Interlock® Aluminum Roofing — all-climates performance specs for Swede Heaven, Washington
| Spec / Rating | Climate / Risk Factor + What It Solves |
|---|---|
| Wind resistance: 120+ mph (193+ kph) | Extreme wind, hurricanes, storm uplift: full interlocking attachment helps prevent blow-offs, edge lifting, and panel loss in high-gust events. |
| Fire rating: Class A (with proper assembly) | Wildfire, embers, radiant heat, chimney sparks: non-combustible roof assembly provides the highest residential fire protection rating. |
| Hail resistance: UL 2218 Class 4 | Hail and impact debris: highest impact classification; resists cracking, splitting, and surface loss common with asphalt under hail strikes. |
| Snow & ice performance: interlocking, shedding profile | Heavy snow, freeze-thaw, ice dams: smooth aluminum sheds snow efficiently and the interlocking design helps block water intrusion when melt-refreeze cycles occur. (Final snow-load capacity depends on roof structure and local code.) |
| Corrosion resistance: aluminum (won’t rust) | Salt air, coastal humidity, wet climates: aluminum naturally resists rust and corrosion, reducing long-term failure risk in marine or high-moisture environments. |
| Heat / UV durability: baked-on coating system | High heat, intense sun, thermal cycling: coatings resist UV breakdown and temperature-swing fatigue, slowing fading and surface degradation. |

What our customers are saying:
Prompt service and very knowledgeable. Highly recommend.
My wife and I wanted a long-term roof and I think we found it. The product seems very good and are installer Daniel was terrific and a trooper put a lot of hours and a lot of time and made it look real nice when it was completed. I would recommend the company if you're looking for a metal roof.
Ivan Excellent will make it right!!
We needed a roof repair when our neighbors tree dropped a large limb through our roof. Ivan came And accessed The damage, Ordered the sheets we needed. He came back and did the whole Repair himself. So happy to have it fixed along with his recommendations to have the roof cleaned. We appreciate his skills in repairing The roof.
The Interlock associate Ivan, came did an awesome service in correcting the part needed to be corrected, he left us with instructions of what we needed to check and to get in touch with, if needed 😀 Ms. May the associate answering the phone was helpful for us to get prompt service. They are dependable. We received roof service.
The work was efficient and well done. The service, the people and team were great. Beautiful roof.
I highly appreciate the professionalism, workmanship and the quality of materials used. I don't doubt that it will be our forever roof and will not need to worry about replacement during the life of our house. Ross, Tony, Roma were all great throughout the new roof installation process.
We noticed water spots on the ceiling. Ivan came, found a hole likely caused by a branch in the recent wind storm. He repaired the hole on the spot. Thank you Ivan!
Ivan replaced our exhaust vent on the roof that had some leaking issue. We were impressed with his professionalism, courtesy and fixing the problem to our utmost satisfaction. We certainly would recommend him and the company for any roofing issues being it a new roof or repairs.
We recently had our roof replaced with interlock aluminum shingles and we love how it made our house stand out in our neighborhood. I would have given 5 stars but there were few things that I wanted to point out. Ross arrived on time and did an excellent presentation. I specifically asked him if their installers are contractors and his answer was no, they are employees of interlock. Turns out they are contractors which is no big deal as long as they do excellent work, it’s all about honesty. Prior to installation, the installers told me that it would take about two and a half days to finish which is great, I said no rush. The installation process took two weeks, I hope everything will go well this coming rainy season. The only thing I didn’t like was at the end of the day they leave their tools in the driveway just laying around and the worst they leave their microwave plugged into the outlet with damaged power cord. But with all things said, we love our new roof and only time will tell if it was worth the price.
Excellent contact and coordination with field representatives and installers/project manager.
We recently had our roof replaced with aluminum shingles and are very satisfied so far. - Easy Sales Process – Thank you Ross for making everything clear and straightforward from the start. - Great Value – The price was very reasonable compared to other estimates. - Better Than Expected – The finished look exceeded our expectations and really improved the appearance of our home. It’s not as glossy as we feared, which we like. - Fast & Efficient – The crew worked quickly and finished everything in just 2 days for our ~1,000 sq. ft. house with two layers of old shingles. - No Issues – No noise at all, despite common concerns about metal roofs. Tip for others: Ask for the exact model and size of vents that will be installed before the project starts. Our vents were only a few months old but couldn’t be reused, and the ones the company brought were the wrong size. The crew had to buy replacements last minute, which worked but don’t perfectly match.

