Interlock® Aluminum Roofing — all-climates performance specs for Arlington Heights, Washington
| Spec / Rating | Climate / Risk Factor + What It Solves |
|---|---|
| Wind resistance: 120+ mph (193+ kph) | Extreme wind, hurricanes, storm uplift: full interlocking attachment helps prevent blow-offs, edge lifting, and panel loss in high-gust events. |
| Fire rating: Class A (with proper assembly) | Wildfire, embers, radiant heat, chimney sparks: non-combustible roof assembly provides the highest residential fire protection rating. |
| Hail resistance: UL 2218 Class 4 | Hail and impact debris: highest impact classification; resists cracking, splitting, and surface loss common with asphalt under hail strikes. |
| Snow & ice performance: interlocking, shedding profile | Heavy snow, freeze-thaw, ice dams: smooth aluminum sheds snow efficiently and the interlocking design helps block water intrusion when melt-refreeze cycles occur. (Final snow-load capacity depends on roof structure and local code.) |

What our customers are saying:
Clean up when you are done!!!
I really really want to love my roof, I really do, and I'm almost there, only time will tell for sure. Roofs are an expensive investment literally on your most important asset. You need to have a product you can trust installed correctly to protect you, your assets in the home, and your family. You have choices on what kind of roof to put on and costs all over the place. Interlock aluminum roofing is not cheap, was not the most expensive quote I got, nor the lowest. The things that sold me were material, as aluminum will not rust, and being in Washington state, we get rain often so this was a factor. And then their warranty claims, which sadly I was lied directly to my face by their sales reps. Now don't get me wrong, their warranty is still very good, it was represented to me as even better than it actually is which really pisses me off. Had the sales reps told me the truth, I think I'd still have gone with their product because as I said their warranty is still very good. I hope the product does its job and I never have to use the warranty, that's the real goal here. Better communication, when crew was to arrive, when they would leave, if they leave will they return again that day.
Client Service
Interclock could have improved on time to complete the project. There were about 4 days when the weather was favorable but no worker showed up to do any work. There was no communication from Interlock as for the reason why. The price increase from 46k to 48k was unexpected. We were determined to go with Interlock for a new roof but an opportunity to refinance our home from 5/1 ARM to fixed rate presented itself so took care of that first. Also, it would have been nice to have a final walk-through at the completion of the project before the final payment.
Why doesn't Interlock offer a color brochure (competitors do).
The job site foreman should arrive with the work crew on the first day to go over the details of the project.
I think they need to have safety equipment and training for the installers. They need more people on a crew and they need to take a good look at the installers before they hire them. I think they need to take a better look at the installers they hire. I wasn't happy that they didn't have the proper safety requirements in place. This left me as the home owner in a very bad place if someone gets hurt on my property. I am happy with the roof now that it is done.
More financing options should be available with lower interest rates, 9% would be much more attractive than 13%.
I am sold on the quality of Interlock products but have read reviews and issues with the installation or craftsmanship in Hawaii and some other places. I am counting on lifetime warranty from Interlock and good customer service from my initial contacts. Before filling out this survey I was thinking about how to coordinate the replacement of skylights. I have the model in mind for four 2 X 4 & one 2 x 2 skylights, and one solar tube. The chimney for the furnace also need to be replaced. I still have some question about flashing or warranty if these parts leak.

Metal Roofing FAQs for Homeowners in Arlington Heights
The following metal roofing FAQs are designed specifically for homeowners in Arlington Heights, Washington. Whether you are building a new home or replacing an existing roof, understanding how roofing materials perform in local weather conditions is essential. From wind and storm protection to fire resistance, hail impact, snow loads, and coastal moisture exposure, Interlock’s Lifetime Aluminum Roofing System is engineered to provide long-term durability, energy efficiency, and peace of mind in Arlington Heights.
Does metal roofing handle heavy snow and ice in Washington?
Yes—Interlock's four-way interlocking aluminum panels are engineered to support snow load while its smooth surface and light weight (Slate at 0.41 lb/sq ft) actually prevent ice dam formation better than asphalt. Arlington Heights receives about 52 cm of snow annually and experiences roughly 58 freeze-thaw cycles per year. The panels' non-porous aluminum alloy won't absorb moisture that refreezes, and optional snow guards keep snow from sliding unpredictably. Unlike asphalt, which degrades faster under repeated freeze-thaw stress, aluminum's oxide layer self-heals and remains stable through thousands of cycles.
How does metal roofing prevent leaks with all that rain in Snohomish County?
The four-way interlocking system and overlapping panel design channel water away before it reaches seams; Arlington Heights averages about 1372 mm of rain annually, and Interlock panels are tested and warranted to handle sustained heavy rainfall without penetration. Each panel interlocks on four sides, eliminating exposed fasteners that traditionally cause leaks. Installation over a solid deck with proper underlayment—which Interlock Metal Roofing (PNW) Inc. has performed since 1997—creates a redundant water barrier. The ICC-ES evaluation report ESR-1790 certifies the system meets IBC/IRC standards for water resistance.
Will freeze-thaw cycling crack or damage an aluminum metal roof?
