Review: August 20, 2024 Completion: August 13, 2024

From the start to finish, we loved their work and communication. There were no nails, metal bits, or excessive noise. They listened to all questions and addressed our concerns. They were careful to make no promise of a start date that they could not fulfill. The rain this year made it hard to predict! I would do a commercial for them free to endorse their work and product!

Hi Peter, we wanted to convey to you how much we love our new Interlock roof! Several of our neighbors and friends have said they do, too! We love the look of it, and are so impressed with how beautifully finished it is integrated into the flashing materials. The Interlock scheduling staff was great to work with, and we are so happy with Jessie and his Interlock installation team. They are true craftsmen, and part artists! We loved how they treated our home with respect, and were always willing to address any questions we had. We watched as they worked on items until they had them just right; when we asked about some areas of concern multiple members of the installation team converged on the item and came down to explain and even illustrate with photographs how it was addressed. Again, we couldn't be happier and are enjoying our Interlock roof!

To: Peter Brylinke My Interlock Shake style system was installed in June of 2019. We have now had it for an entire year and experienced the roof through all season, climate and weather conditions. Not only do we value the new look of our roof but the performance of the new roof has been exceptional. In the winter we have seen the snow pile up on it only to slide off as soon as the sun warms it enough. We have noticed a difference in the summers also with a cooler house. The roof has met all of our expectations and we are extremely happy with our decision to install this roof. Last summer when the workers were working on the roof, we were so pleased with the time and effort the workmen put into making sure all aspects of our roof were taken care of. They were courteous, hard working, respectful and considerate of our needs as homeowners. Carlos was instrumental in making sure that we were happy with every aspect of the work that was being done. In closing, we are very impressed with our roof and have recommended this same system to many people we know and many people who just " data-wpil-keyword-link="linked">walk by and ask about it. We feel that we have made a great decision in putting this system on our home. ">" alt="Minneapolis MN 55409 Interlock Roof" width="2560" height="1920" />

Dear Peter, Thank you for your help with the installation and warranty transfer of our interlock roof. We have since sold our house and had good feedback about our roof from potential buyers. Neighbors loved our new roof and we had people drive by and actually snap pictures of it! You were right that the new roof would help sell our home! Thanks for all your help!

Dear Peter, I had Interlock Roofing install my black slate roof in the fall one year ago, and I couldn’t be happier! My roof still looks like new, and really stands out in my neighborhood. My old asphalt shingle roof was leaking. I had to shovel it every time it snowed because of " title="ice dams" data-wpil-keyword-link="linked">ice dams in my older 1950’s house. I have had no issues at all with my new Interlock roof. It was so nice only to have to shovel my driveway this winter and not worry about snow on the roof. It all just slid off in only a few days after each snowfall. Also, the team that you had out to install my roof was exceptional. I was very impressed with the quality of the team that installed my roof. They were all very polite and worked well together as a team. They worked very hard, and got the job done, and completed in less than three days. I’ve never had to have anyone come back to fix or touch anything up. Thank you for the great job the Interlock team did to replace my roof. I would recommend Interlock to anyone needing a new roof without hesitation!

Dear Peter, We remain delighted with our new Interlock roof. It’s now been through 2 Minnesota winters, a hailstorm, and several rain deluges and is still the top-notch performer that you said it would be. Thank you for your and Interlock’s integrity throughout the sale, installation, and service of our roofing project. We remain convinced that Interlock is indeed “the Midwest’s Best Roof”.

Dear Peter, I Wanted to let you know how pleased I am with my new Interlock roof. It looks terrific, and I am anticipating that I will never have to roof rake my roof again now that your product has been installed. My house is small, a 3-bedroom rambler, but the visual impact the Interlock roof has added makes it look like a castle! All of the contact I have had with your personnel, from yourself to the lead foreman on the job and the men doing the install was pleasant and professional. The cleanup after the job was done was great and it only took 1-1/2 days for a complete tear-off to complete the installation. Please use this letter as a personal recommendation for your company and your product.

Dear Peter, Installing the Interlock roof on our home has completely transformed and improved our home’s appearance. The installation of the roof along with the greatly improved flashings have made a great difference. Because of that, our stucco was able to match our home so we look like new. An improvement I didn’t expect was the change in temperature of our second floor. Usually unbearable " data-wpil-keyword-link="linked">hot on a 90-degree day. It’s now 10-15 degree cooler and livable. We also received a sizeable discount on our homeowners’ insurance because of the roof’s resistance to fire. We’re sure that having to “Never roof again” will help us sell our house should that be necessary. Thank you from two satisfied customers.

