Review: October 14, 2025

We recently had our roof replaced with interlock aluminum shingles and we love how it made our house stand out in our neighborhood. I would have given 5 stars but there were few things that I wanted to point out. Ross arrived on time and did an excellent presentation. I specifically asked him if their installers are contractors and his answer was no, they are employees of interlock. Turns out they are contractors which is no big deal as long as they do excellent work, it’s all about honesty. Prior to installation, the installers told me that it would take about two and a half days to finish which is great, I said no rush. The installation process took two weeks, I hope everything will go well this coming rainy season. The only thing I didn’t like was at the end of the day they leave their tools in the driveway just laying around and the worst they leave their microwave plugged into the outlet with damaged power cord. But with all things said, we love our new roof and only time will tell if it was worth the price.

Review: August 23, 2025

We recently had our roof replaced with aluminum shingles and are very satisfied so far. - Easy Sales Process – Thank you Ross for making everything clear and straightforward from the start. - Great Value – The price was very reasonable compared to other estimates. - Better Than Expected – The finished look exceeded our expectations and really improved the appearance of our home. It’s not as glossy as we feared, which we like. - Fast & Efficient – The crew worked quickly and finished everything in just 2 days for our ~1,000 sq. ft. house with two layers of old shingles. - No Issues – No noise at all, despite common concerns about metal roofs. Tip for others: Ask for the exact model and size of vents that will be installed before the project starts. Our vents were only a few months old but couldn’t be reused, and the ones the company brought were the wrong size. The crew had to buy replacements last minute, which worked but don’t perfectly match.

Metal Roofing FAQs for Homeowners in Mineral

The following metal roofing FAQs are designed specifically for homeowners in Mineral, Washington. Whether you are building a new home or replacing an existing roof, understanding how roofing materials perform in local weather conditions is essential. From wind and storm protection to fire resistance, hail impact, snow loads, and coastal moisture exposure, Interlock’s Lifetime Aluminum Roofing System is engineered to provide long-term durability, energy efficiency, and peace of mind in Mineral.

Does metal roofing handle heavy snow loads? Mineral gets over 3 meters per year.

Yes—Interlock's four-way interlocking aluminum panels are engineered to shed snow safely without accumulation risk. With Mineral averaging about 337 cm of snow annually and 65 freeze-thaw cycles per year, the smooth metal surface and panel interlocks prevent ice dams from forming. Snow slides cleanly rather than bonding to the surface like it does on asphalt. The panels are lightweight—the Slate profile weighs just 0.41 lb/sq ft—so they distribute load evenly without stressing your structure, even under heavy wet snow. Snow guards can be installed if you want to control where melt runs.

Will freeze-thaw cycles in Mineral damage an aluminum roof over time?

Aluminum actually thrives in freeze-thaw environments—it has no water absorption and cannot rot or split like wood or concrete tile. Mineral experiences roughly 65 freeze-thaw days annually, which would crack asphalt, wood shakes, and clay tile, but aluminum's molecular structure is unaffected by repeated temperature swings. The Alunar 70% PVDF coating (both sides) resists weathering through these cycles and is warranted 30 years against chalking and fading. Unlike materials that expand and contract unevenly, aluminum moves predictably, so fasteners stay tight and panels stay sealed across thousands of temperature changes.

Can a metal roof really handle Mineral's 1,500mm of rain per year without leaks?

Metal roofing is among the most leak-resistant systems available, especially with proper installation over a solid deck and underlayment. Mineral receives about 1,502 mm of rain annually—well above the US average—and Interlock's four-way interlocking panels are designed specifically for this. Water runs off immediately rather than sitting on the surface. The interlocks overlap on all four edges, creating a shingle-like water-shedding system. Our local installer, Interlock Metal Roofing (PNW) Inc., has served the region since 1997 and understands Pacific Northwest weather. When installed to spec per ICC-ES ESR-1790, you get leak-free performance in sustained downpours.

Are interlocking metal panels strong enough for Mineral's wind gusts?

Interlock panels are warranted to resist wind speeds up to 120 mph (193 km/h) when installed to specification. Mineral's typical gusts reach about 110 km/h, so you're well within the safety margin. The four-way interlocking design—where panels lock on all sides—distributes wind force across the entire roof rather than concentrating it at fasteners. This redundancy means even in the strongest regional gusts, the system stays intact. The ICC-ES evaluation report ESR-1790 confirms this performance for IBC/IRC code compliance. You'll find Interlock roofs installed from coastal salt-air environments to research stations in Antarctica, all surviving far harsher wind conditions than Mineral typically sees.

