Review: August 20, 2024 Completion: August 13, 2024

From the start to finish, we loved their work and communication. There were no nails, metal bits, or excessive noise. They listened to all questions and addressed our concerns. They were careful to make no promise of a start date that they could not fulfill. The rain this year made it hard to predict! I would do a commercial for them free to endorse their work and product!

Hi Peter, we wanted to convey to you how much we love our new Interlock roof! Several of our neighbors and friends have said they do, too! We love the look of it, and are so impressed with how beautifully finished it is integrated into the flashing materials. The Interlock scheduling staff was great to work with, and we are so happy with Jessie and his Interlock installation team. They are true craftsmen, and part artists! We loved how they treated our home with respect, and were always willing to address any questions we had. We watched as they worked on items until they had them just right; when we asked about some areas of concern multiple members of the installation team converged on the item and came down to explain and even illustrate with photographs how it was addressed. Again, we couldn't be happier and are enjoying our Interlock roof!

To: Peter Brylinke My Interlock Shake style system was installed in June of 2019. We have now had it for an entire year and experienced the roof through all season, climate and weather conditions. Not only do we value the new look of our roof but the performance of the new roof has been exceptional. In the winter we have seen the snow pile up on it only to slide off as soon as the sun warms it enough. We have noticed a difference in the summers also with a cooler house. The roof has met all of our expectations and we are extremely happy with our decision to install this roof. Last summer when the workers were working on the roof, we were so pleased with the time and effort the workmen put into making sure all aspects of our roof were taken care of. They were courteous, hard working, respectful and considerate of our needs as homeowners. Carlos was instrumental in making sure that we were happy with every aspect of the work that was being done. In closing, we are very impressed with our roof and have recommended this same system to many people we know and many people who just " data-wpil-keyword-link="linked">walk by and ask about it. We feel that we have made a great decision in putting this system on our home. ">" alt="Minneapolis MN 55409 Interlock Roof" width="2560" height="1920" />

Dear Peter, Thank you for your help with the installation and warranty transfer of our interlock roof. We have since sold our house and had good feedback about our roof from potential buyers. Neighbors loved our new roof and we had people drive by and actually snap pictures of it! You were right that the new roof would help sell our home! Thanks for all your help!

Dear Peter, I had Interlock Roofing install my black slate roof in the fall one year ago, and I couldn’t be happier! My roof still looks like new, and really stands out in my neighborhood. My old asphalt shingle roof was leaking. I had to shovel it every time it snowed because of " title="ice dams" data-wpil-keyword-link="linked">ice dams in my older 1950’s house. I have had no issues at all with my new Interlock roof. It was so nice only to have to shovel my driveway this winter and not worry about snow on the roof. It all just slid off in only a few days after each snowfall. Also, the team that you had out to install my roof was exceptional. I was very impressed with the quality of the team that installed my roof. They were all very polite and worked well together as a team. They worked very hard, and got the job done, and completed in less than three days. I’ve never had to have anyone come back to fix or touch anything up. Thank you for the great job the Interlock team did to replace my roof. I would recommend Interlock to anyone needing a new roof without hesitation!

Dear Peter, We remain delighted with our new Interlock roof. It’s now been through 2 Minnesota winters, a hailstorm, and several rain deluges and is still the top-notch performer that you said it would be. Thank you for your and Interlock’s integrity throughout the sale, installation, and service of our roofing project. We remain convinced that Interlock is indeed “the Midwest’s Best Roof”.

Dear Peter, I Wanted to let you know how pleased I am with my new Interlock roof. It looks terrific, and I am anticipating that I will never have to roof rake my roof again now that your product has been installed. My house is small, a 3-bedroom rambler, but the visual impact the Interlock roof has added makes it look like a castle! All of the contact I have had with your personnel, from yourself to the lead foreman on the job and the men doing the install was pleasant and professional. The cleanup after the job was done was great and it only took 1-1/2 days for a complete tear-off to complete the installation. Please use this letter as a personal recommendation for your company and your product.

Dear Peter, Installing the Interlock roof on our home has completely transformed and improved our home’s appearance. The installation of the roof along with the greatly improved flashings have made a great difference. Because of that, our stucco was able to match our home so we look like new. An improvement I didn’t expect was the change in temperature of our second floor. Usually unbearable " data-wpil-keyword-link="linked">hot on a 90-degree day. It’s now 10-15 degree cooler and livable. We also received a sizeable discount on our homeowners’ insurance because of the roof’s resistance to fire. We’re sure that having to “Never roof again” will help us sell our house should that be necessary. Thank you from two satisfied customers.

