I have enjoyed the new roof you have installed for almost a year now, and I want to say I am so pleased with it. Best of all it was recognized in my taxes and that was especially nice. I have to admit, I have the best looking roof in my neighborhood and it is permanent.

There could be improvement regarding communication of what days they were working and what days they weren't. I wish I had gotten the roof years ago. It wasn't as a good a fit on our old house. We knew we wanted to do this house and we finally got the money together to do it. We are so glad we did.

Review: February 24, 2015

Interlok Reps came across as high-pressured and as if trying to 'pull fast ones', like:----Demanding all homeowners be present for sales pitch, though I assured him we'd already been shown the product, only needed estimate and verification of materials; then if it looked feasible, then paperwork. ----Entire sales pitch felt high-pressured. ----We clearly and repeatedly stated, Interlok was far beyond our means to afford or finance, after they'd quoted prices, yet Reps continued to high-pressure and jig-figures by small amounts. ----Rep pulled out contract papers, despite being told we can't afford this; papers looked as if we needed a legal team to read and edit them, to have ANY hope of legal protections.Reps said a few things which conflicted with other statements in their pitch, as well as some bordering on sounding like scamming, like: ==="Standing seam roofing has fasteners that show"; Despite indicating our better-than-average knowledge of roofing and building, Reps emphatically tried to convince us of other metal roofing's inferiority by mis-stating facts, then changing subject. ==="Must include permit cost"; Our County does NOT require permit to replace roofing unless framing/structure needs fixed--ours does not: the roof deck is NOT considered structure for purposes of re-roofing. ==="We can roof-over the existing 2 layers of shingles to save you a big chunk off the price" ;But this was still more than double the cost of standing-seam; and, CODE:requires "must remove all old roofing if there is more than one layer of old roofing"...He knew this Code requirement to start with, stating it clearly at the beginning, then tried to buffalo us that we could get away without removing old roofing, after it was made clear to him YET AGAIN, that cost was crucial, and that we could NOT afford this: Conclusions: 1. He intended to bait-and-switch, and/or do an illegal job. 2. If he so easily used these tactics, what else was lied about or misled about?Cost, function and honesty trump Cosmetics. Notes re: realty/housing industries in general:The Interlok Reps came on the heals of our being sold a money-pit. We'd already gone deep into debt to repair/replace basic infrastructure which should have been done before being put on the market. Realtors and affiliated industries extensively use deceptive descriptives and practices to artificially pump prices, all over three counties we looked in; this was the best one we could find, and it was misrepresented and over-priced. The cunning, clever ways the various industries work together regarding real estate, allows each separate industry to appear mostly guiltless. "House flippers" routinely cover up infrastructure issues with cosmetics, and make more mistakes of their own which also need fixed. "Instant equity" appears to be a housing industry Secret Code for: "this is how much we KNOW it will take to fix things we're not telling buyers about, which can't be seen by inspectors buyers pay for, or items which are marginal or fall through Code cracks". Honesty, accountability and responsibility take a back-seat to getting fast money, at most levels, at least to some degrees. Better changes need made, but in today's sick business climate, that's not likely to happen fast enough to prevent more new homeowners losing their homes related to these issues. Too many industries, in every sector, have predatory and/or destructive practices which they continue to rationalize and excuse, to maintain business-as-usual. We'd also already been blitzed with questionable to shady contractors prior to Interlok Reps arrival, therefore sensitized to any hints of questionable business practices. More varieties of contractors and businesses have been knocking on our door and spamming our mail since then.

Factory to installers communication, shipping, and their materials breakdown was the only problem we really had. The roof was pretty much wide open for about two weeks exposed to the elements. Loan company used, a pain to work with

Dear Interlock Roofing, Thank you for coming by and installing a new roof on our house. After we first talked at the Tacoma Home Show in January, both Paul and Ross were fantastic in walking us through the process and explaining the roofing system when we met in February. They answered all our questions, and we were eager to get started. Patrick and Drew took the lead with the installation planning and paperwork, and once the materials were ready in May, Patrick dropped them off at our house. The three-man crew installed everything in three days and ensured any installation questions were answered and done properly. In the end, we love the look and expected longevity of our new roof.

