Review: September 16, 2020

We had the Interlock Roof put on our home this month and I am satisfied with the look and performance of the roof so far. The crew completed the roof in a timely fashion, and was very professional! Our neighbors have paid us compliments about the roof. I really look forward to the longevity of the roof. The temperature the week following the installation was in the 80’s, and the roof kept the temperature inside our house at 75. We did not have to run the air conditioning until we reached the 90’s. The temperature inside our garage was approximately 20 degrees cooler than before the roof. To anyone looking to replace his or her roof, I would recommend the Interlock Roofing System!

We would like to commend Interlock for your product and service. Our house is 1572 square foot ranch style home. It took two days to install the new roof. No mess no waste. The installation crew was very polite and professional. They didn’t mind me supervising (watching) or asking questions. Interlock Roofing works as advertised. We have had a wide variety of weather in the last 50 days, heavy rain, " data-wpil-keyword-link="linked">hail, and eighty-degree temperatures. I believe that the Interlock roof system makes my Leaf Guard gutters more efficient in shedding the rain than the old asphalt shingles. We didn’t know it was hailing until we looked out the windows. The house is cooler with this roof on, it does reflect the heat. It is a great long-term investment.

Review: July 21, 2004

Our Interlock Roof has now been installed three weeks and we couldn't be more pleased. Suffice to say we haven't yet experienced the winds and rains of winter, but we are enjoying a much cooler home interior, as advertised. Certainly the compliments we have been receiving from neighbors and passersby have been most positive and rewarding. Our cul-de-sac has five homes, each with a different roof; " data-wpil-keyword-link="linked">shake, tile, wood shingle, comp, and Interlock Aluminum, and needless to say which one stands out the most. Several have even asked if it's a "" data-wpil-keyword-link="linked">slate roof. We've had so many ask about it that I now carry three of the shake shingles around in my car to show people we visit what InterlLock is all about. Needless to say we've become quite an expert at "locking" them together. The installation process was most impressive. We had two neighborhood homes, receive "comp" roofs while ours was being installed. They took about 3 days each to complete. Your installation team of Alex and Viktor Drigailo were here 11 days and what a pleasure and experience it was to observe their work. Just watching the time and care they exercised was sufficient to all that Interlock was a "different" roof. Their work ethic was something to behold and it was indeed our pleasure to have them with us for that period. We've even taken their photographs to remember them by. Thank you all for making our new Interlock roof possible.

Metal Roofing FAQs for Homeowners in Lake Goodwin

The following metal roofing FAQs are designed specifically for homeowners in Lake Goodwin, Washington. Whether you are building a new home or replacing an existing roof, understanding how roofing materials perform in local weather conditions is essential. From wind and storm protection to fire resistance, hail impact, snow loads, and coastal moisture exposure, Interlock’s Lifetime Aluminum Roofing System is engineered to provide long-term durability, energy efficiency, and peace of mind in Lake Goodwin.

How does a metal roof handle Lake Goodwin's snow and ice buildup?

Metal roofs shed snow and ice more effectively than asphalt because the smooth, interlocked aluminum surface resists ice dam formation—critical in a region that sees about 37 cm of snow annually and roughly 31 freeze-thaw cycles per year. The four-way interlocking panels are warranted to withstand wind gusts up to 112 km/h, so snow guards (if desired) stay firmly anchored. Unlike asphalt, which absorbs and traps moisture that accelerates degradation during repeated thaw cycles, aluminum's oxide layer is chemically inert and self-healing, meaning your roof emerges from each winter without cumulative damage.

Why don't aluminum metal roofs rust like steel ones?

Aluminum cannot rust because it contains no iron—rust requires iron and moisture to form. Interlock panels use roofing-grade 3105-H24 and 3003-H24 aluminum alloy (ASTM B209), which develop a microscopically thin, self-healing oxide layer when exposed to air. When scratched, this layer reforms automatically. The Alunar 70% PVDF fluorocarbon coating (applied to both sides) adds a 30-year warranty against chalking and fading, providing extra protection in Lake Goodwin's damp climate where annual rainfall averages 1148 mm. Steel roofs, by contrast, require constant vigilance against rust; aluminum simply cannot degrade that way.

Can a metal roof stay on in Snohomish County windstorms?

Yes—Interlock's four-way interlocking aluminum panels are warranted to resist wind speeds up to 120 mph (193 km/h), well above the typical gusts of 112 km/h recorded in Lake Goodwin. The interlocking design means each panel locks mechanically to its neighbors on all four sides, distributing wind load across the entire roof rather than depending on fasteners alone. This redundant fastening system and the light weight of the panels (Shingle profile at 0.41 lb/sq ft) mean less stress on your roof deck and attachments. Even in the strongest regional gusts, your roof stays secure—and your insurance company will appreciate the engineering.

