Interlock® Aluminum Roofing — all-climates performance specs for Salkum Prairie, Washington
| Spec / Rating | Climate / Risk Factor + What It Solves |
|---|---|
| Wind resistance: 120+ mph (193+ kph) | Extreme wind, hurricanes, storm uplift: full interlocking attachment helps prevent blow-offs, edge lifting, and panel loss in high-gust events. |
| Fire rating: Class A (with proper assembly) | Wildfire, embers, radiant heat, chimney sparks: non-combustible roof assembly provides the highest residential fire protection rating. |
| Hail resistance: UL 2218 Class 4 | Hail and impact debris: highest impact classification; resists cracking, splitting, and surface loss common with asphalt under hail strikes. |
| Snow & ice performance: interlocking, shedding profile | Heavy snow, freeze-thaw, ice dams: smooth aluminum sheds snow efficiently and the interlocking design helps block water intrusion when melt-refreeze cycles occur. (Final snow-load capacity depends on roof structure and local code.) |
| Corrosion resistance: aluminum (won’t rust) | Salt air, coastal humidity, wet climates: aluminum naturally resists rust and corrosion, reducing long-term failure risk in marine or high-moisture environments. |
| Heat / UV durability: baked-on coating system | High heat, intense sun, thermal cycling: coatings resist UV breakdown and temperature-swing fatigue, slowing fading and surface degradation. |
| Moss / algae resistance: smooth coated surface | Wet shade, organic growth: low-porosity metal surface gives moss/algae less to grip, reducing staining and maintenance. |
| Material: heavy-gauge aluminum roof profiles (Slate / Shake / Shingle / Tile / Standing Seam) | All-season structural stability: lightweight, dent-resistant metal system stays stable through large hot-cold swings and severe weather. |
| Expected lifespan: 50+ years | Long-term durability across climates: avoids re-roof cycles typical of shorter-life materials, even in high-stress environments. |
| Warranty: Lifetime-Limited, non-prorated + 50-year transferable | Lifetime protection + resale value: guarantees long-term material confidence and transfers to future owners. |

What our customers are saying:
Prompt service and very knowledgeable. Highly recommend.
My wife and I wanted a long-term roof and I think we found it. The product seems very good and are installer Daniel was terrific and a trooper put a lot of hours and a lot of time and made it look real nice when it was completed. I would recommend the company if you're looking for a metal roof.
Ivan Excellent will make it right!!
We needed a roof repair when our neighbors tree dropped a large limb through our roof. Ivan came And accessed The damage, Ordered the sheets we needed. He came back and did the whole Repair himself. So happy to have it fixed along with his recommendations to have the roof cleaned. We appreciate his skills in repairing The roof.
The Interlock associate Ivan, came did an awesome service in correcting the part needed to be corrected, he left us with instructions of what we needed to check and to get in touch with, if needed 😀 Ms. May the associate answering the phone was helpful for us to get prompt service. They are dependable. We received roof service.
The work was efficient and well done. The service, the people and team were great. Beautiful roof.
I highly appreciate the professionalism, workmanship and the quality of materials used. I don't doubt that it will be our forever roof and will not need to worry about replacement during the life of our house. Ross, Tony, Roma were all great throughout the new roof installation process.
We noticed water spots on the ceiling. Ivan came, found a hole likely caused by a branch in the recent wind storm. He repaired the hole on the spot. Thank you Ivan!
Ivan replaced our exhaust vent on the roof that had some leaking issue. We were impressed with his professionalism, courtesy and fixing the problem to our utmost satisfaction. We certainly would recommend him and the company for any roofing issues being it a new roof or repairs.
We recently had our roof replaced with interlock aluminum shingles and we love how it made our house stand out in our neighborhood. I would have given 5 stars but there were few things that I wanted to point out. Ross arrived on time and did an excellent presentation. I specifically asked him if their installers are contractors and his answer was no, they are employees of interlock. Turns out they are contractors which is no big deal as long as they do excellent work, it’s all about honesty. Prior to installation, the installers told me that it would take about two and a half days to finish which is great, I said no rush. The installation process took two weeks, I hope everything will go well this coming rainy season. The only thing I didn’t like was at the end of the day they leave their tools in the driveway just laying around and the worst they leave their microwave plugged into the outlet with damaged power cord. But with all things said, we love our new roof and only time will tell if it was worth the price.
Excellent contact and coordination with field representatives and installers/project manager.
We recently had our roof replaced with aluminum shingles and are very satisfied so far. - Easy Sales Process – Thank you Ross for making everything clear and straightforward from the start. - Great Value – The price was very reasonable compared to other estimates. - Better Than Expected – The finished look exceeded our expectations and really improved the appearance of our home. It’s not as glossy as we feared, which we like. - Fast & Efficient – The crew worked quickly and finished everything in just 2 days for our ~1,000 sq. ft. house with two layers of old shingles. - No Issues – No noise at all, despite common concerns about metal roofs. Tip for others: Ask for the exact model and size of vents that will be installed before the project starts. Our vents were only a few months old but couldn’t be reused, and the ones the company brought were the wrong size. The crew had to buy replacements last minute, which worked but don’t perfectly match.

Metal Roofing FAQs for Homeowners in Salkum Prairie
The following metal roofing FAQs are designed specifically for homeowners in Salkum Prairie, Washington. Whether you are building a new home or replacing an existing roof, understanding how roofing materials perform in local weather conditions is essential. From wind and storm protection to fire resistance, hail impact, snow loads, and coastal moisture exposure, Interlock’s Lifetime Aluminum Roofing System is engineered to provide long-term durability, energy efficiency, and peace of mind in Salkum Prairie.
