Interlock® Aluminum Roofing — all-climates performance specs for Hat Island, Washington
| Spec / Rating | Climate / Risk Factor + What It Solves |
|---|---|
| Wind resistance: 120+ mph (193+ kph) | Extreme wind, hurricanes, storm uplift: full interlocking attachment helps prevent blow-offs, edge lifting, and panel loss in high-gust events. |
| Fire rating: Class A (with proper assembly) | Wildfire, embers, radiant heat, chimney sparks: non-combustible roof assembly provides the highest residential fire protection rating. |
| Hail resistance: UL 2218 Class 4 | Hail and impact debris: highest impact classification; resists cracking, splitting, and surface loss common with asphalt under hail strikes. |
| Snow & ice performance: interlocking, shedding profile | Heavy snow, freeze-thaw, ice dams: smooth aluminum sheds snow efficiently and the interlocking design helps block water intrusion when melt-refreeze cycles occur. (Final snow-load capacity depends on roof structure and local code.) |

What our customers are saying:
I am totally pleased with my decision over 10 years ago to go with a 50 year Interlock Metal Roof! It has held up great to the test of time and when I am no longer on this mortal coil, my daughter, granddaughters or grandson will be benefitting from my decision!
Our Interlock Roof has now been installed three weeks and we couldn't be more pleased. Suffice to say we haven't yet experienced the winds and rains of winter, but we are enjoying a much cooler home interior, as advertised. Certainly the compliments we have been receiving from neighbors and passersby have been most positive and rewarding. Our cul-de-sac has five homes, each with a different roof; " data-wpil-keyword-link="linked">shake, tile, wood shingle, comp, and Interlock Aluminum, and needless to say which one stands out the most. Several have even asked if it's a "" data-wpil-keyword-link="linked">slate roof. We've had so many ask about it that I now carry three of the shake shingles around in my car to show people we visit what InterlLock is all about. Needless to say we've become quite an expert at "locking" them together. The installation process was most impressive. We had two neighborhood homes, receive "comp" roofs while ours was being installed. They took about 3 days each to complete. Your installation team of Alex and Viktor Drigailo were here 11 days and what a pleasure and experience it was to observe their work. Just watching the time and care they exercised was sufficient to all that Interlock was a "different" roof. Their work ethic was something to behold and it was indeed our pleasure to have them with us for that period. We've even taken their photographs to remember them by. Thank you all for making our new Interlock roof possible.
We had the Interlock Roof put on our home this month and I am satisfied with the look and performance of the roof so far. The crew completed the roof in a timely fashion, and was very professional! Our neighbors have paid us compliments about the roof. I really look forward to the longevity of the roof. The temperature the week following the installation was in the 80’s, and the roof kept the temperature inside our house at 75. We did not have to run the air conditioning until we reached the 90’s. The temperature inside our garage was approximately 20 degrees cooler than before the roof. To anyone looking to replace his or her roof, I would recommend the Interlock Roofing System!
We would like to commend Interlock for your product and service. Our house is 1572 square foot ranch style home. It took two days to install the new roof. No mess no waste. The installation crew was very polite and professional. They didn’t mind me supervising (watching) or asking questions. Interlock Roofing works as advertised. We have had a wide variety of weather in the last 50 days, heavy rain, " data-wpil-keyword-link="linked">hail, and eighty-degree temperatures. I believe that the Interlock roof system makes my Leaf Guard gutters more efficient in shedding the rain than the old asphalt shingles. We didn’t know it was hailing until we looked out the windows. The house is cooler with this roof on, it does reflect the heat. It is a great long-term investment.

Metal Roofing FAQs for Homeowners in Hat Island
The following metal roofing FAQs are designed specifically for homeowners in Hat Island, Washington. Whether you are building a new home or replacing an existing roof, understanding how roofing materials perform in local weather conditions is essential. From wind and storm protection to fire resistance, hail impact, snow loads, and coastal moisture exposure, Interlock’s Lifetime Aluminum Roofing System is engineered to provide long-term durability, energy efficiency, and peace of mind in Hat Island.
Will metal roofing handle Hat Island's snow and ice the way asphalt does?
Metal roofing sheds snow and ice more effectively than asphalt because the smooth, hard surface and thermal properties prevent ice dam formation. Hat Island receives about 37 cm of snow annually and experiences roughly 31 freeze-thaw cycles per year—conditions that crack and curl asphalt shingles over time. Aluminum panels remain rigid through these cycles; they won't split or curl. The four-way interlocking seams prevent water infiltration even when snow melts and refreezes. Snow guards are available if you want to control shedding, but the roof itself won't be damaged by the freeze-thaw stress that shortens asphalt life.
Why doesn't aluminum roofing rust like steel, and does that matter in Washington?
Aluminum cannot rust because it contains no iron—the element that oxidizes and corrodes. Instead, aluminum forms a microscopically thin oxide layer that self-heals when scratched, protecting the metal underneath indefinitely. This matters deeply in Hat Island's wet marine climate: the region receives 1148 mm of annual rainfall and humid marine air, conditions that accelerate rust on steel roofs within 10-15 years. Interlock uses roofing-grade 3105-H24 aluminum with a two-sided Alunar 70% PVDF fluorocarbon finish, adding 30-year corrosion protection even in salt-air environments. Your roof won't develop the brown streaking or structural thinning that plague steel in coastal Washington.
Can a metal roof handle Hat Island's wind without leaking or lifting?
