I really really want to love my roof, I really do, and I'm almost there, only time will tell for sure. Roofs are an expensive investment literally on your most important asset. You need to have a product you can trust installed correctly to protect you, your assets in the home, and your family. You have choices on what kind of roof to put on and costs all over the place. Interlock aluminum roofing is not cheap, was not the most expensive quote I got, nor the lowest. The things that sold me were material, as aluminum will not rust, and being in Washington state, we get rain often so this was a factor. And then their warranty claims, which sadly I was lied directly to my face by their sales reps. Now don't get me wrong, their warranty is still very good, it was represented to me as even better than it actually is which really pisses me off. Had the sales reps told me the truth, I think I'd still have gone with their product because as I said their warranty is still very good. I hope the product does its job and I never have to use the warranty, that's the real goal here. Better communication, when crew was to arrive, when they would leave, if they leave will they return again that day.

Metal Roofing FAQs for Homeowners in Canyon Creek

The following metal roofing FAQs are designed specifically for homeowners in Canyon Creek, Washington. Whether you are building a new home or replacing an existing roof, understanding how roofing materials perform in local weather conditions is essential. From wind and storm protection to fire resistance, hail impact, snow loads, and coastal moisture exposure, Interlock’s Lifetime Aluminum Roofing System is engineered to provide long-term durability, energy efficiency, and peace of mind in Canyon Creek.

How does a metal roof handle Canyon Creek's snow and ice?

Aluminum panels shed snow and ice more effectively than asphalt because their smooth, hard surface prevents ice dams from forming. Canyon Creek receives about 52 cm of snow annually with roughly 58 freeze-thaw cycles per year — conditions that crack and curl asphalt shingles over time. Interlock's four-way interlocking design and structural lightness mean no snow load requires costly reinforcement. Optional snow guards let you control slide-off timing. The non-absorbent aluminum surface resists the damage that freeze-thaw cycling inflicts on materials that trap moisture.

Will freeze-thaw cycles damage aluminum roofing?

No. Aluminum cannot rust or rot, so it resists freeze-thaw damage at its core. Canyon Creek experiences about 58 freeze-thaw days per year, which causes asphalt to crack and wooden shakes to split as moisture penetrates and expands. Roofing-grade 3105-H24 aluminum alloy (ASTM B209) contains no iron and forms a self-healing oxide layer that protects against corrosion. The Alunar 70% PVDF coating is warranted 30 years against chalk and fade, even under repeated temperature swings. Wood and asphalt degrade; aluminum stays intact.

Can metal roofing withstand the wind gusts we get here?

Yes, guaranteed. Canyon Creek's typical wind gusts reach 96 km/h, with the warranty covering wind speeds up to 120 mph (193 km/h) when installed to spec. The four-way interlocking panels lock together mechanically — there's no adhesive to fail or shingles to lift. Each panel's edges grip the adjacent panel, distributing wind load across the entire roof system rather than concentrating it at fasteners. UL 2218 Class 4 impact rating and mechanical interlock make wind resistance inherent to the design, not dependent on caulk or underlayment degradation.

Is aluminum roofing light enough to install over my existing roof?

Yes. The Interlock Slate installs at roughly 0.41 pounds per square foot, and even the heavier Tile profile weighs only about 0.59 lb/sq ft — approximately 96% lighter than concrete or clay tile. Most existing roof structures handle this weight without reinforcement. You avoid the cost and disruption of a complete tear-off; the new roof installs directly over your old one. Canyon Creek's typical daily-maximum winds are about 14 km/h, so lateral forces on a light roof are minimal compared to traditional tile or slate. Your structural engineer can confirm your specific framing can support it, but the aluminum's minimal mass makes that approval far more likely than with heavy alternatives.

Why doesn't aluminum rust like steel roofing does?

