What our customers are saying:
From the start to finish, we loved their work and communication. There were no nails, metal bits, or excessive noise. They listened to all questions and addressed our concerns. They were careful to make no promise of a start date that they could not fulfill. The rain this year made it hard to predict! I would do a commercial for them free to endorse their work and product!
Hi Peter, we wanted to convey to you how much we love our new Interlock roof! Several of our neighbors and friends have said they do, too! We love the look of it, and are so impressed with how beautifully finished it is integrated into the flashing materials. The Interlock scheduling staff was great to work with, and we are so happy with Jessie and his Interlock installation team. They are true craftsmen, and part artists! We loved how they treated our home with respect, and were always willing to address any questions we had. We watched as they worked on items until they had them just right; when we asked about some areas of concern multiple members of the installation team converged on the item and came down to explain and even illustrate with photographs how it was addressed. Again, we couldn't be happier and are enjoying our Interlock roof!
To: Peter Brylinke My Interlock Shake style system was installed in June of 2019. We have now had it for an entire year and experienced the roof through all season, climate and weather conditions. Not only do we value the new look of our roof but the performance of the new roof has been exceptional. In the winter we have seen the snow pile up on it only to slide off as soon as the sun warms it enough. We have noticed a difference in the summers also with a cooler house. The roof has met all of our expectations and we are extremely happy with our decision to install this roof. Last summer when the workers were working on the roof, we were so pleased with the time and effort the workmen put into making sure all aspects of our roof were taken care of. They were courteous, hard working, respectful and considerate of our needs as homeowners. Carlos was instrumental in making sure that we were happy with every aspect of the work that was being done. In closing, we are very impressed with our roof and have recommended this same system to many people we know and many people who just " data-wpil-keyword-link="linked">walk by and ask about it. We feel that we have made a great decision in putting this system on our home. ">" alt="Minneapolis MN 55409 Interlock Roof" width="2560" height="1920" />
Dear Peter, Thank you for your help with the installation and warranty transfer of our interlock roof. We have since sold our house and had good feedback about our roof from potential buyers. Neighbors loved our new roof and we had people drive by and actually snap pictures of it! You were right that the new roof would help sell our home! Thanks for all your help!
Dear Peter, I had Interlock Roofing install my black slate roof in the fall one year ago, and I couldn’t be happier! My roof still looks like new, and really stands out in my neighborhood. My old asphalt shingle roof was leaking. I had to shovel it every time it snowed because of " title="ice dams" data-wpil-keyword-link="linked">ice dams in my older 1950’s house. I have had no issues at all with my new Interlock roof. It was so nice only to have to shovel my driveway this winter and not worry about snow on the roof. It all just slid off in only a few days after each snowfall. Also, the team that you had out to install my roof was exceptional. I was very impressed with the quality of the team that installed my roof. They were all very polite and worked well together as a team. They worked very hard, and got the job done, and completed in less than three days. I’ve never had to have anyone come back to fix or touch anything up. Thank you for the great job the Interlock team did to replace my roof. I would recommend Interlock to anyone needing a new roof without hesitation!
Dear Peter, We remain delighted with our new Interlock roof. It’s now been through 2 Minnesota winters, a hailstorm, and several rain deluges and is still the top-notch performer that you said it would be. Thank you for your and Interlock’s integrity throughout the sale, installation, and service of our roofing project. We remain convinced that Interlock is indeed “the Midwest’s Best Roof”.
Dear Peter, I Wanted to let you know how pleased I am with my new Interlock roof. It looks terrific, and I am anticipating that I will never have to roof rake my roof again now that your product has been installed. My house is small, a 3-bedroom rambler, but the visual impact the Interlock roof has added makes it look like a castle! All of the contact I have had with your personnel, from yourself to the lead foreman on the job and the men doing the install was pleasant and professional. The cleanup after the job was done was great and it only took 1-1/2 days for a complete tear-off to complete the installation. Please use this letter as a personal recommendation for your company and your product.
Dear Peter, Installing the Interlock roof on our home has completely transformed and improved our home’s appearance. The installation of the roof along with the greatly improved flashings have made a great difference. Because of that, our stucco was able to match our home so we look like new. An improvement I didn’t expect was the change in temperature of our second floor. Usually unbearable " data-wpil-keyword-link="linked">hot on a 90-degree day. It’s now 10-15 degree cooler and livable. We also received a sizeable discount on our homeowners’ insurance because of the roof’s resistance to fire. We’re sure that having to “Never roof again” will help us sell our house should that be necessary. Thank you from two satisfied customers.
