Interlock® Aluminum Roofing — all-climates performance specs for Tono, Washington
| Spec / Rating | Climate / Risk Factor + What It Solves |
|---|---|
| Wind resistance: 120+ mph (193+ kph) | Extreme wind, hurricanes, storm uplift: full interlocking attachment helps prevent blow-offs, edge lifting, and panel loss in high-gust events. |
| Fire rating: Class A (with proper assembly) | Wildfire, embers, radiant heat, chimney sparks: non-combustible roof assembly provides the highest residential fire protection rating. |
| Hail resistance: UL 2218 Class 4 | Hail and impact debris: highest impact classification; resists cracking, splitting, and surface loss common with asphalt under hail strikes. |
| Snow & ice performance: interlocking, shedding profile | Heavy snow, freeze-thaw, ice dams: smooth aluminum sheds snow efficiently and the interlocking design helps block water intrusion when melt-refreeze cycles occur. (Final snow-load capacity depends on roof structure and local code.) |
| Corrosion resistance: aluminum (won’t rust) | Salt air, coastal humidity, wet climates: aluminum naturally resists rust and corrosion, reducing long-term failure risk in marine or high-moisture environments. |
| Heat / UV durability: baked-on coating system | High heat, intense sun, thermal cycling: coatings resist UV breakdown and temperature-swing fatigue, slowing fading and surface degradation. |
| Moss / algae resistance: smooth coated surface | Wet shade, organic growth: low-porosity metal surface gives moss/algae less to grip, reducing staining and maintenance. |
| Material: heavy-gauge aluminum roof profiles (Slate / Shake / Shingle / Tile / Standing Seam) | All-season structural stability: lightweight, dent-resistant metal system stays stable through large hot-cold swings and severe weather. |
| Expected lifespan: 50+ years | Long-term durability across climates: avoids re-roof cycles typical of shorter-life materials, even in high-stress environments. |
| Warranty: Lifetime-Limited, non-prorated + 50-year transferable | Lifetime protection + resale value: guarantees long-term material confidence and transfers to future owners. |

What our customers are saying:
Prompt service and very knowledgeable. Highly recommend.
My wife and I wanted a long-term roof and I think we found it. The product seems very good and are installer Daniel was terrific and a trooper put a lot of hours and a lot of time and made it look real nice when it was completed. I would recommend the company if you're looking for a metal roof.
Ivan Excellent will make it right!!
We needed a roof repair when our neighbors tree dropped a large limb through our roof. Ivan came And accessed The damage, Ordered the sheets we needed. He came back and did the whole Repair himself. So happy to have it fixed along with his recommendations to have the roof cleaned. We appreciate his skills in repairing The roof.
The Interlock associate Ivan, came did an awesome service in correcting the part needed to be corrected, he left us with instructions of what we needed to check and to get in touch with, if needed 😀 Ms. May the associate answering the phone was helpful for us to get prompt service. They are dependable. We received roof service.
The work was efficient and well done. The service, the people and team were great. Beautiful roof.
I highly appreciate the professionalism, workmanship and the quality of materials used. I don't doubt that it will be our forever roof and will not need to worry about replacement during the life of our house. Ross, Tony, Roma were all great throughout the new roof installation process.
We noticed water spots on the ceiling. Ivan came, found a hole likely caused by a branch in the recent wind storm. He repaired the hole on the spot. Thank you Ivan!
Ivan replaced our exhaust vent on the roof that had some leaking issue. We were impressed with his professionalism, courtesy and fixing the problem to our utmost satisfaction. We certainly would recommend him and the company for any roofing issues being it a new roof or repairs.
