What our customers are saying:
It has been a year since I had my Interlock roof installed and I have meant to write this letter. I am glad I waited because I discovered additional advantages to the roof system by Interlock. I initially was impressed by the planning. Mr. Baldassari explained the roof, brought samples, how it would be installed on my house and interface with existing gutters. He also provided local addresses of Interlock roofs that I could view which was very helpful. During the planning process, he recommended changes I may not have thought of but would eliminate future costs and problems. In my case, he recommended the replacement of several failing skylights which I would purchase but be installed at no charge. The job went smoothly. The crew showed up early and stayed late, answered all my questions, leaving a clean, organized job site at the end of each day. The attention to detail was impressive. The house was a complex roof with several skylights, vents, and a masonry chimney. There was also a large barn and outbuilding, Demetri, one of the crew, reinstalled a large weathervane on the barn assuring me if he installed it, it would never come off. I was happy with the roof install. Since the installation, I have found additional benefits. Because my roof had not failed completely the Interlock roof was able to be installed over the existing roof eliminating the cost of strip off and keeping all the asphalt shingles out of the landfill. I also reduced my insurance risk; one of the considerations was the high wind rating. I live in a hurricane high wind zone for insurance coverage. The deductible was about equal to a new asphalt roof if I put a new conventional roof on replacement cost is not covered, and they prorate it and give you even less as the roof ages, so you basically have no roof insurance. I feel I do not have that problem now with the Interlock roof due to the high wind rating and " data-wpil-keyword-link="linked">warranty. I have just retired, and this gives me a great peace of mind, a lifetime durable roof. I also lowered my insurance cost as now all buildings have a class “A” fire rating on the roof. The roof qualified for federal energy credits and meets “Energy Star” ratings, so I saved money on taxes. My energy costs are lower; the roof reflects summer heat keeping the attic cooler reducing air conditioning costs. My attic is vented to outside and uninsulated, so there is no advantage to heating. This roof also eliminates " title="ice dams" data-wpil-keyword-link="linked">ice dams due to its design, and while many homes had ice dams and water damage to the interior of the house last winter, I had no formation of ice dams and no damage at all, an unexpected bonus. I do not notice any noise from rain or weather an initial concern I had. I live on a busy street and have people stop to compliment on the roof (aged " data-wpil-keyword-link="linked">copper) and get information which I am happy to give. I have a more beautiful home, peace of mind, and will never have to re-roof.
Dear Interlock: It has been a couple of months since the installation of my Interlock roof was completed, and two neighborhood endorsements have been forthcoming in that period. First, neighbors have commented about how good it looks, and second, they have commented on the daily cleanup done by the installation crew. I heartily endorse my neighbors’ comments. The cleanup factor really became evident shortly after when a conventional shingle roof was installed a few houses away by a local contractor. Materials were staged in front of the house rather than out of sight in the rear, and the place looked like a mess until the job was completed. As you are aware, the design of my house coupled with the prior construction of an addition across the length of the rear presented unusual challenges. While aluminum shingles could be used on the front, the slope of the back required an installation of Interlock’s membrane roof product. Further complicating the matter was a double roof in the rear with no ventilation of the void between the two roofs. Although you built a ventilation solution into the contract price, hidden construction issues once the work commenced on the rear necessitated redesigning the proposed ventilation solution. This could easily have been an opportunity for Interlock to take advantage of the situation, but the pricing of the change was handled by you and your office staff in a very fair manner. The extensive carpentry that became necessary did, I suspect, add the better part of a day to the job, yet the additional cost was nominal for the effort involved. As important as the pricing was to me, it was just as important and most gratifying to see the carpentry skills employed by the installation crew as they implemented the changes. The one concern my wife had in going with a metal roof was noise during a rainstorm, and some severe weather has shown that noise is not a problem. Also, as everyone is aware, July broke heat records, yet my home’s interior has been more comfortable thanks to the reflectivity of the roof. In conclusion, I am very pleased with the outcome.

Metal Roofing FAQs for Homeowners in Ocean Drive
The following metal roofing FAQs are designed specifically for homeowners in Ocean Drive, Rhode Island. Whether you are building a new home or replacing an existing roof, understanding how roofing materials perform in local weather conditions is essential. From wind and storm protection to fire resistance, hail impact, snow loads, and coastal moisture exposure, Interlock’s Lifetime Aluminum Roofing System is engineered to provide long-term durability, energy efficiency, and peace of mind in Ocean Drive.
Will a metal roof hold up to Rhode Island's freeze-thaw cycles?
Yes—aluminum thrives in freeze-thaw conditions because it has no iron and cannot rust, even as water repeatedly freezes and thaws in cracks. Ocean Drive experiences about 64 freeze-thaw days annually with roughly 67 cm of snow, creating ideal conditions for rust in steel or degradation in asphalt. Aluminum's self-healing oxide layer resists corrosion year-round, and the roofing-grade 3105-H24 alloy (ASTM B209) is specifically formulated to maintain flexibility through temperature swings. That's why Interlock panels have been installed on Antarctic research stations—if they survive there, Rhode Island winters are straightforward.
How does a metal roof handle heavy snow and ice dams?
Metal roofs shed snow and ice more effectively than asphalt because the smooth, hard surface and four-way interlocking panel design create fewer places for ice to grip. With Ocean Drive averaging 67 cm of snow yearly and coastal winds reaching 178 km/h in gusts, the lightweight design (Shake profile at 0.58 lb/sq ft) means no structural reinforcement is needed even under peak snow loads. The panels remain dimensionally stable through freeze cycles, and optional snow guards can be installed if you prefer to control where snow slides. Unlike asphalt, which softens and traps ice, aluminum stays rigid and slippery.
