Interlock® Aluminum Roofing — all-climates performance specs for Scotts Mills, Oregon
| Spec / Rating | Climate / Risk Factor + What It Solves |
|---|---|
| Wind resistance: 120+ mph (193+ kph) | Extreme wind, hurricanes, storm uplift: full interlocking attachment helps prevent blow-offs, edge lifting, and panel loss in high-gust events. |
| Fire rating: Class A (with proper assembly) | Wildfire, embers, radiant heat, chimney sparks: non-combustible roof assembly provides the highest residential fire protection rating. |
| Hail resistance: UL 2218 Class 4 | Hail and impact debris: highest impact classification; resists cracking, splitting, and surface loss common with asphalt under hail strikes. |
| Snow & ice performance: interlocking, shedding profile | Heavy snow, freeze-thaw, ice dams: smooth aluminum sheds snow efficiently and the interlocking design helps block water intrusion when melt-refreeze cycles occur. (Final snow-load capacity depends on roof structure and local code.) |
| Corrosion resistance: aluminum (won’t rust) | Salt air, coastal humidity, wet climates: aluminum naturally resists rust and corrosion, reducing long-term failure risk in marine or high-moisture environments. |
| Heat / UV durability: baked-on coating system | High heat, intense sun, thermal cycling: coatings resist UV breakdown and temperature-swing fatigue, slowing fading and surface degradation. |
| Moss / algae resistance: smooth coated surface | Wet shade, organic growth: low-porosity metal surface gives moss/algae less to grip, reducing staining and maintenance. |
| Material: heavy-gauge aluminum roof profiles (Slate / Shake / Shingle / Tile / Standing Seam) | All-season structural stability: lightweight, dent-resistant metal system stays stable through large hot-cold swings and severe weather. |
| Expected lifespan: 50+ years | Long-term durability across climates: avoids re-roof cycles typical of shorter-life materials, even in high-stress environments. |
| Warranty: Lifetime-Limited, non-prorated + 50-year transferable | Lifetime protection + resale value: guarantees long-term material confidence and transfers to future owners. |

What our customers are saying:
Originally my house had an aluminum shingle roof by Fin-all. Eleven years later, after an oak tree fell across my house , my insurance company installed a steel shingle roof because they said Fin-all was no longer in business. I was disappointed because I felt the replacement roof was not up to the standard of the aluminum roof that I originally had. Then we had a bad ice storm that broke huge branches from all the trees - sending a large branch spearing through my roof. After failing to be able to find out what kind of roof the insurance company had installed on my house they finally agreed to replace the entire roof again. After much research I finally found Interlock. I found out from Damon that Interlock is actually the company that bought out Fin-all; my original roof! Even though interlock was more expensive than any other estimate I received my insurance company accepted their estimate. All this to say: Interlock is even better than my original roof because they have made improvements on the original design and the quality is obviously better than the steel shingles that were replaced. The Interlock crew chief took the time to explain the differences in manufacturing and installation -Interlock is sturdier and has better texture for a much more appealing look. Both my previous roofs would take damage if walked on but because of the design and texture in these new shingles, they are much sturdier. I am confident that I now have the best roof on the market- and an excellent warranty as well!! Positive: Responsiveness, Quality, Professionalism Services: Roof damage repair, Roof installation
Positive, Responsiveness, Services: Roof installation
Ross and Mike are very knowledgeable. Both were very helpful and informative. Great staff and looks like a wonderful product!!

Metal Roofing FAQs for Homeowners in Scotts Mills
The following metal roofing FAQs are designed specifically for homeowners in Scotts Mills, Oregon. Whether you are building a new home or replacing an existing roof, understanding how roofing materials perform in local weather conditions is essential. From wind and storm protection to fire resistance, hail impact, snow loads, and coastal moisture exposure, Interlock’s Lifetime Aluminum Roofing System is engineered to provide long-term durability, energy efficiency, and peace of mind in Scotts Mills.
How does a metal roof handle Scotts Mills' heavy snow and freeze-thaw cycles?
Metal roofs shed snow effectively because the smooth aluminum surface and thermal properties prevent ice dams—a critical advantage in your region, which receives about 220 cm of snow annually and experiences roughly 37 freeze-thaw days per year. Interlock's four-way interlocking panels stay watertight even under winter stress. Snow guards are available if you want to control snow release. The lightweight design (the Shingle profile at 0.41 lb/sq ft) eliminates structural concerns that heavy slate or tile would create, so you're installing a winter-ready roof without costly reinforcement.
Why does aluminum roofing never rust, even in wet climates like Marion County?
Aluminum cannot rust because it contains no iron; instead, it forms a self-healing oxide layer that protects the metal and seals itself when scratched. This is a fundamental material property, not a coating benefit. In Scotts Mills, where annual rainfall reaches approximately 1,732 mm, that constant moisture would devastate steel roofing, but aluminum actually improves in wet climates—the oxide thickens naturally. Interlock's roofing-grade 3105-H24 and 3003-H24 aluminum alloy (ASTM B209) is the same durable material used in coastal salt-air installations and even Antarctic research stations, so Marion County's wet winters are well within its proven range.
Will my homeowner's insurance rate drop if I install metal roofing in Scotts Mills?