My Interlock ">Shake Style Roof in Aged Copper color was installed between December 21st and December 31st. Snow has covered most of the house and garage since it was installed, so I haven’t been able to enjoy the new look yet, but during the installation and before the snow it was obvious it I going to look great. I am glad I had them put Interlock ">Shakes on my 8ft x 16ft hip-roofed storage shed as well. There are a lot of huge oak trees close to my house and they had caused the heavy cedar hand-split shakes to deteriorate from moss growing on them. I knew I needed a roof that would not have this problem in the future. I am a retired mechanical engineer and had built the house and garage myself. I studied the specs on steel, stone coated steel and several aluminum style shakes, before finally settling on the Interlock product. I believe it will prove to be a good choice. I was very impressed with the quality and design of all the types of flashings, ridge vent, and fasteners that were expertly installed. I truly expect this roof to last and look great for generations. I was also very impressed with the crew who did the work under Juan and Carlos’ direction. They worked tirelessly in some difficult weather conditions and short daylight hours. A number of minor changes were made on the fly with gutters, snow guards and roof penetrations and they were all executed precisely. They were very careful in making sure the roofs were protected overnight, on weekends and during the Christmas holiday. They did a great job of cleaning up the difficult mess made removing the decayed shakes. I guess I won’t know for sure if there are any problems until we get some heavy rains in the spring and summer, but as of now, I would be happy to show the roof and talk to any prospective clients that are considering the Interlock product.
I love my new roof. It looks great and I know the house is in better shape without the heavy deteriorating asphalt shingles. My house is the only one on the block with no snow on the roof, and I can't wait to hear it in the rain
We are delighted with the workmanship and quality of our new roof. It has exceeded our expectations, and we highly recommend an Interlock Roof to anyone looking to replace an old roof.
Dear Interlock Roofing, We are writing to share with you our experience with you, your employees, and the new roof. We built a brand new home and moved in January 1997. Within a few years, we were experiencing shingles that were curling and being removed by the wind. By the summer of 2007, it was imperative that we re-roof our home. Fortunately, we saw an ad in the local paper for your product. Below are just a few of the benefits we appreciate with the aluminum interlocking roofing shingles: The service and attention to our roofing project by Scott Bohnen from signing the contract to follow-up after the installation. The fact that the workforce followed safety procedures by wearing safety gear (we have a steep roof). Daily attention to our project until it was completed, about one week in total. Aesthetically pleasing roof, with numerous comments by friends and neighbors and those just passing by. EXCELLENT CURB APPEAL! The roof is quieter during rain storms than with regular asphalt shingles. We often have to verify that it is raining by visually looking or going outside. The roof reflects light so that we have experienced reduced air conditioning costs in the summer. In the winter, the heating bill is reduced as well and that may be in part to the aluminum shingle along with the polypropylene lining between the old and new shingles. No matter the reason, our heating and cooling bills are reduced. The fact that the roof is aluminum and it can be recycled at the end of its life expectancy. The 50-year, one time transferable, warranty. We could go on and on but we are very pleased with our roof and thankful that we will never have to re-roof again. Thank you.

Metal Roofing FAQs for Homeowners in Shafer
The following metal roofing FAQs are designed specifically for homeowners in Shafer, Minnesota. Whether you are building a new home or replacing an existing roof, understanding how roofing materials perform in local weather conditions is essential. From wind and storm protection to fire resistance, hail impact, snow loads, and coastal moisture exposure, Interlock’s Lifetime Aluminum Roofing System is engineered to provide long-term durability, energy efficiency, and peace of mind in Shafer.
Does metal roofing handle Minnesota snow and ice buildup?
Yes. Interlock's four-way interlocking aluminum panels shed snow and ice effectively because the smooth, hard surface resists adhesion. Shafer receives about 97 cm of snow annually across roughly 80 freeze-thaw cycles per year—conditions that crack and curl asphalt shingles and wood shake. Aluminum's oxide layer self-heals when scratched by ice movement, so it won't weaken from repeated expansion and contraction. The lightweight construction (Shake profile at 0.58 lb/sq ft) also means no structural stress from accumulated snow load, and the panel seams are engineered to drain meltwater safely away from your home.
Will freeze-thaw cycling damage an aluminum metal roof?
No—aluminum actually thrives in freeze-thaw climates. The material is non-porous; water cannot penetrate or freeze inside it, which is what causes cracking and rot in asphalt and wood products. Shafer's ~80 annual freeze-thaw days and 97 cm of snow create exactly the conditions that degrade traditional roofing, but roofing-grade 3105-H24 aluminum alloy (ASTM B209) expands and contracts uniformly without fatigue. The Alunar 70% PVDF fluorocarbon coating, warranted 30 years against chalking, further shields the metal from UV and moisture stress during winter-to-spring cycling.
