Interlock® Aluminum Roofing — all-climates performance specs for Marion, Oregon
| Spec / Rating | Climate / Risk Factor + What It Solves |
|---|---|
| Wind resistance: 120+ mph (193+ kph) | Extreme wind, hurricanes, storm uplift: full interlocking attachment helps prevent blow-offs, edge lifting, and panel loss in high-gust events. |
| Fire rating: Class A (with proper assembly) | Wildfire, embers, radiant heat, chimney sparks: non-combustible roof assembly provides the highest residential fire protection rating. |
| Hail resistance: UL 2218 Class 4 | Hail and impact debris: highest impact classification; resists cracking, splitting, and surface loss common with asphalt under hail strikes. |
| Snow & ice performance: interlocking, shedding profile | Heavy snow, freeze-thaw, ice dams: smooth aluminum sheds snow efficiently and the interlocking design helps block water intrusion when melt-refreeze cycles occur. (Final snow-load capacity depends on roof structure and local code.) |
| Corrosion resistance: aluminum (won’t rust) | Salt air, coastal humidity, wet climates: aluminum naturally resists rust and corrosion, reducing long-term failure risk in marine or high-moisture environments. |
| Heat / UV durability: baked-on coating system | High heat, intense sun, thermal cycling: coatings resist UV breakdown and temperature-swing fatigue, slowing fading and surface degradation. |
| Moss / algae resistance: smooth coated surface | Wet shade, organic growth: low-porosity metal surface gives moss/algae less to grip, reducing staining and maintenance. |
| Material: heavy-gauge aluminum roof profiles (Slate / Shake / Shingle / Tile / Standing Seam) | All-season structural stability: lightweight, dent-resistant metal system stays stable through large hot-cold swings and severe weather. |
| Expected lifespan: 50+ years | Long-term durability across climates: avoids re-roof cycles typical of shorter-life materials, even in high-stress environments. |
| Warranty: Lifetime-Limited, non-prorated + 50-year transferable | Lifetime protection + resale value: guarantees long-term material confidence and transfers to future owners. |

What our customers are saying:
Thank You So Much!! The roof that you installed looks so wonderful! I had my doubts as the “typical” aluminum roof looks too barn-like. With the Interlock roof, we got the look I wanted and the durability my husband was looking for. We were very pleased with the installation as it took only a few days, and our yard was neat and clean when completed. This roof is one of the best investments and improvements we have made for our home. We highly recommend the Interlock Aluminum Roof Shakes for anyone interested in investing in their home.
Ross and Mike are very knowledgeable. Both were very helpful and informative. Great staff and looks like a wonderful product!!
Very pleased with Ivan's work from Interlock at our home!
Jared form Interlock was great. Very detail oriented and thorough explaining all the types of roofing offered and providing us with a comprehensive estimate. If looking for a new roof. Dont hesitate, give them a call.
We are extremely pleased with the quality, appearance and fast installation of our new Interlock roof. The crew did awesome work and were friendly and careful. We feel so much safer with the protection of our metal roof on our home, which is surrounded by beautiful fir trees.
I had a "slate style" metal roof installed by Interlock Roofing and these guys are great! They were so polite and fast, they got my whole roof done in just two days and cleaned up the site perfectly. I would highly recommend them. Positive, Professionalism, Services: Roof installation
Update on my Interlock Roof System. I encourage you to read all of this review, because it has a very important element to it, and it might surprise you.I had the roof installed 2 years ago, & as noted in my original review below, the subcontractor at that time was less than attentive. Turns out, his crew was, too. In late 2020, there was a pretty significant leak into the kitchen from the sola tube, which prompted a repair call. The responses from customer service were a bit iffy, but Ivan (super knowledgeable guy) came out to inspect the leaks. At that time he also investigated the leaking behind the gutters & facia boards that had been happening right from the beginning. Apparently there was excessive condensation happening above and below the waterproofing, & it was a mystery why that was happening. It took two attempts to fix the leak into the kitchen, & a few more inspections to investigate the failing roof. There several visits and emails, & finally, in early 2021, I found it necessary to formally executed a warranty claim on the roof to HQ in Canada. I expected resistance. Here is the great part. Not only did Interlock Roofing take my warranty claim seriously, having Ivan come back yet again & open up a portion of the roof to inspect further; Mr. Yvon Giroux, VP of Installation in Canada, decided to have his best crew come out & completely tear off not only the Interlock Roof, but the asphalt roof underneath it as well, & start from absolute scratch. A fully new installation. To no one's surprise, they found mistakes were done by the first subcontracting crew (who didn't work for Interlock very long that year). I can tell you, the crew that came out last week were top notch. I haven't seen that amount of dedicated hard work in a very long time. It was obvious right from the start this crew was knowledgeable & well polished.I am so impressed with the Interlock Roofing System, the Company, and their integrity! The tear off, any repairs, & full installation was done in 2 days. Right after, we had several days of heavy rain. Not. One. Drip. Anywhere. The roof is even more attractive and beautiful than before. Interlock earned every one of their 5 stars. The roof is amazing, and I am one very satisfied customer.