No. Aluminum doesn't absorb water, so it cannot freeze inside the material and expand—the root cause of cracking in asphalt and wood. With approximately 58 freeze-thaw days per year in Arlington Heights, this resistance is a significant durability advantage. The 3105-H24 / 3003-H24 aluminum alloy (ASTM B209) maintains its structural integrity through thousands of cycles because expansion/contraction happens uniformly across the panel surface without internal ice formation. The Guardian warranty covers cracking and curling over the homeowner's lifetime, offering peace of mind through decades of Pacific Northwest winters.
Why does aluminum roof never rust, and why does that matter here?
Aluminum cannot rust because it contains no iron—rust occurs only when iron oxidizes. Instead, aluminum forms a thin, self-healing oxide layer that continuously repairs itself when scratched. The Alunar 70% PVDF fluorocarbon finish (warranted 30 years against chalking and fading per ASTM D4214/D2244) is applied to both sides of every panel, providing extra protection in coastal and maritime climates. Arlington Heights' annual rainfall of about 1372 mm and nearby salt air mean corrosion resistance matters; steel roofing would require constant maintenance to prevent rust staining, while Interlock aluminum improves with age and weathers gracefully.
Can metal roofing withstand Snohomish County wind and storms?
Interlock's four-way interlocking panels are warranted to resist wind speeds up to 120 mph (193 km/h) when installed to specification. Arlington Heights experiences typical daily-max winds around 14 km/h but gusts reaching 96 km/h—well within the system's capacity. The interlocking design distributes wind loads across multiple panels rather than concentrating stress on fasteners, which is why traditional roofing fails first at attachment points. The Guardian warranty explicitly covers wind damage, and Interlock Metal Roofing (PNW) Inc. installs panels with engineered fastening patterns that have proven effective across decades of regional storms.
Is metal roofing light enough to install over my existing roof without reinforcement?
Yes. Interlock Mediterranean Tile weighs about 0.59 lb/sq ft—approximately 96% lighter than concrete or clay tile—so most existing roofs can support an overlay without structural upgrades. By contrast, traditional tile requires substantial framing reinforcement that costs thousands of dollars. Interlock's Shake profile weighs only about 0.58 lb/sq ft, allowing installation directly over asphalt shingles in most homes. This lightweight advantage accelerates installation timelines and eliminates the labor-intensive tear-off and disposal process. Interlock Metal Roofing (PNW) Inc. evaluates each roof on-site to confirm load capacity before proceeding.
Do reflective metal roofs really lower cooling costs in rainy climates?
Yes, but the benefit extends beyond cooling. energy-efficient Interlock colors achieve solar reflectance up to 0.55 and thermal emissivity of 0.84, meaning they reflect heat that asphalt shingles absorb and re-radiate into your home. In Arlington Heights, with about 2907 sunshine hours annually spread across 1372 mm of rain, those sunny days matter—a reflective roof reduces peak summer temperatures and HVAC load. Even in winter, the emissivity rating helps stabilize interior warmth, reducing heating cycling. Cool Roof Rating Council certification confirms these performance metrics. Over a 50-year roof lifespan, the energy savings compound significantly.
What makes Interlock's warranty different, and how long does the roof actually last?
The Guardian warranty is a lifetime limited, non-prorated material warranty for the original owner—meaning no deductibles, no coverage reductions over time—covering rusting, rotting, splitting, cracking, curling, and loss of impact resistance. It transfers once to the next owner for 50 years from completion, a major resale advantage. The roof itself typically outlasts the warranty language: aluminum manufactured in 1998 still performs identically to panels made today. With no seasonal maintenance demands and negligible material degradation across Arlington Heights' approximately 58 freeze-thaw cycles annually, many homeowners report functional roofs beyond 70 years. That's the last roof you buy.
How much maintenance does a metal roof need compared to asphalt or wood?
Virtually none—that's the core advantage. Asphalt shingles require frequent inspections, granule replacement monitoring, and typically need replacement every 15-20 years. Wood shakes demand annual cleaning, moss treatment, and periodic sealing due to Arlington Heights' damp climate with about 1372 mm annual rainfall. Interlock aluminum is CALGreen-verified for reduced maintenance: the Alunar finish requires no sealant reapplication, won't cup or curl, and the non-porous surface prevents algae and moss colonization. A gentle rinse every few years maintains appearance; that's optional. Over 50 years, the cost difference between zero maintenance and asphalt's ongoing care is substantial.
Is metal roofing truly non-combustible for fire protection?
Yes. Aluminum is a non-combustible material; Class A fire rating is available across Interlock's profiles (Slate, Cedar Shingle, Shake, Standing Seam, Mediterranean Tile), and the metal panels will not ignite or contribute to flame spread. This is verified in the ICC-ES evaluation report ESR-1790 and matters in regions prone to wildfire risk or where insurance companies offer premium reductions for Class A-rated roofs. Unlike asphalt, wood shake, or composite materials, aluminum's fire performance cannot degrade over time—it remains non-combustible at year one and year fifty. In Snohomish County's diverse neighborhoods, this rating can improve insurability and resale appeal, particularly as climate and building-code awareness increases.
