Review: October 14, 2025

We recently had our roof replaced with interlock aluminum shingles and we love how it made our house stand out in our neighborhood. I would have given 5 stars but there were few things that I wanted to point out. Ross arrived on time and did an excellent presentation. I specifically asked him if their installers are contractors and his answer was no, they are employees of interlock. Turns out they are contractors which is no big deal as long as they do excellent work, it’s all about honesty. Prior to installation, the installers told me that it would take about two and a half days to finish which is great, I said no rush. The installation process took two weeks, I hope everything will go well this coming rainy season. The only thing I didn’t like was at the end of the day they leave their tools in the driveway just laying around and the worst they leave their microwave plugged into the outlet with damaged power cord. But with all things said, we love our new roof and only time will tell if it was worth the price.

Review: August 23, 2025

We recently had our roof replaced with aluminum shingles and are very satisfied so far. - Easy Sales Process – Thank you Ross for making everything clear and straightforward from the start. - Great Value – The price was very reasonable compared to other estimates. - Better Than Expected – The finished look exceeded our expectations and really improved the appearance of our home. It’s not as glossy as we feared, which we like. - Fast & Efficient – The crew worked quickly and finished everything in just 2 days for our ~1,000 sq. ft. house with two layers of old shingles. - No Issues – No noise at all, despite common concerns about metal roofs. Tip for others: Ask for the exact model and size of vents that will be installed before the project starts. Our vents were only a few months old but couldn’t be reused, and the ones the company brought were the wrong size. The crew had to buy replacements last minute, which worked but don’t perfectly match.

Metal Roofing FAQs for Homeowners in Rainier

The following metal roofing FAQs are designed specifically for homeowners in Rainier, Washington. Whether you are building a new home or replacing an existing roof, understanding how roofing materials perform in local weather conditions is essential. From wind and storm protection to fire resistance, hail impact, snow loads, and coastal moisture exposure, Interlock’s Lifetime Aluminum Roofing System is engineered to provide long-term durability, energy efficiency, and peace of mind in Rainier.

Does metal roofing handle heavy snow and ice in Rainier?

Yes—metal roofing actually sheds snow and ice more effectively than asphalt. Rainier averages about 30 cm of snow annually with roughly 46 freeze-thaw days per year, creating the perfect conditions for ice dam formation on traditional roofs. Interlock's four-way interlocking aluminum panels are smooth and slippery, so snow slides off rather than accumulating. The material itself doesn't expand and contract with freeze-thaw cycles the way asphalt does, so it won't crack or curl. If you need snow guards for safety, they install easily onto the standing seam or any profile.

Will a metal roof leak with Rainier's heavy rainfall?

Rainier receives about 1195 mm of rain annually, but the interlocking four-way panel design channels water down and out—not sideways into gaps. Each panel locks to its neighbors on all four edges, so water simply cannot find a path between them. The seams are designed to shed, not trap. When installed over a solid deck with underlayment (as code and Interlock's installation spec require), you get the same leak protection as a new asphalt roof, but without the risk of puncture, granule loss, or membrane failure that asphalt faces over 15–20 years.

How does aluminum hold up to freeze-thaw cycles?

Aluminum is dimensionally stable through freeze-thaw stress because it doesn't absorb water and has a consistent expansion coefficient. With about 46 freeze-thaw days annually in Rainier, asphalt shingles crack and curl as moisture penetrates and freezes beneath the surface; wood shakes split and rot. Interlock's roofing-grade 3105-H24 aluminum alloy (ASTM B209) simply expands and contracts minimally, year after year. The Alunar coating protects both sides of the panel, so salt spray and freeze-thaw don't degrade the finish. Over a 50-year lifespan, this stability is why the Guardian Warranty covers cracking and curling—Interlock expects neither.

Can an aluminum roof rust?

