Review: April 21, 2004 Completion: December 2, 2003

There is no doubt about it. Our new blue Interlock Roof is exceptional, and the house looks absolutely great. We certainly were very pleased with your installers. Their professional workmanship and the efficiency with which they performed and completed the job were outstanding. They always took the time to remove the excess debris from around the house when they finished the day. It’s very refreshing to know that there are still companies that care enough to do the job right. As we are on a very busy road, we get to see people doing “double takes” to look at our roof. In fact, we gave a brochure to someone up the road from us, and you have since installed a new roof for that person. The overall effect is an excellent advertisement for Interlock! Thank you again for all your efforts; we are so very pleased.

Review: September 30, 2013 Completion: August 25, 2013

We chose Interlock to install a much needed new roof on our 200-year-old farmhouse in Warner, New Hampshire which serves as our year-round vacation getaway. From the moment David showed up to meet with us through the final completion of the project a few weeks ago, we knew that we had made the right decision and that our project was in good hands. We never once felt pressured even though we took longer than expected to complete some preliminary repairs to a porch roof before the project could begin. When we did finally call to say that we had completed our work and were ready to go, they had a work crew on site in less than a week! More amazing is that they completed their work of stripping the old asphalt, installing a plywood deck, and re-roofing a large old house where nothing is truly square in five days and, other than the evidence of a brand new gray slate roof on our house, one would never know that anyone had even been there. The crew left our property cleaner than it was before they arrived. They even cleaned up a pile of roofing debris we had left behind following our re-roofing project. Throughout the project, David and Jennifer, in the office, were always available to answer our questions. From selecting the right roof to arranging to finance, to completing the project in a timely fashion, we could not be happier with the total interlock experience. We are highly satisfied with the result and are already looking forward to having Interlock install a new roof on our adjoining barn in the near future.

Metal Roofing FAQs for Homeowners in Penacook

The following metal roofing FAQs are designed specifically for homeowners in Penacook, New Hampshire. Whether you are building a new home or replacing an existing roof, understanding how roofing materials perform in local weather conditions is essential. From wind and storm protection to fire resistance, hail impact, snow loads, and coastal moisture exposure, Interlock’s Lifetime Aluminum Roofing System is engineered to provide long-term durability, energy efficiency, and peace of mind in Penacook.

How does a metal roof handle Penacook's heavy snow and ice buildup?

Metal roofs shed snow and ice better than asphalt because the smooth, hard surface resists bonding and allows slides without the granule damage that weakens shingles. Penacook averages about 148 cm of snow annually, and freeze-thaw cycles happen roughly 100 times per year here—conditions that degrade asphalt quickly. Interlock's four-way interlocking panels stay watertight even when snow melts and refreezes, and the lightweight design (the Shingle profile at 0.41 lb/sq ft) means no structural reinforcement is needed despite heavy seasonal accumulation. Snow guards can be added if you want to manage slides.

Will freeze-thaw cycles damage my metal roof over time?

No—freeze-thaw cycling is exactly where aluminum roofing excels. Your area experiences roughly 100 freeze-thaw days yearly, and the 3105-H24 aluminum alloy expands and contracts predictably without cracking, curling, or splitting like asphalt, wood, or concrete tiles do. The material contains no iron, so the oxide layer that forms naturally self-heals when scratched, preventing corrosion from repeated moisture exposure. Interlock's Alunar 70% PVDF coating, warranted 30 years against chalking and fading (ASTM D4214), resists degradation from UV damage that worsens freeze-thaw stress on conventional roofs.

Can an aluminum roof rust in New Hampshire's wet climate?

Aluminum cannot rust because it contains no iron—the chemical element that oxidizes and corrodes. Penacook receives about 941 mm of rain yearly plus 148 cm of snow, so moisture exposure is constant, but aluminum's natural oxide layer actually protects the metal underneath and self-heals when scratched. Steel roofing needs paint or coatings to prevent rust; aluminum doesn't. The Alunar fluorocarbon finish on both sides of each panel adds another 30-year protection layer, and Interlock installs panels in coastal salt-air environments and Antarctic research stations where moisture and corrosion risk is far higher than inland New Hampshire.

Will my metal roof blow off in New Hampshire's spring and fall storms?

