From the start to finish, we loved their work and communication. There were no nails, metal bits, or excessive noise. They listened to all questions and addressed our concerns. They were careful to make no promise of a start date that they could not fulfill. The rain this year made it hard to predict! I would do a commercial for them free to endorse their work and product!

Hi Peter, we wanted to convey to you how much we love our new Interlock roof! Several of our neighbors and friends have said they do, too! We love the look of it, and are so impressed with how beautifully finished it is integrated into the flashing materials. The Interlock scheduling staff was great to work with, and we are so happy with Jessie and his Interlock installation team. They are true craftsmen, and part artists! We loved how they treated our home with respect, and were always willing to address any questions we had. We watched as they worked on items until they had them just right; when we asked about some areas of concern multiple members of the installation team converged on the item and came down to explain and even illustrate with photographs how it was addressed. Again, we couldn't be happier and are enjoying our Interlock roof!

To: Peter Brylinke My Interlock Shake style system was installed in June of 2019. We have now had it for an entire year and experienced the roof through all season, climate and weather conditions. Not only do we value the new look of our roof but the performance of the new roof has been exceptional. In the winter we have seen the snow pile up on it only to slide off as soon as the sun warms it enough. We have noticed a difference in the summers also with a cooler house. The roof has met all of our expectations and we are extremely happy with our decision to install this roof. Last summer when the workers were working on the roof, we were so pleased with the time and effort the workmen put into making sure all aspects of our roof were taken care of. They were courteous, hard working, respectful and considerate of our needs as homeowners. Carlos was instrumental in making sure that we were happy with every aspect of the work that was being done. In closing, we are very impressed with our roof and have recommended this same system to many people we know and many people who just " data-wpil-keyword-link="linked">walk by and ask about it. We feel that we have made a great decision in putting this system on our home. ">" alt="Minneapolis MN 55409 Interlock Roof" width="2560" height="1920" />

Dear Peter, Thank you for your help with the installation and warranty transfer of our interlock roof. We have since sold our house and had good feedback about our roof from potential buyers. Neighbors loved our new roof and we had people drive by and actually snap pictures of it! You were right that the new roof would help sell our home! Thanks for all your help!

Dear Peter, I had Interlock Roofing install my black slate roof in the fall one year ago, and I couldn’t be happier! My roof still looks like new, and really stands out in my neighborhood. My old asphalt shingle roof was leaking. I had to shovel it every time it snowed because of " title="ice dams" data-wpil-keyword-link="linked">ice dams in my older 1950’s house. I have had no issues at all with my new Interlock roof. It was so nice only to have to shovel my driveway this winter and not worry about snow on the roof. It all just slid off in only a few days after each snowfall. Also, the team that you had out to install my roof was exceptional. I was very impressed with the quality of the team that installed my roof. They were all very polite and worked well together as a team. They worked very hard, and got the job done, and completed in less than three days. I’ve never had to have anyone come back to fix or touch anything up. Thank you for the great job the Interlock team did to replace my roof. I would recommend Interlock to anyone needing a new roof without hesitation!

Dear Peter, We remain delighted with our new Interlock roof. It’s now been through 2 Minnesota winters, a hailstorm, and several rain deluges and is still the top-notch performer that you said it would be. Thank you for your and Interlock’s integrity throughout the sale, installation, and service of our roofing project. We remain convinced that Interlock is indeed “the Midwest’s Best Roof”.

Dear Peter, I Wanted to let you know how pleased I am with my new Interlock roof. It looks terrific, and I am anticipating that I will never have to roof rake my roof again now that your product has been installed. My house is small, a 3-bedroom rambler, but the visual impact the Interlock roof has added makes it look like a castle! All of the contact I have had with your personnel, from yourself to the lead foreman on the job and the men doing the install was pleasant and professional. The cleanup after the job was done was great and it only took 1-1/2 days for a complete tear-off to complete the installation. Please use this letter as a personal recommendation for your company and your product.

Dear Peter, Installing the Interlock roof on our home has completely transformed and improved our home’s appearance. The installation of the roof along with the greatly improved flashings have made a great difference. Because of that, our stucco was able to match our home so we look like new. An improvement I didn’t expect was the change in temperature of our second floor. Usually unbearable " data-wpil-keyword-link="linked">hot on a 90-degree day. It’s now 10-15 degree cooler and livable. We also received a sizeable discount on our homeowners’ insurance because of the roof’s resistance to fire. We’re sure that having to “Never roof again” will help us sell our house should that be necessary. Thank you from two satisfied customers.