\*\*Original Review\*\*The roof is amazing. It looks great and the neighbors compliment it all the time. Big bonus is I have hardly used my air conditioning at all this year. What Interlock told me appears to be pretty spot on as far as the roof keeping the house cooler during hot weather. And finally, I really enjoy not having to get up on the roof several times a year to maintain it, knowing it is going to outlast me.The company was very gentle with us when we asked to postpone our fall scheduled installation for a few months due to a series of deaths, and as soon as weather permitted in the spring, we had the roof installed. The only thing that I was not thrilled about was when the installers arrived, I found out they were not employed by Interlock, as we were led to believe when we signed the contract last year. Quite honestly, had I known the installation was sub-contracted out, it would have been a deal breaker and I wouldn't have signed the contract. The sub-contractor was often busy with his other business needs and wasn't always on site during the installation. I understand his crew might only work on Interlock installations, but the owner of the contracting business was not solely dedicated to Interlock. He was a really nice guy, but not super attentive to my questions or concerns, which came back to haunt him later. I had requested a customer service follow-up after the installation that took a couple of months to have my concerned addressed fully. The reason for 4 stars instead of 5 was the sub-contractor instead of employees for the install, and the fact the customer service response was pretty slow. In the end, Interlock made good on everything. I still recommend them as a company, and I definitely recommend the roof. Services: Roof inspection, Roof installation, Roof repair
Looks great, unlike the common metal roofs you see.And being aluminum it won't rust out. Recently we had freezing rain which caused some tree limbs to break off and fall from a tree close to our house which demolished one gutter and part of another one, also partially smashing a roof vent ; but the metal roof held up supprisingly well. We also had a forest fire this past summer before putting this roof on that came close.A metal roof is just a little more deterent you can add against such events.5 stars. Damon, the installers, and everyone at interlock were wonderful and easy to work with. THANKS . Positive, Responsiveness, Punctuality, Quality, Professionalism, Value, Services: Roof installation
We had our roof replaced about 1.5 years ago with Interlock and the experience was amazing. They were easy to schedule, matched their estimate to the cent, helped us find a great financing company, and were ahead of schedule. The whole process from meeting & picking from a great selection to watching them tear down layers of shingles and apply a seamless roof was impressively efficient. It still looks amazing, and we’ve had no problems. I’d highly recommend them & their products. Our house is a ton lighter, easier to maintain and is more efficient to heat & cool. Great product, great selection, and great company overall. Positive Responsiveness, Punctuality, Quality, Value
Excellent product and insulation was also excellent. I would recommend this product as the last roof your house will ever need. The fir needles wash off with a good rain and the slate roof looks just like slate. AAA+++
We had a metal roof already, but we wanted a nicer looking metal roof that didn’t stand out in the neighborhood. After seeing the Interlock Lifetime Roofing Systems at the Home Improvement Show, we set up an appointment. I had already checked them out on their website, so it wasn’t whether or not we were going to do the roof, rather what style and color did we want. Interlock kept us up to date on when they would be out here. The installers arrived in December 2016 and in two days we had a new roof. They were the most polite workers that we have ever had at the house. They showed us the material they that lay down before the roof goes on it was a very thick underlayment. No wonder our house is 5 degrees warmer and the heater doesn’t come on as much as it did before. They did an excellent job of clean up. You could not even tell that we had anything done outside. A few weeks after the roof was installed Glenn Boss and his boss showed up in person to make sure that everything was right and see if we had any questions. You do not see this level of service anywhere. This year here in the Pacific Northwest we have gotten a record amount of rain. With our old metal roof, it would have been really loud, but with the Interlock Roofing System, we can barely hear it. The only way that we knew it is raining is if we hear it hit the windows or we look outside and see it coming down. We just love our new roof! The house looks so much nicer than it did before with our other metal roof. And we are really enjoying how much warmer our home is now.
