What our customers are saying:
From the start to finish, we loved their work and communication. There were no nails, metal bits, or excessive noise. They listened to all questions and addressed our concerns. They were careful to make no promise of a start date that they could not fulfill. The rain this year made it hard to predict! I would do a commercial for them free to endorse their work and product!
Hi Peter, we wanted to convey to you how much we love our new Interlock roof! Several of our neighbors and friends have said they do, too! We love the look of it, and are so impressed with how beautifully finished it is integrated into the flashing materials. The Interlock scheduling staff was great to work with, and we are so happy with Jessie and his Interlock installation team. They are true craftsmen, and part artists! We loved how they treated our home with respect, and were always willing to address any questions we had. We watched as they worked on items until they had them just right; when we asked about some areas of concern multiple members of the installation team converged on the item and came down to explain and even illustrate with photographs how it was addressed. Again, we couldn't be happier and are enjoying our Interlock roof!
To: Peter Brylinke My Interlock Shake style system was installed in June of 2019. We have now had it for an entire year and experienced the roof through all season, climate and weather conditions. Not only do we value the new look of our roof but the performance of the new roof has been exceptional. In the winter we have seen the snow pile up on it only to slide off as soon as the sun warms it enough. We have noticed a difference in the summers also with a cooler house. The roof has met all of our expectations and we are extremely happy with our decision to install this roof. Last summer when the workers were working on the roof, we were so pleased with the time and effort the workmen put into making sure all aspects of our roof were taken care of. They were courteous, hard working, respectful and considerate of our needs as homeowners. Carlos was instrumental in making sure that we were happy with every aspect of the work that was being done. In closing, we are very impressed with our roof and have recommended this same system to many people we know and many people who just " data-wpil-keyword-link="linked">walk by and ask about it. We feel that we have made a great decision in putting this system on our home. ">" alt="Minneapolis MN 55409 Interlock Roof" width="2560" height="1920" />
Dear Peter, Thank you for your help with the installation and warranty transfer of our interlock roof. We have since sold our house and had good feedback about our roof from potential buyers. Neighbors loved our new roof and we had people drive by and actually snap pictures of it! You were right that the new roof would help sell our home! Thanks for all your help!
Dear Peter, I had Interlock Roofing install my black slate roof in the fall one year ago, and I couldn’t be happier! My roof still looks like new, and really stands out in my neighborhood. My old asphalt shingle roof was leaking. I had to shovel it every time it snowed because of " title="ice dams" data-wpil-keyword-link="linked">ice dams in my older 1950’s house. I have had no issues at all with my new Interlock roof. It was so nice only to have to shovel my driveway this winter and not worry about snow on the roof. It all just slid off in only a few days after each snowfall. Also, the team that you had out to install my roof was exceptional. I was very impressed with the quality of the team that installed my roof. They were all very polite and worked well together as a team. They worked very hard, and got the job done, and completed in less than three days. I’ve never had to have anyone come back to fix or touch anything up. Thank you for the great job the Interlock team did to replace my roof. I would recommend Interlock to anyone needing a new roof without hesitation!
Dear Peter, We remain delighted with our new Interlock roof. It’s now been through 2 Minnesota winters, a hailstorm, and several rain deluges and is still the top-notch performer that you said it would be. Thank you for your and Interlock’s integrity throughout the sale, installation, and service of our roofing project. We remain convinced that Interlock is indeed “the Midwest’s Best Roof”.
Dear Peter, I Wanted to let you know how pleased I am with my new Interlock roof. It looks terrific, and I am anticipating that I will never have to roof rake my roof again now that your product has been installed. My house is small, a 3-bedroom rambler, but the visual impact the Interlock roof has added makes it look like a castle! All of the contact I have had with your personnel, from yourself to the lead foreman on the job and the men doing the install was pleasant and professional. The cleanup after the job was done was great and it only took 1-1/2 days for a complete tear-off to complete the installation. Please use this letter as a personal recommendation for your company and your product.
Dear Peter, Installing the Interlock roof on our home has completely transformed and improved our home’s appearance. The installation of the roof along with the greatly improved flashings have made a great difference. Because of that, our stucco was able to match our home so we look like new. An improvement I didn’t expect was the change in temperature of our second floor. Usually unbearable " data-wpil-keyword-link="linked">hot on a 90-degree day. It’s now 10-15 degree cooler and livable. We also received a sizeable discount on our homeowners’ insurance because of the roof’s resistance to fire. We’re sure that having to “Never roof again” will help us sell our house should that be necessary. Thank you from two satisfied customers.
