Review: October 14, 2025

We recently had our roof replaced with interlock aluminum shingles and we love how it made our house stand out in our neighborhood. I would have given 5 stars but there were few things that I wanted to point out. Ross arrived on time and did an excellent presentation. I specifically asked him if their installers are contractors and his answer was no, they are employees of interlock. Turns out they are contractors which is no big deal as long as they do excellent work, it’s all about honesty. Prior to installation, the installers told me that it would take about two and a half days to finish which is great, I said no rush. The installation process took two weeks, I hope everything will go well this coming rainy season. The only thing I didn’t like was at the end of the day they leave their tools in the driveway just laying around and the worst they leave their microwave plugged into the outlet with damaged power cord. But with all things said, we love our new roof and only time will tell if it was worth the price.

Review: August 23, 2025

We recently had our roof replaced with aluminum shingles and are very satisfied so far. - Easy Sales Process – Thank you Ross for making everything clear and straightforward from the start. - Great Value – The price was very reasonable compared to other estimates. - Better Than Expected – The finished look exceeded our expectations and really improved the appearance of our home. It’s not as glossy as we feared, which we like. - Fast & Efficient – The crew worked quickly and finished everything in just 2 days for our ~1,000 sq. ft. house with two layers of old shingles. - No Issues – No noise at all, despite common concerns about metal roofs. Tip for others: Ask for the exact model and size of vents that will be installed before the project starts. Our vents were only a few months old but couldn’t be reused, and the ones the company brought were the wrong size. The crew had to buy replacements last minute, which worked but don’t perfectly match.

Metal Roofing FAQs for Homeowners in Lake Roesiger

The following metal roofing FAQs are designed specifically for homeowners in Lake Roesiger, Washington. Whether you are building a new home or replacing an existing roof, understanding how roofing materials perform in local weather conditions is essential. From wind and storm protection to fire resistance, hail impact, snow loads, and coastal moisture exposure, Interlock’s Lifetime Aluminum Roofing System is engineered to provide long-term durability, energy efficiency, and peace of mind in Lake Roesiger.

How does a metal roof handle heavy snow and ice in Washington winters?

Metal roofs shed snow and ice far more effectively than asphalt because aluminum's smooth, hard surface prevents ice from bonding. Lake Roesiger receives about 52 cm of snow annually with roughly 58 freeze-thaw cycles per year—conditions that crack asphalt shingles but don't affect Interlock panels. The four-way interlocking seams remain fully sealed even when snow and ice move across the roof. Optional snow guards can be installed if you want to control where snow slides. The lightweight design (Slate at 0.41 lb/sq ft) means no structural reinforcement is needed, even in snow-heavy years.

Does freezing and thawing damage metal roofing over time?

No. Aluminum actually improves under freeze-thaw stress because it expands and contracts uniformly without cracking, splitting, or curling—common failures in asphalt and wood shingles. The roofing-grade 3105-H24 and 3003-H24 aluminum alloy is engineered to handle thermal cycling. With approximately 58 freeze-thaw days per year in Lake Roesiger plus 1372 mm of annual rainfall, your roof experiences continuous moisture and temperature swings; Interlock's oxide layer self-heals when scratched, and the Alunar 70% PVDF fluorocarbon coating is warranted for 30 years against chalking and fading. This resilience is why Interlock has installations from coastal homes to Antarctic research stations.

Can metal roofing handle Lake Roesiger's heavy rainfall without leaking?

Interlock's four-way interlocking design creates a watertight seal that outperforms most roofing systems in heavy rain. Lake Roesiger averages about 1372 mm of rainfall annually, and the overlapping panel profile channels water downward while the continuous interlocking seams prevent water from entering sideways, even during driving rain or wind-driven moisture. A solid deck with underlayment—installed to ESR-1790 specifications—provides secondary protection. Unlike slate or tile, which have individual gaps and grout lines that fail over decades, Interlock's mechanical seal does not degrade. Thousands of Interlock installations in the Pacific Northwest's wettest regions have eliminated callbacks for water intrusion.

Is a metal roof safe in high wind? How does it hold up to Puget Sound gusts?

Yes. Interlock panels are warranted to resist wind speeds up to 120 mph (193 km/h) when installed per specification. Lake Roesiger's typical gusts reach about 96 km/h, well below this threshold. The four-way interlocking system—not fasteners alone—transfers wind load across the entire roof plane, distributing stress so no single panel bears the full force. This design earns the panels UL 2218 Class 4 impact rating, the highest available. Aluminum's light weight (Shake at 0.58 lb/sq ft) also means less inertial stress during gusts. The Guardian warranty explicitly covers wind damage, and installation records confirm zero failure rates in regional wind events over the past 25+ years of service.

Why doesn't aluminum roofing rust like steel, and does it matter in Washington?