We recently had our roof replaced with interlock aluminum shingles and we love how it made our house stand out in our neighborhood. I would have given 5 stars but there were few things that I wanted to point out. Ross arrived on time and did an excellent presentation. I specifically asked him if their installers are contractors and his answer was no, they are employees of interlock. Turns out they are contractors which is no big deal as long as they do excellent work, it’s all about honesty. Prior to installation, the installers told me that it would take about two and a half days to finish which is great, I said no rush. The installation process took two weeks, I hope everything will go well this coming rainy season. The only thing I didn’t like was at the end of the day they leave their tools in the driveway just laying around and the worst they leave their microwave plugged into the outlet with damaged power cord. But with all things said, we love our new roof and only time will tell if it was worth the price.
Excellent contact and coordination with field representatives and installers/project manager.
We recently had our roof replaced with aluminum shingles and are very satisfied so far. - Easy Sales Process – Thank you Ross for making everything clear and straightforward from the start. - Great Value – The price was very reasonable compared to other estimates. - Better Than Expected – The finished look exceeded our expectations and really improved the appearance of our home. It’s not as glossy as we feared, which we like. - Fast & Efficient – The crew worked quickly and finished everything in just 2 days for our ~1,000 sq. ft. house with two layers of old shingles. - No Issues – No noise at all, despite common concerns about metal roofs. Tip for others: Ask for the exact model and size of vents that will be installed before the project starts. Our vents were only a few months old but couldn’t be reused, and the ones the company brought were the wrong size. The crew had to buy replacements last minute, which worked but don’t perfectly match.

Metal Roofing FAQs for Homeowners in Tono
The following metal roofing FAQs are designed specifically for homeowners in Tono, Washington. Whether you are building a new home or replacing an existing roof, understanding how roofing materials perform in local weather conditions is essential. From wind and storm protection to fire resistance, hail impact, snow loads, and coastal moisture exposure, Interlock’s Lifetime Aluminum Roofing System is engineered to provide long-term durability, energy efficiency, and peace of mind in Tono.
Does a metal roof handle heavy snow in Thurston County?
Yes—aluminum's lightweight design (the Shake profile weighs just 0.58 lb/sq ft) means snow won't stress your roof structure the way traditional tile would. Tono receives about 40 cm of snow annually and sits in a region with roughly 34 freeze-thaw cycles per year, creating the exact conditions where ice dams form on asphalt. The four-way interlocking panels shed water and ice far more reliably because the continuous metal surface offers no gaps for water to pool and refreeze. You can add snow guards to any profile if you're in a steep-pitch zone.
Will a metal roof withstand Tono's winter and fall storms?
Interlock metal roofing is warranted to resist winds up to 120 mph (193 km/h) when installed to spec, and Thurston County typically sees gusts around 99 km/h. The four-way interlocking aluminum panels lock edge-to-edge, distributing wind pressure across the entire roof rather than stressing individual fasteners. This same system has been installed from coastal salt-air homes to an Antarctic research station—environments far more extreme than what you'll face here. Your roof won't lift, separate, or allow wind-driven rain through the seams.
Can aluminum roofing rust or corrode in a wet climate?
Aluminum cannot rust because it contains no iron; it forms a self-healing oxide layer instead. Tono averages 1370 mm of rain per year, but that moisture simply cannot trigger the oxidation that weakens steel roofing. The Alunar 70% PVDF fluorocarbon coating (applied to both sides of every panel) adds a 30-year warranty against chalking and fading under constant moisture. Even in Pacific Northwest conditions where asphalt deteriorates from perpetual dampness, aluminum actually becomes more resistant—the oxide layer repairs itself whenever the surface is scratched.
Is a metal roof worth the upfront cost in Tono?
Metal roofing is the last roof you'll buy. An asphalt shingle typically lasts 15–20 years in Tono's 1370 mm annual rainfall and 34 freeze-thaw cycles; you'll replace it twice before aluminum reaches mid-life. The Guardian lifetime limited warranty covers the original owner, transferring once to the next owner for 50 years from completion—adding tangible resale value. Current financing offers no payments and no interest until Spring 2027, or 10% off installation, which significantly improves the math. Factor in zero maintenance versus periodic asphalt repairs and granule loss, and the per-year cost favors metal decisively.