Metal Roofing FAQs for Homeowners in Swede Heaven
The following metal roofing FAQs are designed specifically for homeowners in Swede Heaven, Washington. Whether you are building a new home or replacing an existing roof, understanding how roofing materials perform in local weather conditions is essential. From wind and storm protection to fire resistance, hail impact, snow loads, and coastal moisture exposure, Interlock’s Lifetime Aluminum Roofing System is engineered to provide long-term durability, energy efficiency, and peace of mind in Swede Heaven.
How does a metal roof handle Snohomish County's heavy snow and ice buildup?
Interlock's four-way interlocking aluminum panels shed snow and ice efficiently because the smooth, hard surface prevents adhesion better than asphalt shingles do. With about 412 cm of snow annually and roughly 62 freeze-thaw cycles per year, your roof faces constant expansion stress — aluminum's non-corrosive nature means the material won't weaken under that cycling, and ice dams have far less grip on metal than on traditional roofing. Snow guards can be installed if you prefer controlled shedding, but the slope and surface finish naturally encourage movement. Your local Interlock Metal Roofing (PNW) Inc. installer, serving the region since 1997, knows exactly how to configure your roof for Snohomish County winters.
Will freeze-thaw cycles damage an aluminum metal roof over time?
No — aluminum actually thrives in freeze-thaw climates. Unlike asphalt shingles, which become brittle and crack under about 62 annual freeze-thaw days like Snohomish County experiences, roofing-grade 3105-H24 aluminum alloy expands and contracts without losing integrity or developing stress fractures. The Alunar 70% PVDF fluorocarbon coating, warranted 30 years against chalking and fading, protects the metal itself, while aluminum's self-healing oxide layer resists the micro-damage that salt air and moisture cycles create. With roughly 1630 mm of annual rainfall plus snow melt, your roof is constantly wet and freezing — conditions where aluminum stays strong while other materials degrade.
Does Interlock's interlocking design really keep out 1600+ mm of rain per year?
Yes. The four-way interlocking panel system creates a labyrinth that sheds water downslope before it can penetrate seams. Snohomish County receives approximately 1630 mm of annual rainfall — more than most U.S. regions — and the overlapping, mechanical lock on all four edges (not tape, not caulk, not sealant) has been proven across 25+ years of installations in coastal salt-air environments and beyond. Water must flow against gravity and through multiple barriers to leak, which is why the system earns Class A fire ratings and ICC-ES ESR-1790 compliance. The Guardian warranty covers leak damage, offering original-owner peace of mind in one of the Pacific Northwest's wettest counties.
Why does aluminum never rust, and why does that matter in Snohomish County?
Aluminum cannot rust because it contains no iron — iron is what oxidizes into rust. Instead, aluminum develops a thin, invisible oxide layer that actually protects the metal underneath. Crucially, when that layer is scratched (by hail, installation, or weathering), it self-heals in the presence of air and moisture, a process that repeats automatically throughout the roof's life. Snohomish County's 1630 mm annual rainfall and 62 freeze-thaw cycles create constant moisture exposure — exactly the conditions where steel roofing corrodes from the inside out, even under a coating. Interlock's roofing-grade 3105-H24 and 3003-H24 aluminum alloy, finished on both sides with Alunar 70% PVDF, simply cannot fail this way, which is why the Guardian warranty covers rust for the original owner's lifetime.
How well does an aluminum metal roof hold up to Snohomish County's wind gusts?
Interlock's four-way interlocking aluminum panels are warranted to resist wind speeds up to 120 mph when installed to specification. Snohomish County's typical gusts reach about 109 km/h (68 mph), with occasional stronger events — your roof will handle those with engineering margin to spare. The mechanical locking system (not fasteners alone) distributes wind loads across multiple panels, so a single gust cannot lift a corner or edge. Unlike shingle roofing, which tears from gusts that would barely stress metal panels, Interlock's design assumes high-wind exposure from the ground up. Your local installer, Interlock Metal Roofing (PNW) Inc., has been installing roofs in this region since 1997 and understands the specific wind corridors and installation methods that maximize performance in Snohomish County.
