Interlock® Aluminum Roofing — all-climates performance specs for Sakonnet Point, Rhode Island
| Spec / Rating | Climate / Risk Factor + What It Solves |
|---|---|
| Wind resistance: 120+ mph (193+ kph) | Extreme wind, hurricanes, storm uplift: full interlocking attachment helps prevent blow-offs, edge lifting, and panel loss in high-gust events. |
| Fire rating: Class A (with proper assembly) | Wildfire, embers, radiant heat, chimney sparks: non-combustible roof assembly provides the highest residential fire protection rating. |
| Hail resistance: UL 2218 Class 4 | Hail and impact debris: highest impact classification; resists cracking, splitting, and surface loss common with asphalt under hail strikes. |
| Snow & ice performance: interlocking, shedding profile | Heavy snow, freeze-thaw, ice dams: smooth aluminum sheds snow efficiently and the interlocking design helps block water intrusion when melt-refreeze cycles occur. (Final snow-load capacity depends on roof structure and local code.) |
| Corrosion resistance: aluminum (won’t rust) | Salt air, coastal humidity, wet climates: aluminum naturally resists rust and corrosion, reducing long-term failure risk in marine or high-moisture environments. |
| Heat / UV durability: baked-on coating system | High heat, intense sun, thermal cycling: coatings resist UV breakdown and temperature-swing fatigue, slowing fading and surface degradation. |
| Moss / algae resistance: smooth coated surface | Wet shade, organic growth: low-porosity metal surface gives moss/algae less to grip, reducing staining and maintenance. |
| Material: heavy-gauge aluminum roof profiles (Slate / Shake / Shingle / Tile / Standing Seam) | All-season structural stability: lightweight, dent-resistant metal system stays stable through large hot-cold swings and severe weather. |
| Expected lifespan: 50+ years | Long-term durability across climates: avoids re-roof cycles typical of shorter-life materials, even in high-stress environments. |
| Warranty: Lifetime-Limited, non-prorated + 50-year transferable | Lifetime protection + resale value: guarantees long-term material confidence and transfers to future owners. |

What our customers are saying:
It has been a year since I had my Interlock roof installed and I have meant to write this letter. I am glad I waited because I discovered additional advantages to the roof system by Interlock. I initially was impressed by the planning. Mr. Baldassari explained the roof, brought samples, how it would be installed on my house and interface with existing gutters. He also provided local addresses of Interlock roofs that I could view which was very helpful. During the planning process, he recommended changes I may not have thought of but would eliminate future costs and problems. In my case, he recommended the replacement of several failing skylights which I would purchase but be installed at no charge. The job went smoothly. The crew showed up early and stayed late, answered all my questions, leaving a clean, organized job site at the end of each day. The attention to detail was impressive. The house was a complex roof with several skylights, vents, and a masonry chimney. There was also a large barn and outbuilding, Demetri, one of the crew, reinstalled a large weathervane on the barn assuring me if he installed it, it would never come off. I was happy with the roof install. Since the installation, I have found additional benefits. Because my roof had not failed completely the Interlock roof was able to be installed over the existing roof eliminating the cost of strip off and keeping all the asphalt shingles out of the landfill. I also reduced my insurance risk; one of the considerations was the high wind rating. I live in a hurricane high wind zone for insurance coverage. The deductible was about equal to a new asphalt roof if I put a new conventional roof on replacement cost is not covered, and they prorate it and give you even less as the roof ages, so you basically have no roof insurance. I feel I do not have that problem now with the Interlock roof due to the high wind rating and " data-wpil-keyword-link="linked">warranty. I have just retired, and this gives me a great peace of mind, a lifetime durable roof. I also lowered my insurance cost as now all buildings have a class “A” fire rating on the roof. The roof qualified for federal energy credits and meets “Energy Star” ratings, so I saved money on taxes. My energy costs are lower; the roof reflects summer heat keeping the attic cooler reducing air conditioning costs. My attic is vented to outside and uninsulated, so there is no advantage to heating. This roof also eliminates " title="ice dams" data-wpil-keyword-link="linked">ice dams due to its design, and while many homes had ice dams and water damage to the interior of the house last winter, I had no formation of ice dams and no damage at all, an unexpected bonus. I do not notice any noise from rain or weather an initial concern I had. I live on a busy street and have people stop to compliment on the roof (aged " data-wpil-keyword-link="linked">copper) and get information which I am happy to give. I have a more beautiful home, peace of mind, and will never have to re-roof.