No—Interlock's four-way interlocking panels are warranted to resist wind speeds up to 120 mph when installed to specification, and Penacook's typical gusts reach about 110 km/h (68 mph), well below that threshold. The four-way interlock locks each panel on all sides, so uplift forces can't separate them. The panels are also extraordinarily light—the Shingle at 0.41 lb/sq ft and Shake at 0.58 lb/sq ft—which means less dead load pulling downward but more resistance to wind shear because fasteners aren't fighting heavy weight. Winter storms and nor'easters in your region fall within the warranty coverage.

Does a metal roof dent in hailstorms, and will it affect my insurance?

Interlock's aluminum panels hold a UL 2218 Class 4 impact rating—the highest available—and the Guardian warranty even covers perforation from hailstones up to 1.5 inches. Most hail in New Hampshire doesn't reach that size, so denting is uncommon. When hail does strike, aluminum's hardness resists deformation better than asphalt or wood, and the Class 4 rating often qualifies homeowners for insurance discounts or credits because repair and replacement claims are rare. The four-way interlock also means that even if impact occurs, water can't penetrate the seams like it can on traditional shingles.

Do I need to reinforce my house frame for a metal roof?

Almost never. Interlock's aluminum panels are extraordinarily light—the Mediterranean Tile profile, which replicates the look of heavy concrete or clay tile, is about 96% lighter than the real thing at 0.59 lb/sq ft. Because the material weighs so little, it installs directly over most existing roofs without structural work, and new construction rarely requires extra framing. For comparison, traditional clay tile weighs 12–15 lb/sq ft and often demands costly reinforcement. Penacook's 148 cm annual snowfall adds weight, but the live-load rating of a typical residential frame easily absorbs both the roof and snow together at these thicknesses.

How does a metal roof protect against Penacook's 941 mm of annual rainfall?

Four-way interlocking panels are the key—each panel locks on all four sides, so water cannot find a seam to penetrate like it does on shingle roofs, which lap only front and back. Your area averages 941 mm of rain per year, and metal roofs with proper installation and solid deck underlayment shed that water without pooling or backing up. The ICC-ES ESR-1790 evaluation confirms that Interlock panels meet IBC/IRC water-intrusion standards. The Guardian lifetime limited warranty covers leaks from defects in materials or workmanship, and the transferable 50-year term means the next owner has confidence too.

How much maintenance does a metal roof need compared to asphalt shingles?

Metal roofs need almost no maintenance—no granule loss like asphalt, no algae or moss treatment, no seasonal inspections for curling or splits. Asphalt shingles in Penacook's climate of roughly 100 freeze-thaw days per year degrade rapidly because ice and thaw cycles loosen granules and crack the sealant; aluminum doesn't crack or curl. Debris removal and gutter cleaning are the same on any roof, but you're never replacing flashing, resealing seams, or patching leaks. Interlock's CALGreen-verified design is engineered for reduced maintenance, so your roof stays reliable without the costs that eat into asphalt's apparent savings.

Is a metal roof worth the higher upfront cost in New Hampshire?

Metal roofing costs more upfront—typically 2–3 times an asphalt roof—but is cheaper over the building's life. Asphalt lasts 15–20 years in Penacook's freeze-thaw environment; Interlock's Guardian warranty is lifetime limited for the original owner (one-time transferable to the next owner for 50 years from completion) and covers all damage from freeze, thaw, hail, wind, and weathering. By year 25 you've replaced asphalt twice and paid to dispose of 20+ tons of landfill waste; metal is still on your house. Factor in no maintenance costs, potential insurance discounts from the UL 2218 Class 4 hail rating, and energy-efficiency savings if you choose a reflective color, and the total cost of ownership favors metal by thousands of dollars over 40 years.

Will a reflective metal roof actually lower my cooling costs in summer?

Yes, if you choose an energy-efficient color. Interlock offers energy-efficiency profiles with thermal emissivity up to 0.84 and solar reflectance as high as 0.55 (Aged Copper Penny), meaning the roof reflects heat that asphalt absorbs and re-radiates into your home. Penacook receives about 3017 sunshine hours per year, so even partial cooling savings compound. A reflective roof reduces attic and interior temperatures, cutting air-conditioning runtime and demand charges. Cool Roof Rating Council ratings confirm the science. Summer cooling isn't the focus in your cold climate, but the same reflective properties that reduce summer heat also bounce back the UV radiation that causes the freeze-thaw and oxidation damage asphalt faces during Penacook's roughly 100 freeze-thaw cycles annually.
