Review: October 14, 2025

We recently had our roof replaced with interlock aluminum shingles and we love how it made our house stand out in our neighborhood. I would have given 5 stars but there were few things that I wanted to point out. Ross arrived on time and did an excellent presentation. I specifically asked him if their installers are contractors and his answer was no, they are employees of interlock. Turns out they are contractors which is no big deal as long as they do excellent work, it’s all about honesty. Prior to installation, the installers told me that it would take about two and a half days to finish which is great, I said no rush. The installation process took two weeks, I hope everything will go well this coming rainy season. The only thing I didn’t like was at the end of the day they leave their tools in the driveway just laying around and the worst they leave their microwave plugged into the outlet with damaged power cord. But with all things said, we love our new roof and only time will tell if it was worth the price.

Review: August 23, 2025

We recently had our roof replaced with aluminum shingles and are very satisfied so far. - Easy Sales Process – Thank you Ross for making everything clear and straightforward from the start. - Great Value – The price was very reasonable compared to other estimates. - Better Than Expected – The finished look exceeded our expectations and really improved the appearance of our home. It’s not as glossy as we feared, which we like. - Fast & Efficient – The crew worked quickly and finished everything in just 2 days for our ~1,000 sq. ft. house with two layers of old shingles. - No Issues – No noise at all, despite common concerns about metal roofs. Tip for others: Ask for the exact model and size of vents that will be installed before the project starts. Our vents were only a few months old but couldn’t be reused, and the ones the company brought were the wrong size. The crew had to buy replacements last minute, which worked but don’t perfectly match.

Metal Roofing FAQs for Homeowners in Pe Ell

The following metal roofing FAQs are designed specifically for homeowners in Pe Ell, Washington. Whether you are building a new home or replacing an existing roof, understanding how roofing materials perform in local weather conditions is essential. From wind and storm protection to fire resistance, hail impact, snow loads, and coastal moisture exposure, Interlock’s Lifetime Aluminum Roofing System is engineered to provide long-term durability, energy efficiency, and peace of mind in Pe Ell.

How does a metal roof handle Pe Ell's heavy snow and freeze-thaw cycles?

Metal roofs shed snow effectively because aluminum's smooth surface and thermal properties prevent ice dams — a critical advantage in Pe Ell's climate of about 49 cm annual snow and roughly 34 freeze-thaw days per year. The four-way interlocking panels bond tightly, so water cannot seep through expansion gaps during thaw cycles. Snow load capacity exceeds typical Lewis County accumulation, and the warranty covers wind speeds up to 120 mph, protecting against the gusts that can reach 103 km/h here. You can add snow guards if desired for safety, but the roof itself resists the damage that freezing moisture inflicts on asphalt.

Why choose aluminum roofing instead of steel when both are metal?

Aluminum cannot rust because it contains no iron — the element that oxidizes in moisture and air. Instead, aluminum forms an oxide layer that self-heals when scratched, making it ideal for Pe Ell's 1578 mm of annual rainfall and the moisture-heavy Pacific Northwest climate. Steel, by contrast, requires constant paint protection to prevent rust stains and structural failure. Interlock's roofing-grade 3105-H24 and 3003-H24 aluminum alloys meet ASTM B209, and the Alunar 70% PVDF fluorocarbon coating is applied to both panel sides for extra salt-air durability — a proven formula since 1998 in coastal and inland environments alike.

Does a metal roof hold up in hail, and could it lower my insurance costs?

Yes — Interlock metal roofing carries UL 2218 Class 4 impact rating, the highest available, and the warranty even covers perforation from hailstones up to 1.5 inches. That extreme durability often qualifies homeowners for insurance discounts because metal roofs resist the impact damage that drives claims on asphalt. Pe Ell's typical wind gusts to 103 km/h and the region's exposure to severe weather make Class 4 impact protection genuinely valuable. Contact your insurer with the UL 2218 rating to explore premium reductions — many carriers recognize metal roofing's loss history and reward it.

Can my existing roof framing support a metal roof, or do I need expensive structural work?

Interlock's aluminum profiles weigh far less than traditional materials, so no structural reinforcement is required. The Cedar Shingle profile installs at just 0.41 lb/sq ft, the Mediterranean Tile at 0.59 lb/sq ft — roughly 96% lighter than concrete or clay tile — and the system installs over most existing roofs without reinforcing walls or trusses. That savings eliminates permit delays and expensive structural work. Pe Ell homes built in older decades often have standard framing that would struggle under slate or heavy tile; aluminum gives you authentic profile appearance with zero structural burden. It's a practical advantage that code approvals (ICC-ES ESR-1790, reissued 2025) confirm.