Dear Interlock: It has been a couple of months since the installation of my Interlock roof was completed, and two neighborhood endorsements have been forthcoming in that period. First, neighbors have commented about how good it looks, and second, they have commented on the daily cleanup done by the installation crew. I heartily endorse my neighbors’ comments. The cleanup factor really became evident shortly after when a conventional shingle roof was installed a few houses away by a local contractor. Materials were staged in front of the house rather than out of sight in the rear, and the place looked like a mess until the job was completed. As you are aware, the design of my house coupled with the prior construction of an addition across the length of the rear presented unusual challenges. While aluminum shingles could be used on the front, the slope of the back required an installation of Interlock’s membrane roof product. Further complicating the matter was a double roof in the rear with no ventilation of the void between the two roofs. Although you built a ventilation solution into the contract price, hidden construction issues once the work commenced on the rear necessitated redesigning the proposed ventilation solution. This could easily have been an opportunity for Interlock to take advantage of the situation, but the pricing of the change was handled by you and your office staff in a very fair manner. The extensive carpentry that became necessary did, I suspect, add the better part of a day to the job, yet the additional cost was nominal for the effort involved. As important as the pricing was to me, it was just as important and most gratifying to see the carpentry skills employed by the installation crew as they implemented the changes. The one concern my wife had in going with a metal roof was noise during a rainstorm, and some severe weather has shown that noise is not a problem. Also, as everyone is aware, July broke heat records, yet my home’s interior has been more comfortable thanks to the reflectivity of the roof. In conclusion, I am very pleased with the outcome.

Metal Roofing FAQs for Homeowners in Sakonnet Point
The following metal roofing FAQs are designed specifically for homeowners in Sakonnet Point, Rhode Island. Whether you are building a new home or replacing an existing roof, understanding how roofing materials perform in local weather conditions is essential. From wind and storm protection to fire resistance, hail impact, snow loads, and coastal moisture exposure, Interlock’s Lifetime Aluminum Roofing System is engineered to provide long-term durability, energy efficiency, and peace of mind in Sakonnet Point.
Will a metal roof handle Rhode Island's freeze-thaw cycles?
Yes—aluminum actually thrives in freeze-thaw climates. Sakonnet Point experiences about 64 freeze-thaw days per year, and aluminum's oxide layer self-heals when exposed to temperature swings, meaning no rust initiation during the wet-freeze-thaw loop that degrades steel or iron-bearing materials. The 3105-H24 / 3003-H24 aluminum alloy used in Interlock panels (ASTM B209 certified) has zero iron content, so the corrosion cycle that attacks traditional metal roofs simply cannot begin. Your roof remains structurally sound through decades of seasonal stress.
How does a metal roof handle heavy snow loads in Newport County?
Interlock's four-way interlocking aluminum panels distribute snow weight across the entire deck without relying on any single fastener, and the system's extraordinary lightness—the Slate profile at just 0.41 lb/sq ft—means your existing structure already supports the load. With about 67 cm of snow typical per year here, metal roofing actually outperforms heavier asphalt because the smooth, hard surface allows controlled shedding and makes ice-dam buildup far less likely. Snow guards can be added to any Interlock profile if you prefer additional retention for aesthetic reasons.
Can a metal roof survive Sakonnet Point's coastal wind gusts?
Absolutely. Interlock's four-way interlocking system and 120 mph wind warranty directly address the coastal conditions here—gusts regularly exceed 100 km/h and occasionally reach 178 km/h. Each panel locks to its neighbors on all four sides, distributing wind load across the entire roof plane rather than concentrating stress on individual fasteners. The Guardian Warranty explicitly covers wind-resistance performance when installed to specification, and your roof is engineered to shed offshore gales without uplift, panel separation, or fastener failure.
Does hail coverage matter for a metal roof in Rhode Island, and does Interlock qualify?