Review: January 28, 2016 Completion: December 28, 2015

My Interlock ">Shake Style Roof in Aged Copper color was installed between December 21st and December 31st. Snow has covered most of the house and garage since it was installed, so I haven’t been able to enjoy the new look yet, but during the installation and before the snow it was obvious it I going to look great. I am glad I had them put Interlock ">Shakes on my 8ft x 16ft hip-roofed storage shed as well. There are a lot of huge oak trees close to my house and they had caused the heavy cedar hand-split shakes to deteriorate from moss growing on them. I knew I needed a roof that would not have this problem in the future. I am a retired mechanical engineer and had built the house and garage myself. I studied the specs on steel, stone coated steel and several aluminum style shakes, before finally settling on the Interlock product. I believe it will prove to be a good choice. I was very impressed with the quality and design of all the types of flashings, ridge vent, and fasteners that were expertly installed. I truly expect this roof to last and look great for generations. I was also very impressed with the crew who did the work under Juan and Carlos’ direction. They worked tirelessly in some difficult weather conditions and short daylight hours. A number of minor changes were made on the fly with gutters, snow guards and roof penetrations and they were all executed precisely. They were very careful in making sure the roofs were protected overnight, on weekends and during the Christmas holiday. They did a great job of cleaning up the difficult mess made removing the decayed shakes. I guess I won’t know for sure if there are any problems until we get some heavy rains in the spring and summer, but as of now, I would be happy to show the roof and talk to any prospective clients that are considering the Interlock product.

Review: May 21, 2012 Completion: June 30, 2007

Dear Interlock Roofing, We are writing to share with you our experience with you, your employees, and the new roof. We built a brand new home and moved in January 1997. Within a few years, we were experiencing shingles that were curling and being removed by the wind. By the summer of 2007, it was imperative that we re-roof our home. Fortunately, we saw an ad in the local paper for your product. Below are just a few of the benefits we appreciate with the aluminum interlocking roofing shingles: The service and attention to our roofing project by Scott Bohnen from signing the contract to follow-up after the installation. The fact that the workforce followed safety procedures by wearing safety gear (we have a steep roof). Daily attention to our project until it was completed, about one week in total. Aesthetically pleasing roof, with numerous comments by friends and neighbors and those just passing by. EXCELLENT CURB APPEAL! The roof is quieter during rain storms than with regular asphalt shingles. We often have to verify that it is raining by visually looking or going outside. The roof reflects light so that we have experienced reduced air conditioning costs in the summer. In the winter, the heating bill is reduced as well and that may be in part to the aluminum shingle along with the polypropylene lining between the old and new shingles. No matter the reason, our heating and cooling bills are reduced. The fact that the roof is aluminum and it can be recycled at the end of its life expectancy. The 50-year, one time transferable, warranty. We could go on and on but we are very pleased with our roof and thankful that we will never have to re-roof again. Thank you.

Metal Roofing FAQs for Homeowners in Kelso

The following metal roofing FAQs are designed specifically for homeowners in Kelso, Minnesota. Whether you are building a new home or replacing an existing roof, understanding how roofing materials perform in local weather conditions is essential. From wind and storm protection to fire resistance, hail impact, snow loads, and coastal moisture exposure, Interlock’s Lifetime Aluminum Roofing System is engineered to provide long-term durability, energy efficiency, and peace of mind in Kelso.

How does a metal roof handle the snow load we get in Kelso, Minnesota?

Interlock's four-way interlocking aluminum panels shed snow effectively because the smooth surface and panel geometry encourage sliding, reducing dangerous accumulation. Kelso receives about 92 cm of snow annually with roughly 78 freeze-thaw cycles per year—conditions that cause asphalt to crack and curl. Aluminum's lightweight design (the Shingle profile installs at 0.41 lb/sq ft) means your home's structure bears far less weight than slate or clay tile roofs, yet the interlocking system prevents wind-lifted snow from entering seams. Snow guards can be added if you want to control snow shedding onto walkways below.

Will repeated freezing and thawing damage an aluminum metal roof?

No—aluminum's crystalline structure actually improves with temperature cycling, unlike asphalt shingles that become brittle or wood that rots. Kelso's 78 annual freeze-thaw days place your home in a climate where traditional roofing materials fail fastest; the Alunar 70% PVDF coating on both sides of every Interlock panel is engineered to remain flexible through these swings. The roofing-grade 3105-H24 and 3003-H24 aluminum alloy (ASTM B209) has been installed from coastal zones to Antarctica—environments far harsher than Minnesota's seasonal extremes. This material's durability in freeze-thaw zones is why the Guardian Warranty includes no exclusions for temperature cycling.

Can an aluminum roof rust or corrode like steel roofing?

Aluminum cannot rust because it contains no iron—rust requires iron oxide to form. When aluminum's surface is scratched, it naturally forms a new oxide layer that heals itself, a process called passivation that happens automatically in air. Steel roofing, by contrast, rusts from the inside out once its coating is breached, which matters in Kelso's 773 mm of annual rainfall and wind gusts reaching 103 km/h that can damage panels. Interlock panels use roofing-grade aluminum with a 30-year Alunar fluorocarbon finish on both sides—extra corrosion insurance in any climate. The material has been proven in salt-air environments for over 25 years; Minnesota's freeze-thaw cycles and rain are far less corrosive than coastal salt spray.

Will my metal roof blow off in a Kelso windstorm?

