Interlock® Aluminum Roofing — all-climates performance specs for Packwood Heights, Washington
| Spec / Rating | Climate / Risk Factor + What It Solves |
|---|---|
| Wind resistance: 120+ mph (193+ kph) | Extreme wind, hurricanes, storm uplift: full interlocking attachment helps prevent blow-offs, edge lifting, and panel loss in high-gust events. |
| Fire rating: Class A (with proper assembly) | Wildfire, embers, radiant heat, chimney sparks: non-combustible roof assembly provides the highest residential fire protection rating. |
| Hail resistance: UL 2218 Class 4 | Hail and impact debris: highest impact classification; resists cracking, splitting, and surface loss common with asphalt under hail strikes. |
| Snow & ice performance: interlocking, shedding profile | Heavy snow, freeze-thaw, ice dams: smooth aluminum sheds snow efficiently and the interlocking design helps block water intrusion when melt-refreeze cycles occur. (Final snow-load capacity depends on roof structure and local code.) |
| Corrosion resistance: aluminum (won’t rust) | Salt air, coastal humidity, wet climates: aluminum naturally resists rust and corrosion, reducing long-term failure risk in marine or high-moisture environments. |
| Heat / UV durability: baked-on coating system | High heat, intense sun, thermal cycling: coatings resist UV breakdown and temperature-swing fatigue, slowing fading and surface degradation. |
| Moss / algae resistance: smooth coated surface | Wet shade, organic growth: low-porosity metal surface gives moss/algae less to grip, reducing staining and maintenance. |
| Material: heavy-gauge aluminum roof profiles (Slate / Shake / Shingle / Tile / Standing Seam) | All-season structural stability: lightweight, dent-resistant metal system stays stable through large hot-cold swings and severe weather. |
| Expected lifespan: 50+ years | Long-term durability across climates: avoids re-roof cycles typical of shorter-life materials, even in high-stress environments. |
| Warranty: Lifetime-Limited, non-prorated + 50-year transferable | Lifetime protection + resale value: guarantees long-term material confidence and transfers to future owners. |

What our customers are saying:
Prompt service and very knowledgeable. Highly recommend.
My wife and I wanted a long-term roof and I think we found it. The product seems very good and are installer Daniel was terrific and a trooper put a lot of hours and a lot of time and made it look real nice when it was completed. I would recommend the company if you're looking for a metal roof.
Ivan Excellent will make it right!!
We needed a roof repair when our neighbors tree dropped a large limb through our roof. Ivan came And accessed The damage, Ordered the sheets we needed. He came back and did the whole Repair himself. So happy to have it fixed along with his recommendations to have the roof cleaned. We appreciate his skills in repairing The roof.
The Interlock associate Ivan, came did an awesome service in correcting the part needed to be corrected, he left us with instructions of what we needed to check and to get in touch with, if needed 😀 Ms. May the associate answering the phone was helpful for us to get prompt service. They are dependable. We received roof service.
The work was efficient and well done. The service, the people and team were great. Beautiful roof.
I highly appreciate the professionalism, workmanship and the quality of materials used. I don't doubt that it will be our forever roof and will not need to worry about replacement during the life of our house. Ross, Tony, Roma were all great throughout the new roof installation process.
We noticed water spots on the ceiling. Ivan came, found a hole likely caused by a branch in the recent wind storm. He repaired the hole on the spot. Thank you Ivan!
Ivan replaced our exhaust vent on the roof that had some leaking issue. We were impressed with his professionalism, courtesy and fixing the problem to our utmost satisfaction. We certainly would recommend him and the company for any roofing issues being it a new roof or repairs.