Can an aluminum roof rust in Minnesota?
No. Aluminum contains no iron, so it cannot rust—only asphalt and steel roofs corrode. What forms instead is a microscopically thin, self-healing aluminum oxide layer. Even if a hailstone or branch scratches the surface, this oxide reforms automatically. This chemistry is why Interlock panels have been installed since 1998 from coastal salt-air homes to Antarctica. In Shafer's 797 mm annual rainfall and seasonal freeze-thaw environment, an aluminum roof will never develop the rust stains, structural rot, or corrosion problems that plague steel roofs or the granule-loss decay that asphalt shingles experience after 15–20 years.
Are metal roofs safe in Minnesota wind and gusts?
Yes. Interlock's four-way interlocking panel design is warranted to resist wind speeds up to 120 mph when installed to specification. Shafer's typical daily-max winds average 19 km/h, with gusts reaching about 103 km/h—well within the roof's safe envelope. The interlocking seams lock each panel to its neighbors, distributing wind load across the entire assembly rather than stressing individual fasteners. This design, proven across thousands of installations since 2001 in the region, also means no wind-driven uplift or panel flutter during storms.
Will hail damage a metal roof, and can I get an insurance discount?
Interlock panels carry a UL 2218 Class 4 impact rating—the highest available—and the Guardian Warranty explicitly covers perforation from hailstones up to 1.5 inches. This durability may qualify you for homeowner insurance discounts in Shafer; contact your agent with the UL 2218 rating and ICC-ES ESR-1790 evaluation report (reissued 2025). Unlike asphalt shingles, which dent and lose granules in hail, aluminum's hardness and non-combustible aluminum composition mean repairs are rare and your roof's structural integrity stays intact.
Is a metal roof too heavy for my home's frame?
No—the opposite is true. Interlock's Slate profile installs at just 0.41 lb/sq ft, and the Mediterranean Tile (which replicates the look of concrete or clay tile) at 0.59 lb/sq ft is about 96% lighter than real tile. This extraordinarily light weight means most homes in Shafer require no structural reinforcement, and the roof can install directly over an existing asphalt roof, saving tear-off costs and landfill disposal. Even with 97 cm of annual snow loading and 80 freeze-thaw cycles, your home's existing framing bears far less stress than a traditional tile or slate installation would impose.
What warranty does an Interlock metal roof come with?
The Guardian Warranty is lifetime limited and non-prorated for the original owner—covering rusting, rotting, splitting, cracking, curling, and loss of impact resistance for as long as you own the home. The Alunar coating itself carries a 30-year warranty against chalking and fading (ASTM D4214 / D2244 measured). If you sell, the warranty transfers once to the next owner for 50 years from completion. This combination makes Interlock the only roof you'll likely install; other materials require replacement every 15–25 years, costing far more over your home's lifespan.
How long does installation take, and can you install over my old roof?
Installation timeline depends on roof size and weather, but most Shafer homes are completed in 1–3 days by our local crew. Yes, Interlock installs directly over an existing asphalt roof in most cases—no tear-off required. The lightweight panels (0.41–0.59 lb/sq ft) don't overload the structure, and the solid deck beneath your new roof plus synthetic underlayment keep the roof as quiet as asphalt during rain. Our local installer, Interlock Metal Roofing, has served the region since 2001 and coordinates scheduling to work around weather and your schedule.
Will a metal roof help lower cooling costs in summer?
Yes. energy-efficient Interlock colors reflect heat that asphalt absorbs, reducing cooling load on your home. Aged Copper Penny achieves initial solar reflectance up to 0.55 and thermal emissivity of 0.84, meaning the surface stays cooler and re-radiates absorbed heat away. Shafer averages about 3073 sunshine hours per year, so summer cooling benefits are real. This reflectivity is why Interlock earned Cool Roof Rating Council certification—the same principle that keeps asphalt shingles heating your attic instead. Over a 25-year roof life, the energy savings and reduced HVAC strain add meaningful value in Minnesota's variable climate.
How much maintenance does a metal roof need compared to asphalt or wood?
Interlock requires virtually no maintenance. Asphalt shingles lose granules, curl, and fail after 15–20 years in Shafer's 80 annual freeze-thaw cycles. Wood shake splits, rots, and requires frequent treatment. Concrete or clay tile cracks and demands constant repairs. Aluminum, being non-porous and non-combustible, doesn't absorb water, doesn't rot, and won't split or curl. Rain (797 mm annually) rinses the surface clean; the Alunar coating doesn't degrade like asphalt oxidation or wood weathering. You'll never seal, re-nail, or replace individual shingles—just occasional gutter cleaning and that's it.
