I made it clear on the phone when I made the appointment that I only wanted a quote because we are in the planning stages of this project. I should have known on the phone not to make the appointment when they insisted that my husband had to be at the quote as well....it screams hard sell. The two sales men that came to our house seemed nice at first but the more we balked at the price and said we need time to think about it because it was a higher number than expected, the harder they pushed, to the point of telling us that we should not paint our house (already in the middle of that project and contract signed) so that we could spend that money on our roof instead. I couldn't wait until they left our house and wanted to take a shower when they were gone because I felt violated by their approach. Honestly if anyone asked for roofing company I would tell them to steer clear of this company.

I believe that aluminum is probably the superior metal product, but the cost difference between it and steel made it easy to eliminate from our decision.

I am very impressed with the quality of your metal roof and would have loved to have gone with it. Now I know that I should quadruple the amount of money I need to save up if I expect to have a metal roof. I realize your roof is superior to the standard shingles and was impressed with how they lock together to give a tight seal.

Review: April 6, 2018Completion: March 16, 2018

The only step that was missing was notification of actual start date. Otherwise, the rest of the process was fine. We're quite pleased with the end results. The roof is now the best feature of our 1912 victorian. Time for new siding to compliment the overall appearance.

Metal Roofing FAQs for Homeowners in North Sultan

The following metal roofing FAQs are designed specifically for homeowners in North Sultan, Washington. Whether you are building a new home or replacing an existing roof, understanding how roofing materials perform in local weather conditions is essential. From wind and storm protection to fire resistance, hail impact, snow loads, and coastal moisture exposure, Interlock’s Lifetime Aluminum Roofing System is engineered to provide long-term durability, energy efficiency, and peace of mind in North Sultan.

How does a metal roof handle North Sultan's heavy snow and freeze-thaw cycles?

Aluminum panels shed snow reliably because the smooth, hard surface resists ice adhesion far better than asphalt. North Sultan averages about 52 cm of snow annually across roughly 58 freeze-thaw days per year—conditions that crack and curl asphalt shingles. Interlock's four-way interlocking design locks panels tight; the lightweight construction (Shingle at 0.41 lb/sq ft) means snow load never stresses your structure. The non-porous aluminum oxide layer doesn't absorb moisture that refreezes and expands. Install snow guards if desired for safety, but the material itself outperforms in this climate.

Why won't an aluminum metal roof rust in Snohomish County's wet climate?

Aluminum cannot rust because it contains no iron—rust requires iron to form. Instead, aluminum develops a thin, transparent oxide layer that actually protects the metal underneath. When this layer is scratched, it self-heals in air. Interlock uses roofing-grade 3105-H24 and 3003-H24 aluminum per ASTM B209, and coats both panel sides with Alunar 70% PVDF fluorocarbon finish, warranted 30 years against chalking. With North Sultan's 1372 mm annual rainfall and frequent moisture, this passive protection—combined with the Alunar coating—means no rust stains, no metal degradation, no corrosion maintenance ever.

Can a metal roof survive North Sultan's wind gusts and storms?

Yes. Interlock's four-way interlocking aluminum panels are warranted to resist wind speeds up to 120 mph when installed to specification. Snohomish County's typical gusts reach about 96 km/h (60 mph), well below the rated threshold. The interlocking design locks each panel to its neighbors on all four sides—wind cannot lift or separate individual panels. UL 2218 Class 4 impact rating and the robust aluminum construction mean your roof stays intact through the region's winter storms and summer wind events. The warranty covers wind-driven water and mechanical failure.

Does aluminum metal roofing crack or split in freeze-thaw climates?

No. Aluminum is non-porous and does not absorb water, so it cannot expand when frozen or contract when thawed. North Sultan experiences about 58 freeze-thaw days per year—enough to destroy wood shakes and crack asphalt shingles through repeated moisture absorption and expansion. Aluminum sidesteps this entirely. The metal itself has no grain to split and no cellular structure to fail. The Guardian warranty explicitly covers cracking, splitting, and curling—defects common in wood and asphalt in your climate. Over a typical roof's 20-50 year lifespan, this freeze-thaw immunity pays for itself in avoided repairs.

Is a metal roof too heavy for my home's frame in North Sultan?

The opposite—Interlock metal roofing is so light it typically requires no structural reinforcement. The Slate and Cedar Shingle profiles install at around 0.41 lb/sq ft; even the Mediterranean Tile profile weighs only 0.59 lb/sq ft, making it about 96% lighter than concrete or clay tile. Asphalt shingles weigh roughly 2.5–3 lb/sq ft. Most North Sultan homes built in the last 50 years were framed for asphalt or wood, so metal is genuinely lighter than what your structure already supports. Interlock often installs directly over your existing roof, saving tear-off labor and cost. The lightweight design means no expensive foundation or beam upgrades.

What maintenance does a metal roof need compared to asphalt or wood shakes?

Metal roofing requires virtually no maintenance. Asphalt shingles need moss removal in wet climates like North Sultan's (1372 mm rain annually), periodic re-sealing, and replacement of curled or missing pieces. Wood shakes split and rot in 58 freeze-thaw cycles per year and need staining every 5–10 years. Interlock aluminum is non-porous, does not support moss or algae growth, never rots or splits, and needs only an occasional rinse to clear debris. The Alunar coating is warranted 30 years against chalking. The four-way interlocking design sheds leaves and dirt without pooling. No inspections, no sealant reapplication, no structural repairs—just install and let it work.

Will a metal roof make my home hotter in summer or colder in winter?

energy-efficient Interlock colors reflect heat efficiently, keeping your home cooler in summer. Thermal emissivity is 0.84 (on a scale where higher reflects more heat away); initial solar reflectance reaches 0.55 on lighter colors like Aged Copper Penny. This Cool Roof Rating Council rating means less AC load on hot days. In winter, metal does not insulate better than asphalt—insulation happens in your attic, not on the roof. What matters: the reflective coating reduces solar heat gain year-round, lowering cooling costs. North Sultan averages about 2907 sunshine hours annually; this reflectance compounds over decades. Combined with no sagging or moisture retention (unlike aged asphalt), the metal roof maintains consistent thermal performance for 50+ years.

What does the Interlock metal roof warranty actually cover and for how long?

The Guardian is a lifetime limited, non-prorated material warranty for the original owner, covering rusting, rotting, splitting, cracking, curling, and loss of impact resistance. It transfers once to the next owner for 50 years from installation completion—unusual in the roofing industry. Most asphalt warranties are 20–30 years and prorated (value decreases yearly). Metal roofing installed in 1998 by Interlock is still performing; your roof will outlast most mortgages. The Alunar coating is separately warranted 30 years against chalking and fading (ASTM D4214 measured). In North Sultan's wet, freeze-thaw climate, where asphalt typically fails in 15–20 years, this warranty difference is significant—you buy once, not twice.

Who installs Interlock metal roofing in North Sultan and how experienced are they?

Interlock Metal Roofing (PNW) Inc. serves the North Sultan and Snohomish County region and has been installing since 1997. They understand local climate stressors: heavy rainfall (1372 mm annually), typical wind gusts near 96 km/h, and 58 freeze-thaw cycles that demand precision installation. Interlock panels are manufactured in Delta, BC, just north of the region, and the local team knows the ICC-ES ESR-1790 code compliance inside out. They handle permitting, underlayment and deck prep, four-way interlocking detail, and often install over existing roofs to save cost. Current regional promotion includes no payments and no interest until Spring 2027 or 10% off installation. Request a site visit to discuss your roof and the warranty transfer option.

Is a metal roof worth the upfront cost compared to asphalt over its lifetime?

Yes, when you calculate total cost of ownership over 50 years. Asphalt shingles cost less upfront but need replacement every 15–20 years in North Sultan's climate—roughly three to four roofs per half-century. Interlock installs once and outlasts two or three asphalt cycles. Factor in zero maintenance (no moss removal, no re-sealing), no structural repairs from freeze-thaw damage, and lower cooling costs from solar reflectance (2907 sunshine hours annually means consistent energy savings). The Guardian's non-prorated lifetime warranty and 50-year transferability add resale appeal. Current financing (no payments, no interest until Spring 2027, or 10% off) reduces barrier to entry. Over a 50-year horizon, metal roofing's total cost—installation plus zero maintenance—beats asphalt significantly.

Is a metal roof a good choice for North Sultan’s climate?

Yes. North Sultan averages about 52 cm of snow, 1372 mm of rain, roughly 58 freeze–thaw days a year, with peak wind gusts near 96 km/h. Interlock® aluminum roofing is wind-rated to 193+ km/h (120 mph), UL 2218 Class 4 impact-rated and Class A fire-rated, and its four-way interlocking panels shed snow and resist ice dams and freeze–thaw cracking — all backed by a lifetime limited, transferable warranty.
