I made it clear on the phone when I made the appointment that I only wanted a quote because we are in the planning stages of this project. I should have known on the phone not to make the appointment when they insisted that my husband had to be at the quote as well....it screams hard sell. The two sales men that came to our house seemed nice at first but the more we balked at the price and said we need time to think about it because it was a higher number than expected, the harder they pushed, to the point of telling us that we should not paint our house (already in the middle of that project and contract signed) so that we could spend that money on our roof instead. I couldn't wait until they left our house and wanted to take a shower when they were gone because I felt violated by their approach. Honestly if anyone asked for roofing company I would tell them to steer clear of this company.

I believe that aluminum is probably the superior metal product, but the cost difference between it and steel made it easy to eliminate from our decision.

Metal Roofing FAQs for Homeowners in Startup

The following metal roofing FAQs are designed specifically for homeowners in Startup, Washington. Whether you are building a new home or replacing an existing roof, understanding how roofing materials perform in local weather conditions is essential. From wind and storm protection to fire resistance, hail impact, snow loads, and coastal moisture exposure, Interlock’s Lifetime Aluminum Roofing System is engineered to provide long-term durability, energy efficiency, and peace of mind in Startup.

Does metal roofing handle heavy snow loads in Snohomish County?

Yes—Interlock's aluminum panels are engineered for snow and freeze-thaw cycles. Startup averages about 120 cm of snow annually with roughly 36 freeze-thaw days, creating ideal conditions for ice dams on conventional roofs. Aluminum's weight (the Slate profile at 0.41 lb/sq ft) means zero structural reinforcement needed, yet it resists snow creep and shedding without the warping that wood or asphalt experience. The four-way interlocking system and optional snow guards prevent dangerous slides while the smooth surface sheds meltwater efficiently during spring thaw.

How does a metal roof perform in Startup's 1927 mm annual rainfall?

Interlock's interlocking panels shed rain faster than any conventional roofing. With nearly 1927 mm hitting your roof yearly, water runoff and drainage are critical; the four-way lock and solid deck installation eliminate leak points that plague overlapped shingles. The system is field-proven from coastal British Columbia homes facing salt spray to Antarctic research stations—environments at least as demanding as Snohomish County's wet climate. Proper installation per ICC-ES ESR-1790 ensures water bypasses the substrate entirely, reaching gutters directly.

What's the hail rating, and does it lower insurance costs?

Interlock achieves UL 2218 Class 4—the highest impact rating available—and the warranty even covers perforation from hailstones up to 1.5 inches. While Startup's climate favors heavy rain and snow over hail, that Class 4 rating signals superior durability to insurers and often qualifies homeowners for premium discounts on comprehensive coverage. Contact your insurer with the UL 2218 documentation; many carriers recognize impact-resistant roofing as a loss-prevention investment. The non-combustible aluminum also meets Class A fire rating requirements, another potential discount lever.

Will metal roofing hold up to Startup's wind gusts?

Absolutely. Startup experiences typical daily winds around 11 km/h but gusts reaching 127 km/h—Interlock's four-way interlocking panels are warranted to resist wind speeds up to 120 mph (193 km/h) when installed to specification. The mechanical interlock between each panel distributes wind load across the entire roof system rather than loading individual fasteners. This design surpasses the performance of shingle, tile, and standing-seam roofs that rely on adhesive or fewer fastening points. With over 25 years of Pacific Northwest installations, the system has proven itself in real gust conditions.

Can my roof structure handle metal roofing, or do I need expensive reinforcement?

No reinforcement needed. Interlock's aluminum is extraordinarily light—the Mediterranean Tile profile weighs just 0.59 lb/sq ft, roughly 96% lighter than concrete or clay tile. Even the Shake profile at 0.58 lb/sq ft is a fraction of traditional materials. Most Snohomish County homes can support Interlock over existing asphalt shingles without structural work, saving thousands in engineering and carpentry costs. The ICC-ES evaluation report ESR-1790 confirms installation over standard framing. Lightweight aluminum means you keep your home's original structure intact while upgrading to a 50+ year roof.

What maintenance does a metal roof actually require?

Minimal compared to asphalt, wood, or tile. No granule loss, no algae growth, no cracking from UV (Alunar coating rated 30 years), no moss—Startup's 1927 mm rain and consistent 10.8°C mean conditions that shorten asphalt life and encourage wood decay. Interlock is CALGreen-verified for reduced maintenance; most owners clear gutters and that's it. The aluminum won't split, curl, or lose impact resistance. Over 25 years, you'll spend a fraction of what asphalt or slate demands. Annual inspection is optional; the roof simply performs.

What's the warranty, and does it transfer if I sell?

The Guardian—a lifetime limited, non-prorated material warranty for the original owner, covering rust, rot, splitting, cracking, curling, and impact failure. It transfers once to the next owner for 50 years from completion, giving future buyers real confidence and protecting your home's resale appeal. This is rare in roofing: most asphalt warranties are prorated and last 15–25 years; metal shingles often carry limited terms. A roof that lasts the life of the home and then some—backed in writing—eliminates the 'last roof' decision anxiety.

Is metal roofing worth the upfront cost?

When you calculate lifecycle cost, yes. Asphalt requires replacement every 15–25 years in Snohomish County's wet climate; Interlock lasts 50+ years. Over three asphalt cycles, material and labor costs compound dramatically—plus disposal fees for each tear-off. Interlock's initial price is higher but you install it once. Add the 30-year Alunar coating warranty, zero rust risk from rain and humidity, and minimal maintenance, and the total cost per year is lower. Current promotion: no payments and no interest until Spring 2027, or 10% off installation. That makes first cost manageable while you're comparing the math.

Who installs Interlock metal roofing in Startup?

Interlock Metal Roofing (PNW) Inc. has served Snohomish County since 1997—over 25 years installing aluminum roofing in our exact climate. They're factory-trained on all five profiles (Slate, Cedar Shingle, Shake, Standing Seam, Mediterranean Tile), understand local wind, snow, and rainfall challenges, and can install over existing roofs to minimize disruption. They're familiar with Startup's permit process and local building department requirements. Local service means faster response, warranty support from someone who knows the region, and installation that accounts for our specific weather patterns—not a generic crew parachuted in for a job.

Is metal roofing better for the environment than asphalt?

Significantly. Interlock's aluminum is approximately 95% recyclable; at end of life (or if you replace it in 50+ years), it returns to the scrap stream with real value. Asphalt shingles end up in landfills—Startup's annual rainfall and freeze-thaw cycles mean you'll replace asphalt three times before one metal roof needs renewal. Each tear-off and replacement drives more waste to landfill. Aluminum breaks the cycle: one installation, one removal decades later, then recycling. The material itself requires no tar, no petroleum volatiles, and avoids the embodied emissions of repeated replacements. For a 2710 sunshine-hour climate like ours, energy-efficient colors also reduce cooling load year-round.

Is a metal roof a good choice for Startup’s climate?

Yes. Startup averages about 203 cm of snow, 1927 mm of rain, roughly 36 freeze–thaw days a year, with peak wind gusts near 127 km/h. Interlock® aluminum roofing is wind-rated to 193+ km/h (120 mph), UL 2218 Class 4 impact-rated and Class A fire-rated, and its four-way interlocking panels shed snow and resist ice dams and freeze–thaw cracking — all backed by a lifetime limited, transferable warranty.
