Review: October 14, 2025

We recently had our roof replaced with interlock aluminum shingles and we love how it made our house stand out in our neighborhood. I would have given 5 stars but there were few things that I wanted to point out. Ross arrived on time and did an excellent presentation. I specifically asked him if their installers are contractors and his answer was no, they are employees of interlock. Turns out they are contractors which is no big deal as long as they do excellent work, it’s all about honesty. Prior to installation, the installers told me that it would take about two and a half days to finish which is great, I said no rush. The installation process took two weeks, I hope everything will go well this coming rainy season. The only thing I didn’t like was at the end of the day they leave their tools in the driveway just laying around and the worst they leave their microwave plugged into the outlet with damaged power cord. But with all things said, we love our new roof and only time will tell if it was worth the price.

Review: August 23, 2025

We recently had our roof replaced with aluminum shingles and are very satisfied so far. - Easy Sales Process – Thank you Ross for making everything clear and straightforward from the start. - Great Value – The price was very reasonable compared to other estimates. - Better Than Expected – The finished look exceeded our expectations and really improved the appearance of our home. It’s not as glossy as we feared, which we like. - Fast & Efficient – The crew worked quickly and finished everything in just 2 days for our ~1,000 sq. ft. house with two layers of old shingles. - No Issues – No noise at all, despite common concerns about metal roofs. Tip for others: Ask for the exact model and size of vents that will be installed before the project starts. Our vents were only a few months old but couldn’t be reused, and the ones the company brought were the wrong size. The crew had to buy replacements last minute, which worked but don’t perfectly match.

Metal Roofing FAQs for Homeowners in Silverton

The following metal roofing FAQs are designed specifically for homeowners in Silverton, Washington. Whether you are building a new home or replacing an existing roof, understanding how roofing materials perform in local weather conditions is essential. From wind and storm protection to fire resistance, hail impact, snow loads, and coastal moisture exposure, Interlock’s Lifetime Aluminum Roofing System is engineered to provide long-term durability, energy efficiency, and peace of mind in Silverton.

How does a metal roof handle Silverton's heavy snow and ice?

Metal roofs shed snow and ice far better than asphalt because the smooth, hard surface prevents ice dams from forming. Silverton gets about 203 cm of snow annually plus roughly 36 freeze-thaw cycles per year—conditions that crack and curl asphalt shingles. Interlock's four-way interlocking aluminum panels stay locked tight through those cycles. If you need snow guards to prevent slides onto walkways, they install easily. The lightweight design (Cedar Shingle at 0.41 lb/sq ft) means no structural reinforcement, even when snow accumulates.

Does heavy rain leak through a metal roof?

No. Silverton receives about 1927 mm of annual rainfall, and metal roofs handle it with no leaks when installed to spec. The four-way interlocking panels overlap so water always sheds downward and outward—there's no flat grain for water to wick into like asphalt. Your installer will use metal flashing at valleys and penetrations and solid decking with underlayment underneath (the same as asphalt roofing) so water that somehow got past the panels has nowhere to go but down and out the gutters. The result: zero water intrusion.

Why is aluminum better than steel roofing in a rainy climate?

Aluminum cannot rust because it contains no iron. Instead, it forms a microscopic oxide layer that actually self-heals when scratched—making it ideal for Snohomish County's wet climate. Our panels use roofing-grade 3105-H24 and 3003-H24 aluminum alloy (ASTM B209), and they're coated with Alunar 70% PVDF fluorocarbon finish on both sides, warranted 30 years against chalking and fading. Steel roofing rusts from the inside out within 10–15 years in rain-heavy regions. Aluminum installed since 1998 from coastal salt-air homes to Antarctic research stations proves it outlasts steel by decades.

Will my homeowner's insurance cover hail damage to a metal roof?

Interlock achieves UL 2218 Class 4 impact rating—the highest available—and the warranty even covers perforation from hailstones up to 1.5 inches. That level of impact resistance often qualifies you for insurance discounts because hail claims drop dramatically. When you file a claim, show your insurer the UL 2218 Class 4 rating and the Guardian Warranty coverage. Many carriers reduce premiums or waive deductibles for Class 4-rated roofs. Contact your agent with those specs, and they'll confirm your discount eligibility. Over a 50-year lifespan, those savings compound substantially.

Can a metal roof withstand Silverton's wind gusts?

Yes. Silverton's typical gusts reach 127 km/h, and Interlock panels are warranted to resist wind speeds up to 120 mph (193 km/h) when installed to specification. The four-way interlocking design locks each panel to its neighbors on all sides, so wind has no edge to catch and peel. Unlike asphalt shingles that lift and separate, these panels work as one unified system. The interlocking geometry plus the lightweight aluminum (no extra weight fighting uplift) mean your roof stays put in severe weather—and that performance is backed by a warranty.

Will I need to reinforce my roof structure for a metal roof?

No reinforcement needed. The Mediterranean Tile profile is about 96% lighter than concrete or clay tile, and even the heavier Shake installs at just 0.58 lb/sq ft—roughly the weight of asphalt shingles. Because aluminum weighs so little, Interlock installs directly over your existing roof in most cases, eliminating the tear-off labor and landfill cost. Structural engineers approve it because the load is negligible. You avoid expensive framing work while getting a roof that lasts 50+ years instead of 15–20.

What does Interlock's lifetime warranty actually cover?

The Guardian Warranty is a lifetime limited, non-prorated material warranty for you as the original owner—covering rusting, rotting, splitting, cracking, curling, and loss of impact resistance. It transfers once to the next owner for 50 years from completion, which means your roof holds value through ownership changes. With Snohomish County's 203 cm annual snow, 1927 mm rain, and 36 freeze-thaw days per year, that non-prorated guarantee matters: you're protected against the exact failures that destroy asphalt (curling, cracking) and wood (rotting, splitting) in wet climates. No proration means no depreciation of coverage over time.

How much maintenance does a metal roof require?

Virtually none. Unlike asphalt shingles that require repairs every few years or wood shakes that need annual inspection and treatment, Interlock aluminum panels are CALGreen-verified for reduced maintenance. No algae grows on aluminum (no organic material), no curling, no moss—even with Silverton's roughly 2710 annual sunshine hours and wet winters. Your only job is clearing gutters twice yearly. Metal roofing ends the cycle of patching, sealing, and premature replacement. Over 50 years, maintenance-free operation saves thousands in labor and materials compared to asphalt or wood.

Is metal roofing actually more environmentally responsible?

Yes. Interlock panels are approximately 95% recyclable aluminum—when your roof eventually reaches end of life (in 50+ years), the material returns to the recycling stream rather than a landfill. By contrast, an asphalt roof generates a tear-off every 15–20 years, and that waste stays in the dump. Over five decades, you'd tear off three asphalt roofs while metal roofing produces zero waste. The energy to recycle aluminum is a fraction of the energy to produce new asphalt shingles repeatedly. Choose metal once and you've eliminated decades of roofing waste from your home's environmental footprint.
