Interlock® Aluminum Roofing — all-climates performance specs for Picnic Point, Washington
| Spec / Rating | Climate / Risk Factor + What It Solves |
|---|---|
| Wind resistance: 120+ mph (193+ kph) | Extreme wind, hurricanes, storm uplift: full interlocking attachment helps prevent blow-offs, edge lifting, and panel loss in high-gust events. |
| Fire rating: Class A (with proper assembly) | Wildfire, embers, radiant heat, chimney sparks: non-combustible roof assembly provides the highest residential fire protection rating. |
| Hail resistance: UL 2218 Class 4 | Hail and impact debris: highest impact classification; resists cracking, splitting, and surface loss common with asphalt under hail strikes. |
| Snow & ice performance: interlocking, shedding profile | Heavy snow, freeze-thaw, ice dams: smooth aluminum sheds snow efficiently and the interlocking design helps block water intrusion when melt-refreeze cycles occur. (Final snow-load capacity depends on roof structure and local code.) |
| Corrosion resistance: aluminum (won’t rust) | Salt air, coastal humidity, wet climates: aluminum naturally resists rust and corrosion, reducing long-term failure risk in marine or high-moisture environments. |
| Heat / UV durability: baked-on coating system | High heat, intense sun, thermal cycling: coatings resist UV breakdown and temperature-swing fatigue, slowing fading and surface degradation. |

What our customers are saying:
We recently had our roof replaced with interlock aluminum shingles and we love how it made our house stand out in our neighborhood. I would have given 5 stars but there were few things that I wanted to point out. Ross arrived on time and did an excellent presentation. I specifically asked him if their installers are contractors and his answer was no, they are employees of interlock. Turns out they are contractors which is no big deal as long as they do excellent work, it’s all about honesty. Prior to installation, the installers told me that it would take about two and a half days to finish which is great, I said no rush. The installation process took two weeks, I hope everything will go well this coming rainy season. The only thing I didn’t like was at the end of the day they leave their tools in the driveway just laying around and the worst they leave their microwave plugged into the outlet with damaged power cord. But with all things said, we love our new roof and only time will tell if it was worth the price.
We are writing this letter to show our appreciation for the wonderful job that was done on our roof. From the date your company representative met with us in our home to the date of completion, words cannot express how completely satisfied we are with your company. We definitely wanted a quality roof and were very impressed by the representation that was given to us. The product you provide was enough for us to make our decision, however it was a huge plus not to have to deal with a pushy salesman and to have such polite, friendly and hard working men providing the service. It was a pleasure to have them around our home. The quality, craftsmanship and lifetime warranty of this ">roof far outweighs the increased costs over other roof systems. However, other roof systems don't come with lifetime warranties and many only last for 8 to 10 years. We may have paid a little more initially, but how wonderful it is to know we will never have to re-roof our home again. And in addition to all of the above, it looks so beautiful and has added so much style to our home. I never dreamed a roof could make such a difference. Again, Thank you so much and be sure to know we will highly recommend your company to all of our family and friends.
I am totally pleased with my decision over 10 years ago to go with a 50 year Interlock Metal Roof! It has held up great to the test of time and when I am no longer on this mortal coil, my daughter, granddaughters or grandson will be benefitting from my decision!
Our Interlock Roof has now been installed three weeks and we couldn't be more pleased. Suffice to say we haven't yet experienced the winds and rains of winter, but we are enjoying a much cooler home interior, as advertised. Certainly the compliments we have been receiving from neighbors and passersby have been most positive and rewarding. Our cul-de-sac has five homes, each with a different roof; " data-wpil-keyword-link="linked">shake, tile, wood shingle, comp, and Interlock Aluminum, and needless to say which one stands out the most. Several have even asked if it's a "" data-wpil-keyword-link="linked">slate roof. We've had so many ask about it that I now carry three of the shake shingles around in my car to show people we visit what InterlLock is all about. Needless to say we've become quite an expert at "locking" them together. The installation process was most impressive. We had two neighborhood homes, receive "comp" roofs while ours was being installed. They took about 3 days each to complete. Your installation team of Alex and Viktor Drigailo were here 11 days and what a pleasure and experience it was to observe their work. Just watching the time and care they exercised was sufficient to all that Interlock was a "different" roof. Their work ethic was something to behold and it was indeed our pleasure to have them with us for that period. We've even taken their photographs to remember them by. Thank you all for making our new Interlock roof possible.

Metal Roofing FAQs for Homeowners in Picnic Point
The following metal roofing FAQs are designed specifically for homeowners in Picnic Point, Washington. Whether you are building a new home or replacing an existing roof, understanding how roofing materials perform in local weather conditions is essential. From wind and storm protection to fire resistance, hail impact, snow loads, and coastal moisture exposure, Interlock’s Lifetime Aluminum Roofing System is engineered to provide long-term durability, energy efficiency, and peace of mind in Picnic Point.
Will a metal roof handle Picnic Point's snow and ice buildup?
Yes — aluminum's smooth, interlocking surface sheds snow and ice far better than asphalt. With about 37 cm of snow annually and 31 freeze-thaw days per year, your roof faces real ice-dam risk. Metal's thermal conductivity and the option to add snow guards gives you control over snow release without the pooling that causes leaks under shingles. The four-way interlock design prevents water infiltration even when snow melts unevenly, so you avoid the hidden damage asphalt roofs sustain in repeated freeze-thaw cycles.
Why doesn't an aluminum roof rust in Snohomish County's wet climate?
