Interlock® Aluminum Roofing — all-climates performance specs for Lake Ketchum, Washington
| Spec / Rating | Climate / Risk Factor + What It Solves |
|---|---|
| Wind resistance: 120+ mph (193+ kph) | Extreme wind, hurricanes, storm uplift: full interlocking attachment helps prevent blow-offs, edge lifting, and panel loss in high-gust events. |
| Fire rating: Class A (with proper assembly) | Wildfire, embers, radiant heat, chimney sparks: non-combustible roof assembly provides the highest residential fire protection rating. |
| Hail resistance: UL 2218 Class 4 | Hail and impact debris: highest impact classification; resists cracking, splitting, and surface loss common with asphalt under hail strikes. |
| Snow & ice performance: interlocking, shedding profile | Heavy snow, freeze-thaw, ice dams: smooth aluminum sheds snow efficiently and the interlocking design helps block water intrusion when melt-refreeze cycles occur. (Final snow-load capacity depends on roof structure and local code.) |
| Corrosion resistance: aluminum (won’t rust) | Salt air, coastal humidity, wet climates: aluminum naturally resists rust and corrosion, reducing long-term failure risk in marine or high-moisture environments. |
| Heat / UV durability: baked-on coating system | High heat, intense sun, thermal cycling: coatings resist UV breakdown and temperature-swing fatigue, slowing fading and surface degradation. |

What our customers are saying:
We have the InterLock sigh out front and are awaiting the chance for a video flyover. I would hire them again.
The product is fine but it was just the service to put it on the roof that was horrible. We were treated so poorly considering we spent hundreds to thousands of dollars on our roof. They lied to us over and over saying they were going to be there the next day then they don't show up. We call and they bring out one guy. This happened over and over as well. We are not satisfied with the company who sent the workers out because they lied to us but the workers were fine. They could improve on communicating truthfully. They said they would deliver materials on Friday and did not come for about a week.
To Whom It May Concern: It is our pleasure to highly recommend Ross and Interlock Roofing for your next roofing project. Our roof was installed in August of 2017 it’s amazing the performance it provides to our home. The temperature indoors during the summer is cooler allowing energy savings, our Shake profile stands out with lasting beauty and durability. The installation crew is as great as the product they are polite and professional and went above our expectations they answered all our questions with no concerns. Our investment to have Interlock roof on our home gives us Peace of mind knowing for years to come we will never have to worry about our roof again. We would not hesitate to recommend Interlock Roofs and their awesome products to anyone looking for a new roof.
The sales guy was great and I love the product.
Clean up when you are done!!!
I really really want to love my roof, I really do, and I'm almost there, only time will tell for sure. Roofs are an expensive investment literally on your most important asset. You need to have a product you can trust installed correctly to protect you, your assets in the home, and your family. You have choices on what kind of roof to put on and costs all over the place. Interlock aluminum roofing is not cheap, was not the most expensive quote I got, nor the lowest. The things that sold me were material, as aluminum will not rust, and being in Washington state, we get rain often so this was a factor. And then their warranty claims, which sadly I was lied directly to my face by their sales reps. Now don't get me wrong, their warranty is still very good, it was represented to me as even better than it actually is which really pisses me off. Had the sales reps told me the truth, I think I'd still have gone with their product because as I said their warranty is still very good. I hope the product does its job and I never have to use the warranty, that's the real goal here. Better communication, when crew was to arrive, when they would leave, if they leave will they return again that day.
Client Service
Interclock could have improved on time to complete the project. There were about 4 days when the weather was favorable but no worker showed up to do any work. There was no communication from Interlock as for the reason why. The price increase from 46k to 48k was unexpected. We were determined to go with Interlock for a new roof but an opportunity to refinance our home from 5/1 ARM to fixed rate presented itself so took care of that first. Also, it would have been nice to have a final walk-through at the completion of the project before the final payment.

Metal Roofing FAQs for Homeowners in Lake Ketchum
The following metal roofing FAQs are designed specifically for homeowners in Lake Ketchum, Washington. Whether you are building a new home or replacing an existing roof, understanding how roofing materials perform in local weather conditions is essential. From wind and storm protection to fire resistance, hail impact, snow loads, and coastal moisture exposure, Interlock’s Lifetime Aluminum Roofing System is engineered to provide long-term durability, energy efficiency, and peace of mind in Lake Ketchum.
Does metal roofing handle Lake Ketchum's snow and ice buildup?
Yes—Interlock's four-way interlocking aluminum panels shed snow and ice effectively because the smooth, hard surface and tight seams prevent water from pooling into ice dams. With about 43 cm of annual snow and 47 freeze-thaw days per year, your roof experiences constant expansion and contraction; aluminum's non-corrosive properties and engineered profiles resist the stress that cracks asphalt or splits wood. The lightweight design (Slate at 0.41 lb/sq ft) also means no structural strain from snow load, and optional snow guards keep slides off walkways.
How does aluminum roofing hold up to freeze-thaw cycles?
Aluminum is inherently freeze-thaw stable because it contains no iron and cannot rust or rot—the two failure modes that plague other materials through repeated moisture and temperature swings. Lake Ketchum's 47 annual freeze-thaw days would normally cause asphalt to split and wood to warp, but the 3105-H24 aluminum alloy (ASTM B209) expands and contracts uniformly without deteriorating. The Alunar 70% PVDF coating, warranted 30 years against fading and chalking, protects the oxide layer that heals itself when scratched—so even micro-damage from ice doesn't cascade into corrosion.
With 1,300+ mm of rain annually, how does Interlock stay watertight?
The four-way interlocking panels nest together so tightly that water cannot penetrate the seams, and when installed over solid decking with underlayment per ICC-ES ESR-1790, the system delivers asphalt-like leak protection. Lake Ketchum's 1,312 mm annual rainfall is heavy, but the panel geometry and tight tolerances actually work in your favor—water flows off faster than it can pool. Unlike asphalt, which degrades from UV and moisture exposure, or wood shake, which can trap water, Interlock's aluminum surface sheds rain completely and the oxide layer self-heals if scratched, keeping the barrier intact for decades.
Is a metal roof safe in Lake Ketchum's wind gusts?
Completely safe. Interlock panels are warranted to resist wind speeds up to 120 mph (193 km/h) when installed to specification, and Lake Ketchum's typical gusts reach about 100 km/h. The four-way interlocking design locks each panel to its neighbors, distributing wind load across the entire roof so no single panel can lift or separate. This engineering, verified under ICC-ES ESR-1790 (IBC/IRC, 2025), combined with proper fastening, means your roof stays put through the storms that would lift or tear asphalt shingles—a common claim on regional roofs.
Does hail damage a metal roof, and will insurance cover it?
Interlock aluminum roofing carries UL 2218 Class 4 impact rating—the highest available—and the Guardian Warranty even covers perforation from hailstones up to 1.5 inches. Because aluminum flexes rather than cracks, and because the impact resistance is designed into the alloy itself, hail damage is extremely rare; many insurers recognize this and offer discounts. In Snohomish County's severe-weather season, that durability translates to peace of mind and potentially lower premiums compared to asphalt or wood shake, which dent, split, and leak under hail.
What's the real lifespan of an Interlock metal roof?
The Guardian Warranty provides a lifetime limited, non-prorated material warranty for the original owner—covering rusting, rotting, splitting, cracking, curling, and loss of impact resistance. That warranty transfers once to the next owner for 50 years from completion, making it the last roof most homeowners will ever buy. Interlock aluminum has been manufactured since 1998 and installed everywhere from coastal salt-air homes to an Antarctic research station, proving the material outlasts the buildings beneath it. The 30-year Alunar coating warranty (ASTM D4214/D2244 tested) separately covers color and gloss fade.
Why doesn't aluminum rust like steel roofing does?
Aluminum cannot rust because it contains no iron; iron is what oxidizes into rust. Interlock uses roofing-grade 3105-H24 and 3003-H24 aluminum alloy (ASTM B209), which forms an invisible, self-healing oxide layer when exposed to air. When that layer is scratched—by hail, installation, or branch contact—it automatically reforms within hours, sealing the damage before water reaches the metal beneath. Steel roofing, by contrast, requires paint or coating to prevent rust, and once that coating chips (as it does after 10-15 years of Lake Ketchum's 1,312 mm rain and temperature swings), rust spreads rapidly and cannot be stopped.
Can my roof structure handle metal roofing, or do I need reinforcement?
No structural reinforcement is needed. Interlock's Mediterranean Tile profile, which replicates the appearance of heavy clay or concrete tile, weighs only about 0.59 lb/sq ft—roughly 96% lighter than the real thing—and the Slate profile weighs just 0.41 lb/sq ft. Most homes built to support asphalt shingles can be retrofitted with Interlock without any framing upgrades, and the light weight means installation can happen directly over most existing roofs. This advantage compounds in Lake Ketchum's climate, where the combination of 47 annual freeze-thaw cycles and about 43 cm of snow would stress heavier materials; aluminum's minimal loading lets your structure breathe and settle normally.
Does a metal roof reduce cooling costs in summer?
Yes, especially with energy-efficient colors. Interlock offers Cool Roof Rating Council–rated profiles with initial solar reflectance up to 0.55 and thermal emissivity of 0.84, meaning they reflect the heat that asphalt absorbs. Lake Ketchum receives about 2,942 annual sunshine hours, and on clear summer days, a reflective metal roof stays measurably cooler than dark asphalt, reducing air-conditioning load. Unlike asphalt, which darkens over time and loses reflectance, Interlock's Alunar 70% PVDF finish is warranted 30 years against fading—so your cooling benefit persists through decades, not just the first year.
How much maintenance does a metal roof really need?
Metal roofing requires far less maintenance than asphalt, wood, or tile. Asphalt shingles need regular inspection, moss removal, and gutter cleaning after shedding; wood shake demands annual sealing, fungicide treatment, and individual board replacement; clay tile cracks and requires repointing. Interlock aluminum is CALGreen-verified for reduced maintenance—you rinse it off annually if desired, trim overhanging branches to prevent debris pooling, and keep gutters clear. That's it. No sealant reapplication, no storm damage repairs every few years, no algae or moss growth. Over Lake Ketchum's 47 freeze-thaw days and 1,312 mm annual rain, that simplicity saves hundreds of dollars and countless hours compared to materials that deteriorate predictably and demand constant care.