Why is aluminum roofing better than steel in a coastal Rhode Island climate?
Aluminum cannot rust because it contains no iron—the only element that oxidizes into rust. Instead, aluminum forms a thin, transparent oxide layer that actually protects the underlying metal and self-heals when scratched. In Ocean Drive's salt-air environment, where 1210 mm of rain annually and coastal moisture accelerate corrosion in steel, this is a decisive advantage. Interlock applies Alunar 70% PVDF fluorocarbon coating to both sides of every panel, warranted 30 years against fading and chalking (ASTM D4214 measured). That dual-sided protection is why the same panels perform reliably from coastal homes to research stations.
Can a metal roof survive Ocean Drive's coastal wind gusts?
Yes—Interlock's four-way interlocking aluminum panels are warranted to resist wind speeds up to 120 mph (193 km/h) when installed to specification. Ocean Drive's typical gusts reach 178 km/h, placing your roof well within the rated envelope. The interlocking system distributes wind load across all four edges of each panel, creating a unified structural membrane rather than separate shingles that catch wind like sails. This design, combined with proper fastening and the ESR-1790 evaluation (ICC-ES, 2025), means your roof stays secure through nor'easters without requiring reinforcement or expensive structural modifications.
Will my insurance company give me a discount for a metal roof rated for hail?
Interlock metal roofing carries UL 2218 Class 4 impact rating—the highest available—and the warranty covers perforation from hailstones up to 1.5 inches. Many insurers recognize this non-combustible aluminum construction and Class A fire rating as lower-risk, and some offer discounts on premiums or deductibles. You should contact your carrier directly with the UL 2218 Class 4 specification and Guardian Warranty documentation; underwriting criteria vary by insurer. Given that aluminum's impact resistance doesn't degrade over time (unlike asphalt), your roof's claims value remains strong throughout its life.
Does a metal roof really reduce cooling costs in summer?
energy-efficient Interlock colors achieve up to 0.55 initial solar reflectance (Aged Copper Penny profile) and 0.84 thermal emissivity, meaning they bounce heat away instead of absorbing it like asphalt. Ocean Drive receives about 3103 sunshine hours annually, and even at Rhode Island's moderate 11.3°C mean temperature, summer cooling loads add up. The Cool Roof Rating Council rating confirms measurable energy savings compared to dark asphalt. You won't see dramatic AC bills drops in a coastal climate, but the reflective finish does lower peak indoor temperatures and reduces HVAC runtime—savings that compound over decades while an asphalt roof absorbs heat and degrades faster.
Can my existing roof structure handle metal panels, or do I need expensive reinforcement?
No structural reinforcement is needed. Interlock's Mediterranean Tile profile weighs just 0.59 lb/sq ft—about 96% lighter than concrete or clay tile—while the Cedar Shingle and Shake profiles are even lighter at 0.41 and 0.58 lb/sq ft respectively. Most homes built in the last 50 years can support these loads without modification. Because aluminum weighs so little, Interlock panels install directly over most existing asphalt roofs, eliminating tear-off costs and landfill waste. Your framing sees less cumulative stress from a 25-pound metal roof than from 500+ pounds of slate, so your home's structural integrity actually improves over the roof's life.
What maintenance does a metal roof require in Rhode Island?
Minimal—far less than asphalt, wood, or tile. Metal roofs don't require annual inspections, resealing, or shingle replacement. Ocean Drive's 1210 mm annual rainfall naturally rinses the Alunar-coated surface, and the aluminum doesn't split, curl, crack, or rot like wood or asphalt. The 30-year coating warranty covers chalking and fading, so color stays true. You'll occasionally clear leaves from gutters and trim overhanging branches—normal gutter maintenance—but you won't patch holes, replace shingles, or fight moss as you would with asphalt. That means no roofer bills every few years, just occasional inspections if debris accumulates.
Is a metal roof worth the upfront cost compared to asphalt in the long run?
Yes, when you calculate total cost of ownership over 50+ years. Asphalt costs less initially but requires replacement every 15-25 years; a typical home replaces asphalt three times before a metal roof fails. Add repair costs, labor inflation, and multiple tear-offs to landfills, and asphalt becomes significantly more expensive. Interlock's Guardian Warranty is lifetime limited for the original owner and transferable (50 years for the next owner), with no prorated material coverage—you're protected against rusting, rotting, splitting, and impact loss. Current financing offers no payments and no interest until Spring 2027 or 10% off installation, which improves the entry price further. Over a 50-year horizon, metal roofing is the last roof you buy.
How long does metal roofing installation take, and can you install it over my existing roof?
Installation typically takes 3-5 days for a standard residential roof, depending on size, complexity, and weather. Because Interlock panels weigh so little (Slate at 0.41 lb/sq ft), most installations proceed over existing asphalt without removal—no tear-off delays, no structural prep, and no temporary relocation needed. Your installer inspects the existing deck for soft spots and addresses any localized repairs, then installs underlayment and the interlocking panels per ESR-1790 guidelines. Ocean Drive's frequent rain and coastal winds can affect scheduling, so installers typically plan work between weather windows. Interlock Metal Roofing (New England) Inc., serving the region since 1999, manages local permitting and coordinates with your schedule to minimize disruption.
