Interlock® Aluminum Roofing — all-climates performance specs for Dunthorpe, Oregon
| Spec / Rating | Climate / Risk Factor + What It Solves |
|---|---|
| Wind resistance: 120+ mph (193+ kph) | Extreme wind, hurricanes, storm uplift: full interlocking attachment helps prevent blow-offs, edge lifting, and panel loss in high-gust events. |
| Fire rating: Class A (with proper assembly) | Wildfire, embers, radiant heat, chimney sparks: non-combustible roof assembly provides the highest residential fire protection rating. |
| Hail resistance: UL 2218 Class 4 | Hail and impact debris: highest impact classification; resists cracking, splitting, and surface loss common with asphalt under hail strikes. |
| Snow & ice performance: interlocking, shedding profile | Heavy snow, freeze-thaw, ice dams: smooth aluminum sheds snow efficiently and the interlocking design helps block water intrusion when melt-refreeze cycles occur. (Final snow-load capacity depends on roof structure and local code.) |
| Corrosion resistance: aluminum (won’t rust) | Salt air, coastal humidity, wet climates: aluminum naturally resists rust and corrosion, reducing long-term failure risk in marine or high-moisture environments. |
| Heat / UV durability: baked-on coating system | High heat, intense sun, thermal cycling: coatings resist UV breakdown and temperature-swing fatigue, slowing fading and surface degradation. |
| Moss / algae resistance: smooth coated surface | Wet shade, organic growth: low-porosity metal surface gives moss/algae less to grip, reducing staining and maintenance. |
| Material: heavy-gauge aluminum roof profiles (Slate / Shake / Shingle / Tile / Standing Seam) | All-season structural stability: lightweight, dent-resistant metal system stays stable through large hot-cold swings and severe weather. |
| Expected lifespan: 50+ years | Long-term durability across climates: avoids re-roof cycles typical of shorter-life materials, even in high-stress environments. |
| Warranty: Lifetime-Limited, non-prorated + 50-year transferable | Lifetime protection + resale value: guarantees long-term material confidence and transfers to future owners. |

What our customers are saying:
I love my Interlock roof! No more climbing up to clean it, and no more gritty debris falling into my garden after a few years. It looks fantastic and performs exactly as it should. The installers were excellent—knowledgeable, detail-oriented, and personable. Ivan is a gem! He handled a small flashing addition efficiently and cleaned the entire roof with a blower in no time. After almost ten years, it’s still the only roof I would choose.
We’ve had our roof for about 7 years and have been very pleased with it. Recently, I scheduled gutter cleaning which was complicated by a run of wet weather which makes the roof very slippery. The gutter contractor asked if we had ever considered installing safety anchors. I didn’t know there was such a thing. I called Interlock and Ivan came by to take a look. He quickly determined appropriate locations for the anchors that the gutter cleaners could clip their safety harnesses to and showed me an example of the anchor itself. He also offered to paint them black to make them more inconspicuous on our dark roof. He returned about a week later for the install and afterwards showed us pictures of the anchors from the roof and pointed them out from the ground. Overall very professional, prompt, excellent service.
Ivan and I have had many visits over the last 10 years we have had our Interlock roof. He is a rare find. Both knowledgeable and conscientious. My interactions with Ivan and call taker May have been top notch as is Interlock's warranty.
Ivan with Interlock Metal Roofing is awesome. Always personable and willing to find and fix the problems. Roofs are going to have leaks and with Interlock I just call when I have an issue and Ivan fixes it. THANK YOU!
Ivan has worked on our roof multiple times. He is always responsive, communicative, efficient, and effective. We can recommend him and Interlock Roofing
Fast response and excellent work. The technician drop by within couple of days, found the cause, and provided quote. The price was reasonable for the work scope. They were able to secure the work slot as soon as the raining season was over and kept me informed on the schedule. In addition, they inspected remaining roof as well. Note: the leak was due to gutter pulling the corner flashing. The 10+ year Interlock roof tile remained good.
It was time to replace the old mossy asphalt shingles. Standing seam metal in dark Hunter Green was the way to go. Love it! Demo and install team were friendly really excellent at their jobs.
I’ve had an interlock metal roof on my home for 20 years. We have always been happy with the roof. People are always surprised to find out the roof is metal.
Prompt, ongoing communication from bid to follow up after completion. Install crew was professional and polite. We had an involved tear-off and they spread tarps overnight in case of dew. Finished job looks great.

Metal Roofing FAQs for Homeowners in Dunthorpe
The following metal roofing FAQs are designed specifically for homeowners in Dunthorpe, Oregon. Whether you are building a new home or replacing an existing roof, understanding how roofing materials perform in local weather conditions is essential. From wind and storm protection to fire resistance, hail impact, snow loads, and coastal moisture exposure, Interlock’s Lifetime Aluminum Roofing System is engineered to provide long-term durability, energy efficiency, and peace of mind in Dunthorpe.
Does metal roofing handle Dunthorpe's snow and ice buildup?