Review: December 5, 2021 Completion: September 11, 2021

The sale experience was good, but the rest was far below expectations, especially for the price paid. We did not buy Interlock just for an attractive roof, we bought it because they are supposed to be experts, have a high level of customer services, and we thought would do things right without headaches. This is far from the case. Hire an company who's actual employees and managers will be on site, not Interlock. Turns out we were actually blindly hiring a crew, who sub-contracts for Interlock, and has a questionable level of experience. Interlock doesn't even show up at your job site at any time during the job, even if you have problems and repeatedly ask them to. Once they have your money at the end of the job, they don't care if you still have issues or even bother to respond to you when you have additional issue. They need an interlock staff member who is an installation expert to be on the job site ideally for the whole job, but at the least, at the start at the middle and at the end who can insure everything is done to high standards and that all of the customers issues are addressed promptly. Paying by the job is also super problematic, this only encourages the crews to work as fast as they possibly can, covering up or ignoring things that might take a bit longer. They have no incentive to fix or give the customer time to fix an issue. The one installation manager you have for a huge region is not even close to adequate, it's no surprise he could not give us an adequate level of communication or attention. Disappointing.

Review: May 24, 2021 Completion: April 21, 2021

They fell short with the roofing underlayment material. The type of boards they actually used. Maybe since they used one over another, they probably need to be more clear and advise the customer who chooses. It is something we noticed. Contact from the company for rescheduling could've been better. I understand delays are unforeseen, but keeping better communication with consumers so they aren't taking time off and then finding it wasn't necessary to do so due to a delay. They were quick to request a referral, which I gave them a good one online, but they were slow when it came time to take care of the damage done. They probably should've waited to ask for the referral until after they had repaired the damage. Now, we feel hurried for a great referral, but they are taking their time to come back for the damage. I look forward to recommending them. This project was referred to us by friends in the midwest. I hope the company follows through on the $500 referral.

Metal Roofing FAQs for Homeowners in East Olympia

The following metal roofing FAQs are designed specifically for homeowners in East Olympia, Washington. Whether you are building a new home or replacing an existing roof, understanding how roofing materials perform in local weather conditions is essential. From wind and storm protection to fire resistance, hail impact, snow loads, and coastal moisture exposure, Interlock’s Lifetime Aluminum Roofing System is engineered to provide long-term durability, energy efficiency, and peace of mind in East Olympia.

Does a metal roof handle East Olympia's snow and ice buildup?

Yes—metal roofs shed snow and ice more effectively than asphalt because aluminum's smooth surface and low friction allow snow to slide rather than accumulate. With about 40 cm of snow annually and roughly 34 freeze-thaw days per year in Thurston County, the real risk isn't snow weight but ice dams under asphalt. Interlock's four-way interlocking panels create a unified deck that sheds meltwater reliably, and optional snow guards let you manage runoff safely. The panels themselves weigh just 0.41 lb per square foot—your home's structure won't strain under the load.

Will heavy rainfall damage a metal roof in Olympia?

No—Olympia receives about 1370 mm of rain annually, and metal roofs are engineered to handle that volume. Interlock's four-way interlocking panels overlap and channel water downward; when installed to spec over solid decking with underlayment, they're as leak-proof as asphalt but far more durable. The interlocking design seals each seam from the inside, and the entire system is evaluated under ICC-ES ESR-1790 for both residential and commercial codes. Proper installation (handled by Interlock Metal Roofing PNW Inc., serving this region since 1997) ensures water drains predictably, not into your walls.

Why does aluminum never rust like steel metal roofs?

Aluminum cannot rust because it contains no iron—rust requires iron oxide to form. Instead, aluminum develops a thin oxide layer that actually protects the underlying metal and heals itself when scratched. Interlock uses roofing-grade 3105-H24 / 3003-H24 aluminum alloy (ASTM B209) coated with Alunar 70% PVDF fluorocarbon finish on both sides, which adds 30-year durability against chalking and fading. For East Olympia's 1370 mm annual rainfall and exposure to moisture, this means your roof won't corrode, perforate, or weaken over decades—the metal stays sound.

Can metal roofing survive Thurston County windstorms?

Absolutely. Interlock panels are warranted to resist wind speeds up to 120 mph when installed to spec. East Olympia's typical gusts reach about 99 km/h (roughly 61 mph), well below that threshold. The four-way interlocking system locks each panel to its neighbors on all sides, creating a unified, aerodynamic surface that doesn't lift or flutter. This design is proven in coastal salt-air installations and Antarctic research stations—if it holds in extreme conditions, Thurston County's weather poses no structural risk to your roof.

