Review: October 14, 2025

We recently had our roof replaced with interlock aluminum shingles and we love how it made our house stand out in our neighborhood. I would have given 5 stars but there were few things that I wanted to point out. Ross arrived on time and did an excellent presentation. I specifically asked him if their installers are contractors and his answer was no, they are employees of interlock. Turns out they are contractors which is no big deal as long as they do excellent work, it’s all about honesty. Prior to installation, the installers told me that it would take about two and a half days to finish which is great, I said no rush. The installation process took two weeks, I hope everything will go well this coming rainy season. The only thing I didn’t like was at the end of the day they leave their tools in the driveway just laying around and the worst they leave their microwave plugged into the outlet with damaged power cord. But with all things said, we love our new roof and only time will tell if it was worth the price.

Review: August 23, 2025

We recently had our roof replaced with aluminum shingles and are very satisfied so far. - Easy Sales Process – Thank you Ross for making everything clear and straightforward from the start. - Great Value – The price was very reasonable compared to other estimates. - Better Than Expected – The finished look exceeded our expectations and really improved the appearance of our home. It’s not as glossy as we feared, which we like. - Fast & Efficient – The crew worked quickly and finished everything in just 2 days for our ~1,000 sq. ft. house with two layers of old shingles. - No Issues – No noise at all, despite common concerns about metal roofs. Tip for others: Ask for the exact model and size of vents that will be installed before the project starts. Our vents were only a few months old but couldn’t be reused, and the ones the company brought were the wrong size. The crew had to buy replacements last minute, which worked but don’t perfectly match.

Metal Roofing FAQs for Homeowners in Vail Heights

The following metal roofing FAQs are designed specifically for homeowners in Vail Heights, Washington. Whether you are building a new home or replacing an existing roof, understanding how roofing materials perform in local weather conditions is essential. From wind and storm protection to fire resistance, hail impact, snow loads, and coastal moisture exposure, Interlock’s Lifetime Aluminum Roofing System is engineered to provide long-term durability, energy efficiency, and peace of mind in Vail Heights.

How does a metal roof handle heavy snow and ice in Vail Heights winters?

Metal roofs shed snow and ice more effectively than asphalt because the smooth, hard surface prevents moisture from bonding and forming ice dams. Vail Heights receives about 30 cm of snow annually over roughly 46 freeze-thaw cycles, which stresses asphalt and wood shingles as they expand and contract; aluminum's non-corrosive oxide layer doesn't degrade through these cycles. Snow guards are available if you need to control shedding on lower-pitched roofs. The four-way interlocking seams (ESR-1790 rated) remain watertight even when snow melts and refreezes at the eaves.

Will a metal roof crack or split from freeze-thaw cycling?

No—aluminum cannot crack, split, or curl under freeze-thaw stress because it has no grain structure and doesn't absorb water. Vail Heights experiences about 46 freeze-thaw days per year, which causes asphalt and wood shingles to develop micro-fractures as trapped moisture expands. The Guardian warranty explicitly covers cracking and splitting, and the Alunar coating (warranted 30 years) protects against corrosion in the wet Pacific Northwest climate. The metal itself ages only in color, not in structural integrity.

Can a metal roof withstand Vail Heights wind gusts without loosening or flying off?

Yes. Interlock metal roofing is warranted to resist wind speeds up to 120 mph, and Vail Heights typically experiences gusts around 98 km/h (61 mph)—well within that safety margin. The four-way interlocking panels lock together on all edges, preventing wind from lifting individual shingles as it does with asphalt. Each panel is mechanically fastened, and the interlocking design distributes wind load across the entire roof structure rather than concentrating it on single fastener points. Even in the most severe local wind events, the warranty covers performance.

Will my house need structural reinforcement to support a metal roof?

