Interlock® Aluminum Roofing — all-climates performance specs for Alderwood Manor, Washington
| Spec / Rating | Climate / Risk Factor + What It Solves |
|---|---|
| Wind resistance: 120+ mph (193+ kph) | Extreme wind, hurricanes, storm uplift: full interlocking attachment helps prevent blow-offs, edge lifting, and panel loss in high-gust events. |
| Fire rating: Class A (with proper assembly) | Wildfire, embers, radiant heat, chimney sparks: non-combustible roof assembly provides the highest residential fire protection rating. |
| Hail resistance: UL 2218 Class 4 | Hail and impact debris: highest impact classification; resists cracking, splitting, and surface loss common with asphalt under hail strikes. |
| Snow & ice performance: interlocking, shedding profile | Heavy snow, freeze-thaw, ice dams: smooth aluminum sheds snow efficiently and the interlocking design helps block water intrusion when melt-refreeze cycles occur. (Final snow-load capacity depends on roof structure and local code.) |
| Corrosion resistance: aluminum (won’t rust) | Salt air, coastal humidity, wet climates: aluminum naturally resists rust and corrosion, reducing long-term failure risk in marine or high-moisture environments. |
| Heat / UV durability: baked-on coating system | High heat, intense sun, thermal cycling: coatings resist UV breakdown and temperature-swing fatigue, slowing fading and surface degradation. |
| Moss / algae resistance: smooth coated surface | Wet shade, organic growth: low-porosity metal surface gives moss/algae less to grip, reducing staining and maintenance. |
| Material: heavy-gauge aluminum roof profiles (Slate / Shake / Shingle / Tile / Standing Seam) | All-season structural stability: lightweight, dent-resistant metal system stays stable through large hot-cold swings and severe weather. |
| Expected lifespan: 50+ years | Long-term durability across climates: avoids re-roof cycles typical of shorter-life materials, even in high-stress environments. |
| Warranty: Lifetime-Limited, non-prorated + 50-year transferable | Lifetime protection + resale value: guarantees long-term material confidence and transfers to future owners. |

What our customers are saying:
We recently had our roof replaced with interlock aluminum shingles and we love how it made our house stand out in our neighborhood. I would have given 5 stars but there were few things that I wanted to point out. Ross arrived on time and did an excellent presentation. I specifically asked him if their installers are contractors and his answer was no, they are employees of interlock. Turns out they are contractors which is no big deal as long as they do excellent work, it’s all about honesty. Prior to installation, the installers told me that it would take about two and a half days to finish which is great, I said no rush. The installation process took two weeks, I hope everything will go well this coming rainy season. The only thing I didn’t like was at the end of the day they leave their tools in the driveway just laying around and the worst they leave their microwave plugged into the outlet with damaged power cord. But with all things said, we love our new roof and only time will tell if it was worth the price.
Be sure that everything is coordinated so the project starts on time. They need to have enough material and a dump truck so they don't get halfway through and then have to wait. The project manager needs to make sure his voicemail isn't full, return phone calls and emails, and explain why he's not doing that. These are the areas that could have been improved on for my project. It was a very expensive roof, and I was disappointed in how it played out. For example, it didn't start on time, and Abad worked on weekends by himself. The project manager was not on top of it. I expected more for a $40,000 roof. The quality of the workmanship is great, and hopefully it'll last a long time. I'm not a very knowledgeable person when it comes to roofing, but everything from the ground looks fine.
Interlock Roofing was friendly, helpful and super fast at installing our gorgeous new roof! Can't believe it's no louder in the rain than our old roof!
The other companies we spoke with came out and talked to us, then sent us a bid. They didn't put pressure on us, which is an important thing, especially because replacing a roof can be very costly. The other companies also went up on our roof to give an estimate, which Interlock did not do.