We recently had our roof replaced with interlock aluminum shingles and we love how it made our house stand out in our neighborhood. I would have given 5 stars but there were few things that I wanted to point out. Ross arrived on time and did an excellent presentation. I specifically asked him if their installers are contractors and his answer was no, they are employees of interlock. Turns out they are contractors which is no big deal as long as they do excellent work, it’s all about honesty. Prior to installation, the installers told me that it would take about two and a half days to finish which is great, I said no rush. The installation process took two weeks, I hope everything will go well this coming rainy season. The only thing I didn’t like was at the end of the day they leave their tools in the driveway just laying around and the worst they leave their microwave plugged into the outlet with damaged power cord. But with all things said, we love our new roof and only time will tell if it was worth the price.
Excellent contact and coordination with field representatives and installers/project manager.
We recently had our roof replaced with aluminum shingles and are very satisfied so far. - Easy Sales Process – Thank you Ross for making everything clear and straightforward from the start. - Great Value – The price was very reasonable compared to other estimates. - Better Than Expected – The finished look exceeded our expectations and really improved the appearance of our home. It’s not as glossy as we feared, which we like. - Fast & Efficient – The crew worked quickly and finished everything in just 2 days for our ~1,000 sq. ft. house with two layers of old shingles. - No Issues – No noise at all, despite common concerns about metal roofs. Tip for others: Ask for the exact model and size of vents that will be installed before the project starts. Our vents were only a few months old but couldn’t be reused, and the ones the company brought were the wrong size. The crew had to buy replacements last minute, which worked but don’t perfectly match.

Metal Roofing FAQs for Homeowners in Packwood Heights
The following metal roofing FAQs are designed specifically for homeowners in Packwood Heights, Washington. Whether you are building a new home or replacing an existing roof, understanding how roofing materials perform in local weather conditions is essential. From wind and storm protection to fire resistance, hail impact, snow loads, and coastal moisture exposure, Interlock’s Lifetime Aluminum Roofing System is engineered to provide long-term durability, energy efficiency, and peace of mind in Packwood Heights.
How does a metal roof handle Packwood Heights' heavy snow and ice buildup?
Metal roofs shed snow better than asphalt because the smooth, hard surface and thermal properties prevent ice from bonding like it does to porous shingles. Packwood averages about 516 cm of snow annually with roughly 51 freeze-thaw cycles per year—conditions that crack and curl asphalt but don't affect aluminum. Interlock panels are warranted to resist wind gusts up to 125 km/h, the typical peak winds during your region's wet winters. Snow guards are available if you want to manage roof runoff, but the material itself won't degrade from the constant thaw-freeze stress that degrades conventional roofing.
Does freeze-thaw cycling damage metal roofing?
No—aluminum actually thrives through freeze-thaw cycles. Your area experiences about 51 such cycles yearly, which splits wood, cracks asphalt, and corrodes steel. Aluminum doesn't absorb moisture, so it won't swell, contract unevenly, or crack as temperatures swing between freezing and Packwood's typical daytime high. The material's oxide layer self-heals if scratched, staying intact even as winter stress builds. With a 30-year coating warranty on both sides of the panel, ice and salt spray won't compromise the Alunar finish during your region's 1181 mm of annual rain and snow melt.
Why do roofers recommend aluminum over steel in wet climates?
Aluminum cannot rust because it contains no iron—the element that oxidizes in moisture. Steel roofs corrode visibly in high-rainfall areas like Packwood (1181 mm annually), leaving rust streaks and eventual perforation. Aluminum forms a protective oxide layer that self-heals when damaged, so even scratches during installation or storms don't start a corrosion chain. The roofing-grade 3105-H24 alloy used in Interlock panels is the same specification trusted in coastal salt-air climates and Antarctic research stations. In your wet, freeze-thaw environment, that means no rust stains, no structural weakness, and no surprise failures decades down the road.
Can my house support a metal roof, or do I need expensive structural work?
Most homes need no structural work because metal roofing weighs a fraction of what traditional tile and slate demand. Interlock's Mediterranean Tile profile, which replicates heavy clay tile, installs at just 0.59 lb/sq ft—about 96% lighter than actual tile. Even the heavier Shake profile comes in at 0.58 lb/sq ft. This means you can upgrade to a metal roof over your existing asphalt without reinforcing beams or trusses. Your builder originally calculated the structure for standard roofing loads plus Packwood's 516 cm annual snow—metal won't exceed that. Installation often happens right over the old roof, saving tear-off labor and debris costs.
