| Spec / Rating | Climate / Risk Factor + What It Solves |
|---|---|
| Wind resistance: 120+ mph (193+ kph) | Extreme wind, hurricanes, storm uplift: full interlocking attachment helps prevent blow-offs, edge lifting, and panel loss in high-gust events. |
| Fire rating: Class A (with proper assembly) | Wildfire, embers, radiant heat, chimney sparks: non-combustible roof assembly provides the highest residential fire protection rating. |
| Hail resistance: UL 2218 Class 4 | Hail and impact debris: highest impact classification; resists cracking, splitting, and surface loss common with asphalt under hail strikes. |
| Snow & ice performance: interlocking, shedding profile | Heavy snow, freeze-thaw, ice dams: smooth aluminum sheds snow efficiently and the interlocking design helps block water intrusion when melt-refreeze cycles occur. (Final snow-load capacity depends on roof structure and local code.) |

What our customers are saying:
From the start to finish, we loved their work and communication. There were no nails, metal bits, or excessive noise. They listened to all questions and addressed our concerns. They were careful to make no promise of a start date that they could not fulfill. The rain this year made it hard to predict! I would do a commercial for them free to endorse their work and product!
Hi Peter, we wanted to convey to you how much we love our new Interlock roof! Several of our neighbors and friends have said they do, too! We love the look of it, and are so impressed with how beautifully finished it is integrated into the flashing materials. The Interlock scheduling staff was great to work with, and we are so happy with Jessie and his Interlock installation team. They are true craftsmen, and part artists! We loved how they treated our home with respect, and were always willing to address any questions we had. We watched as they worked on items until they had them just right; when we asked about some areas of concern multiple members of the installation team converged on the item and came down to explain and even illustrate with photographs how it was addressed. Again, we couldn't be happier and are enjoying our Interlock roof!
To: Peter Brylinke My Interlock Shake style system was installed in June of 2019. We have now had it for an entire year and experienced the roof through all season, climate and weather conditions. Not only do we value the new look of our roof but the performance of the new roof has been exceptional. In the winter we have seen the snow pile up on it only to slide off as soon as the sun warms it enough. We have noticed a difference in the summers also with a cooler house. The roof has met all of our expectations and we are extremely happy with our decision to install this roof. Last summer when the workers were working on the roof, we were so pleased with the time and effort the workmen put into making sure all aspects of our roof were taken care of. They were courteous, hard working, respectful and considerate of our needs as homeowners. Carlos was instrumental in making sure that we were happy with every aspect of the work that was being done. In closing, we are very impressed with our roof and have recommended this same system to many people we know and many people who just " data-wpil-keyword-link="linked">walk by and ask about it. We feel that we have made a great decision in putting this system on our home. ">" alt="Minneapolis MN 55409 Interlock Roof" width="2560" height="1920" />
Dear Peter, Thank you for your help with the installation and warranty transfer of our interlock roof. We have since sold our house and had good feedback about our roof from potential buyers. Neighbors loved our new roof and we had people drive by and actually snap pictures of it! You were right that the new roof would help sell our home! Thanks for all your help!
Dear Peter, I had Interlock Roofing install my black slate roof in the fall one year ago, and I couldn’t be happier! My roof still looks like new, and really stands out in my neighborhood. My old asphalt shingle roof was leaking. I had to shovel it every time it snowed because of " title="ice dams" data-wpil-keyword-link="linked">ice dams in my older 1950’s house. I have had no issues at all with my new Interlock roof. It was so nice only to have to shovel my driveway this winter and not worry about snow on the roof. It all just slid off in only a few days after each snowfall. Also, the team that you had out to install my roof was exceptional. I was very impressed with the quality of the team that installed my roof. They were all very polite and worked well together as a team. They worked very hard, and got the job done, and completed in less than three days. I’ve never had to have anyone come back to fix or touch anything up. Thank you for the great job the Interlock team did to replace my roof. I would recommend Interlock to anyone needing a new roof without hesitation!
Dear Peter, We remain delighted with our new Interlock roof. It’s now been through 2 Minnesota winters, a hailstorm, and several rain deluges and is still the top-notch performer that you said it would be. Thank you for your and Interlock’s integrity throughout the sale, installation, and service of our roofing project. We remain convinced that Interlock is indeed “the Midwest’s Best Roof”.
Dear Peter, I Wanted to let you know how pleased I am with my new Interlock roof. It looks terrific, and I am anticipating that I will never have to roof rake my roof again now that your product has been installed. My house is small, a 3-bedroom rambler, but the visual impact the Interlock roof has added makes it look like a castle! All of the contact I have had with your personnel, from yourself to the lead foreman on the job and the men doing the install was pleasant and professional. The cleanup after the job was done was great and it only took 1-1/2 days for a complete tear-off to complete the installation. Please use this letter as a personal recommendation for your company and your product.