Do I need to reinforce my home's structure for a metal roof?

No structural reinforcement is needed. Interlock metal shingles weigh as little as 0.41 lb/sq ft, and the Mediterranean Tile profile—despite its heavy appearance—is about 96% lighter than real concrete or clay tile. Most homes can support a metal roof over their existing asphalt shingles without any upgrades, which saves thousands in framing work. This lightweight advantage becomes especially valuable in Lake Goodwin's climate, where the combination of 1148 mm annual rainfall and about 37 cm of snow means your roof carries significant water weight for months. The lower dead load means less structural strain year-round and fewer long-term settlement issues.

Will a metal roof reduce my cooling and heating costs?

energy-efficient Interlock colors with thermal emissivity of 0.84 and solar reflectance up to 0.55 (like Aged Copper Penny) reflect solar heat that asphalt absorbs and radiates into your attic. In Lake Goodwin, where you get about 2898 sunshine hours per year, that reflectivity means lower cooling loads on hot days. The thermal mass of aluminum also moderates temperature swings during the region's roughly 31 freeze-thaw cycles annually, reducing the heating-cooling cycling that wastes energy. Exact savings depend on your home's insulation and orientation, but Cool Roof Rating Council-rated metal roofs consistently outperform dark asphalt in utility bills over time.

Is my roof covered if Lake Goodwin gets hail?

Interlock achieves UL 2218 Class 4 impact rating—the highest available—and the Guardian Warranty even covers perforation from hailstones up to 1.5 inches. Class 4 rating means your roof withstands the same impact energy that destroys asphalt and wood shingles. Many insurance companies recognize this durability and offer discounts on premiums for metal roofs, offsetting some of your material cost. Because hail damage is a common claim in the Pacific Northwest, having a roof that meets the highest impact standard often reduces your risk profile in underwriters' eyes. Check with your insurer about potential rate reductions before installation.

Is a metal roof fire-safe if wildfire smoke reaches the area?

Yes. Aluminum is non-combustible, and Interlock offers Class A fire classification (the highest available). Unlike wood shakes or asphalt shingles that can ignite from radiant heat or flying embers, aluminum will not burn—it simply cannot participate in combustion. ICC-ES evaluation report ESR-1790 (reissued 2025) confirms compliance with International Building Code requirements for fire safety. In Snohomish County, where fire risk exists during dry seasons, a non-combustible roof provides peace of mind and may lower your homeowners insurance premium. Your home's fire safety rating improves measurably when you eliminate the most vulnerable exposure point: the roof.

How much upkeep does a metal roof actually require?

Metal roofs require far less maintenance than asphalt, wood, or tile. You'll never need to replace shingles, treat for algae or moss (common in Lake Goodwin's 1148 mm annual rainfall), or repair splits and curls from freeze-thaw cycling. Periodic gutter cleaning and a visual inspection after severe weather are sufficient. The Alunar 70% PVDF coating is CALGreen-verified for reduced maintenance. Asphalt shingles, by contrast, deteriorate noticeably within 15 years in your damp climate and require partial replacement before roof failure occurs. Tile and wood demand professional intervention every few years. Over a 50-year lifespan, a metal roof saves you thousands in labor and material replacement costs.

Is a metal roof worth the higher upfront cost in Lake Goodwin?

Metal roofing costs more upfront than asphalt—typically 2 to 3 times higher—but the total cost of ownership over the roof's life strongly favors metal. Asphalt lasts 15 to 25 years in Lake Goodwin's wet climate and generates landfill waste; Interlock's lifetime limited Guardian Warranty (non-prorated for the original owner, transferable 50 years to the next owner) means you buy one roof. A 50-year span in this region with 1148 mm annual rainfall and 31 freeze-thaw days per year demands multiple asphalt replacements, each involving tear-off labor, disposal fees, and potential property disruption. Metal eliminates that cycle. When you factor in energy savings, insurance discounts, avoided repairs, and the resale premium for a visible, durable roof, the long-term math heavily favors aluminum—it's truly the last roof you'll install.

How long does installation take, and can it go over my existing roof?

Most Interlock installations complete within 2 to 5 days, depending on roof size and complexity. Because aluminum panels weigh as little as 0.41 lb/sq ft, installation over your existing asphalt shingles is usually possible—no tear-off required, which saves labor, disposal costs, and scheduling delays. Your local installer, Interlock Metal Roofing (PNW) Inc., has served the region since 1997 and understands Snohomish County permitting and weather windows. They'll verify that your existing deck can support the added load (rarely an issue), handle all flashing and trim details per ICC-ESR-1790 standards, and ensure your roof is ready for the region's heavy rainfall and wind gusts. The entire process is faster and less disruptive than traditional roofing tear-offs.