Why is aluminum roofing better than steel in a wet climate like Mineral?

Aluminum cannot rust because it contains no iron—the element that oxidizes and causes structural failure. When aluminum is scratched or exposed to moisture, it forms an oxide layer that's only nanometers thick and self-heals automatically. In Mineral's wet climate with 1,502 mm of rain yearly, steel would begin corroding within years. Interlock uses roofing-grade 3105-H24 and 3003-H24 aluminum alloy per ASTM B209, coated on both sides with Alunar 70% PVDF fluorocarbon finish for added salt-air and moisture protection. The warranty covers rusting for the lifetime of the original owner—a promise you'd never get from steel roofing in this region.

Will I need to reinforce my roof structure for metal shingles?

No structural reinforcement is needed—that's one of aluminum's greatest advantages. Interlock's Slate profile installs at just 0.41 lb/sq ft, and even the heaviest profile, Mediterranean Tile, weighs only 0.59 lb/sq ft—about 96% lighter than real concrete or clay tile. This means the roof can be installed directly over your existing asphalt shingles in most cases, avoiding the cost and mess of a tear-off. Mineral homeowners save thousands because there's no need for additional framing, support beams, or structural engineering. The lightweight design also means less stress on your home's frame across the 65 freeze-thaw cycles that happen here annually, reducing movement and prolonging overall building longevity.

Does hail damage metal roofing? What's the insurance angle?

Interlock metal roofing carries a UL 2218 Class 4 impact rating—the highest available—and the Guardian Warranty actually covers perforation from hailstones up to 1.5 inches. Class 4 certification means the material withstood impacts far exceeding what typical hailstones deliver. Many insurance companies recognize this durability and offer premium discounts for Class 4-rated metal roofs, sometimes recovering the installation cost difference over a few years. Unlike asphalt, which dents permanently and fails early from hail, aluminum panels maintain their impact resistance for life. Ask your insurer about discounts when you get your metal roof installed—you may qualify immediately, making the upfront cost offset by lower annual premiums.

Is a metal roof worth the upfront cost, or should I stick with asphalt?

Metal roofing is the last roof you'll buy; asphalt requires replacement every 15–25 years. The Guardian Warranty on Interlock provides a lifetime limited, non-prorated material warranty for the original owner, then transfers once with 50 years of coverage for the next owner. Mineral's weather—1,502 mm rain, 337 cm snow, 65 freeze-thaw cycles, and gusts to 110 km/h—tears through asphalt quickly, shrinking its lifespan. Metal won't rot, split, curl, or lose impact resistance. Over 50+ years, one metal roof costs far less than replacing asphalt three times. Right now, Interlock offers no payments and no interest until Spring 2027 or 10% off installation, bringing the upfront gap even closer.

How much maintenance does a metal roof need compared to asphalt or wood?

Metal requires minimal maintenance—no repairs for rot, splitting, curling, or moss growth like asphalt and wood do. Interlock aluminum won't absorb moisture or degrade from freeze-thaw cycling, which happens 65 times yearly in Mineral. The Alunar 70% PVDF coating is warranted 30 years against chalking and fading, so repainting isn't necessary. Occasional gutter cleaning and debris removal are all that's needed. Wood shakes require annual inspection and periodic replacement in your wet 1,502 mm-per-year climate; asphalt shingles lift and curl after a few cycles of 65 freeze-thaw days. Metal roofing is CALGreen-verified for reduced maintenance, meaning lower lifetime ownership costs and fewer contractor visits to your home.

Is metal roofing actually better for the environment than asphalt?

Yes—Interlock aluminum is approximately 95% recyclable at end-of-life, whereas asphalt shingles end up in landfills by the millions of tons annually. Because metal roofing lasts 50+ years versus asphalt's 15–25 years, you avoid the tear-off-and-landfill cycle repeated three or more times over the same period. In Mineral, where heavy rain and freeze-thaw cycles accelerate asphalt failure, switching to metal means fewer roofing projects disturbing your home and neighborhood. The lightweight design also eliminates the need for structural reinforcement, reducing material waste during installation. Aluminum's energy efficiency—energy-efficient colors with up to 0.55 solar reflectance—means lower cooling costs. Over its lifetime, one metal roof has a smaller environmental footprint than multiple asphalt replacements.
