Interlock® Aluminum Roofing — all-climates performance specs for Bothell East, Washington
| Spec / Rating | Climate / Risk Factor + What It Solves |
|---|---|
| Wind resistance: 120+ mph (193+ kph) | Extreme wind, hurricanes, storm uplift: full interlocking attachment helps prevent blow-offs, edge lifting, and panel loss in high-gust events. |
| Fire rating: Class A (with proper assembly) | Wildfire, embers, radiant heat, chimney sparks: non-combustible roof assembly provides the highest residential fire protection rating. |
| Hail resistance: UL 2218 Class 4 | Hail and impact debris: highest impact classification; resists cracking, splitting, and surface loss common with asphalt under hail strikes. |
| Snow & ice performance: interlocking, shedding profile | Heavy snow, freeze-thaw, ice dams: smooth aluminum sheds snow efficiently and the interlocking design helps block water intrusion when melt-refreeze cycles occur. (Final snow-load capacity depends on roof structure and local code.) |
| Corrosion resistance: aluminum (won’t rust) | Salt air, coastal humidity, wet climates: aluminum naturally resists rust and corrosion, reducing long-term failure risk in marine or high-moisture environments. |
| Heat / UV durability: baked-on coating system | High heat, intense sun, thermal cycling: coatings resist UV breakdown and temperature-swing fatigue, slowing fading and surface degradation. |
| Moss / algae resistance: smooth coated surface | Wet shade, organic growth: low-porosity metal surface gives moss/algae less to grip, reducing staining and maintenance. |
| Material: heavy-gauge aluminum roof profiles (Slate / Shake / Shingle / Tile / Standing Seam) | All-season structural stability: lightweight, dent-resistant metal system stays stable through large hot-cold swings and severe weather. |
| Expected lifespan: 50+ years | Long-term durability across climates: avoids re-roof cycles typical of shorter-life materials, even in high-stress environments. |
| Warranty: Lifetime-Limited, non-prorated + 50-year transferable | Lifetime protection + resale value: guarantees long-term material confidence and transfers to future owners. |

What our customers are saying:
I brought some thingd to their attention during installation, but were initially ignored. However, when I again brought these to their attention, they were fixed satisfactorily. The itemd were thingd one by the 2nd. The primary did the corrections. The completion of this job was slightly delayed due to an electical storn that chased the crew off the roof. I was impressed by then arriving early and staying until it was too dark to safely work longer.
We recently had our roof replaced with interlock aluminum shingles and we love how it made our house stand out in our neighborhood. I would have given 5 stars but there were few things that I wanted to point out. Ross arrived on time and did an excellent presentation. I specifically asked him if their installers are contractors and his answer was no, they are employees of interlock. Turns out they are contractors which is no big deal as long as they do excellent work, it’s all about honesty. Prior to installation, the installers told me that it would take about two and a half days to finish which is great, I said no rush. The installation process took two weeks, I hope everything will go well this coming rainy season. The only thing I didn’t like was at the end of the day they leave their tools in the driveway just laying around and the worst they leave their microwave plugged into the outlet with damaged power cord. But with all things said, we love our new roof and only time will tell if it was worth the price.
Be sure that everything is coordinated so the project starts on time. They need to have enough material and a dump truck so they don't get halfway through and then have to wait. The project manager needs to make sure his voicemail isn't full, return phone calls and emails, and explain why he's not doing that. These are the areas that could have been improved on for my project. It was a very expensive roof, and I was disappointed in how it played out. For example, it didn't start on time, and Abad worked on weekends by himself. The project manager was not on top of it. I expected more for a $40,000 roof. The quality of the workmanship is great, and hopefully it'll last a long time. I'm not a very knowledgeable person when it comes to roofing, but everything from the ground looks fine.
Interlock Roofing was friendly, helpful and super fast at installing our gorgeous new roof! Can't believe it's no louder in the rain than our old roof!