Review: January 28, 2016 Completion: December 28, 2015

My Interlock ">Shake Style Roof in Aged Copper color was installed between December 21st and December 31st. Snow has covered most of the house and garage since it was installed, so I haven’t been able to enjoy the new look yet, but during the installation and before the snow it was obvious it I going to look great. I am glad I had them put Interlock ">Shakes on my 8ft x 16ft hip-roofed storage shed as well. There are a lot of huge oak trees close to my house and they had caused the heavy cedar hand-split shakes to deteriorate from moss growing on them. I knew I needed a roof that would not have this problem in the future. I am a retired mechanical engineer and had built the house and garage myself. I studied the specs on steel, stone coated steel and several aluminum style shakes, before finally settling on the Interlock product. I believe it will prove to be a good choice. I was very impressed with the quality and design of all the types of flashings, ridge vent, and fasteners that were expertly installed. I truly expect this roof to last and look great for generations. I was also very impressed with the crew who did the work under Juan and Carlos’ direction. They worked tirelessly in some difficult weather conditions and short daylight hours. A number of minor changes were made on the fly with gutters, snow guards and roof penetrations and they were all executed precisely. They were very careful in making sure the roofs were protected overnight, on weekends and during the Christmas holiday. They did a great job of cleaning up the difficult mess made removing the decayed shakes. I guess I won’t know for sure if there are any problems until we get some heavy rains in the spring and summer, but as of now, I would be happy to show the roof and talk to any prospective clients that are considering the Interlock product.

Review: May 21, 2012 Completion: June 30, 2007

Dear Interlock Roofing, We are writing to share with you our experience with you, your employees, and the new roof. We built a brand new home and moved in January 1997. Within a few years, we were experiencing shingles that were curling and being removed by the wind. By the summer of 2007, it was imperative that we re-roof our home. Fortunately, we saw an ad in the local paper for your product. Below are just a few of the benefits we appreciate with the aluminum interlocking roofing shingles: The service and attention to our roofing project by Scott Bohnen from signing the contract to follow-up after the installation. The fact that the workforce followed safety procedures by wearing safety gear (we have a steep roof). Daily attention to our project until it was completed, about one week in total. Aesthetically pleasing roof, with numerous comments by friends and neighbors and those just passing by. EXCELLENT CURB APPEAL! The roof is quieter during rain storms than with regular asphalt shingles. We often have to verify that it is raining by visually looking or going outside. The roof reflects light so that we have experienced reduced air conditioning costs in the summer. In the winter, the heating bill is reduced as well and that may be in part to the aluminum shingle along with the polypropylene lining between the old and new shingles. No matter the reason, our heating and cooling bills are reduced. The fact that the roof is aluminum and it can be recycled at the end of its life expectancy. The 50-year, one time transferable, warranty. We could go on and on but we are very pleased with our roof and thankful that we will never have to re-roof again. Thank you.

Metal Roofing FAQs for Homeowners in New Auburn

The following metal roofing FAQs are designed specifically for homeowners in New Auburn, Minnesota. Whether you are building a new home or replacing an existing roof, understanding how roofing materials perform in local weather conditions is essential. From wind and storm protection to fire resistance, hail impact, snow loads, and coastal moisture exposure, Interlock’s Lifetime Aluminum Roofing System is engineered to provide long-term durability, energy efficiency, and peace of mind in New Auburn.

Does metal roofing handle Minnesota snow loads and ice buildup?

Metal roofing handles snow well because of its smooth, hard surface and the way panels interlock to shed weight evenly. New Auburn gets about 92 centimeters of snow yearly, and that load slides off faster than asphalt shingles because there's no friction to hold it. The four-way interlocking aluminum panels are warranted to 120 mph wind resistance when installed to spec, which also means they stay seated through freeze-thaw cycles—about 78 per year here. Snow guards can be added if you want to control runoff timing. The real advantage: no ice dams forming under the insulation because metal conducts heat away from the roof plane differently than asphalt.

Will freeze-thaw cycles in Minnesota damage an aluminum metal roof?

No—aluminum's oxide layer actually improves with freeze-thaw cycling. New Auburn experiences roughly 78 freeze-thaw days annually, and asphalt shingles absorb moisture that expands and cracks; aluminum is non-porous and cannot absorb water. The 3105-H24 and 3003-H24 aluminum alloy (ASTM B209) used in Interlock panels is chosen specifically for cold climates because it maintains tensile strength in temperature swings. The Alunar 70% PVDF coating—warranted 30 years against chalking and fading—is applied to both sides of every panel, sealing the material completely. With 23 km/h typical wind gusts and occasional spikes to 103 km/h, the panels' interlocking design keeps them rigid under thermal stress.

Can aluminum roofing rust in cold, wet climates?

Aluminum cannot rust because it contains no iron; what forms instead is a protective oxide layer that self-heals when scratched. New Auburn receives about 773 millimeters of rain annually plus snow, so wetness is constant—exactly the environment where steel roofing fails but aluminum thrives. The Alunar 70% PVDF fluorocarbon finish on both sides provides a second line of defense; in salt-air coastal regions, this two-sided coating has performed for decades. The Guardian Warranty explicitly covers rusting, which is why it can be offered lifetime non-prorated for the original owner. In Sibley County's wet, freeze-heavy winters, this corrosion immunity is not a luxury—it's what separates a 50+ year roof from one needing replacement in 15 years.

How does Interlock metal roofing hold up to Minnesota wind and ice storms?