It does matter, and Interlock exceeds the standard. The Shake, Cedar Shingle, Slate, and Tile profiles all carry UL 2218 Class 4 impact rating—the highest available—and the Guardian Warranty covers perforation from hailstones up to 1.5 inches. In coastal New England, spring and summer storms can turn severe quickly. Because aluminum is non-combustible and Class A fire-rated, plus impact-rated to Class 4, you may qualify for homeowner's insurance discounts that offset or exceed the installation cost difference versus asphalt.
Why doesn't Interlock's aluminum roofing rust in salt air?
Aluminum cannot rust because it contains zero iron—the element that oxidizes and degrades in salt-spray environments. Instead, aluminum forms a transparent, self-healing oxide layer that actually protects the metal beneath. Sakonnet Point's coastal location means salt-laden fog, but this is exactly why Interlock applies its Alunar 70% PVDF fluorocarbon finish to both sides of every panel (not just the top), warranted 30 years against chalking and fading. The combination of an iron-free alloy and a dual-side protective coating is engineered specifically for salt-air durability.
Do I need to reinforce my roof framing for a metal roof?
No structural reinforcement is needed. Interlock's Mediterranean Tile profile, which replicates the heaviest traditional look, weighs only about 0.59 lb/sq ft—roughly 96% lighter than concrete or clay tile. In Sakonnet Point, where roofing contractors often quote expensive truss upgrades for tile or slate, Interlock installs directly over most existing roofs without structural modification. The light weight also reduces the ongoing stress from seasonal snow load—about 67 cm annually here—extending the life of your underlying framing and reducing settlement risk over time.
What's the real lifespan of an Interlock metal roof, and is the warranty worth it?
The Guardian Warranty is a lifetime limited, non-prorated material warranty for you as the original owner—covering rusting, rotting, splitting, cracking, curling, and loss of impact resistance for as long as you own the home. It's also one-time transferable to the next owner, who receives 50 years of coverage from completion. Unlike asphalt shingles (15–20 years) or wood shake (20–40 years, both weather-dependent), this is genuinely the last roof you buy. Given Sakonnet Point's 64 annual freeze-thaw cycles and salt-air exposure, the non-prorated protection against freeze-thaw damage and corrosion aligns perfectly with your climate's demands.
Will a metal roof reduce cooling costs in summer?
Yes—energy-efficient Interlock colors reflect heat that asphalt absorbs, reducing cooling load in warm months. Thermal emissivity reaches 0.84 on reflective colors like Aged Copper Penny (initial solar reflectance up to 0.55), meaning sunlight bounces away rather than warming the roof deck. Sakonnet Point receives about 3103 sunshine hours annually, so summer reflection matters. The Cool Roof Rating Council rating confirms measurable heat reduction. While coastal Rhode Island winters are cold, the reflective coating doesn't sacrifice cold-season benefits—the light-colored underside of every panel also radiates interior heat outward efficiently.
Who installs Interlock metal roofing in Sakonnet Point?
Interlock Metal Roofing (New England) Inc. has served this region since 1999, meaning they understand coastal New England conditions intimately—salt air, heavy snow, freeze-thaw, and the specific installation demands of historic Newport County homes. They're familiar with local building codes, the ICC-ES evaluation report ESR-1790 compliance required here, and the nuances of installing over existing roofs without structural modification. Currently, financing is available: no payments and no interest until Spring 2027, or 10% off installation. A local installer with 25+ years' experience ensures your warranty support and any service needs are handled by people who know your climate.
Is a metal roof better for the environment than asphalt shingles?
Substantially. Interlock aluminum is approximately 95% recyclable at end of life—unlike asphalt shingles, which are tear-torn off and landfilled every 15–20 years, creating millions of tons of waste nationally. A 50-year roof span in Sakonnet Point means one Interlock installation versus two or three asphalt tear-offs and hauls. The aluminum itself is extracted once, manufactured in Delta, BC, installed, and recycled indefinitely without property loss. CALGreen verification confirms reduced maintenance needs, which means fewer service visits and less resource consumption over the roof's life. This is how you break the asphalt replacement cycle.