We are writing this letter to show our appreciation for the wonderful job that was done on our roof. From the date your company representative met with us in our home to the date of completion, words cannot express how completely satisfied we are with your company. We definitely wanted a quality roof and were very impressed by the representation that was given to us. The product you provide was enough for us to make our decision, however it was a huge plus not to have to deal with a pushy salesman and to have such polite, friendly and hard working men providing the service. It was a pleasure to have them around our home. The quality, craftsmanship and lifetime warranty of this ">roof far outweighs the increased costs over other roof systems. However, other roof systems don't come with lifetime warranties and many only last for 8 to 10 years. We may have paid a little more initially, but how wonderful it is to know we will never have to re-roof our home again. And in addition to all of the above, it looks so beautiful and has added so much style to our home. I never dreamed a roof could make such a difference. Again, Thank you so much and be sure to know we will highly recommend your company to all of our family and friends.
I brought some thingd to their attention during installation, but were initially ignored. However, when I again brought these to their attention, they were fixed satisfactorily. The itemd were thingd one by the 2nd. The primary did the corrections. The completion of this job was slightly delayed due to an electical storn that chased the crew off the roof. I was impressed by then arriving early and staying until it was too dark to safely work longer.
It has been a good experience, but the price is a little high. I am still thinking about it.
Their office administration wasn't very responsive to my questions, like the tarping problem.

Metal Roofing FAQs for Homeowners in Alderwood Manor
The following metal roofing FAQs are designed specifically for homeowners in Alderwood Manor, Washington. Whether you are building a new home or replacing an existing roof, understanding how roofing materials perform in local weather conditions is essential. From wind and storm protection to fire resistance, hail impact, snow loads, and coastal moisture exposure, Interlock’s Lifetime Aluminum Roofing System is engineered to provide long-term durability, energy efficiency, and peace of mind in Alderwood Manor.
Why won't my metal roof rust like a steel roof would in wet Pacific Northwest winters?
Interlock roofs are made from 3105-H24 aluminum alloy, which contains no iron—the element that rusts. Instead, aluminum forms a self-healing oxide layer that actually protects the metal underneath. With Alderwood Manor averaging 1148 mm of rain yearly and 31 freeze-thaw days, that protection matters: the Alunar 70% PVDF coating on both sides of every panel adds another 30-year warranty against corrosion. Even in salt-air coastal installations, this two-layer defense keeps the metal intact where steel would deteriorate within years.
How does a metal roof handle Snohomish County's snow and ice without leaking?
Aluminum's smooth, slippery surface actually sheds snow and ice faster than asphalt shingles, reducing ice-dam buildup during Alderwood Manor's typical 37 cm annual snowfall and freeze-thaw cycles. The four-way interlocking panels create a continuous weather barrier—no gaps for meltwater to penetrate. Your installer can add snow guards if you prefer gradual slide-off over immediate shedding, but the metal itself won't absorb moisture, warp, or trap ice the way wood or granular shingles do under those 31 freeze-thaw days per year.
Will a metal roof stay put in Puget Sound windstorms?
Interlock's four-way interlocking aluminum panels are warranted to resist wind speeds up to 120 mph (193 km/h) when installed to specification. Alderwood Manor sees typical gusts around 112 km/h, so you're well within safe limits. The panels lock together mechanically—not nailed at every edge—so wind can't peel them apart like it does loose shingles. That interlocking system, combined with ESR-1790 code compliance and proper fastening, means your roof handles what the Pacific Northwest throws at it without concern.
Is a metal roof really worth the initial cost compared to replacing asphalt shingles?
An Interlock metal roof costs more upfront than asphalt, but it's the last roof you'll buy: a lifetime limited, non-prorated warranty for the original owner means you never replace it, and the transferable 50-year term protects the next owner. Asphalt roofs typically last 15–20 years and end up in landfills; you'll reroof twice or more over your home's life. When you factor in Alderwood Manor's 1148 mm annual rainfall and 31 freeze-thaw cycles—both hard on asphalt—the metal roof's no-replacement promise and zero-maintenance design (versus periodic shingle repairs) make it financially the one-time investment that pays off over decades, especially with current financing: no payments and no interest until Spring 2027.