Almost never. The Interlock Slate profile installs at just 0.41 lb/sq ft, and the Mediterranean Tile—which replicates the aesthetic of concrete or clay tile—weighs only about 0.59 lb/sq ft, making it roughly 96% lighter than the real thing. Most existing wood-frame homes in Vail Heights can accommodate this weight without any reinforcement. In fact, Interlock can install over most existing roofs, eliminating costly tear-off labor and reducing landfill waste. The light weight also simplifies installation and reduces shipping costs.

Why doesn't aluminum rust like steel roofing does?

Aluminum contains no iron, so it cannot rust. When aluminum is exposed to oxygen, it forms a thin, transparent oxide layer that actually protects the metal beneath—and when that layer is scratched, it heals itself automatically. Steel roofing, by contrast, requires paint or coatings to prevent rust, and once those fail, corrosion spreads. In Vail Heights' wet climate with 1195 mm of annual rain, this self-healing protection means decades of durability without the rust stains, perforation, or structural failure that plague steel. The Alunar fluorocarbon finish (30-year warranty) adds another layer of defense, and the Guardian warranty explicitly covers rusting—a guarantee no steel roof can match.

How long does a metal roof last, and what does the warranty actually cover?

Interlock metal roofing comes with The Guardian—a lifetime limited, non-prorated material warranty for the original owner that covers rusting, rotting, splitting, cracking, curling, and loss of impact resistance. If you sell your home, the warranty transfers once to the next owner for 50 years from completion, significantly boosting resale appeal. The aluminum itself lasts 50+ years in normal conditions, and installations dating back to 1998 are still performing; the Alunar coating carries a separate 30-year warranty against chalking and fading. This is the last roof most homeowners will buy.

How much maintenance does a metal roof need compared to asphalt or wood shingles?

Metal roofs require almost no maintenance. Unlike asphalt shingles, which degrade under Vail Heights' 2943 annual sunshine hours and frequent moisture cycles, metal doesn't rot, curl, or lose granules. Unlike wood shakes, aluminum won't split or require sealing. The Alunar coating (30-year warranty) resists fading and chalking without needing recoating. CALGreen verification confirms the reduced maintenance burden. Occasional gutter cleaning and inspection after severe weather are all that's needed. Over a 50-year lifespan, this translates to lower total cost of ownership than asphalt, which requires replacement every 15–20 years.

Is a metal roof better for the environment than asphalt shingles?

Yes. Aluminum is approximately 95% recyclable, and when your Interlock roof reaches end of life, the panels can be melted down and reused indefinitely without loss of properties. Asphalt shingles, by contrast, end up in landfills—roughly 11 million tons annually in North America. Interlock has been manufactured since 1998 in Delta, BC, using recycled content where possible, and the lightweight design (0.41–0.59 lb/sq ft) reduces transportation emissions. Installation over existing roofs eliminates tear-off waste. In Vail Heights, choosing metal means your home contributes to a circular economy rather than perpetuating the asphalt replacement cycle.

Is a metal roof fire-resistant?

Interlock aluminum roofing is non-combustible and available in Class A fire classification—the highest rating possible. Because aluminum cannot burn, it will not contribute fuel to a fire, and it won't spread flames across the roof. This is especially valuable in regions prone to wildfire risk. The roofing's ESR-1790 evaluation confirms code compliance for fire performance under IBC and IRC standards. If you live in a fire-rated community or your insurer offers discounts for Class A roofing, metal significantly outperforms asphalt (which is combustible) and wood shakes (which are highly flammable). Your insurance agent can confirm local premium savings.

Who installs Interlock metal roofing in Vail Heights, and how long has that company been around?

Interlock Metal Roofing (PNW) Inc. has been serving Vail Heights and the surrounding Lewis County region since 1997—longer than nearly any local roofing contractor. They understand the specific demands of Pacific Northwest weather: heavy rain (1195 mm annually), freeze-thaw cycling (about 46 days per year), and wind gusts to 98 km/h. The installer's experience ensures your roof is installed to ESR-1790 standards so that the four-way interlocking seams, fastening pattern, and underlayment work together to shed water and resist local weather. Current promotion: no payments and no interest until Spring 2027, or 10% off installation.