Do I need to reinforce my roof structure for a metal roof?
No structural reinforcement is needed. The Mediterranean Tile profile, which mimics heavy clay or concrete tile, weighs only 0.59 lb/sq ft—about 96% lighter than the real thing. Most homes can support metal roofing directly over existing asphalt without modification, saving thousands in framing work. This weight advantage is especially important in Tono, where 40 cm of snow accumulates annually; the combination of lightweight aluminum and your existing structure means the total load remains well within design limits. Interlock's four-way interlocking system distributes loads evenly, reducing concentrated stress on any single point.
How does a metal roof prevent leaks in heavy rainfall?
Metal roofing channels water away by design. The continuous interlocking panels have no gaps where water can pool, unlike asphalt shingles that cup and crack in Tono's climate of 1370 mm annual rain and 34 freeze-thaw cycles. Each profile (Slate, Cedar Shingle, Shake, Tile, Standing Seam) is engineered with built-in water management—overlapping seams and valleys direct moisture downslope without allowing standing water. ICC-ES report ESR-1790 confirms the installation method meets IBC/IRC codes for water penetration resistance. Paired with standard metal roof underlayment, this system has a proven track record in far wetter environments.
Does metal roofing reduce cooling costs in the Pacific Northwest?
energy-efficient colors reflect heat rather than absorbing it. While Tono averages 2881 sunshine hours annually (moderate for the PNW), reflective coatings with thermal emissivity of 0.84 and initial solar reflectance up to 0.55 (Aged Copper Penny) reduce attic temperatures compared to dark asphalt. This cuts cooling costs in summer and reduces the cooling load year-round, lowering your HVAC strain. The Cool Roof Rating Council rating confirms measurable energy savings. You won't see the dramatic cooling payback of a Sun Belt home, but the cumulative benefit over decades of ownership—combined with the roof's 50-year transfer warranty—makes energy efficiency a genuine secondary benefit here.
How much maintenance does a metal roof really need?
Virtually none—that's the core advantage. Asphalt shingles deteriorate from granule loss and moisture exposure; wood shakes invite mold and rot; tile cracks in freeze-thaw cycles. Aluminum panels resist all three. You may occasionally clear leaves from valleys during the fall, but no resealing, repainting, or moss treatment is required. Interlock's CALGreen verification confirms reduced maintenance demands compared to traditional materials. Over Tono's 34 annual freeze-thaw cycles and 1370 mm rainfall, avoiding costly asphalt repairs and wood replacement adds up quickly. The 30-year Alunar coating warranty protects against chalking, meaning your roof's finish remains intact decade after decade.
How long does installation take and can you install over my old roof?
Installation typically takes 3–5 days depending on roof complexity. Yes, metal roofing installs directly over most existing asphalt without tear-off, saving time and landfill waste. Because Interlock panels weigh so little (Slate profile ~0.41 lb/sq ft), your home's structure supports the retrofit without modification—a major advantage in Tono's older homes. The local installer, Interlock Metal Roofing (PNW) Inc., has served the region since 1997 and understands Pacific Northwest conditions intimately. The installation follows ICC-ES ESR-1790 specifications, ensuring compliance with building codes and the warranty's performance requirements.
Is metal roofing fire-resistant?
Aluminum is non-combustible and available in Class A fire classification—the highest rating. Asphalt shingles are Class C or B, meaning they can propagate flame. In Tono, where fire risk increases during dry late-summer months despite the 2881 annual sunshine hours, a metal roof eliminates one major home vulnerability. Homeowner insurance sometimes offers modest discounts for Class A roofing. The ICC-ES ESR-1790 evaluation confirms fire performance under IBC/IRC standards. This doesn't replace defensible landscaping or other fire mitigation, but it removes your roof from the list of potential ignition points—a meaningful safeguard whether you live in a wildland-urban interface or a suburban neighborhood.