Aluminum cannot rust because it contains no iron. Rust is iron oxide, which forms when iron corrodes. Roofing-grade 3105-H24 and 3003-H24 aluminum alloy (ASTM B209) forms aluminum oxide on its surface — a thin, invisible layer that actually protects the metal beneath. When scratched, this oxide layer self-heals. The Alunar 70% PVDF fluorocarbon coating is applied to both sides for extra protection, especially important in salt air or corrosive environments. Interlock has installed panels from coastal homes to an Antarctic research station since 1998. In Canyon Creek's 1372 mm annual rainfall climate, the non-corrosive nature of aluminum outlasts any iron-based alternative by decades.

How much maintenance does a metal roof actually need?

Minimal. Aluminum doesn't require the biannual cleaning, moss treatment, or shingle replacement that asphalt demands. It won't split like wood or crack like clay tile. Rinse debris occasionally and inspect fasteners annually — that's routine. Canyon Creek's 2907 annual sunshine hours and 1372 mm rain provide natural cleaning. The CALGreen-verified design explicitly reduces maintenance burden. Asphalt roofs need coating touch-ups, shingle sealing, and gutter protection within 5–10 years; aluminum's non-porous, non-absorbent surface sheds water and UV without degradation. The 30-year Alunar coating warranty covers chalk and fade — your color stays true without repainting.

Can metal roofing help lower cooling costs?

Yes, energy-efficient colors with thermal emissivity of 0.84 and initial solar reflectance up to 0.55 reflect heat that asphalt absorbs. Canyon Creek's mean temperature is 10.2°C and 2907 sunshine hours annually, so summer cooling matters. Cool Roof Rating Council certification confirms the reflective benefit. Even in a cool climate, reducing attic heat means your AC and ventilation fans work less. The aluminum's smooth surface sheds absorbed heat rather than storing it. Metal roofs don't degrade like asphalt under UV, so reflectance stays consistent. If you're installing in summer or on a south-facing slope, the energy benefit compounds over the 50-year transfer warranty term.

Is metal roofing actually cheaper than buying asphalt three times?

Yes. Asphalt roofs typically last 15–20 years; you'll replace one twice before a metal roof needs replacement. Aluminum installed at 0.41–0.59 lb/sq ft requires no structural upgrade, cutting installation cost. No tear-off disposal fees compound savings. Current regional promotion: no payments and no interest until Spring 2027, or 10% off installation. The Guardian lifetime limited warranty (non-prorated for the original owner, then 50 years transferable) means no surprise failures. Asphalt requires gutter cleaning, algae treatment, and routine repairs starting year 5. Over 50 years, aluminum's combination of zero maintenance, zero replacement cycles, and zero repairs outpaces three asphalt cycles plus ongoing costs.

Is aluminum roofing actually more sustainable than asphalt?

Yes. Aluminum is approximately 95% recyclable; at end of life, your roof becomes raw material for new products. Asphalt roofs end up in landfills — about 11 million tons annually in North America. Interlock has manufactured roofing since 1998 in Delta, BC, using established recycling infrastructure. The lightweight aluminum design means fewer trucks needed for transport, reducing carbon in logistics. Canyon Creek's 1372 mm annual rainfall and 52 cm snow load the roof — durable aluminum handles these stresses without needing replacement, whereas asphalt's absorption and freeze-thaw damage force tear-offs every 15–20 years. One 50-year aluminum roof eliminates three asphalt tear-off cycles from local landfills. Recyclability plus durability makes aluminum the environmentally honest choice.

Can I get the look of slate, shake, or tile with a metal roof?

Yes. Interlock offers five profiles: Slate, Cedar Shingle, Shake, Mediterranean Tile, and Standing Seam. Each replicates traditional aesthetics in aluminum. Slate and Shake suit Pacific Northwest homes; Mediterranean Tile adds character to modern designs; Cedar Shingle bridges both. The lightweight Tile profile is about 96% lighter than actual clay or concrete tile, so it installs without structural reinforcement — a genuine advantage over slate or shake-appearance asphalt shingles. All profiles lock four ways, shed 1372 mm of annual Canyon Creek rainfall identically, and carry the same 30-year Alunar coating warranty. Choose the profile that matches your home's style; you're not trading aesthetics for durability. Interlock Metal Roofing (PNW) Inc. can show samples and help match your home's character.