Aluminum cannot rust because it contains no iron—rust is iron oxide, chemically impossible in pure aluminum. Instead, aluminum naturally forms a microscopically thin oxide layer that protects the underlying metal and self-heals when scratched. This distinction matters enormously in Lake Roesiger's wet climate of 1372 mm rain and frequent freeze-thaw cycles, where steel roofs and steel fasteners corrode within 15-20 years. Interlock uses roofing-grade 3105-H24 and 3003-H24 aluminum alloy (ASTM B209) and is installed from coastal salt-air homes to Antarctic research stations—the most corrosive environments on Earth. The Alunar 70% PVDF fluorocarbon coating, applied to both sides of every panel and warranted 30 years, adds additional barrier protection, making iron-free aluminum the only sensible choice for long-term durability here.

Do I need to reinforce my roof structure for a metal tile roof?

No structural reinforcement is required. Interlock's Mediterranean Tile profile weighs only about 0.59 lb/sq ft—approximately 96% lighter than concrete or clay tile—so it installs over most existing roofs without adding load. A typical home might support an extra 2-3 tons; concrete tile alone adds 12-14 tons. This weight advantage means you avoid thousands of dollars in structural upgrades while gaining tile's aesthetic appeal and the superior durability of aluminum. Lake Roesiger's 52 cm of annual snow creates significant weight during storms, making lightweight roofing especially valuable. The Guardian lifetime limited warranty covers material defects regardless of substrate, and installations over existing asphalt are completed in days, not weeks.

What warranty does Interlock offer, and how long will the roof last?

The Guardian warranty is lifetime limited and non-prorated for the original owner—meaning no depreciation over time—and covers rusting, rotting, splitting, cracking, curling, and loss of impact resistance. It's transferable once to the next owner, who receives 50 years of coverage from installation completion. This transfer provision protects your home's resale value and distinguishes Interlock from prorated warranties that decline annually. Interlock has been manufactured since 1998, and installations from that era are still performing without material failure in the Pacific Northwest's harsh climate of 1372 mm rain, 52 cm snow, and 58 freeze-thaw cycles per year. The 30-year Alunar coating warranty is measured by ASTM D4214 and D2244 standards, guaranteeing that color and gloss remain stable through decades of weathering.

Can a metal roof reduce cooling costs in summer?

Yes. Interlock's energy-efficient colors reflect solar heat rather than absorbing it like dark asphalt. Cool Roof Rating Council testing shows initial solar reflectance up to 0.55 on Aged Copper Penny and thermal emissivity of 0.84, meaning reflected heat doesn't re-radiate into your home. Lake Roesiger receives about 2907 sunshine hours per year, concentrated during the brief summer window when cooling demand peaks. Reflective aluminum reduces attic temperature by 10-20°F compared to asphalt, lowering cooling costs and extending HVAC life. The lightweight design (Slate at 0.41 lb/sq ft) allows air circulation, further cooling the roof structure. Over a 50-year lifespan, energy savings can total thousands of dollars while reducing your carbon footprint—a benefit tracked by CALGreen-verified roofing specifications.

How much maintenance does a metal roof need compared to asphalt or wood?

Virtually none. Interlock aluminum panels require no resealing, no recoating, and no damage inspection cycles. Asphalt shingles need inspection and spot repair every 5-7 years in Lake Roesiger's wet climate with 1372 mm of annual rainfall and 58 freeze-thaw days; wood shakes split and curl within 15-20 years, requiring replacement sections. Concrete tile develops algae, moss, and grout failure, demanding biennial cleaning. Aluminum's oxide layer and Alunar 70% PVDF coating (30-year warranty against chalking and fading) shed debris, algae, and moss naturally. Gutters may require seasonal clearing of leaves, but the roof itself remains unchanged for decades. CALGreen verification confirms Interlock qualifies as reduced-maintenance roofing. This translates to no contractor callouts and predictable ownership costs—a significant advantage on a home you plan to keep long-term.

Is metal roofing really more environmentally friendly than asphalt?

Yes, fundamentally. Interlock aluminum is approximately 95% recyclable at end of life, entering the metal stream indefinitely without degradation. An asphalt roof generates a 20-ton tearoff that goes to landfill every 20-30 years, and Lake Roesiger's 1372 mm of rainfall accelerates asphalt failure. Over a 50-year period, a single home requires 2-3 asphalt replacements—a cumulative 40-60 tons of waste. Interlock's lifetime warranty for the original owner and 50-year transfer term mean one installation lasts your ownership plus the next owner's. Manufacturing has occurred in Delta, BC since 1998, minimizing transport carbon. The lightweight design reduces structural demands, decreasing embodied carbon in home construction. The roofing-grade aluminum alloy (ASTM B209) contains no toxic fillers or solvents, and end-of-life recycling returns pure aluminum to mills without contamination, closing the loop permanently.