No. Aluminum contains no iron, so it cannot rust—that's a fundamental material property. Instead, aluminum naturally forms a microscopically thin oxide layer when exposed to air; if that layer is scratched, it self-heals. This matters in Rainier, where moist marine air and 1195 mm of annual rainfall accelerate corrosion of steel roofs. Even coastal roofing installations and Antarctic research stations use Interlock aluminum without rust concerns. The Alunar 70% PVDF fluorocarbon coating adds a 30-year warranty against chalking and fading, but the base material's rust resistance is permanent and free.

Is metal roofing heavy enough to need roof reinforcement?

The opposite: Interlock's aluminum is so light that you almost never need reinforcement. The Cedar Shingle profile weighs just 0.41 lb/sq ft, and the Mediterranean Tile—which replicates heavy clay or concrete—weighs only about 0.59 lb/sq ft, making it roughly 96% lighter than the real thing. Most homes can install Interlock over an existing roof without structural upgrade, saving thousands in labor and materials. This is especially valuable if your current asphalt is near the end of its life; tear-off, disposal, and structural work can double the cost. ICC-ES evaluation ESR-1790 confirms installation over existing roofs is code-compliant.

Will my metal roof blow off in Rainier's storms?

Rainier's typical wind gusts reach about 98 km/h, and the roof you choose should exceed that safely. Interlock's four-way interlocking panels are warranted to resist wind speeds up to 120 mph (193 km/h) when installed to specification—that's roughly double your area's peak gust risk. Each panel locks to its four neighbors, distributing wind load across the entire roof rather than relying on fasteners alone. The UL 2218 Class 4 impact rating (the highest available) also confirms the panels' rigidity under pressure. This engineering is why Interlock has been installed for over 25 years without widespread wind-related failures.

Is metal roofing fire-safe?

Yes. Interlock offers Class A fire rating in select colors—the highest classification available—because aluminum is non-combustible. It won't burn, doesn't spread flame, and won't emit smoke when exposed to heat. If wildfire risk or local fire code compliance is a concern, Class A aluminum roofing exceeds requirements. This is part of why ICC-ES evaluation ESR-1790 (reissued 2025 for IBC/IRC) and CALGreen verification include Interlock: the material is inherently safe and reduces ongoing maintenance risk. No asphalt or wood shake can match this performance.

Does a metal roof save money on heating and cooling?

Rainier receives about 2943 hours of sunshine per year, enough to make reflective roofing worthwhile. energy-efficient Interlock colors achieve up to 0.55 initial solar reflectance (Aged Copper Penny profile) and 0.84 thermal emissivity, meaning they reflect heat rather than absorb it like asphalt. Cool Roof Rating Council tested these values. On a 68°F day with sun, a reflective metal roof stays cooler than dark asphalt, reducing air-conditioning load and cost. You won't see savings on heating in Rainier's cool climate, but summer cooling—and avoiding premature asphalt breakdown from UV—adds years of roof life and lower utility bills.

Is metal roofing worth the upfront cost?

Compare the total cost over the roof's life, not just installation day. Asphalt lasts 15–20 years in Rainier's wet, freeze-thaw climate and requires gutters cleaned often from granule loss; you'll replace it two or three times before an Interlock roof reaches end of life. The Guardian Warranty is non-prorated—the original owner gets lifetime limited coverage for rusting, cracking, curling, and impact. You're buying the last roof you'll likely install. The local installer, Interlock Metal Roofing (PNW) Inc., has served the region since 1997 and can detail the math for your home. Current financing—no payments or interest until Spring 2027, or 10% off installation—improves affordability.

How long will my metal roof last?

Interlock metal roofing is manufactured to last 50+ years, and the Guardian Warranty backs this with lifetime limited material coverage for the original owner, non-prorated. That means no degradation schedule; a defect on year 30 is covered the same as year 5. The warranty transfers once to the next owner, who receives 50 years of protection from completion—a powerful selling point if you move. The coating itself carries a separate 30-year warranty against fading and chalking (ASTM standards D4214 and D2244). Given Rainier's 1195 mm annual rainfall and 46 freeze-thaw cycles, asphalt splits and rots; Interlock's aluminum doesn't absorb water, so it simply ages without degradation.