The four-way interlocking panels are engineered to resist wind speeds up to 120 mph when installed to specification, which covers New Auburn's typical gusts and the occasional spike to 103 km/h. Interlock has been installed from coastal regions with salt-driven winds to an Antarctic research station—environments that demand zero panel lift or separation. The interlocking teeth on all four sides of each panel mean wind has nowhere to grab and peel; this is different from side-lapped shingles that depend on nails alone. With about 23 km/h average daily-maximum winds here and regular winter squalls, this panel geometry is why homeowners in Minnesota wind-prone areas don't experience the failures that plague asphalt in the same conditions.

Do I need to reinforce my home's structure for a metal tile roof?

No structural reinforcement needed. The Mediterranean Tile profile installs at roughly 0.59 lb/sq ft—about 96% lighter than concrete or clay tile—so it goes over most existing roofs without any frame upgrades. Interlock panels are manufactured from roofing-grade 3105-H24 and 3003-H24 aluminum alloy, making the entire assembly extraordinarily light compared to traditional masonry tile. New Auburn's homes were built to carry asphalt shingles; metal tile weighs less than the original asphalt, so your rafters and walls remain unstressed. This also means faster installation because crews don't need to tear off the old roof or install new support—they simply install over the existing structure, reducing labor time and landfill waste in one step.

Does metal roofing keep a home cooler in summer?

energy-efficient Interlock colors reflect heat that asphalt absorbs, lowering cooling load on sunny days. New Auburn receives about 3209 sunshine hours per year, and the metal's thermal emissivity rating of 0.84 (measured per Cool Roof Rating Council standards) means it sheds radiant heat rather than storing it. The Aged Copper Penny finish, for example, has initial solar reflectance up to 0.55—more than twice that of dark asphalt. With a mean annual temperature around 8.2°C, you're not in a cooling-heavy climate, but spring and fall heat spikes are real, and every degree of roof temperature reduction cuts air conditioning runtime. The aluminum's reflectivity is permanent because it's built into the material; there's no degradation like roof coatings that chalk over time.

How much maintenance does an Interlock metal roof need?

Metal roofing requires virtually no maintenance compared to asphalt, wood, or traditional tile. Interlock panels don't need sealing, re-nailing, replacing individual pieces, or cleaning to prevent algae or moss growth. New Auburn's 773 millimeters of annual rainfall and 92 centimeters of snow naturally rinse the roof; the smooth aluminum surface and Alunar 70% PVDF coating (warranted 30 years against chalking) resist staining and UV degradation. Wood shake roofs require annual inspection and repair of splits and curls; asphalt shingles degrade yearly; concrete tile cracks and moss in freeze-thaw cycles. Interlock's design—no exposed fasteners, four-way interlocking seams—eliminates the common failure points. The only real task is clearing gutters, which you'd do anyway.

Can you install metal roofing over my existing asphalt shingles?

Yes, Interlock installs directly over most existing roofs with no tear-off, saving time and keeping waste out of landfills. The panels weigh 0.41 to 0.59 lb/sq ft depending on profile—light enough that your existing framing handles the load without reinforcement. Installation typically involves securing the first course of panels, then interlocking each row so the four-way teeth engage automatically; no complex flashing or caulking is needed because water sheds straight off the seams. Interlock has been manufactured since 1998 in Delta, BC, and the process is refined for speed and precision. For a New Auburn home, your local installer (serving the region since 2001) can assess your current roof in one visit and give you an installation timeline; most jobs complete in a few days, not weeks.

Is metal roofing better for the environment than asphalt shingles?

Yes—Interlock aluminum panels are approximately 95% recyclable and break the asphalt tear-off-to-landfill cycle that consumes millions of tons annually. When an asphalt roof reaches end-of-life, all that material goes to the dump; aluminum scrap has lasting value and gets reprocessed into new products indefinitely. New Auburn homeowners who choose Interlock over asphalt avoid generating the waste that a 20-year shingle roof creates; over a 50-year span (the Guardian Warranty's transferable term for the second owner), that's two or three asphalt replacements. The CALGreen-verified roofing classification recognizes this reduced-maintenance, reduced-waste profile. Aluminum production is energy-intensive, but recycled aluminum uses 95% less energy than new—so the longer your roof lasts, the smaller your lifecycle carbon footprint relative to asphalt's repeated replacements.

What's the warranty on Interlock metal roofing, and does it transfer if I sell?

The Guardian Warranty is lifetime limited non-prorated for the original owner, covering rusting, rotting, splitting, cracking, curling, and loss of impact resistance—issues that plague asphalt and wood within 15 to 20 years. If you sell, the warranty transfers once, providing the next owner 50 years of coverage from the roof's completion date. This two-owner protection is possible because aluminum doesn't degrade the way asphalt oxidizes or wood shrinks; the 3105-H24 and 3003-H24 aluminum alloy and Alunar 70% PVDF finish simply don't fail in normal use. New Auburn's 78 annual freeze-thaw cycles would destroy asphalt or wood shake in half that time, but aluminum's material properties improve under thermal cycling. No other roofing type offers this combination of longevity and transferability.
