Review: October 14, 2025

We recently had our roof replaced with interlock aluminum shingles and we love how it made our house stand out in our neighborhood. I would have given 5 stars but there were few things that I wanted to point out. Ross arrived on time and did an excellent presentation. I specifically asked him if their installers are contractors and his answer was no, they are employees of interlock. Turns out they are contractors which is no big deal as long as they do excellent work, it’s all about honesty. Prior to installation, the installers told me that it would take about two and a half days to finish which is great, I said no rush. The installation process took two weeks, I hope everything will go well this coming rainy season. The only thing I didn’t like was at the end of the day they leave their tools in the driveway just laying around and the worst they leave their microwave plugged into the outlet with damaged power cord. But with all things said, we love our new roof and only time will tell if it was worth the price.

Review: August 23, 2025

We recently had our roof replaced with aluminum shingles and are very satisfied so far. - Easy Sales Process – Thank you Ross for making everything clear and straightforward from the start. - Great Value – The price was very reasonable compared to other estimates. - Better Than Expected – The finished look exceeded our expectations and really improved the appearance of our home. It’s not as glossy as we feared, which we like. - Fast & Efficient – The crew worked quickly and finished everything in just 2 days for our ~1,000 sq. ft. house with two layers of old shingles. - No Issues – No noise at all, despite common concerns about metal roofs. Tip for others: Ask for the exact model and size of vents that will be installed before the project starts. Our vents were only a few months old but couldn’t be reused, and the ones the company brought were the wrong size. The crew had to buy replacements last minute, which worked but don’t perfectly match.

Metal Roofing FAQs for Homeowners in Maltby

The following metal roofing FAQs are designed specifically for homeowners in Maltby, Washington. Whether you are building a new home or replacing an existing roof, understanding how roofing materials perform in local weather conditions is essential. From wind and storm protection to fire resistance, hail impact, snow loads, and coastal moisture exposure, Interlock’s Lifetime Aluminum Roofing System is engineered to provide long-term durability, energy efficiency, and peace of mind in Maltby.

How does a metal roof handle heavy snow in Maltby winters?

Metal roofs shed snow and ice far better than asphalt because the smooth, hard surface and interlocking seams prevent water from pooling and refreezing. Maltby averages about 52 cm of snow annually and experiences roughly 58 freeze-thaw cycles per year, creating ideal conditions for ice dams on traditional roofs. Interlock's four-way interlocking aluminum panels, warranted to 120 mph wind resistance, stay locked tight even as snow weight shifts. If you want snow retention for safety, we install snow guards. The lightweight design—the Shake profile weighs only 0.58 lb/sq ft—means no structural strain from accumulated snow.

Will freeze-thaw damage hurt my metal roof over time?

No. Freeze-thaw cycling cannot damage aluminum because it has no water absorption and no iron to rust. Your region sees about 58 freeze-thaw days per year, which would cause asphalt to crack and wood to split—but aluminum's oxide layer simply hardens and self-heals when scratched. The Alunar 70% PVDF fluorocarbon coating, warranted 30 years against chalking and fading, adds a protective barrier that withstands that cycling. Interlock has installed roofs from coastal salt-air homes to an Antarctic research station, where freeze-thaw is extreme. That durability translates directly to Snohomish County's wet winters.

Does a metal roof really stay watertight with Maltby's rainfall?

Yes. Heavy rainfall—Maltby gets about 1372 mm per year—demands perfect sealing, and four-way interlocking panels deliver it. Each panel locks on all four sides to its neighbors, creating a continuous barrier. Water runs downslope across the interlocks rather than pooling at seams. Installation over solid decking with underlayment under the panels gives you the same leak protection you'd get from asphalt, with zero risk of water pooling in valleys or finding micro-gaps. When installed to ICC-ES ESR-1790 spec, these seams stay tight for decades. That's why we guarantee them—because the engineering works in wet climates.

Why choose aluminum instead of steel roofing for a wet climate?

Steel rusts the moment its coating scratches in a wet, salty, or humid environment. Aluminum cannot rust because it contains no iron. Instead, it forms a protective oxide layer that self-heals when damaged—a chemical process that strengthens the material over time. Maltby's 1372 mm annual rainfall and Puget Sound proximity mean moisture and salt air are constants. Interlock's 3105-H24 / 3003-H24 roofing-grade aluminum alloy has the Alunar coating applied to both sides of every panel, guarding against corrosion from above and below. After 25+ years of installations from coastal homes to far inland, aluminum simply outlasts steel in this climate without the rust maintenance burden.