Dear Peter, Installing the Interlock roof on our home has completely transformed and improved our home’s appearance. The installation of the roof along with the greatly improved flashings have made a great difference. Because of that, our stucco was able to match our home so we look like new. An improvement I didn’t expect was the change in temperature of our second floor. Usually unbearable " data-wpil-keyword-link="linked">hot on a 90-degree day. It’s now 10-15 degree cooler and livable. We also received a sizeable discount on our homeowners’ insurance because of the roof’s resistance to fire. We’re sure that having to “Never roof again” will help us sell our house should that be necessary. Thank you from two satisfied customers.
My Interlock ">Shake Style Roof in Aged Copper color was installed between December 21st and December 31st. Snow has covered most of the house and garage since it was installed, so I haven’t been able to enjoy the new look yet, but during the installation and before the snow it was obvious it I going to look great. I am glad I had them put Interlock ">Shakes on my 8ft x 16ft hip-roofed storage shed as well. There are a lot of huge oak trees close to my house and they had caused the heavy cedar hand-split shakes to deteriorate from moss growing on them. I knew I needed a roof that would not have this problem in the future. I am a retired mechanical engineer and had built the house and garage myself. I studied the specs on steel, stone coated steel and several aluminum style shakes, before finally settling on the Interlock product. I believe it will prove to be a good choice. I was very impressed with the quality and design of all the types of flashings, ridge vent, and fasteners that were expertly installed. I truly expect this roof to last and look great for generations. I was also very impressed with the crew who did the work under Juan and Carlos’ direction. They worked tirelessly in some difficult weather conditions and short daylight hours. A number of minor changes were made on the fly with gutters, snow guards and roof penetrations and they were all executed precisely. They were very careful in making sure the roofs were protected overnight, on weekends and during the Christmas holiday. They did a great job of cleaning up the difficult mess made removing the decayed shakes. I guess I won’t know for sure if there are any problems until we get some heavy rains in the spring and summer, but as of now, I would be happy to show the roof and talk to any prospective clients that are considering the Interlock product.
I love my new roof. It looks great and I know the house is in better shape without the heavy deteriorating asphalt shingles. My house is the only one on the block with no snow on the roof, and I can't wait to hear it in the rain
We are delighted with the workmanship and quality of our new roof. It has exceeded our expectations, and we highly recommend an Interlock Roof to anyone looking to replace an old roof.
Dear Interlock Roofing, We are writing to share with you our experience with you, your employees, and the new roof. We built a brand new home and moved in January 1997. Within a few years, we were experiencing shingles that were curling and being removed by the wind. By the summer of 2007, it was imperative that we re-roof our home. Fortunately, we saw an ad in the local paper for your product. Below are just a few of the benefits we appreciate with the aluminum interlocking roofing shingles: The service and attention to our roofing project by Scott Bohnen from signing the contract to follow-up after the installation. The fact that the workforce followed safety procedures by wearing safety gear (we have a steep roof). Daily attention to our project until it was completed, about one week in total. Aesthetically pleasing roof, with numerous comments by friends and neighbors and those just passing by. EXCELLENT CURB APPEAL! The roof is quieter during rain storms than with regular asphalt shingles. We often have to verify that it is raining by visually looking or going outside. The roof reflects light so that we have experienced reduced air conditioning costs in the summer. In the winter, the heating bill is reduced as well and that may be in part to the aluminum shingle along with the polypropylene lining between the old and new shingles. No matter the reason, our heating and cooling bills are reduced. The fact that the roof is aluminum and it can be recycled at the end of its life expectancy. The 50-year, one time transferable, warranty. We could go on and on but we are very pleased with our roof and thankful that we will never have to re-roof again. Thank you.

Metal Roofing FAQs for Homeowners in Oak Park
The following metal roofing FAQs are designed specifically for homeowners in Oak Park, Minnesota. Whether you are building a new home or replacing an existing roof, understanding how roofing materials perform in local weather conditions is essential. From wind and storm protection to fire resistance, hail impact, snow loads, and coastal moisture exposure, Interlock’s Lifetime Aluminum Roofing System is engineered to provide long-term durability, energy efficiency, and peace of mind in Oak Park.
How does a metal roof handle heavy snow and ice dams in Minnesota winters?
Interlock's four-way interlocking aluminum panels shed snow and ice efficiently because the smooth surface and sloped design prevent buildup, while optional snow guards let you control slide-off. Oak Park receives about 96 cm of snow annually across roughly 83 freeze-thaw cycles, making material durability critical—aluminum's oxide layer never rusts or weakens, even through repeated thaw cycles that crack asphalt shingles and split wood. The panels install so lightly (~0.41 lb/sq ft for Slate) that no structural reinforcement is needed, so your home safely handles any snow load without added weight.
Will freeze-thaw cycles damage an aluminum roof over time?