Review: January 28, 2016 Completion: December 28, 2015

My Interlock ">Shake Style Roof in Aged Copper color was installed between December 21st and December 31st. Snow has covered most of the house and garage since it was installed, so I haven’t been able to enjoy the new look yet, but during the installation and before the snow it was obvious it I going to look great. I am glad I had them put Interlock ">Shakes on my 8ft x 16ft hip-roofed storage shed as well. There are a lot of huge oak trees close to my house and they had caused the heavy cedar hand-split shakes to deteriorate from moss growing on them. I knew I needed a roof that would not have this problem in the future. I am a retired mechanical engineer and had built the house and garage myself. I studied the specs on steel, stone coated steel and several aluminum style shakes, before finally settling on the Interlock product. I believe it will prove to be a good choice. I was very impressed with the quality and design of all the types of flashings, ridge vent, and fasteners that were expertly installed. I truly expect this roof to last and look great for generations. I was also very impressed with the crew who did the work under Juan and Carlos’ direction. They worked tirelessly in some difficult weather conditions and short daylight hours. A number of minor changes were made on the fly with gutters, snow guards and roof penetrations and they were all executed precisely. They were very careful in making sure the roofs were protected overnight, on weekends and during the Christmas holiday. They did a great job of cleaning up the difficult mess made removing the decayed shakes. I guess I won’t know for sure if there are any problems until we get some heavy rains in the spring and summer, but as of now, I would be happy to show the roof and talk to any prospective clients that are considering the Interlock product.

Review: May 21, 2012 Completion: June 30, 2007

Dear Interlock Roofing, We are writing to share with you our experience with you, your employees, and the new roof. We built a brand new home and moved in January 1997. Within a few years, we were experiencing shingles that were curling and being removed by the wind. By the summer of 2007, it was imperative that we re-roof our home. Fortunately, we saw an ad in the local paper for your product. Below are just a few of the benefits we appreciate with the aluminum interlocking roofing shingles: The service and attention to our roofing project by Scott Bohnen from signing the contract to follow-up after the installation. The fact that the workforce followed safety procedures by wearing safety gear (we have a steep roof). Daily attention to our project until it was completed, about one week in total. Aesthetically pleasing roof, with numerous comments by friends and neighbors and those just passing by. EXCELLENT CURB APPEAL! The roof is quieter during rain storms than with regular asphalt shingles. We often have to verify that it is raining by visually looking or going outside. The roof reflects light so that we have experienced reduced air conditioning costs in the summer. In the winter, the heating bill is reduced as well and that may be in part to the aluminum shingle along with the polypropylene lining between the old and new shingles. No matter the reason, our heating and cooling bills are reduced. The fact that the roof is aluminum and it can be recycled at the end of its life expectancy. The 50-year, one time transferable, warranty. We could go on and on but we are very pleased with our roof and thankful that we will never have to re-roof again. Thank you.

Metal Roofing FAQs for Homeowners in Winthrop

The following metal roofing FAQs are designed specifically for homeowners in Winthrop, Minnesota. Whether you are building a new home or replacing an existing roof, understanding how roofing materials perform in local weather conditions is essential. From wind and storm protection to fire resistance, hail impact, snow loads, and coastal moisture exposure, Interlock’s Lifetime Aluminum Roofing System is engineered to provide long-term durability, energy efficiency, and peace of mind in Winthrop.

How does a metal roof handle Winthrop's heavy snow and ice buildup?

Interlock's four-way interlocking aluminum panels shed snow and ice efficiently because the smooth, hard surface prevents adhesion—unlike asphalt shingles that trap moisture and freeze. With about 91 cm of snow annually and roughly 79 freeze-thaw cycles per year here, a metal roof's thermal conductivity actually works in your favor: heat loss from inside the home prevents ice dams from forming at the eaves. The panels are warranted for snow loads up to the code requirement for Sibley County. Optional snow guards can be installed if you want controlled release rather than natural shedding.

Will freeze-thaw cycles in Minnesota damage an aluminum metal roof?

No—aluminum actually improves with freeze-thaw stress. Unlike asphalt shingles that become brittle and crack, or wood that splits and warps, the 3105-H24 / 3003-H24 aluminum alloy remains flexible through temperature swings. Winthrop experiences about 79 freeze-thaw days yearly, plus roughly 744 mm of rain, creating repeated wet-freeze-wet cycles. Aluminum's self-healing oxide layer resists corrosion through these cycles without needing coatings to fail. The Alunar 70% PVDF fluorocarbon finish is warranted 30 years against degradation (ASTM D4214), so the protection actually strengthens over time rather than wearing down.

Can aluminum roofing rust in Minnesota's wet climate?

Aluminum cannot rust because it contains no iron—the element that oxidizes and weakens steel. Instead, aluminum forms a thin, invisible oxide layer that actually protects the underlying metal and self-heals when scratched. This is why Interlock panels have been installed in coastal salt-air homes and even an Antarctic research station since 1998. In Winthrop's climate (about 744 mm annual rain, moderate humidity), standard roofing-grade aluminum needs no special treatment; the Alunar coating on both sides provides 30-year fading and chalking protection as an additional safeguard. Steel roofing, by contrast, requires protective coatings that eventually thin and expose iron to corrosion.