That depends on your insurer's specific policy, but Interlock's UL 2218 Class 4 rating—the highest impact classification available—often qualifies for insurance discounts or credits. Class 4 means the roof resists hailstones up to 1.5 inches and is warranted against perforation, which directly reduces your insurer's payout risk. Contact your agent with Interlock's ICC-ES report (ESR-1790) and UL rating to request a quote adjustment. In a region with occasional severe weather, this durability can meaningfully lower your long-term insurance costs compared to asphalt, which typically needs replacement after hail damage.
Is a metal roof really cheaper over time than buying asphalt shingles twice?
Metal roofing costs more upfront than asphalt, but the calculation over 50+ years shifts dramatically in metal's favor. Asphalt typically lasts 15–25 years and requires multiple replacements over your ownership, with landfill disposal costs and roof-off labor each cycle. Interlock's Guardian Warranty is lifetime limited (non-prorated for the original owner) and one-time transferable, covering the original owner for life and the next owner for 50 years from completion. Given Scotts Mills' ~1,732 mm annual rainfall and 220 cm of snow, aggressive weather accelerates asphalt degradation. When you factor in zero replacement cycles, minimal maintenance, no structural reinforcement needed, and energy savings in summer months with about 3,004 sunshine hours per year, metal becomes your last roof purchase—a genuine financial advantage.
Can my existing roof structure support a metal roof, or will I need expensive reinforcement?
No structural reinforcement is needed because Interlock metal roofing is extraordinarily lightweight. The Slate and Cedar Shingle profiles install at roughly 0.41 lb/sq ft, and even the Mediterranean Tile—which replicates the look of heavy clay or concrete tile—weighs about 0.59 lb/sq ft, making it approximately 96% lighter than the materials it mimics. In Scotts Mills, where winter snow loads can accumulate over weeks due to about 220 cm annual snowfall, that light weight is a genuine safety advantage: your framing experiences minimal additional stress. The four-way interlocking panel design distributes load evenly, so installation typically happens directly over your existing roof without costly tear-off or structural work.
What does the metal roof installation process look like, and how long does it take?
Interlock Metal Roofing (PNW) Inc. has served the region since 1997 and can install over most existing roofs—no tear-off required unless structural damage is present. The four-way interlocking panels lock together in sequence, with a trained installer completing typical residential roofs in 3–7 days depending on size, complexity, and weather. Scotts Mills' maritime climate means work may pause during heavy rain (you average about 1,732 mm annually), so scheduling in drier windows is smart. Your local Interlock installer will coordinate underlayment, flashing, and ventilation to ensure the system performs during the region's frequent rainfall and occasional 116 km/h wind gusts. Current promotion: no payments and no interest until Spring 2027, or 10% off installation.
How well does a metal roof hold up to Marion County wind gusts?
Interlock's four-way interlocking panels are warranted to resist wind speeds up to 120 mph (193 km/h) when installed to specification. Scotts Mills experiences typical daily winds around 13 km/h with gusts reaching approximately 116 km/h, which falls safely within that warranty coverage. The interlocking design means each panel locks to its neighbors on four sides—top, bottom, left, and right—so wind pressure cannot separate them. This is a structural advantage that flat shingles (asphalt or otherwise) cannot match. Combined with proper fastening and underlayment, your roof will handle the seasonal storms common to this region without leaking or panel lift.
What makes the Guardian Warranty different from other roof warranties?
The Guardian Warranty is lifetime limited and non-prorated for the original owner, meaning you're covered for the full term at full benefit with no gradual reduction—a rare promise in roofing. It covers rusting, rotting, splitting, cracking, curling, and loss of impact resistance. The warranty is one-time transferable: when you sell, the next owner receives 50 years of coverage from the roof's completion date. Most asphalt warranties run 20–30 years with heavy prorations; metal's dual ownership structure reflects Interlock's confidence in the material. In Scotts Mills, where 37 freeze-thaw cycles annually stress shingles through expansion and contraction, that non-prorated coverage protects you through decades of seasonal stress without diminishing protection.
Will a metal roof reduce cooling costs during Scotts Mills' warmer months?
Yes, if you choose an energy-efficient color. Interlock offers several energy-efficiency-verified profiles with thermal emissivity up to 0.84 and solar reflectance up to 0.55 (Aged Copper Penny), meaning the roof reflects heat rather than absorbing it like dark asphalt does. Scotts Mills receives about 3,004 annual sunshine hours, so summer heat gain is real. Aluminum conducts heat away from the living space, and the reflective coating reduces your air-conditioning load compared to traditional asphalt or even uncoated metal. Cool Roof Rating Council verification confirms these benefits. Winter is no disadvantage: the same reflective properties mean you're not losing extra heat. The energy savings compound over the roof's 50+ year lifespan.
Can metal roofing actually look like slate, cedar shake, or tile?
Yes—Interlock offers five profiles: Slate, Cedar Shingle, Shake, Standing Seam, and Mediterranean Tile, each with authentic dimensional texture and shadow lines cast by the interlocking profile itself. The profiles are available in multiple colors that match traditional materials. Each panel is roofing-grade aluminum alloy (ASTM B209) with a dual-sided Alunar 70% PVDF fluorocarbon finish warranted 30 years against chalking and fading, so the aesthetic holds over decades. Scotts Mills' ~1,732 mm annual rainfall and 220 cm snow mean traditional slate, shake, and tile roofs would require frequent maintenance and eventual replacement due to freeze-thaw damage. Metal replicates the visual richness of these premium materials while eliminating the fragility, weight, and maintenance burden—you get curb appeal and resale-ready aesthetics without the architectural vulnerabilities.