Can a reflective metal roof lower cooling costs in a climate like ours?
Yes—Interlock's energy-efficient colors achieve up to 0.55 initial solar reflectance, with thermal emissivity of 0.84, meaning they reflect heat that asphalt absorbs and re-radiates into your attic. Though Alderwood Manor only sees about 2898 sunshine hours annually (less than sunnier regions), every degree you don't have to cool saves energy and extends HVAC life. The Cool Roof Rating Council verification confirms measured performance, not estimates. Over a 50-year roof life, even modest cooling gains compound—plus your home stays more comfortable on rare warm days without air conditioning strain.
Does a metal roof hold up to hail, and could that lower my insurance?
Interlock achieves UL 2218 Class 4 impact rating—the highest available—and the Guardian Warranty even covers perforation from hailstones up to 1.5 inches. That extraordinary durability often qualifies you for insurance discounts; contact your agent for specifics. While Alderwood Manor isn't a frequent hail zone, the regional wind gusts (112 km/h) and 37 cm annual snow show the roof must be tough, and metal's non-denting aluminum design proves it. Steel would dent and retain moisture at impact; aluminum resists both, keeping your home watertight regardless of what hits it.
Do I need to reinforce my house framing for a metal roof?
No structural reinforcement is needed. Interlock's aluminum Tile profile, for example, installs at only 0.59 lb/sq ft—about 96% lighter than concrete or clay tile. Even the heavier Shake at 0.58 lb/sq ft is trivial compared to traditional roofing materials. This lightweight design means Interlock can install directly over most existing asphalt roofs, saving you tear-off costs and landfill waste. Your existing framing, designed for asphalt and snow loads (Alderwood Manor averages 37 cm annually), handles aluminum easily. That simplicity also speeds installation and reduces labor expenses.
How much upkeep does a metal roof need in the Pacific Northwest?
Almost none—and that's the point. Unlike asphalt shingles that deteriorate under Alderwood Manor's 1148 mm annual rainfall and 31 freeze-thaw cycles (cracking, curling, granule loss), aluminum won't rot, split, or curl. No sealing, no patching, no algae treatment. The Alunar 70% PVDF coating is factory-applied to both panel sides and warranted 30 years against chalking and fading (ASTM D4214/D2244 measured), so there's no painting or recoating. Wood shakes need regular maintenance; aluminum simply sheds rain and snow. Over a 50-year lifespan, that freedom from repair cycles saves thousands in labor and material costs.
Is a metal roof fireproof, and does that matter in Washington?
Interlock aluminum achieves Class A fire rating (non-combustible material per ICC-ES ESR-1790, reissued 2025), the highest fire-safety classification available. While Snohomish County isn't a high wildfire zone like eastern Washington, Class A rating reduces homeowner's insurance risk and future-proofs your property. Metal cannot ignite or spread flame—unlike asphalt shingles or wood shakes. That non-combustibility also means no off-gassing under extreme heat. In any fire-safety scenario—whether neighborhood structure fire or distant wildland smoke—aluminum's inert nature protects your home and gives insurers confidence, often translating to favorable policy terms.
How long does installation take, and can you put a metal roof over my existing shingles?
Installation typically takes 2–5 days depending on roof size and complexity; your local installer, Interlock Metal Roofing (PNW) Inc., has served Snohomish County since 1997 and knows regional code and weather windows. Yes, Interlock installs directly over most existing asphalt roofs because the panels are so light (Slate at 0.41 lb/sq ft), eliminating expensive tear-off and landfill costs. Your existing structure handles the weight easily. The installer removes only penetrations (vents, flashing), installs Interlock's system, and finishes flashing and trim. That speed minimizes disruption—critical in Alderwood Manor's rainy season—and gets your roof weather-sealed fast.