No—aluminum is naturally freeze-thaw resistant because it contains no iron and cannot rust or corrode, even when repeatedly exposed to moisture and freezing. Oak Park experiences about 83 freeze-thaw days yearly plus 683 mm of rain, conditions that routinely degrade asphalt and cause wood to split; aluminum simply doesn't absorb water, so expansion and contraction that cracks other materials won't affect it. The Alunar 70% PVDF fluorocarbon coating (both sides, 30-year warranty) adds another protective layer, keeping the metal's self-healing oxide barrier intact through Minnesota's toughest seasons.
Can metal roofing withstand Minnesota's spring and winter wind gusts?
Yes—Interlock's four-way interlocking panels are warranted to resist wind speeds up to 120 mph, and Oak Park's typical gusts reach about 108 km/h (67 mph), well within that rated capacity. The interlocking design means each panel is mechanically secured to its neighbors, so wind cannot lift or separate individual pieces. This redundancy matters in a region where spring storms and winter gales are common; loose asphalt shingles fail at much lower wind speeds, but Interlock's engineered fastening system keeps the entire roof system rigid and bonded, giving you genuine peace of mind during severe weather.
What protection does a metal roof offer against hail, and will my insurance recognize it?
Interlock holds the highest available impact rating: UL 2218 Class 4, and the Guardian Warranty even covers perforation from hailstones up to 1.5 inches. Because aluminum panels are extremely durable and rarely dent or perforate (unlike asphalt or wood shingles that split easily), many insurers recognize metal roofing as a risk reducer and may offer premium discounts—contact your agent with the UL rating and ESR-1790 code compliance documentation. In a climate where hail is less predictable than freeze-thaw cycles, this class-leading rating ensures your roof won't be compromised by the next severe storm.
Doesn't metal roofing rust? How is aluminum different from steel?
Aluminum cannot rust because rust requires iron, and Interlock uses roofing-grade 3105-H24 / 3003-H24 aluminum alloy (ASTM B209)—zero iron content. Instead, aluminum forms a microscopically thin oxide layer that actually self-heals when scratched, protecting the metal beneath. Steel roofing, by contrast, rusts without a protective coating and can perforate over decades. Oak Park's 683 mm annual rainfall and freeze-thaw exposure would gradually compromise uncoated steel, but aluminum remains inert; paired with the two-sided Alunar 70% PVDF fluorocarbon finish (30-year warranty), your roof is chemically protected against moisture and salt air year-round.
Can my house support a metal roof, or will I need expensive structural work?
No structural reinforcement is needed—Interlock's extraordinary lightness means even the heavier profiles install without additional support. The Mediterranean Tile profile, for example, weighs only ~0.59 lb/sq ft, making it about 96% lighter than concrete or clay tile, so it installs safely over most existing roofs. This matters in Oak Park, where homes built decades ago were never designed for heavy slate or tile; aluminum lets you achieve that elegant aesthetic without hiring engineers or reinforcing trusses and walls. Installation is straightforward, faster, and dramatically less disruptive to your daily life compared to the structural invasiveness of traditional heavy materials.
Is a metal roof worth the upfront cost compared to asphalt shingles?
Yes—calculate the total cost of ownership over the roof's lifespan, not just the first bill. Asphalt fails every 15–25 years in Oak Park's harsh climate (96 cm snow, 83 freeze-thaw cycles, 108 km/h gusts), forcing multiple replacements; a metal roof installed once handles decades without failure. The Guardian Warranty is lifetime limited and non-prorated for the original owner, and it even transfers to the next owner for 50 years from completion, protecting your investment and boosting resale appeal. When you factor in no tear-off fees, no missed days from roofing crews, and no emergency repairs, Interlock becomes the last roof you'll buy—a genuine financial anchor for your home.
Will a metal roof keep my house cooler in summer or warmer in winter?
Yes—energy-efficient Interlock colors reflect solar heat rather than absorbing it, reducing cooling costs and peak demand. Measured values reach initial solar reflectance up to 0.55 and thermal emissivity of 0.84, meaning hot sun bounces away while any absorbed warmth radiates back out; this is particularly valuable in Oak Park's ~3,127 sunshine hours yearly. The metal conducts temperature changes quickly, so it also works with your heating system in winter, avoiding the heat-trapping dead zones that insulation-poor asphalt creates. Combined with proper attic ventilation, an energy-efficiency metal roof lowers lifetime energy bills while making your home more comfortable across all seasons.
Is a metal roof better for the environment than asphalt?
Significantly better—Interlock aluminum is approximately 95% recyclable at the end of its lifespan, whereas asphalt shingles end up in landfills by the millions of tons annually. Each time Oak Park homeowners replace asphalt (every 15–25 years), they generate disposal waste and carbon emissions from new manufacturing; Interlock's longevity eliminates this cycle. The aluminum can be melted and reformed infinitely without quality loss, closing the loop from building to recycling center. Since 1998, Interlock's Delta, BC factory has supported this circular economy while serving homes from coastal salt-air environments to an Antarctic research station—proven sustainability backed by real manufacturing and real durability, not marketing claims.