My Interlock ">Shake Style Roof in Aged Copper color was installed between December 21st and December 31st. Snow has covered most of the house and garage since it was installed, so I haven’t been able to enjoy the new look yet, but during the installation and before the snow it was obvious it I going to look great. I am glad I had them put Interlock ">Shakes on my 8ft x 16ft hip-roofed storage shed as well. There are a lot of huge oak trees close to my house and they had caused the heavy cedar hand-split shakes to deteriorate from moss growing on them. I knew I needed a roof that would not have this problem in the future. I am a retired mechanical engineer and had built the house and garage myself. I studied the specs on steel, stone coated steel and several aluminum style shakes, before finally settling on the Interlock product. I believe it will prove to be a good choice. I was very impressed with the quality and design of all the types of flashings, ridge vent, and fasteners that were expertly installed. I truly expect this roof to last and look great for generations. I was also very impressed with the crew who did the work under Juan and Carlos’ direction. They worked tirelessly in some difficult weather conditions and short daylight hours. A number of minor changes were made on the fly with gutters, snow guards and roof penetrations and they were all executed precisely. They were very careful in making sure the roofs were protected overnight, on weekends and during the Christmas holiday. They did a great job of cleaning up the difficult mess made removing the decayed shakes. I guess I won’t know for sure if there are any problems until we get some heavy rains in the spring and summer, but as of now, I would be happy to show the roof and talk to any prospective clients that are considering the Interlock product.
I love my new roof. It looks great and I know the house is in better shape without the heavy deteriorating asphalt shingles. My house is the only one on the block with no snow on the roof, and I can't wait to hear it in the rain
We are delighted with the workmanship and quality of our new roof. It has exceeded our expectations, and we highly recommend an Interlock Roof to anyone looking to replace an old roof.
Dear Interlock Roofing, We are writing to share with you our experience with you, your employees, and the new roof. We built a brand new home and moved in January 1997. Within a few years, we were experiencing shingles that were curling and being removed by the wind. By the summer of 2007, it was imperative that we re-roof our home. Fortunately, we saw an ad in the local paper for your product. Below are just a few of the benefits we appreciate with the aluminum interlocking roofing shingles: The service and attention to our roofing project by Scott Bohnen from signing the contract to follow-up after the installation. The fact that the workforce followed safety procedures by wearing safety gear (we have a steep roof). Daily attention to our project until it was completed, about one week in total. Aesthetically pleasing roof, with numerous comments by friends and neighbors and those just passing by. EXCELLENT CURB APPEAL! The roof is quieter during rain storms than with regular asphalt shingles. We often have to verify that it is raining by visually looking or going outside. The roof reflects light so that we have experienced reduced air conditioning costs in the summer. In the winter, the heating bill is reduced as well and that may be in part to the aluminum shingle along with the polypropylene lining between the old and new shingles. No matter the reason, our heating and cooling bills are reduced. The fact that the roof is aluminum and it can be recycled at the end of its life expectancy. The 50-year, one time transferable, warranty. We could go on and on but we are very pleased with our roof and thankful that we will never have to re-roof again. Thank you.

Metal Roofing FAQs for Homeowners in Washington Lake Township
The following metal roofing FAQs are designed specifically for homeowners in Washington Lake Township, Minnesota. Whether you are building a new home or replacing an existing roof, understanding how roofing materials perform in local weather conditions is essential. From wind and storm protection to fire resistance, hail impact, snow loads, and coastal moisture exposure, Interlock’s Lifetime Aluminum Roofing System is engineered to provide long-term durability, energy efficiency, and peace of mind in Washington Lake Township.
How does a metal roof handle heavy snow and freeze-thaw cycles in Minnesota winters?
Metal roofs shed snow effectively due to their smooth, hard surface and tight interlocking seams—critical in Washington Lake Township, where you average about 92 cm of snow annually and experience roughly 78 freeze-thaw days per year. The four-way interlocking aluminum panels eliminate the gaps where ice dams form. Unlike asphalt, aluminum's oxide layer doesn't crack or become brittle during freeze-thaw swings, so the roof maintains its seal year after year without the splitting and curling that plague traditional shingles.
Why is aluminum better than steel roofing in a climate with significant snow and moisture?
Aluminum contains no iron, so it physically cannot rust—that's a chemistry fact, not marketing. Instead, it forms a thin, self-healing oxide layer that actually protects the metal underneath. Steel roofs, by contrast, must rely entirely on their paint or coating to prevent corrosion; once that coating is scratched (by ice, snow removal, or foot traffic), rust begins eating away. With 773 mm of annual rainfall in your area, choosing a material that rusts at the molecular level risks costly failures within 15–20 years.
Will a metal roof survive the freeze-thaw cycling we get in Washington Lake Township?