Can a metal roof handle Snohomish County's wind and storms?

Yes. Typical daily winds here are 14 km/h, but gusts reach 96 km/h—and Interlock's four-way interlocking system is engineered for that. The panels are warranted to resist wind speeds up to 120 mph (193 km/h) when installed to spec. Each panel locks on all sides to prevent uplift or separation, and the aluminum's light weight (Shingle at 0.41 lb/sq ft) means less strain on fasteners and framing. The UL 2218 Class 4 impact rating also means the roof handles the hail that sometimes accompanies those storms. Installed correctly, your roof stays locked and watertight through the seasonal gusts Maltby sees.

Will my house need a stronger frame to support metal roofing?

No. Interlock's aluminum panels are extraordinarily light—the Mediterranean Tile profile weighs about 0.59 lb/sq ft, roughly 96% lighter than concrete or clay tile. That means the roof can install over most existing roof structures without reinforcement. Most Maltby homes built to hold asphalt easily handle metal. Avoid the cost and hassle of structural upgrades: the ICC-ES ESR-1790 evaluation confirms these panels meet building code for standard residential framing. If your inspector has concerns about your specific framing, we'll assess and advise. But in practice, the light weight is one reason metal roofing has replaced tile on thousands of older homes without modification.

Is metal roofing really cheaper than asphalt over a roof's lifetime?

The math is straightforward: asphalt typically lasts 15–20 years and requires tear-off, hauling, and landfill fees each time. Interlock's lifetime limited, non-prorated material warranty for the original owner covers rusting, rotting, cracking, curling, and impact loss. That's the last roof you'll buy. Over 40 or 50 years, you'll replace asphalt 2–3 times; you'll replace aluminum once. Maltby's 1372 mm rainfall and 52 cm snow annually accelerate asphalt wear (algae, UV breakdown, ice damage). Aluminum stays structurally sound. With current financing—no payments and no interest until Spring 2027, or 10% off installation—the lifetime value easily outpaces asphalt's repeat cost cycle.

How much upkeep does a metal roof actually need?

Far less than traditional materials. Asphalt requires moss-treatment, gutter-clearing, and inspection every 2–3 years in Maltby's wet climate—plus eventual tear-off. Wood shakes need periodic treatment and can rot if not maintained. Tile cracks and leaks over time. Interlock aluminum needs occasional gutter cleaning and visual inspection; no chemical treatment, no coating reapplication, no mold or rot risk. The Alunar finish is warranted 30 years against chalking and fading (ASTM D4214 / D2244 measured), so the color holds through about 1372 mm annual rainfall and 2907 sunshine hours. Rain naturally sheds debris. You're looking at maybe one professional cleaning per decade—not the annual maintenance asphalt demands in a rainy climate.

Can you install a metal roof over my existing shingles, or do I need a tear-off?

We can install over most existing roofs—no tear-off required, which saves time and money. Because Interlock's panels are so light (Shake at 0.58 lb/sq ft), the added weight is negligible. We install underlayment directly over your existing roof, then lay the interlocking panels on top, fastening through to the deck. It typically takes 2–5 days depending on roof size and complexity. The existing asphalt provides an extra moisture barrier, and the metal roof seals perfectly on top. We inspect your deck for rot or damage first; if repairs are needed, we factor them into the timeline and quote. Many Maltby homeowners prefer this method because it eliminates the disruption and waste of a full tear-off.

Is a metal roof better for the environment than asphalt?

Yes, fundamentally. Asphalt shingles are torn off every 15–20 years and sent to landfill by the ton. Interlock aluminum is about 95% recyclable at end of life, breaking the tear-off-to-landfill cycle. A single residential roof diverts roughly 8–12 tons of waste. Over 50 years in Maltby's wet climate (where asphalt breaks down faster due to 1372 mm rainfall and 58 freeze-thaw cycles), aluminum avoids 2–3 asphalt tear-offs and their associated transport emissions. The material is CALGreen-verified for reduced maintenance—no chemical treatments, no moss-killing runoff. When you eventually recycle it, the aluminum returns to the supply chain. It's not a marketing claim; it's basic material science. Aluminum has zero embodied rust; asphalt breaks down and cannot be reused.