Does metal roofing handle heavy snow in Salkum Prairie?
Yes. Interlock's four-way interlocking panels shed snow reliably even under the region's average 253 cm annual snowfall and 46 freeze-thaw cycles per year. The aluminum's light weight—Slate at 0.41 lb/sq ft—means no structural reinforcement is needed, and the panels' grip profile prevents snow slides while allowing melt to drain. Ice dams form from heat loss; metal roofs paired with proper attic ventilation and underlayment minimize that risk across Lewis County's freeze-thaw conditions.
Will a metal roof leak with 1,759 mm of rain per year?
No. The four-way interlocking seams overlap to shed water, and when installed over solid decking with underlayment per ESR-1790 specifications, the roof performs identically to asphalt in rainfall. Salkum Prairie's heavy precipitation (about 1,759 mm annually) actually favors metal: the seams never swell or decay like shingle butt joints do. Proper installation and gutter maintenance are the only requirements—the panels themselves are engineered to direct water downward without pooling or saturation.
Can metal roofing withstand Lewis County windstorms?
Yes. Interlock panels are warranted to resist wind speeds up to 120 mph when installed to specification. Regional gusts average 12 km/h with recorded peaks near 108 km/h—well below that threshold. The four-way interlocking design locks each panel to its neighbors, distributing gust load across the entire roof plane rather than stressing individual fasteners. This system has performed in coastal salt-air environments and remote Antarctic stations; Salkum Prairie's wind exposure presents no challenge.
Does Interlock metal roofing qualify for hail damage insurance discounts?
Interlock achieves UL 2218 Class 4, the highest hail-impact rating available, and the Guardian Warranty covers perforation from hailstones up to 1.5 inches. While Salkum Prairie's climate data does not indicate frequent severe hail, this rating may qualify you for homeowner insurance discounts—contact your carrier for specifics. The non-combustible aluminum and superior impact resistance often lower overall premiums compared to asphalt shingles, which degrade faster and require claims more frequently over a roof's life.
Why doesn't aluminum rust like steel roofs?
Aluminum contains no iron, so it cannot oxidize into rust. Interlock uses roofing-grade 3105-H24 and 3003-H24 aluminum (ASTM B209) with a Alunar 70% PVDF fluorocarbon finish on both sides. When scratched, aluminum's oxide layer self-heals, sealing the bare metal. In Salkum Prairie's wet climate with 253 cm of snow and frequent freeze-thaw cycling, this corrosion immunity eliminates the deterioration that affects steel and extends the roof's lifespan indefinitely. The 30-year coating warranty covers chalking and fading, not corrosion.
How does metal roofing survive 46 freeze-thaw cycles per year?
Aluminum expands and contracts minimally compared to asphalt or wood; its thermal properties remain stable across Salkum Prairie's temperature swings. The four-way interlocking panel design accommodates micro-movement without stressing seams. At roughly 0.41 to 0.59 lb/sq ft depending on profile, the light weight reduces structural strain during freeze cycles. The coating does not chalk, crack, or curl under temperature stress. After 46 annual transitions between frozen and thawed states over decades, asphalt becomes brittle; Interlock panels maintain flexibility and sealing integrity.
Can I install metal tile roofing over my existing roof without structural work?
Yes. Interlock Mediterranean Tile is approximately 96% lighter than concrete or clay tile, installing at just 0.59 lb/sq ft. Most existing residential framing accepts this load without reinforcement. In fact, you can install directly over asphalt shingles, avoiding tear-off labor and landfill costs. Your local installer, Interlock Metal Roofing (PNW) Inc., will assess your deck during the site visit. The weight savings mean a permanent, durable tile aesthetic without expensive structural upgrades—a key advantage in older homes throughout Lewis County.
How much maintenance does a metal roof require in Salkum Prairie?
Minimal. Interlock roofing is CALGreen-verified for reduced maintenance. Unlike asphalt (which requires frequent inspections and seal-coating after 5–7 years), wood shake (which splits and rots in wet climates), or tile (which cracks in freeze-thaw cycles), Interlock aluminum does not degrade from the region's 1,759 mm annual rainfall or 46 freeze-thaw days. Clear gutters annually and trim overhanging branches—standard for any roof. The panels do not require coating renewal, sealing, or re-fastening. You own a truly set-and-forget roof.
What warranty does Interlock offer and does it transfer?
The Guardian Warranty provides a lifetime limited, non-prorated material warranty for the original homeowner—covering rusting, rotting, splitting, cracking, curling, and loss of impact resistance. It transfers once to the next owner for 50 years from completion, adding significant resale appeal in Salkum Prairie's competitive market. This coverage is unusual in roofing: asphalt typically warrants 20–25 years prorated, wood requires constant maintenance, and tile often carries 30-year prorated terms. Interlock's transferable lifetime term reflects the product's actual durability in harsh wet climates like yours.
Is a metal roof more expensive than asphalt over 50 years?
No. Metal roofs cost more upfront but deliver far lower lifetime cost. Asphalt averages 15–20 years in wet climates; Salkum Prairie's 1,759 mm rain and freeze-thaw cycles accelerate degradation. You will reroof twice by year 50. Interlock installs once and lasts indefinitely, eliminating future tear-off costs, landfill fees, and labor. Current regional financing offers no payments and no interest until Spring 2027 or 10% off—removing the upfront barrier. Over five decades of rain and 46 annual freeze-thaw days, one durable roof beats replacing asphalt twice.