What happens to a metal roof in hail, and will my insurance recognize the durability?
Interlock achieves UL 2218 Class 4 impact rating — the highest available — and the Guardian warranty even covers perforation from hailstones up to 1.5 inches. Class 4 means the roof has been tested to withstand steel ball impacts equivalent to severe hail without loss of impact resistance; asphalt shingles typically achieve only Class 2 or 3 before granule loss compromises performance. Many insurers offer premium reductions for Class 4-rated roofs because the documented performance is so strong. Snohomish County's climate includes occasional hail events, and aluminum's hardness, combined with the impact-absorbing profile design, means your roof emerges unscathed where traditional roofing would need repair. Request your certificate of compliance at installation — it's the documentation insurers want to see.
Is aluminum roofing light enough to install over my existing roof without reinforcement?
Yes — Interlock's aluminum panels are extraordinarily light. The Mediterranean Tile profile, which replicates the heft of slate or tile, installs at just 0.59 lb/sq ft, making it approximately 96% lighter than the concrete or clay tile it resembles. This means no structural reinforcement is required, and most homes can install Interlock directly over existing asphalt shingles, avoiding the cost and waste of a tear-off. Even the Shake profile, at 0.58 lb/sq ft, weighs a fraction of what actual wood shake or slate would demand. Snohomish County's homes were built with standard framing; Interlock respects those load limits while delivering the appearance and protection of premium materials. Your local installer can assess your specific roof deck in a walkthrough and confirm whether an over-roof is feasible for your home.
How much maintenance does an Interlock metal roof really need in a wet climate?
Far less than asphalt, wood, or tile. Interlock requires no re-coating, no sealant reapplication, and no granule touch-ups — the Alunar 70% PVDF fluorocarbon coating is warrantied 30 years against chalking and fading (measured per ASTM D4214 and D2244), and aluminum does not rot, split, or curl. Snohomish County's roughly 2698 sunshine hours per year mean your roof dries quickly after the 1630 mm annual rainfall, preventing the moss and algae growth that plague asphalt in damp climates. Occasional debris removal from gutters and valleys is all most homeowners do; no professional roof treatments, no emergency repairs from weather damage, no surprise rot discovered during an inspection. The Guardian warranty is non-prorated for the original owner — you're covered for the material's lifetime, so maintenance is truly minimal.
What's the real cost difference between metal and asphalt roofing over a lifetime?
Metal roofing costs more upfront than asphalt shingles, but the math flips over time. An asphalt roof lasts 15–20 years in Snohomish County's wet, freeze-thaw climate; you'll replace it twice before your lifetime is over. Interlock's aluminum, with its non-corroding material, self-healing oxide layer, and 30-year coating warranty, stops the cycle. The Guardian warranty is non-prorated and transferable to one next owner (50 years from completion), meaning you recover cost through avoided tear-offs, landfill fees, and re-roofing labor. Factoring in about 62 freeze-thaw days per year — which degrades asphalt quickly — and roughly 1630 mm of annual rainfall, metal roofing often becomes the lower-cost choice over 40–50 years. Current promotion: no payments and no interest until Spring 2027 or 10% off installation. When you buy Interlock, you buy your last roof.
Will a metal roof increase my home's resale value in Swede Heaven?
Yes. Metal roofing conveys permanence and quality — a roof that won't need replacement for decades is a powerful selling point, especially in a climate like Snohomish County where weather durability is top-of-mind for buyers. Interlock's five profile options (Slate, Cedar Shingle, Shake, Standing Seam, Mediterranean Tile) let you choose aesthetics that suit your home's style without the maintenance burden of authentic slate, wood, or tile. Buyers recognize the Guardian warranty (lifetime non-prorated, one-time transferable to the next owner for 50 years) as a real asset — it's documented, transferable proof that your roof is protected. In a region with roughly 2698 sunshine hours and 412 cm of snow per year, a durable metal roof signals that the home was built to last. That's why homes with metal roofing typically attract serious, prepared buyers who value long-term value over cosmetic upgrades.