With 1181 mm of rain per year, how does a metal roof keep water out?
Four-way interlocking aluminum panels with solid deck installation and underlayment create a watertight seal that handles Packwood's above-average rainfall without leaks. The panels lock on all four sides—not just side-to-side like some competitors—and install over solid sheathing with roofing felt, the same moisture barrier used under asphalt. Rain runs off the smooth aluminum surface faster than it soaks into porous shingles, so water doesn't sit at seams. Proper flashing around penetrations (vents, chimneys) is the real detail work, and that's the same for any roof. Once installed to code (ESR-1790 verified), the system sheds the wet, windy storms your region gets without pooling or backing up into the home.
Are metal roofs strong enough for Packwood's winter wind gusts?
Yes—Interlock's four-way interlocking panels are warranted to resist sustained winds up to 120 mph, and they're engineered for peak gusts. Packwood's typical maximum gust speed reaches about 125 km/h (78 mph), but occasional winter systems can approach your regional gust data. The panels lock on all four edges, so uplift loads are distributed across multiple mechanical connections rather than relying on nails alone. This four-way interlock is verified under ICC-ES ESR-1790 for IBC/IRC code compliance, meaning engineers have tested the load paths. Your region's 1181 mm annual rainfall often accompanies those wind events, and the combination of wind-driven rain and gusts won't separate interlocked panels the way it can lift individual shingles.
Does hail damage metal roofs, and will my insurance cover it?
Interlock panels carry a UL 2218 Class 4 impact rating—the highest hail classification available—and the warranty even covers perforation from hailstones up to 1.5 inches. Class 4 means the product resists impact that would dent or crack asphalt shingles, ceramic tile, or composite materials. Many insurers recognize this rating and offer premium discounts for homes with Class 4 roofs, potentially offsetting your installation cost over time. Packwood's freeze-thaw cycles and winter weather can produce hail, and aluminum's hardness means a single storm won't create roof-wide failures like it does with brittle tile or asphalt. Talk to your insurance agent about the UL 2218 rating—you may find savings that make the upgrade even more attractive financially.
How often do metal roofs need maintenance compared to asphalt or tile?
Metal roofs require far less maintenance than asphalt, wood, or tile—no seasonal patching, no moss treatments, no cracked shingle replacement. Asphalt shingles typically need repairs every 5–8 years in Packwood's wet climate; wood roofing requires regular sealing and inspection for rot and splits. Aluminum won't curl, split, rot, or lose granules no matter how many of your region's 51 annual freeze-thaw cycles it endures. The Alunar coating is warranted 30 years against chalking and fading, so color and finish stay stable through 2892 sunshine hours and 1181 mm of rain yearly. Occasional gutter cleaning and debris removal are all you'll do. That's it—no roof maintenance budget, no contractor calls, and no surprise failures mid-winter.
Is a metal roof worth the upfront cost over a typical asphalt roof's life?
Over a 50-year horizon, metal roofing typically costs less than asphalt when you account for replacements. Asphalt roofs last 15–20 years in Packwood's wet, freeze-thaw climate; you'll replace them 2–3 times before a metal roof reaches mid-life. Factor in labor, disposal, and material escalation over decades, and you're looking at $40,000–$60,000 in total replacements. Interlock's Guardian warranty is lifetime limited for the original owner and transferable for 50 years to the next owner, meaning no prorated deductibles—cover-to-cover protection. Right now, Interlock is offering no payments and no interest until Spring 2027 or 10% off installation. That financing window lets you move the cost to when cash flow suits you, making the per-year expense nearly identical to repeated asphalt replacements.
Who installs Interlock metal roofing in Packwood Heights?

As Interlock's authorized regional installer, they're trained on the four-way interlock system, proper flashing for your area's wind and rain exposure, and warranty paperwork.