How much upkeep does a metal roof really require compared to asphalt or wood?

Metal roofing requires significantly less maintenance than asphalt, cedar shake, or tile — no algae treatment, no moss removal, no cracked-shingle replacement. Interlock aluminum won't rot, split, or curl like wood shakes do in Pe Ell's 1578 mm annual rainfall and 34 freeze-thaw cycles. Asphalt requires roof cleaning every few years, especially in the region's 2757 annual sunshine hours where UV damage accelerates. Your aluminum roof needs only occasional inspection and gutter cleaning — the same basic care any home requires. The Alunar 70% PVDF coating, warranted 30 years against chalking and fading per ASTM D4214, maintains appearance without stripping or recoating.

What's the timeline for installing a metal roof, and can you install it over my old roof?

Interlock Metal Roofing (PNW) Inc. has served the region since 1997 and completes most installations in 2–5 days depending on roof size and complexity. Yes, the system installs directly over existing asphalt or cedar — no tear-off required, which saves labor time and disposal costs while protecting your home during the work. Because aluminum panels weigh only 0.41–0.59 lb/sq ft, the substrate needs no reinforcement. The installation follows ICC-ES ESR-1790 specifications, and the crew handles flashing, valleys, and underlayment to meet or exceed local building codes. Your local installer can discuss timeline and pricing — current financing offers no payments or interest until Spring 2027, or 10% off installation.

What warranty backs the roof, and how long will it actually last?

The Guardian Warranty is a lifetime limited, non-prorated material warranty for the original owner covering rusting, rotting, splitting, cracking, curling, and loss of impact resistance. It transfers once to the next owner with a 50-year term — a powerful resale asset. Interlock has manufactured its aluminum panels since 1998 and installed them from coastal salt-air homes to an Antarctic research station, so real-world durability is proven across extreme climates. Aluminum's self-healing oxide layer and the 30-year Alunar coating warranty mean your Pe Ell roof will outperform asphalt shingles (15–20-year life) and match or exceed slate and tile without the weight or maintenance burden.

Is metal roofing actually better for the environment than asphalt shingles?

Metal roofing breaks the asphalt tear-off-to-landfill cycle — Interlock aluminum is approximately 95% recyclable at the end of its lifecycle, versus asphalt shingles that fill landfills by the millions of tons annually. Your installation can go directly over existing roof, reducing immediate waste. The material's longevity means you're not re-roofing every 15–20 years; one Interlock roof outlasts three or four asphalt roofs, and the lifetime warranty means fewer replacement cycles per homeowner lifetime. CALGreen verification confirms reduced maintenance needs, so no periodic chemical treatments or pressure washing runoff. Over Pe Ell's 2757 sunshine hours annually, energy-efficient colors reflect heat that asphalt absorbs, reducing cooling load and associated carbon emissions.

Can I get the look of slate, shake, or tile without the weight and upkeep?

Interlock offers five profiles — Slate, Cedar Shingle, Shake, Standing Seam, and Mediterranean Tile — each replicating the authentic appearance of traditional materials. The four-way interlocking aluminum panels hold profile detail through all weather: Pe Ell's 1578 mm annual rain, 49 cm snow, and 34 freeze-thaw days won't crack, split, or fade the finish. The Alunar coating is warranted 30 years against color loss (ASTM D2244 measured), so your roof looks as intended decades in. You eliminate the maintenance that cedar shake demands in high-moisture climates, the cracking that slate and concrete tile suffer in freeze cycles, and the algae growth that tile harbors. Profile choice is pure aesthetics — durability and maintenance are uniform across all five.

Is a metal roof a good investment, or will I overpay compared to asphalt?

Aluminum costs more upfront than asphalt but is cheaper over a 50-year home ownership span because it's the last roof you'll buy. Asphalt shingles last 15–20 years; you'll reroof 2–3 times, each time paying labor and disposal. Interlock's lifetime warranty, transferable 50-year term, and documented durability from 1998 manufacturing means one installation covers a typical homeowner's life plus the next buyer's early years. No algae treatments, no moss removal, no premature replacement — that adds up. Financing now offers no payments or interest until Spring 2027, or 10% off installation, lowering the initial barrier. Pe Ell's 2757 sunshine hours and energy-efficiency colors (up to 0.55 solar reflectance) reduce cooling costs year-round, recovering some premium through lower energy bills.
