Review: May 16, 2016 Completion: August 18, 2021

It has been a year since I had my Interlock roof installed and I have meant to write this letter. I am glad I waited because I discovered additional advantages to the roof system by Interlock. I initially was impressed by the planning. Mr. Baldassari explained the roof, brought samples, how it would be installed on my house and interface with existing gutters. He also provided local addresses of Interlock roofs that I could view which was very helpful. During the planning process, he recommended changes I may not have thought of but would eliminate future costs and problems. In my case, he recommended the replacement of several failing skylights which I would purchase but be installed at no charge. The job went smoothly. The crew showed up early and stayed late, answered all my questions, leaving a clean, organized job site at the end of each day. The attention to detail was impressive. The house was a complex roof with several skylights, vents, and a masonry chimney. There was also a large barn and outbuilding, Demetri, one of the crew, reinstalled a large weathervane on the barn assuring me if he installed it, it would never come off. I was happy with the roof install. Since the installation, I have found additional benefits. Because my roof had not failed completely the Interlock roof was able to be installed over the existing roof eliminating the cost of strip off and keeping all the asphalt shingles out of the landfill. I also reduced my insurance risk; one of the considerations was the high wind rating. I live in a hurricane high wind zone for insurance coverage. The deductible was about equal to a new asphalt roof if I put a new conventional roof on replacement cost is not covered, and they prorate it and give you even less as the roof ages, so you basically have no roof insurance. I feel I do not have that problem now with the Interlock roof due to the high wind rating and " data-wpil-keyword-link="linked">warranty. I have just retired, and this gives me a great peace of mind, a lifetime durable roof. I also lowered my insurance cost as now all buildings have a class “A” fire rating on the roof. The roof qualified for federal energy credits and meets “Energy Star” ratings, so I saved money on taxes. My energy costs are lower; the roof reflects summer heat keeping the attic cooler reducing air conditioning costs. My attic is vented to outside and uninsulated, so there is no advantage to heating. This roof also eliminates " title="ice dams" data-wpil-keyword-link="linked">ice dams due to its design, and while many homes had ice dams and water damage to the interior of the house last winter, I had no formation of ice dams and no damage at all, an unexpected bonus. I do not notice any noise from rain or weather an initial concern I had. I live on a busy street and have people stop to compliment on the roof (aged " data-wpil-keyword-link="linked">copper) and get information which I am happy to give. I have a more beautiful home, peace of mind, and will never have to re-roof.

Review: August 12, 2012 Completion: June 24, 2013

Dear Interlock: It has been a couple of months since the installation of my Interlock roof was completed, and two neighborhood endorsements have been forthcoming in that period. First, neighbors have commented about how good it looks, and second, they have commented on the daily cleanup done by the installation crew. I heartily endorse my neighbors’ comments. The cleanup factor really became evident shortly after when a conventional shingle roof was installed a few houses away by a local contractor. Materials were staged in front of the house rather than out of sight in the rear, and the place looked like a mess until the job was completed. As you are aware, the design of my house coupled with the prior construction of an addition across the length of the rear presented unusual challenges. While aluminum shingles could be used on the front, the slope of the back required an installation of Interlock’s membrane roof product. Further complicating the matter was a double roof in the rear with no ventilation of the void between the two roofs. Although you built a ventilation solution into the contract price, hidden construction issues once the work commenced on the rear necessitated redesigning the proposed ventilation solution. This could easily have been an opportunity for Interlock to take advantage of the situation, but the pricing of the change was handled by you and your office staff in a very fair manner. The extensive carpentry that became necessary did, I suspect, add the better part of a day to the job, yet the additional cost was nominal for the effort involved. As important as the pricing was to me, it was just as important and most gratifying to see the carpentry skills employed by the installation crew as they implemented the changes. The one concern my wife had in going with a metal roof was noise during a rainstorm, and some severe weather has shown that noise is not a problem. Also, as everyone is aware, July broke heat records, yet my home’s interior has been more comfortable thanks to the reflectivity of the roof. In conclusion, I am very pleased with the outcome.

Metal Roofing FAQs for Homeowners in Sachuest

The following metal roofing FAQs are designed specifically for homeowners in Sachuest, Rhode Island. Whether you are building a new home or replacing an existing roof, understanding how roofing materials perform in local weather conditions is essential. From wind and storm protection to fire resistance, hail impact, snow loads, and coastal moisture exposure, Interlock’s Lifetime Aluminum Roofing System is engineered to provide long-term durability, energy efficiency, and peace of mind in Sachuest.

How does a metal roof handle snow and ice in Newport County winters?

Metal roofs shed snow and ice effectively because their smooth, hard surface prevents the bonding that causes ice dams on asphalt. Sachuest receives about 67 cm of snow annually and experiences roughly 64 freeze-thaw cycles per year—conditions that crack and curl traditional shingles but don't affect aluminum's structural integrity. Interlock's four-way interlocking panels stay watertight through repeated thaw-and-refreeze cycles, and optional snow guards let you control runoff safely without compromising the roof's performance.

Why does freeze-thaw cycling damage asphalt roofs but not aluminum?

