Interlock® Aluminum Roofing — all-climates performance specs for Hopkinton, New Hampshire
| Spec / Rating | Climate / Risk Factor + What It Solves |
|---|---|
| Wind resistance: 120+ mph (193+ kph) | Extreme wind, hurricanes, storm uplift: full interlocking attachment helps prevent blow-offs, edge lifting, and panel loss in high-gust events. |
| Fire rating: Class A (with proper assembly) | Wildfire, embers, radiant heat, chimney sparks: non-combustible roof assembly provides the highest residential fire protection rating. |
| Hail resistance: UL 2218 Class 4 | Hail and impact debris: highest impact classification; resists cracking, splitting, and surface loss common with asphalt under hail strikes. |
| Snow & ice performance: interlocking, shedding profile | Heavy snow, freeze-thaw, ice dams: smooth aluminum sheds snow efficiently and the interlocking design helps block water intrusion when melt-refreeze cycles occur. (Final snow-load capacity depends on roof structure and local code.) |
| Corrosion resistance: aluminum (won’t rust) | Salt air, coastal humidity, wet climates: aluminum naturally resists rust and corrosion, reducing long-term failure risk in marine or high-moisture environments. |
| Heat / UV durability: baked-on coating system | High heat, intense sun, thermal cycling: coatings resist UV breakdown and temperature-swing fatigue, slowing fading and surface degradation. |
| Moss / algae resistance: smooth coated surface | Wet shade, organic growth: low-porosity metal surface gives moss/algae less to grip, reducing staining and maintenance. |
| Material: heavy-gauge aluminum roof profiles (Slate / Shake / Shingle / Tile / Standing Seam) | All-season structural stability: lightweight, dent-resistant metal system stays stable through large hot-cold swings and severe weather. |
| Expected lifespan: 50+ years | Long-term durability across climates: avoids re-roof cycles typical of shorter-life materials, even in high-stress environments. |
| Warranty: Lifetime-Limited, non-prorated + 50-year transferable | Lifetime protection + resale value: guarantees long-term material confidence and transfers to future owners. |

What our customers are saying:
We really did appreciate the information that Mark gave us and he was professional.
Thank you for visiting and providing quotations and homes we can view with the Interlock Roofing system installed
They got us scheduled earlier than expected, which was great. They did the entire roof in a day and a half, and they cleaned up after themselves, they worked fast, were very nice, and I highly recommend them to anyone. They could have improved with my understanding of the expectations throughout the project; it could have been better explained. they were great scheduled early, squeaky clean when they left.
It was a great experience.
The only real problem we had was in trying to communicate with the crew. It seemed as if with the bulk of them English was not their strong language.
It is very hard to be on the roof on a hot summer day. I felt sorry for the guys that were up there. I felt for them. It is very hot and it is a rough job. I don't know if they could improve that for their employees. We only had one problem with one of the skylights not opening but they fixed that immediately. I called on a Tuesday and they were here Thursday. I have given several people information about the company. We are so happy with the roof.
I think that Interlock Roofing could use people who speak a little more English. We had a problem with communication at times. The foreman was good but if he wasn't right there then we had a little problem with understanding the workers on the installation crew.
I never had a roof replaced before, but I am very happy with it. They did an excellent job.
I have passed along Dave Harrison's card. Would warn about possible time frame issues and the mess. Also I would liked to have seen a more clearly written contract (what's with the exclamation points, Dave?) but as a retired real estate broker maybe I'm being too picky. Apparently the roofer couldn't understand it either (or didn't read it) when I had to show him where it indicted "no ridge vent on the main house" which he was about to do. Communication as to the start date of our project and knowing when the workers were going to be here so we could plan our day. They would miss work here on beautiful days and then arrive at 11:45 a.m. on a Sunday morning. Not working on a rainy day is expected but it would have been nice if they (and not me) had picked up the tools that were left scattered around the lawn. Not getting a timely response to our ridge vent problem is an ongoing worry. It has been over a month since I contacted Dave Harrison and still we have had no word from Interlock. This project was a nightmare but we do like the look of the product and only hope that it was well installed. I had asked Dave Harrison for an estimate on another of our homes next door to my sister's re-roofing project on Gould Road, Warner. He never got back to me. I'm not sure my blood pressure could stand this again anyway.
Our first Interlock roofing project was a great success which led us to use them again. Unfortunately, the second project did not go as smoothly and we are definitely not as pleased with the process this time.

Metal Roofing FAQs for Homeowners in Hopkinton
The following metal roofing FAQs are designed specifically for homeowners in Hopkinton, New Hampshire. Whether you are building a new home or replacing an existing roof, understanding how roofing materials perform in local weather conditions is essential. From wind and storm protection to fire resistance, hail impact, snow loads, and coastal moisture exposure, Interlock’s Lifetime Aluminum Roofing System is engineered to provide long-term durability, energy efficiency, and peace of mind in Hopkinton.
Does metal roofing handle heavy snow like Hopkinton gets?