No more climbing around on the roof! In the NW any roof is going to grow moss; except a metal roof. I tried zinc strips, moss killer, laundry soap, and I went up on my steep roof once or twice a year with a steel brush and a pressure washer, but it was a never-ending battle, and I wanted to retire! One neighbor’s new roof started growing moss after two years. Another neighbor pays to have his cleaned and treated every year. Now I can look back at the problem and smile. Also, leaves and snow just slide off, and squirrels and raccoons can’t damage it. The ridge vent system is pretty cool too. All the representatives from Interlock Roofs were impressive! The salesman was helpful, the area supervisor was amazing, and the installation crew battled with snow and ice to get the roof done with hardly a trace after the clean up (there were some small asphalt pieces hidden under the snow). They also did an excellent job of prepping the edges for the new gutters and even installed the new solar tube cap and bathroom vent, so those jobs went smoothly. The weather conditions had an impact on the schedule, but the office staff stayed in touch, so we always knew what to expect. Some questions arose between the time we contracted the job and the start, and the supervisor was here within a couple of days to answer them all. Everyone we dealt with throughout the project was outstanding. I doubt we will have any issues with the roof, but there is a 50-year transferable " data-wpil-keyword-link="linked">warranty and a great team to back it up if any problems arise. Is a metal tile roof more expensive? Look at the balance sheet: one roof verses four or five, an increased property value, a beautiful self-cleaning roof, more time in your life, and peace of mind or at least one less thing to worry about.

Metal Roofing FAQs for Homeowners in Marion
The following metal roofing FAQs are designed specifically for homeowners in Marion, Oregon. Whether you are building a new home or replacing an existing roof, understanding how roofing materials perform in local weather conditions is essential. From wind and storm protection to fire resistance, hail impact, snow loads, and coastal moisture exposure, Interlock’s Lifetime Aluminum Roofing System is engineered to provide long-term durability, energy efficiency, and peace of mind in Marion.
Can I get a metal roof that looks like slate, cedar shake, or tile without the weight problems?
Yes — Interlock offers five profiles (Slate, Cedar Shingle, Shake, Standing Seam, Mediterranean Tile) that match traditional aesthetics in aluminum. The Tile profile, for example, weighs about 0.59 lb/sq ft and is roughly 96% lighter than real clay or concrete tile, so it installs over most existing structures without structural reinforcement. In Marion's 37 annual freeze-thaw cycles, the aluminum's oxide layer self-heals from expansion stress that would crack real tile or shake, keeping the finish intact through decades of weather.
Is a metal roof worth the upfront cost compared to asphalt shingles over 30 or 40 years?
Metal roofing eliminates the asphalt tear-off-and-replace cycle. Your lifetime limited warranty covers rusting, rotting, splitting, and cracking — the failures that drive repeated asphalt replacements. Marion receives about 1166 mm of rain and experiences 37 freeze-thaw days yearly, conditions that accelerate asphalt deterioration. Interlock's non-prorated material warranty for the original owner plus the one-time transferable 50-year term for the next owner means you buy one roof that outlasts two or three asphalt cycles. Current financing offers no payments and no interest until Spring 2027 or 10% off installation, lowering the entry cost.
What warranty comes with a metal roof, and how long does it really last?
The Guardian warranty is a lifetime limited non-prorated material warranty for the original owner — you never pay a deductible for covered failures like rusting, rotting, splitting, or impact loss of resistance. The warranty transfers once to the next owner for 50 years from completion, which protects resale value. Interlock has manufactured roofing since 1998 in Delta, BC, and installed panels on everything from coastal homes to Antarctic research stations, proving the aluminum and Alunar 70% PVDF coating (warranted 30 years against chalking) perform across extreme climates. Marion's 19 cm annual snow and gusts to 105 km/h are well within the design envelope.
Why can't aluminum roofing rust like steel does, and does that matter in Oregon?
Aluminum contains no iron — the element that oxidizes into rust. Instead, a thin oxide layer forms on pure aluminum and self-heals when scratched, protecting the metal underneath indefinitely. Interlock uses roofing-grade 3105-H24 and 3003-H24 aluminum alloy (ASTM B209) with Alunar 70% PVDF fluorocarbon finish applied to both sides, which adds 30-year durability against chalking and fading. Marion's 1166 mm annual rainfall and 37 freeze-thaw cycles create conditions where steel would pit and corrode; aluminum simply won't. The warranty covers rusting, period — because it won't happen.