The four-way interlocking system locks each panel to its neighbors—creating a unified structure that resists uplift. Interlock panels are warranted to withstand winds up to 120 mph (193 km/h) when installed to specification, far exceeding Kelso's typical gust speeds of 103 km/h. The interlocking geometry means wind cannot find a gap to peel under a panel; instead, forces are distributed across the entire roof assembly. UL 2218 Class 4 impact testing (the highest available) proves the system's mechanical strength. Local installers use stainless steel fasteners and follow ICC-ES ESR-1790 installation guidelines to ensure your roof meets or exceeds IBC/IRC wind codes for Minnesota.

Does metal roofing stand up to hail, and can it lower my insurance premium?

Interlock metal roofing carries a UL 2218 Class 4 impact rating—the highest classification available—and is even warranted against perforation from hailstones up to 1.5 inches. This superior performance often qualifies homeowners for insurance discounts because aluminum panels resist damage that would dent, crack, or penetrate asphalt or wood shingles. Some insurers recognize the non-combustible, impact-resistant design and offer reduced premiums. Request an ICC-ES ESR-1790 evaluation report from your installer to provide your insurance agent; it documents the roof's code compliance and durability. In Kelso's climate of frequent wind gusts and seasonal storms, this impact rating provides protection and potential savings that asphalt cannot match.

Will a metal roof keep my house cooler and reduce air-conditioning costs?

energy-efficient Interlock colors reflect rather than absorb solar heat, with initial solar reflectance up to 0.55 and thermal emissivity of 0.84—measurable values verified by the Cool Roof Rating Council. In Kelso, where you get about 3,209 annual sunshine hours, this reflectivity reduces cooling demand in summer months and lowers peak loads on your HVAC system. Asphalt shingles absorb heat and release it into your attic; aluminum reflects it away before it enters your home. The benefit compounds on hot days—metal roofs stay cooler than traditional materials, which translates to lower energy bills. Lighter-colored profiles like Aged Copper Penny outperform dark asphalt significantly in this regard.

How long does an Interlock metal roof last, and what does the warranty cover?

The Guardian Warranty is a lifetime limited, non-prorated material warranty for the original owner—covering rusting, rotting, splitting, cracking, curling, and loss of impact resistance with no time limits. The Alunar coating alone carries a separate 30-year warranty against chalking and fading (ASTM D4214/D2244 measured). When you sell your home, the warranty transfers to the next owner for 50 years from completion—adding resale appeal. Asphalt shingles typically need replacement every 15–25 years; Interlock's aluminum is designed for 50+ years of service. For a Kelso homeowner facing 78 annual freeze-thaw cycles and 92 cm of snow, this durability means you're buying your last roof, not a temporary repair.

Is a metal roof more expensive than asphalt, and is it worth it over time?

Metal roofing costs more upfront than asphalt shingles but becomes the better value when you factor in lifespan, maintenance, and replacement cycles. Asphalt roofs need replacement every 15–25 years in climates like Kelso with 78 freeze-thaw days annually and 92 cm of snow—meaning two or three tear-offs and landfill disposal over 50 years. Interlock's aluminum roof lasts 50+ years without replacement, with no maintenance costs. The Guardian Warranty covers material defects for life, eliminating surprise repair bills. When you account for 2–3 asphalt replacements at $8,000–15,000 each versus one installed metal roof, the total cost of ownership tips decisively toward aluminum. Plus, the transferable 50-year warranty adds resale value that asphalt does not.

How long does installation take, and can you install over my existing roof?

Most Interlock installations complete in 3–7 days depending on roof size and complexity; the process is faster than asphalt tear-off because you avoid debris removal. The Slate, Cedar Shingle, and Shake profiles typically install directly over your existing asphalt roof without structural reinforcement—a major advantage because the aluminum panels are extraordinarily light (Shingle at 0.41 lb/sq ft, about 96% lighter than concrete or clay tile). Your installer will inspect the existing deck for stability, add underlayment and fasteners per ICC-ES ESR-1790 guidelines, then interlock the panels. In Kelso's climate of frequent 103 km/h gusts and 773 mm annual rainfall, proper installation by a local, experienced contractor is critical—your installer since 2001 knows Minnesota's wind and snow codes.

Is aluminum roofing better for the environment than asphalt shingles?

Aluminum is approximately 95% recyclable at end-of-life, whereas asphalt shingles end up in landfills by the million tons annually—a cycle that repeats every 15–25 years in Kelso's freeze-thaw climate. Interlock's roofing-grade 3105-H24 and 3003-H24 aluminum alloy (ASTM B209) comes from recycled sources and can be reclaimed and reused indefinitely without degradation. The lighter weight also reduces transportation emissions compared to slate, tile, or steel roofing. CALGreen-verified for reduced maintenance, the panels require no chemical treatments, coatings, or replacements over 50 years—eliminating the environmental cost of repeated roof removal. By choosing a single, durable aluminum roof instead of multiple asphalt replacements, you reduce landfill waste and your home's overall environmental footprint.