Will a metal roof stay secure during Winthrop's wind and gusts?

Yes. Interlock panels are four-way interlocked—each panel locks to its neighbors on all four sides—and the system is warranted to resist wind speeds up to 120 mph (193 km/h) when installed to specification. Winthrop's typical wind gusts reach about 103 km/h, meaning your roof carries nearly a 90 km/h safety margin above local conditions. The interlocking geometry distributes wind load across the entire panel network rather than concentrating force on fasteners. This is why the warranty covers the panels themselves, not just the fasteners—the engineering assumes the fasteners will hold before the panels fail.

What hail protection does an aluminum metal roof offer, and will insurance notice?

Interlock metal roofing carries the highest impact rating available: UL 2218 Class 4. The warranty even covers perforation from hailstones up to 1.5 inches. In a region like Winthrop with occasional severe weather, this non-negotiable resilience often qualifies homeowners for insurance premium reductions—contact your agent with the UL 2218 Class 4 rating and ESR-1790 code evaluation (ICC). Aluminum's density and the Alunar coating resist denting that would weaken asphalt shingles. Many insurers recognize metal roofing as a loss-reduction measure, so the upfront material cost may offset faster through lower premiums over 20–30 years.

Do I need to reinforce my house to support a metal roof?

No structural reinforcement is required. Interlock's Slate profile installs at approximately 0.41 lb/sq ft, and the Mediterranean Tile—which visually replaces heavy concrete or clay tile—weighs only about 0.59 lb/sq ft, roughly 96% lighter than the tile it replicates. Most homes' framing already supports asphalt shingles (about 2–3 lb/sq ft), so an aluminum metal roof is significantly lighter. This matters in Winthrop where roofs bear about 91 cm of snow annually: a lighter roof distributes snow load more efficiently across your structure. Interlock panels install over most existing roofs, saving the cost and landfill impact of a tear-off.

Does a metal roof actually cool your home or reduce energy bills?

Yes, when you choose energy-efficient colors. Interlock's reflective finishes achieve initial solar reflectance up to 0.55 and thermal emissivity of 0.84, meaning they bounce heat away rather than absorbing it like asphalt. Winthrop receives about 3,215 sunshine hours annually; every hour of direct sun on a dark asphalt roof adds interior cooling demand, while a reflective metal roof with those same colors reflects that energy. The Cool Roof Rating Council rating confirms the effect. energy-efficiency colors won't eliminate summer cooling, but they reduce peak load. In Minnesota's climate with roughly 8.2°C mean temperature, winter heating dominates—but reflective roofing still helps by reducing morning solar gain on cool days.

What is the actual lifespan of an Interlock metal roof, and what does the warranty cover?

The Guardian lifetime limited warranty covers the original owner against rusting, rotting, splitting, cracking, curling, and loss of impact resistance—with zero prorations. The next owner gets a one-time transferable 50-year term, effectively making this the last roof you buy. Field installations since 1998 across salt-air and extreme climates demonstrate 25+ years of verified performance; the warranty reflects that real-world durability. Asphalt typically lasts 15–20 years and ends in landfill; metal avoids the cycle. Over a 50-year ownership horizon, one metal roof replaces three asphalt roofs, plus tear-off labor and disposal costs.

How much maintenance does a metal roof need compared to asphalt or wood shingles?

Aluminum requires minimal maintenance: occasional gutter cleaning and a gentle rinse if visible debris accumulates. Unlike asphalt shingles (which crack, curl, and lose granules in freeze-thaw cycles like Winthrop's ~79 per year), or wood (which splits, rots, and attracts pests), aluminum is inert. It won't degrade from moisture, and the two-sided Alunar 70% PVDF coating is warranted 30 years against fading and chalking per ASTM D4214. Moss and algae don't adhere to smooth metal as they do asphalt. With about 744 mm annual rain and 91 cm of snow, the self-shedding design keeps the roof clear without intervention. You'll never replace shingles, repair splits, or treat wood preservative.

Is metal roofing better for the environment than asphalt shingles?

Aluminum roofing is approximately 95% recyclable at end of life, and recycled aluminum requires only about 5% of the energy needed to refine new metal from ore. When an asphalt roof fails (typically 15–20 years), the old shingles are torn off and sent to landfill—a process repeated three times during a 50-year period. Interlock's single installation eliminates that cycle. The material itself is non-toxic and won't off-gas or leach in Winthrop's ~744 mm annual rainfall. Because the roof lasts a lifetime and transfers to the next owner for 50 years, total embodied energy—the energy invested per year of service—is far lower than asphalt. CALGreen-verified, the system reduces lifecycle maintenance waste too.