Do energy-efficiency metal roof colors really cut cooling costs?

Yes—energy-efficient Interlock colors reflect more of the sun's heat than asphalt absorbs. With thermal emissivity of 0.84 and initial solar reflectance up to 0.55 (Aged Copper Penny), these finishes stay cooler on hot days, reducing air-conditioning load. Olympia receives about 2881 sunshine hours annually, so reflective coatings compound savings over time. The Cool Roof Rating Council rating confirms measurable thermal performance. On a roof that lasts 50+ years, that efficiency compounds—lower summer bills and a smaller carbon footprint than the three or four asphalt roofs a home typically replaces in the same timespan.

Is metal roofing actually cheaper than asphalt over the roof's lifetime?

Metal typically costs more upfront but becomes cheaper when you factor in lifespan and replacement cycles. Asphalt lasts 15–25 years; Interlock carries a lifetime limited, non-prorated material warranty for the original owner, plus a 50-year transferable term for the next owner. Over 50 years, you'd replace asphalt three times (tear-offs, disposal, labor, materials), but metal goes once. Add energy savings, zero maintenance, and no repairs, and the total cost of ownership strongly favors metal. Interlock is currently offering no payments and no interest until Spring 2027 or 10% off installation—timing that offsets the upfront premium in East Olympia.

What makes Interlock's warranty different from other metal roofs?

The Guardian Warranty is non-prorated for the original owner—meaning it covers full replacement value at any point during your ownership, no declining benefit schedule. It covers rusting, rotting, splitting, cracking, curling, and even loss of impact resistance. It's one-time transferable, giving your home's next owner 50 years of protection from the completion date. No other roof type—asphalt, wood, or traditional metal—offers this combination of coverage and term length. For East Olympia's harsh freeze-thaw cycle (34 days annually), that assurance that splits and curling won't occur is genuine peace of mind backed by a company manufacturing roofs since 1998.

How much maintenance does a metal roof need compared to asphalt or tile?

Metal roofs need virtually no maintenance. Asphalt requires periodic seal-coating, granule replacement, and moss removal; wood demands staining and rot inspection; tile needs repointing and cracked-piece replacement. Interlock aluminum sheds debris naturally and resists moss growth on its smooth Alunar-coated surface. Rain (1370 mm annually in Olympia) keeps it clean; snow slides off without pooling. The design is CALGreen-verified for reduced maintenance. Over a 50-year lifespan, you save hundreds in professional cleaning, repairs, and preventive treatments—money that stays in your pocket while your roof quietly protects your home.

Can metal roofing look like slate, cedar shake, or tile without looking fake?

Yes—Interlock offers five profiles (Slate, Cedar Shingle, Shake, Standing Seam, Mediterranean Tile) molded and embossed to replicate traditional materials faithfully. Each profile maintains aluminum's real advantages: non-combustibility, durability, and 96% weight savings compared to authentic tile. The Alunar 70% PVDF finish (warranted 30 years against fading per ASTM D4214) holds color and texture depth year after year, even under Olympia's 2881 annual sunshine hours. You're not compromising aesthetics for function—you're choosing materials that look as good as stone but won't leak, rot, crack from freeze-thaw, or demand structural reinforcement.

Who installs Interlock Metal Roofing in East Olympia?

Interlock Metal Roofing (PNW) Inc. serves East Olympia and the surrounding Thurston County region. They've been installing roofs locally since 1997, bringing nearly three decades of experience with Interlock's interlocking panel system in Pacific Northwest weather—heavy rain, freeze-thaw cycles, and coastal salt-air exposure. Their familiarity with local code (ICC-ES ESR-1790 compliance), climate conditions, and installation specifics means your roof is installed to warrant-preserving spec from day one. They also honor the current promotion: no payments and no interest until Spring 2027, or 10% off installation. For a roof designed to last 50 years, local expertise matters.

Is a metal roof a good choice for East Olympia’s climate?

Yes. East Olympia averages about 40 cm of snow, 1370 mm of rain, roughly 34 freeze–thaw days a year, with peak wind gusts near 99 km/h. Interlock® aluminum roofing is wind-rated to 193+ km/h (120 mph), UL 2218 Class 4 impact-rated and Class A fire-rated, and its four-way interlocking panels shed snow and resist ice dams and freeze–thaw cracking — all backed by a lifetime limited, transferable warranty.