Freeze-thaw damage occurs because water penetrates asphalt, expands when frozen, and cracks the material on repeat cycles. Aluminum's oxide layer is impermeable and won't absorb water, so it expands and contracts without damage—crucial for Sachuest's 64 annual freeze-thaw days. The Alunar 70% PVDF coating on both sides adds a 30-year warranty against chalking and fading, meaning seasonal stress won't degrade the finish. After 25 years of freeze-thaw cycling, asphalt becomes brittle; your Interlock roof performs identically to year one.

Can an aluminum metal roof rust near the coast?

No—aluminum cannot rust because it contains no iron. Its naturally forming oxide layer is self-healing: if scratched by a branch or installer tool, it automatically reforms when exposed to air. That's why Interlock installs on coastal salt-air homes alongside Antarctic research stations. The Alunar 70% PVDF fluorocarbon coating, applied to both sides of every panel, provides an extra 30-year warranty barrier against the salt spray and moisture that destroy steel roofs within years. Sachuest's location near salt water is actually where aluminum roofing's corrosion resistance shines.

Does a metal roof like slate or tile require structural reinforcement?

No structural reinforcement is needed because aluminum's weight is extraordinary—the Mediterranean Tile profile installs at just 0.59 lb per square foot, making it approximately 96% lighter than concrete or clay tile. This lets you install the aesthetic of premium tile directly over most existing roofs, avoiding costly framing upgrades. Traditional slate or clay tile can weigh 600+ pounds per square, straining rafters; Interlock's aluminum Slate and Tile profiles deliver that visual appeal while your home's existing structure bears almost no additional load. Your contractor can typically complete installation without engineer modifications.

How does a metal roof perform in Rhode Island's coastal wind gusts?

Interlock's four-way interlocking aluminum panels are warranted to resist wind speeds up to 120 mph when installed to specification. Sachuest experiences typical daily-maximum winds around 22 km/h, but gusts can reach 178 km/h during nor'easters—well within the roof's design envelope. The interlocking system locks each panel to its neighbors, preventing uplift and edge failure that plague single-fastener designs. Combined with ICC-ES ESR-1790 code compliance and proper installation by Interlock Metal Roofing (New England) Inc., your roof won't fail in the storms that damage neighborhood asphalt roofs.

With over 1,200 mm of rain per year, how does aluminum roofing prevent leaks?

Interlock's four-way interlocking panels create a watertight system where rainwater is directed downward and outward, bypassing fastener penetrations that are common leak sources. With Sachuest averaging 1,210 mm of annual rainfall, that's roughly 10 times the fastener holes of a traditional asphalt roof—yet metal's overlap design eliminates water entry at every seam. The panels install over a solid deck and underlayment, creating the same leak-stopping barrier as asphalt but with superior durability: no curling shingles, no compromised nail holes. Your roof sheds heavy downpours without pooling water that leads to interior damage.

What hail rating does Interlock roofing have, and can it lower insurance costs?

Interlock metal roofing carries a UL 2218 Class 4 impact rating—the highest available—and the Guardian Warranty covers perforation from hailstones up to 1.5 inches. Class 4 rating qualifies many homeowners for insurance discounts because hail damage claims on asphalt and wood roofs far exceed metal's claims history. Contact your insurer about discounts; some policies recognize metal's durability and reduce premiums or deductibles. For coastal Rhode Island, where spring storms bring hail risk, this rating is a genuine financial safeguard that asphalt roofs cannot match.

How much maintenance does a metal roof need compared to asphalt or wood?

Metal roofing requires virtually no maintenance—no shingle replacement, no algae treatment, no wood sealing or cracking repair. Asphalt requires inspection every 3–5 years, wood shakes crack and split within 15 years and need regular staining, and tile breaks under impact. Aluminum's CALGreen-verified design reduces maintenance burden entirely: over 64 freeze-thaw cycles per year, it won't curl, split, or lose granules like asphalt does in Rhode Island winters. A simple rinse every few years to remove salt residue is optional; the roof performs without intervention for decades. That's why the Guardian Warranty is truly lifetime for the original owner—the material simply won't fail.

What does Interlock's lifetime warranty actually cover, and how long does it transfer?

The Guardian Warranty is a lifetime limited, non-prorated material warranty for the original owner, covering rusting, rotting, splitting, cracking, curling, and loss of impact resistance. It transfers once to the next owner for 50 years from completion, making it a genuine asset for resale value. That means a roof installed today will still carry 50 years of transferable coverage when you sell your Sachuest home—a claim asphalt or wood roofing cannot make. Combined with aluminum's inability to rust and the 30-year Alunar coating warranty, you're protected against material failure far longer than the 15–25 year lifespan typical of competitors.

Is a metal roof really cheaper than asphalt over the long term?

Metal roofing typically costs more upfront than asphalt but lasts 3–4 times longer without replacement, meaning your lifetime cost per year is dramatically lower. Asphalt roofs need replacement every 15–25 years; Interlock lasts 50+ years as your primary roof. Over a 50-year period, you'd replace asphalt 2–3 times, paying removal, disposal, and labor fees each cycle. Current promotion: no payments and no interest until Spring 2027, or 10% off installation. That financing option makes the upfront investment manageable while you avoid the asphalt tear-off-to-landfill cycle—and the repair costs from 64 annual freeze-thaw cycles that degrade shingles in Sachuest's climate.