Yes—Interlock's four-way interlocking aluminum panels are engineered to shed snow safely without ice dam formation, which matters in a region that averages 117 cm of snow annually. The lightweight design (the Shingle profile installs at 0.41 lb/sq ft) means snow load never stresses your structure, and because aluminum doesn't absorb heat, it won't create the freeze-thaw cycle that weakens asphalt. With about 98 freeze-thaw days per year here, that durability translates directly to a roof that performs for decades without the seasonal expansion-contraction damage that ages shingles fast.
Why does freeze-thaw weather in New Hampshire ruin some roofs faster than others?
Asphalt and wood absorb moisture into their material matrix; when temperature swings below freezing—which Hopkinton experiences roughly 98 days yearly—that water expands and cracks the substrate from inside out. Aluminum's oxide layer is impermeable and self-healing when scratched, so water never penetrates the material itself. Combined with Alunar 70% PVDF fluorocarbon coating (warranted 30 years against degradation under ASTM D4214 / D2244 testing standards), an Interlock roof simply doesn't suffer the creep-and-fail cycle that ice-thaw creates in traditional materials over this city's particular climate.
Can an aluminum roof rust or corrode in New Hampshire's wet climate?
Aluminum cannot rust because it contains no iron—the element that oxidizes and weakens. Instead, aluminum develops a microscopically thin oxide layer that seals the surface and automatically heals itself when scratched. In Hopkinton's moisture-rich environment with about 1007 mm of annual rainfall, this means zero rust staining, zero structural weakening, and zero costly repairs that plague steel roofs. The Alunar coating (applied to both sides of every panel) adds another 30-year protective layer, making corrosion a non-issue even after decades of wet New England weather.
How well do metal roofs hold up in Hopkinton's wind gusts?
Interlock panels are warranted to resist sustained winds of 120 mph and maintain integrity through gusts well beyond that specification. Hopkinton's typical gusts reach around 107 km/h (67 mph), so you're operating well within the envelope of proof-tested performance. The four-way interlocking system locks each panel to its neighbors on all edges, eliminating the uplift vulnerability that affects single-fastened shingles. That engineering approach—combined with ICC-ES ESR-1790 code certification—means your roof won't shift, lift, or degrade from the seasonal wind stress that accumulates on asphalt over 20–30 years.
Do metal roofs get damaged by hail, and does that affect insurance?
Interlock aluminum panels carry a UL 2218 Class 4 impact rating—the highest available—and the Guardian Warranty even covers perforation from hailstones up to 1.5 inches. That durability often qualifies owners for homeowners insurance discounts because the roof simply doesn't fail under impact stress. In a region where spring severe weather can include hail, that's a tangible financial advantage: your insurer recognizes that a Class 4-rated roof won't file claims, so your premiums may drop. Over the 30+ years you own the home, those saved premiums alone can offset installation costs.
Do I need to reinforce my house before installing a metal roof?
No structural reinforcement is needed. Interlock's Mediterranean Tile profile—which replicates the look of heavy clay or concrete tile—installs at about 0.59 lb/sq ft, making it roughly 96% lighter than real tile. That means you can install it directly over your existing roof, eliminating the cost and disruption of tear-off and new sheathing. For homes with aging framing or modest roof structure, this lightweight approach is a practical advantage. Hopkinton builders and contractors simply mount the panels to existing substrate and move forward—no engineer reports, no structural work, no delay.
What's the real lifespan and warranty on a metal roof in New Hampshire?
The Guardian Warranty provides a non-prorated lifetime limited material warranty to the original owner, covering rusting, rotting, splitting, cracking, curling, and loss of impact resistance. That transfers one time to the next owner, who receives 50 years of coverage from completion date. In practical terms, you're buying the last roof you'll install; the aluminum substrate won't degrade over 50+ years, and the Alunar coating carries its own 30-year fade guarantee. Given Hopkinton's 98 annual freeze-thaw cycles and 117 cm of snow, this durability directly offsets the seasonal stress that shortens asphalt roofs to 15–20 years here.
Can a metal roof actually reduce my cooling costs?
Yes. energy-efficient Interlock colors achieve thermal emissivity of 0.84 and solar reflectance up to 0.55 (Aged Copper Penny and other cool-rated profiles), meaning they reflect heat that dark asphalt absorbs and radiates into your attic. In a region with about 3018 annual sunshine hours, that reflectance compounds into measurable cooling savings, especially during spring and early fall when temperatures swing between 50–70°F. The Cool Roof Rating Council rating quantifies this advantage, so you can cross-reference actual energy modeling. Over 30+ years, reflected heat equals lower AC demand, lower utility bills, and lower carbon footprint.
How much upkeep does a metal roof really need?
Interlock aluminum roofs are CALGreen-verified for reduced maintenance, which means they don't require the gutter cleaning, algae treatment, moss removal, or seasonal shingle replacement that asphalt and wood demand. Rain (averaging 1007 mm yearly in Hopkinton) naturally cleans the Alunar finish; snow sheds cleanly without ice-dam buildup; and the coating resists UV breakdown and chalk (30-year ASTM D4214 warranty), so there's no gradual surface degradation to repair. Over a 30-year ownership, you save months of labor and hundreds of dollars in maintenance calls compared to traditional roofing.
