclable and breaks the asphalt tear-off cycle. When you replace an asphalt roof, the old shingles go to a landfill where they persist for decades. Metal roofing eliminates this waste stream entirely. At end of life (50+ years from now), your Interlock roof can be recycled into new aluminum products. The manufacturing process in Delta, BC is optimized for minimal waste. Additionally, energy-efficient Interlock colors reflect heat with initial solar reflectance up to 0.55 and thermal emissivity of 0.84, reducing cooling energy in summer and lowering carbon emissions. Over its lifetime, one metal roof prevents multiple asphalt roofs from entering landfills while reducing home energy consumption.