Yes—aluminum's properties make it one of the few roofing materials that actually improves under freeze-thaw stress. The metal expands and contracts predictably without developing the micro-fractures that weaken asphalt, wood, or concrete tile over 78 freeze-thaw cycles per year. The three-mil Alunar PVDF coating (same fluorocarbon used on aircraft) flexes with the aluminum and is warranted 30 years against chalking and fading under ASTM testing, so repeated thermal cycling doesn't degrade the finish. Asphalt shingles lose granules and crack; aluminum simply returns to its original state.
Can a metal roof stand up to Minnesota wind gusts?
Your region experiences typical gusts around 103 km/h (about 64 mph), well within the roof's design. Interlock panels are warranted to resist wind speeds up to 120 mph when installed to specification, thanks to four-way interlocking that creates a continuous, unified surface rather than thousands of separate shingles. Each panel locks on all four sides, so uplift forces that peel asphalt shingles away from the deck instead distribute across the entire roof assembly. This engineering detail is why the warranty explicitly covers wind performance—something asphalt manufacturers rarely do.
Do I need to reinforce my roof structure for a metal roof?
No structural reinforcement is needed. The Mediterranean Tile profile, which visually mimics expensive clay or concrete tile, weighs just ~0.59 lb/sq ft—about 96% lighter than the material it replicates. Even the heavier Shake profile at ~0.58 lb/sq ft is still a fraction of traditional tile weight. Most homes can install Interlock directly over existing asphalt shingles without adding a single truss or beam, which saves tens of thousands in structural engineering and labor. This weight advantage matters when budget and timeline are tight.
What's the hail rating for this metal roof, and could it lower my insurance premium?
Interlock achieves the highest hail impact classification available: UL 2218 Class 4, which means it resists impacts from 2-inch hailstones without loss of function. The warranty even covers perforation from hailstones up to 1.5 inches. Aluminum's inherent dent-resistance (it flexes rather than cracks like asphalt or wood) combined with the robust alloy (3105-H24 / 3003-H24 per ASTM B209) means your roof survives what would total an asphalt roof. Many insurance companies recognize this durability and offer discounts; contact your agent with the UL 2218 Class 4 rating to discuss potential savings.
Does a metal roof really save energy in Minnesota, or is that just for hot climates?
Reflecting heat rather than absorbing it cuts cooling costs, especially on sunny days—Washington Lake Township receives about 3209 sunshine hours per year. energy-efficient colors achieve thermal emissivity of 0.84 and solar reflectance up to 0.55, meaning they bounce back the infrared radiation that asphalt absorbs and converts to heat in your attic. The Aged Copper Penny finish, for example, reflects heat while looking warm and natural from the street. Over a 30-year lifespan, this reflectivity compounds into measurable energy savings and keeps your home cooler during Minnesota's warmer months without costly air-conditioning upgrades.
Is a metal roof worth the upfront cost compared to asphalt over the long term?
Yes, when you calculate the full lifecycle. Asphalt lasts 15–25 years and then you pay to remove and landfill it; Interlock is warranted for the lifetime of your ownership (transferable to the next owner for 50 years), with a non-prorated material warranty covering rusting, rotting, splitting, cracking, and curling. After the first roof, you never replace it again. Factor in asphalt's rising tear-off costs, re-shingling labor, and the fact that you'll likely reroof twice in the time Interlock lasts once, and the aluminum roof becomes the cheaper option by tens of thousands of dollars—before considering energy savings, insurance discounts, or resale value.
How much maintenance does a metal roof actually need?
Far less than asphalt, wood shake, or tile. Aluminum won't rot, split, curl, or require periodic treatments. Gutters need cleaning (same as with any roof), and after heavy snow you may want to clear the roof if ice dams are a concern—but the interlocking design actually prevents most ice dams from forming. The Alunar PVDF coating (applied to both sides) resists algae and mineral staining, so you don't face the green-roof problem common in humid climates. With 92 cm of snow and 773 mm of rain annually, a self-cleaning surface that doesn't degrade is a major advantage. CALGreen verification confirms reduced maintenance requirements versus traditional materials.
Can you install a metal roof over my existing asphalt shingles, and how long does it take?
Yes—one of the largest advantages for homeowners. Because aluminum roofing is so light (~0.41 lb/sq ft for Shingle profile), it typically installs directly over existing asphalt without stripping the old roof. This eliminates debris removal, labor, and landfill fees, cutting weeks off the timeline and thousands from the project cost. A full installation on a typical home takes 3–7 days depending on roof pitch and weather (rain and snow are common in Washington Lake Township, but cold doesn't slow the install). The local Interlock team has been serving this region since 2001 and coordinates with your existing roof to ensure proper ventilation and drainage underneath.