Aluminum cannot rust because it contains no iron — rust is iron oxidation only. Instead, aluminum forms a thin, invisible oxide layer that actually protects the metal beneath and self-heals when scratched. In Picnic Point's 1148 mm annual rainfall, this is a major advantage over steel roofing, which rusts from the inside out once its coating fails. Interlock's roofing-grade 3105-H24 aluminum is paired with a Alunar 70% PVDF fluorocarbon coating on both sides, warranted 30 years against fading, so your roof stays protected through decades of moisture exposure.
Can a metal roof handle Picnic Point's wind gusts?
Absolutely. Picnic Point's typical gusts reach 112 km/h, and Interlock roofs are warranted to resist wind speeds up to 120 mph (193 km/h) when installed to specification. The four-way interlocking aluminum panels lock together on all sides, distributing wind load across the entire roof rather than relying on nails or fasteners alone. This engineering is verified in ICC-ES evaluation ESR-1790, which covers the IBC and IRC building codes. Your roof won't shift, lift, or separate during the strong maritime wind events common to western Washington.
How does heavy rainfall stay out of a metal roof's seams?
Interlock's four-way interlocking design means water cannot penetrate seams — rainfall flows downward and outward by gravity and the panel geometry itself. The overlapping male-female joints on all four sides create labyrinthine paths that trap debris on top while water passes safely underneath. With 1148 mm of rain per year in your area, this geometry is engineered specifically to handle persistent moisture. Installation over a solid deck with modern underlayment — the standard for metal roofing — provides backup protection identical to asphalt. Properly installed, a metal roof has no higher leak risk than shingles; many homeowners find the streamlined drainage actually reduces the ice-dam leaks they experienced before.
What's the real lifespan and warranty on an Interlock metal roof?
Interlock offers a lifetime limited, non-prorated material warranty for the original owner, covering rust, rot, splitting, cracking, and impact loss — a promise backed by 25+ years of installations from coastal salt air to Antarctica. The warranty transfers once to the next owner for 50 years from completion, adding significant resale appeal. No asphalt roof lasts beyond 20 years in Picnic Point's freeze-thaw climate; metal outlasts it by decades. You're buying the roof you'll never replace, which erases the cost math entirely when you spread the expense over 40+ years versus two or three shingle replacements in the same timeframe.
Does an Interlock metal roof have hail damage coverage?
Interlock metal roofing carries a UL 2218 Class 4 impact rating — the highest available — and the warranty explicitly covers perforation from hailstones up to 1.5 inches. Class 4 means the roof resists the impact energy of 2-inch steel balls dropped from 20 feet. In a region where hail events are less common than snow, this durability is a bonus; what matters more is that many insurers offer discounts for Class 4-rated roofs because the claims history is so low. Contact your agent to see whether switching to Interlock qualifies you for a reduction that offsets part of the installation cost.
Will an Interlock metal roof lower cooling costs in summer?
Yes, if you choose an energy-efficient color. Interlock offers profiles with solar reflectance up to 0.55 and thermal emissivity of 0.84, meaning they bounce solar heat away rather than absorbing it the way asphalt does. In a climate with 2898 annual sunshine hours, that reflection compounds over time. The Cool Roof Rating Council verifies these properties. Summer cooling load reductions are modest in Picnic Point's 10.5°C mean temperature, but the real benefit is year-round: reflective coatings keep your attic cooler, reducing HVAC strain and extending equipment life. Unlike asphalt, which heats to 160°F+ in sun, metal roofs stay cooler, protecting your home's envelope.
Can I get a metal roof that looks like slate, cedar shake, or tile?
Yes — Interlock offers five profiles: Slate, Cedar Shingle, Shake, Standing Seam, and Mediterranean Tile, each with authentic texture and shadow lines that mimic the original material. The Slate and Cedar Shingle profiles replicate hand-split wood and quarried stone; the Mediterranean Tile mimics curved clay tiles at roughly 96% lighter weight, so no structural reinforcement is needed. All are four-way interlocking aluminum panels in roofing-grade 3105-H24 alloy with a 30-year Alunar finish warranty. You can choose the aesthetic you prefer — traditional or modern — without compromising durability, weight, or performance in Picnic Point's wet, windy climate.
How long does metal roof installation take, and do I need a new roof deck?
Installation typically takes 2-5 days depending on roof size and complexity; your local installer Interlock Metal Roofing (PNW) Inc. can give you an exact timeline. Crucially, you do not need a new deck in most cases. Aluminum is extraordinarily light — the Slate profile installs at 0.41 lb/sq ft, the Mediterranean Tile at 0.59 — so it installs directly over most existing asphalt roofs without structural reinforcement. This saves thousands in demolition, hauling, and disposal. Your contractor will inspect the existing deck for integrity; if sound, the new roof goes on top. This speed and minimal disruption mean your home is weathertight again faster than a traditional shingle replacement.
Is aluminum roofing actually better for the environment than asphalt shingles?
Yes. Interlock aluminum roofing is approximately 95% recyclable at end of life, so it cycles back into the material stream indefinitely. Asphalt shingles end up in landfills — millions of tons per year — because they cannot be recycled economically. Over a 50-year period, your metal roof avoids three or four tear-off-and-landfill cycles that asphalt requires in Picnic Point's demanding climate. The aluminum is manufactured in Delta, BC, minimizing transportation distance to the Pacific Northwest. CALGreen recognizes metal roofing as a reduced-maintenance material, meaning fewer replacement cycles and less embodied carbon per year of service. Choosing aluminum is a concrete environmental choice backed by material science, not marketing.