Does a metal roof have good fire protection, and can it help with insurance?
Interlock aluminum roofing is non-combustible and achieves Class A fire classification (the highest rating). The ICC-ES evaluation report ESR-1790 (reissued 2025, governing IBC/IRC codes) confirms compliance, and CALGreen certification verifies reduced maintenance hazards. In Marion County, where wind gusts reach 105 km/h and brush conditions vary, a non-combustible roof eliminates one major fire-spread pathway. Some insurers recognize Class A roofing and offer premium discounts; contact your agent with the ESR-1790 designation. Aluminum's inherent non-combustibility, combined with its 120 mph wind warranty, provides dual protection against fire and weather-driven ember intrusion.
How much maintenance does a metal roof need, and is it really less than asphalt or tile?
Interlock metal roofing requires no annual coating renewal, resealing, or replacement of individual damaged shingles — eliminating the labor costs and safety risks of ladder work. Asphalt shingles in Marion's climate (1166 mm rain, 37 freeze-thaw days yearly) curl and crack within 15–20 years; traditional tile splits under freeze-thaw stress and requires individual piece replacement. Aluminum doesn't rot, crack, or curl. Periodic gutter cleaning and debris removal apply to any roof, but Interlock's solid four-way interlocking panels shed water and ice efficiently without the flashing leaks and granule loss that plague asphalt. CALGreen verification confirms reduced maintenance burden, lowering total ownership cost.
Will a metal roof add value when I sell my Marion home?
A metal roof signals durability and low long-term maintenance to buyers, especially in markets where asphalt replacement budgets dominate home inspections. Interlock's transferable warranty — non-prorated for the original owner, then 50 years for the next owner from completion — becomes a documented asset you can present to realtors and inspectors. The profiles (Slate, Cedar Shingle, Shake, Mediterranean Tile, Standing Seam) appeal across design preferences, from traditional to modern. Marion's 19 cm annual snow and 105 km/h wind gusts make storm-resistant construction a visible selling point. Buyers inherit a roof that won't need replacement for decades, reducing their out-of-pocket risk.
How long does installation take, and can a metal roof go over my old shingles?
Interlock panels install over most existing roofs — the lightweight aluminum (Shingle at 0.41 lb/sq ft, Shake at 0.58 lb/sq ft) doesn't require structural reinforcement even on older framing. Removal and haul-away of asphalt is optional, saving labor and keeping waste from the landfill. Installation timeline depends on roof size and weather; Marion's average of about 3152 sunshine hours annually and typical gusts around 16 km/h (with rare peaks to 105 km/h) mean most projects complete in 3–7 days under fair conditions. Interlock Metal Roofing (PNW) Inc. has served the region since 1997 and can walk you through site-specific timing. Current financing offers no payments and no interest until Spring 2027 to spread costs painlessly.
Is metal roofing more sustainable than asphalt, and can it be recycled?
Interlock aluminum roofing is approximately 95% recyclable at end of life — aluminum's value ensures scrap recovery and remelting into new products. Asphalt shingles, by contrast, tear off every 15–25 years and go to landfills by the ton; Marion's 1166 mm annual rainfall and 37 freeze-thaw days accelerate that cycle. An aluminum roof installed once eliminates decades of tear-off waste and truck hauling. The Alunar 70% PVDF coating resists chalking and fading for 30 years, extending the interval between cosmetic renewal. CALGreen verification confirms reduced maintenance and waste burden. Over a 50-year ownership span, the aluminum roof keeps material out of landfills while asphalt cycles repeat.
How well does a metal roof stand up to Marion's wind gusts?
Interlock's four-way interlocking aluminum panels are warranted to resist wind speeds up to 120 mph (193 km/h) when installed to specification. Marion's typical daily-maximum winds average 16 km/h with gusts reaching 105 km/h — well below that threshold. The interlocking design (Slate, Cedar Shingle, Shake, Standing Seam, Mediterranean Tile profiles all use the same engineering) prevents wind lift at seams, a common failure point for asphalt and single-lock metal systems. UL 2218 Class 4 hail rating and the 120 mph wind warranty work together to protect against the freeze-thaw and wind-driven rain events Marion experiences 37 days per year. Combined with the self-healing aluminum oxide layer, the roof maintains structural integrity through decades of weather cycling.