Yes—Interlock's four-way interlocking panels and smooth profiles shed snow efficiently, reducing ice dam risk in your area's climate of about 48 cm annual snow and 36 freeze-thaw cycles. The lightweight aluminum (Shake profile at 0.58 lb/sq ft) won't strain your structure under snow load, and the panels' thermal conductivity helps prevent the cold spots where ice dams form. Optional snow guards can be installed where desired for safety.
Will a metal roof leak during Dunthorpe's heavy rainfall?
No. Interlock panels are engineered with four-way interlocking seams that channel water off your roof—critical in a region averaging 1468 mm of rain annually. The seams overlap on all four sides, preventing water infiltration from any direction. When installed to spec over solid decking and underlayment, the system is watertight and complies with ICC-ES ESR-1790 for Oregon's IBC/IRC code requirements.
Why won't my aluminum metal roof rust like a steel roof?
Aluminum cannot rust because it contains no iron—the metal forms a self-healing oxide layer that protects it from saltwater, moisture, and Dunthorpe's 1468 mm annual rainfall. Even if the coating scratches, the aluminum substrate itself is immune to rust and rot, unlike steel roofs or wood shakes. This makes it ideal for wet Pacific Northwest climates where traditional materials degrade over decades.
Can hail damage my metal roof or help lower insurance premiums?
Interlock achieves UL 2218 Class 4—the highest hail impact rating—and the Guardian Warranty even covers perforation from hailstones up to 1.5 inches. This robust durability may qualify you for homeowners insurance discounts on comprehensive or extended coverage. Many insurers recognize metal roofing's resistance to the hail and wind gusts (up to 116 km/h in your area) that damage asphalt shingles, so contact your agent for potential savings.
Is my metal roof strong enough for Dunthorpe's wind gusts?
Absolutely. Interlock's four-way interlocking aluminum panels are warranted to resist wind speeds up to 120 mph (193 km/h)—well above Dunthorpe's typical gusts of 116 km/h. The overlapping seams on all four sides lock the panels together so wind cannot lift or separate them. This design, verified under ICC-ES ESR-1790, makes metal roofing far more reliable than asphalt in the Pacific Northwest's storm season.
How long will an Interlock metal roof last, and what's covered?
The Guardian Warranty is a lifetime limited, non-prorated material warranty for the original owner—covering rust, rot, splitting, cracking, curling, and loss of impact resistance. It's transferable once to the next owner for 50 years from completion, a major advantage if you sell. Combined with the 30-year coating warranty (Alunar PVDF fluorocarbon on both sides), your roof will outlive multiple asphalt replacements and retain value across ownership changes.
Do I need to reinforce my house for a metal roof's weight?
No structural reinforcement is needed. Interlock's Mediterranean Tile profile weighs only 0.59 lb/sq ft—about 96% lighter than concrete or clay tile—so it installs over most existing roofs without additional framing. Even the heavier Shake profile at 0.58 lb/sq ft is negligible compared to traditional materials. This means lower installation costs and the ability to retrofit older homes in Dunthorpe without expensive structural work.
How much maintenance does a metal roof really need?
Virtually none beyond occasional gutter cleaning. Unlike asphalt shingles (which crack and curl), wood shakes (which rot and split in Dunthorpe's 1468 mm annual rainfall), or tile (which chips and stains), aluminum roofing with Alunar PVDF coating resists fading, chalking, and weathering. The CALGreen-verified design eliminates the tear-offs, re-nailing, and sealant reapplication that consume time and money. You'll spend far less on upkeep over the roof's life.
Will a metal roof keep my home cooler and lower energy costs?
energy-efficient Interlock colors reflect solar heat efficiently, with thermal emissivity of 0.84 and initial solar reflectance up to 0.55 (Aged Copper Penny). This reflective quality works even in Dunthorpe's moderate climate (2957 sunshine hours annually, mean 11.5°C)—reducing cooling load in summer and easing HVAC strain year-round. The Cool Roof Rating Council rating confirms the coating's durability, maintaining reflectance over 30 years.
Is aluminum roofing actually better for the environment?
Yes. Interlock aluminum is approximately 95% recyclable at end-of-life, breaking the asphalt tear-off-to-landfill cycle that affects hundreds of roofs in Oregon annually. Manufactured in Delta, BC since 1998, the panels ship lighter than tile or slate, reducing transport emissions. By lasting 50+ years and eliminating frequent replacements, metal roofing cuts the embodied carbon and waste of traditional materials over your home's life.
Is a metal roof a good choice for Dunthorpe’s climate?
Yes. Dunthorpe averages about 48 cm of snow, 1468 mm of rain, roughly 36 freeze–thaw days a year, with peak wind gusts near 116 km/h. Interlock® aluminum roofing is wind-rated to 193+ km/h (120 mph), UL 2218 Class 4 impact-rated and Class A fire-rated, and its four-way interlocking panels shed snow and resist ice dams and freeze–thaw cracking — all backed by a lifetime limited, transferable warranty.
