Review: October 14, 2025

We recently had our roof replaced with interlock aluminum shingles and we love how it made our house stand out in our neighborhood. I would have given 5 stars but there were few things that I wanted to point out. Ross arrived on time and did an excellent presentation. I specifically asked him if their installers are contractors and his answer was no, they are employees of interlock. Turns out they are contractors which is no big deal as long as they do excellent work, it’s all about honesty. Prior to installation, the installers told me that it would take about two and a half days to finish which is great, I said no rush. The installation process took two weeks, I hope everything will go well this coming rainy season. The only thing I didn’t like was at the end of the day they leave their tools in the driveway just laying around and the worst they leave their microwave plugged into the outlet with damaged power cord. But with all things said, we love our new roof and only time will tell if it was worth the price.

Review: August 23, 2025

We recently had our roof replaced with aluminum shingles and are very satisfied so far. - Easy Sales Process – Thank you Ross for making everything clear and straightforward from the start. - Great Value – The price was very reasonable compared to other estimates. - Better Than Expected – The finished look exceeded our expectations and really improved the appearance of our home. It’s not as glossy as we feared, which we like. - Fast & Efficient – The crew worked quickly and finished everything in just 2 days for our ~1,000 sq. ft. house with two layers of old shingles. - No Issues – No noise at all, despite common concerns about metal roofs. Tip for others: Ask for the exact model and size of vents that will be installed before the project starts. Our vents were only a few months old but couldn’t be reused, and the ones the company brought were the wrong size. The crew had to buy replacements last minute, which worked but don’t perfectly match.

Metal Roofing FAQs for Homeowners in Monroe

The following metal roofing FAQs are designed specifically for homeowners in Monroe, Washington. Whether you are building a new home or replacing an existing roof, understanding how roofing materials perform in local weather conditions is essential. From wind and storm protection to fire resistance, hail impact, snow loads, and coastal moisture exposure, Interlock’s Lifetime Aluminum Roofing System is engineered to provide long-term durability, energy efficiency, and peace of mind in Monroe.

How does a metal roof handle Monroe's snow and ice buildup?

Interlock's four-way interlocking aluminum panels shed snow efficiently because the smooth, slippery surface doesn't trap moisture the way asphalt does. With about 52 cm of annual snow and roughly 58 freeze-thaw cycles per year in Snohomish County, that matters: ice dams form when heat escapes through the roof and melts snow at the eaves. Aluminum's low thermal mass and reflective coating (initial solar reflectance up to 0.55) mean less heat buildup. Snow guards are available if you want to control shedding. The panels themselves won't crack or degrade from repeated freezing—unlike slate or wood shakes—because aluminum has no pores to trap water that expands when frozen.

Why won't my aluminum metal roof rust in Snohomish County's wet climate?

Aluminum cannot rust because it contains no iron; rust requires iron to form. Instead, aluminum develops a transparent oxide layer that self-heals when scratched—a natural, invisible shield that stays put. Monroe averages 1372 mm of rain yearly, so wet conditions are relentless, yet that same moisture that would corrode steel actually strengthens aluminum's oxide barrier. Interlock panels are coated with Alunar 70% PVDF fluorocarbon finish on both sides, warranted 30 years against chalking and fading, adding another layer of protection. In coastal salt-air climates, competitors often choose aluminum for this exact reason: no rust, no rot, no surprise corrosion bills.

Will freeze-thaw cycling in Monroe damage an aluminum roof?

Freeze-thaw damage happens because water enters material pores, freezes, expands, and cracks the material from inside—but aluminum roofing panels have no pores. With roughly 58 freeze-thaw days per year in Snohomish County and 52 cm of annual snow, your roof faces this cycle repeatedly. Asphalt shingles and wood shakes absorb moisture and fail under this stress; slate and tile can split. Interlock's roofing-grade 3105-H24 and 3003-H24 aluminum alloy (ASTM B209) expands and contracts slightly but won't crack, rot, or curl. The four-way interlocking system also prevents water from penetrating seams, so ice buildup doesn't force its way into the structure underneath.

How light is an aluminum metal roof, and do I need to reinforce my house?

Interlock metal roofing is extraordinarily light: the Slate profile installs at 0.41 lb/sq ft, while the Mediterranean Tile—which replicates the look of heavy ceramic—weighs only about 0.59 lb/sq ft and is roughly 96% lighter than real concrete or clay tile. This lightness means no structural reinforcement is needed, even if you install over an existing roof. Most homes in Monroe can accept the weight without modification. Compare that to real slate or tile, which can require thousands in framing upgrades. You save on labor, engineering, and the risk of settling or structural damage. Your existing roof deck simply supports the new aluminum system—a straightforward installation without hidden costs.

Can a metal roof handle Monroe-area wind gusts?

Snohomish County experiences typical daily-max winds around 14 km/h with gusts that can reach 96 km/h, and Interlock's four-way interlocking aluminum panels are warranted to resist wind speeds up to 120 mph (193 km/h) when installed to specification. The interlocking design means each panel is mechanically secured to its neighbors—wind doesn't peel panels from the roof or lift seams like it does with single-fastener designs. The system also carries a UL 2218 Class 4 impact rating, the highest available, which means it resists the sideways force of wind-driven objects. If you live near wooded areas where branches might fall, or in a location that sees occasional gusts at the upper end of regional variability, this design gives you real peace of mind.

Will heavy rain cause leaks in an aluminum metal roof?

Interlock's four-way interlocking panels overlap like fish scales, creating a weather-tight seal that sheds the 1372 mm of annual rainfall Monroe receives with virtually no ponding or seepage. The interlocking design itself is the leak protection—water runs downslope and can't pool in the joints the way it does with flat-seam or standing-seam systems that rely on sealant. When installed with solid decking and underlayment (as specified), the roof performs like asphalt does, but with permanent joints instead of ones that degrade. Installation crews here have 27 years of regional experience, so sealing details at valleys, penetrations, and flashing are done right the first time. No callbacks for mystery leaks.

How much maintenance does a metal roof need compared to asphalt or wood?

An aluminum metal roof requires almost no maintenance. You don't have to replace shingles that curl and crack, don't have to treat wood shakes for rot or insects, and don't have to worry about granule loss that reduces reflectivity over time. CALGreen verification confirms reduced maintenance compared to conventional roofing. In Monroe's wet climate—1372 mm rain, 52 cm snow, 58 freeze-thaw cycles annually—asphalt deteriorates faster because moisture and temperature swings break down the binder. You might hose off occasional debris or check gutters, but structural repairs are rare. Asphalt roofs typically need replacement every 15–20 years; Interlock's lifetime limited warranty covers the original owner, with transfer available to the next owner for 50 years from completion—meaning you're likely done roofing for life.

Is a metal roof worth the upfront cost over the life of my home?

Upfront cost is higher than asphalt, but total cost of ownership over 40+ years favors metal. You install Interlock once; asphalt requires replacement every 15–20 years, so you'd buy two or three asphalt roofs while this one warranty-covers the original owner and transfers 50 years to the next. Factor in tear-off labor and landfill disposal for each replacement, plus increasing energy bills from aging asphalt's lower reflectance. Monroe's average 2907 sunshine hours per year means reflective coatings (initial solar reflectance up to 0.55) actually reduce cooling costs—modest but real savings. The Guardian Warranty is non-prorated for the original owner, covering rusting, rotting, splitting, cracking, and curling. Over a lifetime, that's the last roof you buy, which beats the math on asphalt.

Can you install a new metal roof over my existing shingles in Monroe?

Yes, one of aluminum's advantages is its weight. At roughly 0.41–0.59 lb/sq ft, Interlock installs over existing roofing in most cases because the low weight won't overload your structure. Your existing deck provides a solid base; the metal roof goes right on top without tear-off labor, equipment rental, or asphalt disposal fees. Installation timeline typically runs 3–7 days depending on roof complexity and weather. Snohomish County's 1372 mm annual rainfall means crews schedule around wet windows, but the lightweight system makes setup and fastening faster than heavy slate or tile. Interlock Metal Roofing (PNW) Inc. has served the region since 1997, so local crews know Monroe's conditions, building codes (ESR-1790 compliance), and how to flash penetrations correctly on the first try.

Is metal roofing better for the environment than asphalt shingles?

Aluminum roofing is roughly 95% recyclable and breaks the asphalt tear-off-to-landfill cycle that buries millions of tons of used shingles yearly. When your metal roof reaches end of life (50+ years), the aluminum has value as scrap and returns to manufacturing loops. Asphalt shingles, by contrast, contain petroleum binder and fiberglass; most end up in landfills because recycling is cost-prohibitive. Over Monroe's wet climate—1372 mm rain, 58 freeze-thaw cycles—asphalt fails faster and triggers earlier replacement and landfill disposal. Interlock's durability means fewer replacement cycles across generations. The panels also qualify as CALGreen-verified for reduced maintenance burden, and reflective coatings (emissivity 0.84) meet Cool Roof Rating Council standards, reducing the urban heat island effect. One roof, one lifetime, minimal waste.