Hat Island experiences typical daily winds around 17 km/h with gusts reaching 112 km/h, and Interlock metal roofing is warranted to resist wind speeds up to 120 mph (193 km/h) when installed to specification. The four-way interlocking aluminum panels lock together on all edges, creating a unified system that distributes wind load across the entire roof rather than stressing individual fasteners. Each panel is mechanically secured with stainless-steel fasteners through the interlocking seams. This design—combined with ICC-ES evaluation report ESR-1790 compliance—means wind cannot lift panels or force water under the seams. You won't need special reinforcement or bracing; the interlocking geometry itself is the wind defense.
Can my existing roof support a metal roof, or will I need structural work?
Metal roofing is extraordinarily light—the Slate profile installs at roughly 0.41 pounds per square foot, and even the Mediterranean Tile profile, which replicates heavy clay or concrete tile, weighs only about 0.59 lb/sq ft. This is approximately 96% lighter than concrete or clay tile, so no structural reinforcement is needed. Most existing roofs in Hat Island can support metal roofing without modification; many homeowners install it directly over their current asphalt shingles, saving tear-off labor and landfill costs. A structural engineer can confirm your specific framing in minutes. The lightweight aluminum means you avoid expensive joist sistering or rafter bracing that would be required for traditional tile.
How does metal roofing handle Hat Island's heavy rainfall without leaking?
Hat Island's 1148 mm annual rainfall demands reliable water shedding, and the four-way interlocking seams of Interlock metal panels are engineered to channel water away before it can pool or penetrate. Each panel locks to its neighbors on all four edges; water flows down and off the interlocking valleys without entering the seams. The system is installed over a solid deck and underlayment, just like asphalt roofing, creating a proven double defense against the region's heavy rain exposure. ICC-ES evaluation report ESR-1790 confirms the installation meets IBC/IRC standards for weather resistance. With proper installation by a certified local contractor, you won't experience leaks from rainfall, ice damming, or wind-driven moisture—the interlocking geometry itself is the primary water barrier.
Does hail damage metal roofs, and can I get insurance credits?
Interlock metal roofing achieves UL 2218 Class 4 impact rating—the highest classification available—and is even warranted against perforation from hailstones up to 1.5 inches. This exceptional impact resistance comes from the roofing-grade aluminum alloy's hardness and the panel thickness. While Hat Island doesn't experience frequent hail, the Class 4 rating provides complete protection and is recognized by most insurers as a loss-prevention feature. Contact your homeowner insurance agent with the UL 2218 Class 4 specification; many insurers offer premium discounts for Class 4 roofing because claims for impact damage are virtually eliminated. The Guardian warranty covers impact damage separately, giving you dual protection: insurance recognition and manufacturer backing.
Is metal roofing worth the upfront cost compared to asphalt shingles?
Asphalt shingles typically last 15-20 years in Hat Island's wet climate with 1148 mm annual rainfall and 31 freeze-thaw cycles; metal roofing lasts 50+ years or more with a lifetime limited warranty from the original owner (50-year transferable coverage for the next owner). Over 50 years, a typical house replaces asphalt shingles 2-3 times, plus tear-off and disposal costs—often totaling $15,000-25,000. Metal roofing has one installation cost, zero tear-offs, and ends the asphalt-to-landfill cycle. The Guardian warranty covers rust, rot, cracking, curling, and impact loss—risks that trigger claims on asphalt roofs regularly. Current financing is available: no payments and no interest until Spring 2027, or 10% off installation. Lower maintenance and no premature failure make metal the financially smarter roof over the life of your home.
How much maintenance does a metal roof need compared to asphalt or wood?
Metal roofing requires minimal maintenance: annual gutter cleaning and occasional debris removal are sufficient. Asphalt shingles in Hat Island's climate shed granules in the rain, clog gutters, develop algae and moss, and require treatment or power washing. Wood shakes split, rot, and need professional maintenance every few years—costly in a region with 1148 mm rain and 31 freeze-thaw days annually. Interlock aluminum with Alunar 70% PVDF coating doesn't splinter, rot, or absorb moisture; the two-sided coating resists chalking and fading for 30 years (ASTM D4214/D2244 standard). The roof is CALGreen-verified for reduced maintenance. Gutters stay cleaner longer because metal doesn't shed or break down. Over 50 years, you'll spend a fraction of the time and money maintaining a metal roof versus asphalt or wood—one reason homeowners call it the last roof they'll install.
Is metal roofing better for the environment than asphalt?
Metal roofing breaks the asphalt tear-off-to-landfill cycle: roughly 95% of Interlock aluminum is recyclable at end of life, and the panels are manufactured in Delta, BC to ICC-ES ESR-1790 standards. Asphalt shingles are torn off every 15-20 years in Hat Island's wet climate (1148 mm annual rainfall accelerates deterioration), generating tons of landfill waste per home. Metal roofing eliminates this waste stream for the original owner and transferable to one additional owner (50 years total). Many installers can recycle old metal roofing; almost no facility accepts asphalt shingles. The lightweight aluminum also reduces manufacturing energy compared to ceramic tile or concrete tile—materials that would require structural reinforcement on your existing framing. Installing metal over your existing roof (no tear-off) further reduces environmental impact and labor waste.
Who installs metal roofing in Hat Island, and how long have they been serving the area?
Interlock Metal Roofing (PNW) Inc. has served the Snohomish County region since 1997, bringing 27+ years of experience installing in Hat Island's wet marine climate (1148 mm annual rainfall, frequent freeze-thaw cycles over 31 days per year, and gusts to 112 km/h). The local team understands the technical details of four-way interlocking aluminum installation in high-wind, high-moisture conditions and can confirm whether your existing structure supports installation without reinforcement. They handle all aspects: site evaluation, roof removal if needed, installation over existing roofing, and warranty registration for The Guardian lifetime limited coverage.