The other companies we spoke with came out and talked to us, then sent us a bid. They didn't put pressure on us, which is an important thing, especially because replacing a roof can be very costly. The other companies also went up on our roof to give an estimate, which Interlock did not do.
We are writing this letter to show our appreciation for the wonderful job that was done on our roof. From the date your company representative met with us in our home to the date of completion, words cannot express how completely satisfied we are with your company. We definitely wanted a quality roof and were very impressed by the representation that was given to us. The product you provide was enough for us to make our decision, however it was a huge plus not to have to deal with a pushy salesman and to have such polite, friendly and hard working men providing the service. It was a pleasure to have them around our home. The quality, craftsmanship and lifetime warranty of this ">roof far outweighs the increased costs over other roof systems. However, other roof systems don't come with lifetime warranties and many only last for 8 to 10 years. We may have paid a little more initially, but how wonderful it is to know we will never have to re-roof our home again. And in addition to all of the above, it looks so beautiful and has added so much style to our home. I never dreamed a roof could make such a difference. Again, Thank you so much and be sure to know we will highly recommend your company to all of our family and friends.
It has been a good experience, but the price is a little high. I am still thinking about it.
Their office administration wasn't very responsive to my questions, like the tarping problem.

Metal Roofing FAQs for Homeowners in Bothell East
The following metal roofing FAQs are designed specifically for homeowners in Bothell East, Washington. Whether you are building a new home or replacing an existing roof, understanding how roofing materials perform in local weather conditions is essential. From wind and storm protection to fire resistance, hail impact, snow loads, and coastal moisture exposure, Interlock’s Lifetime Aluminum Roofing System is engineered to provide long-term durability, energy efficiency, and peace of mind in Bothell East.
Does metal roofing handle Bothell East's snow and ice the way asphalt does?
Metal roofing handles snow differently than asphalt—the smooth, hard surface sheds snow faster, which actually reduces ice dam buildup during the region's typical 52 cm annual snowfall and 58 freeze-thaw cycles per year. The four-way interlocking aluminum panels shed water quickly once the sun hits, preventing the water pooling that causes asphalt to fail prematurely in freeze-thaw conditions. Snow guards can be installed if you want snow to stay put for aesthetic reasons. The lightweight construction at 0.41 to 0.59 lb/sq ft means no structural strain from accumulated snow load, a real advantage over slate or concrete tile.
Why don't Interlock metal roofs rust like steel roofs, especially in wet climates?
Interlock panels are made from aluminum alloy (ASTM B209 3105-H24 / 3003-H24), not steel, and aluminum cannot rust because it contains no iron. Instead, aluminum naturally forms a microscopic oxide layer that actually protects the underlying metal. If the coating or oxide layer gets scratched, the oxide self-heals. Add Interlock's Alunar 70% PVDF fluorocarbon finish on both sides—including the underside—and you have real durability against Snohomish County's 1372 mm of annual rainfall and the corrosive salt air that can hit even inland areas. That dual-sided coating carries a 30-year warranty against chalking and fading.
Can my roof structure handle metal roofing, or do I need reinforcement?
Metal roofing is so light that your existing structure almost always supports it without any upgrades. The Interlock Tile profile—which looks like heavy clay or concrete—weighs only about 0.59 lb/sq ft; concrete or clay tile weighs roughly 15 times more. Even the heaviest Interlock profile installs at well under 1 lb/sq ft, so you can typically install over your existing roof without tearing it off. This light weight also means faster installation, lower labor costs, and zero structural engineering fees. Compare that to slate or traditional tile, where structural reinforcement often runs $3,000 to $8,000 or more.
What warranty comes with Interlock metal roofing, and does it transfer to the next owner?
The Guardian warranty is a lifetime limited, non-prorated material warranty to the original owner—it covers rusting, rotting, splitting, cracking, curling, and loss of impact resistance with zero degradation over time. The warranty transfers once, giving the next owner a full 50 years from completion, which adds genuine resale appeal. The aluminum panels themselves outlast asphalt by 40+ years; you'll replace asphalt multiple times in that span. Combined with the 30-year Alunar coating warranty, you're looking at a roof designed to outlast most mortgages.
Does an Interlock metal roof actually reduce cooling costs in the Seattle area?
Yes, when you choose an energy-efficient color. Interlock's energy-efficient finishes have thermal emissivity of 0.84 and initial solar reflectance up to 0.55 (Aged Copper Penny), meaning they reflect heat that asphalt absorbs and re-radiates into your home. Over Bothell East's roughly 2907 annual sunshine hours, that reflection adds up—especially during spring, summer, and early fall when cooling costs climb. The Cool Roof Rating Council rating confirms the science. You won't need AC running as hard or as long, lowering utility bills year after year. The effect compounds the longer you own the roof, making the energy investment pay for itself incrementally.
How does Interlock stand up to Bothell East's wind gusts?
Interlock metal panels are warranted to resist wind speeds up to 120 mph (193 km/h) when installed to specification. That's well above Snohomish County's typical wind gusts around 96 km/h, with a built-in safety margin. The four-way interlocking design locks each panel to its neighbors, distributing wind load across the roof system instead of letting individual panels lift or peel. Couple that with proper fastening and you have a roof that won't fail during the seasonal gusts that can rattle asphalt shingles loose. The wind warranty is backed by real testing, not marketing language.
With Bothell East getting 1372 mm of rain per year, how does metal roofing prevent leaks?
Metal roofing's strength is that rainwater runs off quickly and predictably. The four-way interlocking panels create a sealed system—water is shed downward, not trapped. Proper installation includes an underlayment and solid deck that work as a secondary barrier, just like asphalt. The real advantage is that metal panels don't degrade in high-moisture climates the way asphalt breaks down under sustained rain. Asphalt shingles absorb moisture, become brittle, and eventually fail—especially over 58 freeze-thaw cycles per year, where water entering the shingle and then freezing causes cracking and splitting. Metal panels don't absorb water and don't crack from freezing.
How much maintenance does a metal roof actually need compared to asphalt or tile?
Interlock metal roofing requires far less maintenance than asphalt, wood, or tile. You don't need to replace shingles, clear debris from under curling shakes, or reset cracked tiles. The aluminum won't rot, split, or curl. Over a 50-year lifespan in a climate with 1372 mm annual rainfall and 52 cm of snow, that adds up to decades saved on repairs and replacements. The CALGreen-verified design confirms reduced maintenance obligations. A basic inspection every few years and occasional gutter cleaning is all you need. Compare that to asphalt shingles, which need repairs starting around year 10-15, or wood shakes, which demand regular sealing and treatment.
What's the installation timeline for Interlock metal roofing, and can it go over my existing roof?
Most Interlock installations take 2-5 days depending on roof size and complexity, making the disruption minimal compared to traditional reroof work. Because aluminum panels weigh only 0.41 to 0.59 lb/sq ft, they install directly over your existing asphalt shingles in most cases—no tear-off required. This cuts labor costs and eliminates days of debris removal. Your home stays drier during installation, and you avoid the landfill cost of old shingles. Interlock Metal Roofing (PNW) Inc. has served the region since 1997, so local installers understand Snohomish County's specific weather patterns and can schedule work between rain events.
Can I get a Class A fire rating on a metal roof in Washington?
Yes. Interlock metal roofing is available in Class A fire classification because aluminum is non-combustible—it cannot ignite or fuel a fire. That meets or exceeds code requirements in Washington State and qualifies under ICC-ES evaluation report ESR-1790 (reissued 2025 for IBC/IRC compliance). Some homeowners insurance carriers offer discounts for Class A roofing, and it's increasingly required in fire-prone areas or for certain property types. The non-combustible aluminum also performs consistently whether exposed to wildfire heat, chimney sparks, or lightning strikes—there's no risk of delamination or surface breakdown from thermal stress like asphalt or composite shingles face.
