Interlock® Aluminum Roofing — all-climates performance specs for Swofford, Washington
| Spec / Rating | Climate / Risk Factor + What It Solves |
|---|---|
| Wind resistance: 120+ mph (193+ kph) | Extreme wind, hurricanes, storm uplift: full interlocking attachment helps prevent blow-offs, edge lifting, and panel loss in high-gust events. |
| Fire rating: Class A (with proper assembly) | Wildfire, embers, radiant heat, chimney sparks: non-combustible roof assembly provides the highest residential fire protection rating. |
| Hail resistance: UL 2218 Class 4 | Hail and impact debris: highest impact classification; resists cracking, splitting, and surface loss common with asphalt under hail strikes. |
| Snow & ice performance: interlocking, shedding profile | Heavy snow, freeze-thaw, ice dams: smooth aluminum sheds snow efficiently and the interlocking design helps block water intrusion when melt-refreeze cycles occur. (Final snow-load capacity depends on roof structure and local code.) |
| Corrosion resistance: aluminum (won’t rust) | Salt air, coastal humidity, wet climates: aluminum naturally resists rust and corrosion, reducing long-term failure risk in marine or high-moisture environments. |
| Heat / UV durability: baked-on coating system | High heat, intense sun, thermal cycling: coatings resist UV breakdown and temperature-swing fatigue, slowing fading and surface degradation. |
| Moss / algae resistance: smooth coated surface | Wet shade, organic growth: low-porosity metal surface gives moss/algae less to grip, reducing staining and maintenance. |
| Material: heavy-gauge aluminum roof profiles (Slate / Shake / Shingle / Tile / Standing Seam) | All-season structural stability: lightweight, dent-resistant metal system stays stable through large hot-cold swings and severe weather. |
| Expected lifespan: 50+ years | Long-term durability across climates: avoids re-roof cycles typical of shorter-life materials, even in high-stress environments. |
| Warranty: Lifetime-Limited, non-prorated + 50-year transferable | Lifetime protection + resale value: guarantees long-term material confidence and transfers to future owners. |

What our customers are saying:
Prompt service and very knowledgeable. Highly recommend.
My wife and I wanted a long-term roof and I think we found it. The product seems very good and are installer Daniel was terrific and a trooper put a lot of hours and a lot of time and made it look real nice when it was completed. I would recommend the company if you're looking for a metal roof.
Ivan Excellent will make it right!!
We needed a roof repair when our neighbors tree dropped a large limb through our roof. Ivan came And accessed The damage, Ordered the sheets we needed. He came back and did the whole Repair himself. So happy to have it fixed along with his recommendations to have the roof cleaned. We appreciate his skills in repairing The roof.
The Interlock associate Ivan, came did an awesome service in correcting the part needed to be corrected, he left us with instructions of what we needed to check and to get in touch with, if needed 😀 Ms. May the associate answering the phone was helpful for us to get prompt service. They are dependable. We received roof service.
The work was efficient and well done. The service, the people and team were great. Beautiful roof.
I highly appreciate the professionalism, workmanship and the quality of materials used. I don't doubt that it will be our forever roof and will not need to worry about replacement during the life of our house. Ross, Tony, Roma were all great throughout the new roof installation process.
We noticed water spots on the ceiling. Ivan came, found a hole likely caused by a branch in the recent wind storm. He repaired the hole on the spot. Thank you Ivan!
Ivan replaced our exhaust vent on the roof that had some leaking issue. We were impressed with his professionalism, courtesy and fixing the problem to our utmost satisfaction. We certainly would recommend him and the company for any roofing issues being it a new roof or repairs.
We recently had our roof replaced with interlock aluminum shingles and we love how it made our house stand out in our neighborhood. I would have given 5 stars but there were few things that I wanted to point out. Ross arrived on time and did an excellent presentation. I specifically asked him if their installers are contractors and his answer was no, they are employees of interlock. Turns out they are contractors which is no big deal as long as they do excellent work, it’s all about honesty. Prior to installation, the installers told me that it would take about two and a half days to finish which is great, I said no rush. The installation process took two weeks, I hope everything will go well this coming rainy season. The only thing I didn’t like was at the end of the day they leave their tools in the driveway just laying around and the worst they leave their microwave plugged into the outlet with damaged power cord. But with all things said, we love our new roof and only time will tell if it was worth the price.
Excellent contact and coordination with field representatives and installers/project manager.
We recently had our roof replaced with aluminum shingles and are very satisfied so far. - Easy Sales Process – Thank you Ross for making everything clear and straightforward from the start. - Great Value – The price was very reasonable compared to other estimates. - Better Than Expected – The finished look exceeded our expectations and really improved the appearance of our home. It’s not as glossy as we feared, which we like. - Fast & Efficient – The crew worked quickly and finished everything in just 2 days for our ~1,000 sq. ft. house with two layers of old shingles. - No Issues – No noise at all, despite common concerns about metal roofs. Tip for others: Ask for the exact model and size of vents that will be installed before the project starts. Our vents were only a few months old but couldn’t be reused, and the ones the company brought were the wrong size. The crew had to buy replacements last minute, which worked but don’t perfectly match.

Metal Roofing FAQs for Homeowners in Swofford
The following metal roofing FAQs are designed specifically for homeowners in Swofford, Washington. Whether you are building a new home or replacing an existing roof, understanding how roofing materials perform in local weather conditions is essential. From wind and storm protection to fire resistance, hail impact, snow loads, and coastal moisture exposure, Interlock’s Lifetime Aluminum Roofing System is engineered to provide long-term durability, energy efficiency, and peace of mind in Swofford.
Does metal roofing handle Swofford's heavy snow and ice buildup?
Yes. Interlock's four-way interlocking aluminum panels shed snow and ice effectively because the smooth, hard surface prevents adhesion and the standing-seam and shake profiles create natural channels for water runoff. Swofford receives about 253 cm of snow annually and experiences roughly 46 freeze-thaw days per year—conditions that degrade asphalt shingles through repeated expansion and contraction. Aluminum's oxide layer does not absorb moisture, so ice dams form less readily and meltwater drains cleanly. Snow guards are available if you want to retain snow for insulation or aesthetics.
Can aluminum metal roofing rust in a wet climate like Swofford?
Aluminum cannot rust because it contains no iron—rust requires iron oxidation. Instead, aluminum develops a protective oxide layer that self-heals when scratched, making it ideal for Swofford's 1759 mm annual rainfall. Interlock's roofing-grade 3105-H24 and 3003-H24 aluminum alloy (ASTM B209) is the same material used on coastal salt-air homes and an Antarctic research station. The Alunar 70% PVDF fluorocarbon coating is applied to both sides of every panel, adding a 30-year chalking and fading warranty (ASTM D4214/D2244 measured), so your investment remains protected through decades of wet Pacific Northwest winters.
What hail protection does metal roofing offer, and can I save on insurance?
Interlock achieves UL 2218 Class 4 impact rating—the highest available—and the Guardian Warranty covers perforation from hailstones up to 1.5 inches. Because aluminum's strength and non-denting design significantly reduce insurance claims compared to asphalt, many insurers offer discounts; contact yours with the UL 2218 Class 4 rating to explore savings. Swofford's typical wind gusts reach 108 km/h, and hail often accompanies severe wind events. The four-way interlocking panels also resist wind speeds up to 120 mph when installed to specification, so a single metal roof protects you against both hazards simultaneously.
How long will an aluminum metal roof last, and what does the warranty cover?
Interlock's Guardian Warranty is a lifetime limited, non-prorated material warranty for the original owner—covering rusting, rotting, splitting, cracking, curling, and loss of impact resistance. It is one-time transferable to the next owner for 50 years from completion, making it a significant selling point if you move. Installed correctly, Interlock has been manufactured since 1998 in Delta, BC, and panels from the early 2000s remain in service today. Swofford's freeze-thaw cycling (approximately 46 days per year) is one of the toughest tests for roofing materials; the aluminum's non-absorption and the interlocking design prevent the water infiltration and ice expansion that degrade asphalt or wood shingles.
Is a metal roof heavy enough to need structural reinforcement on my home?
No structural reinforcement is needed. Interlock's Mediterranean Tile profile installs at just 0.59 lb/sq ft—about 96% lighter than concrete or clay tile—and the Cedar Shingle weighs only 0.41 lb/sq ft. This extraordinarily light weight allows the metal roof to install over most existing roofs without strengthening the frame. In contrast, traditional tile or slate can require expensive structural upgrades. Swofford's 1759 mm annual rainfall and 253 cm of snow place real load on a roof, but aluminum's strength-to-weight ratio handles these conditions while your home's existing framing carries the weight easily. Many homeowners save thousands by avoiding structural work.
Does metal roofing provide fire protection in Swofford?
Yes. Interlock aluminum panels are non-combustible and available in Class A fire rating—the highest classification for fire resistance. Aluminum will not ignite or support flame, so embers cannot penetrate or ignite the decking beneath. This is a significant safety advantage in any climate and is verified under ICC-ES evaluation report ESR-1790 (reissued 2025 for IBC/IRC compliance). Some homeowners and insurance companies prioritize Class A roofing for peace of mind. Swofford's 2794 annual sunshine hours and dry summer months increase the wildfire risk season across the Pacific Northwest, making non-combustible roofing a practical investment in your home's resilience.
What maintenance does an aluminum metal roof need in a rainy climate?
Interlock requires minimal maintenance compared to asphalt, wood, or tile. The hard aluminum surface and Alunar fluorocarbon coating do not degrade, crack, curl, or attract moss or algae the way porous materials do. Occasional rinsing to remove debris is sufficient. In contrast, asphalt shingles deteriorate from Swofford's 1759 mm annual rainfall and require routine repairs; wood shakes split and rot; and tile requires regrouting. The CALGreen verification confirms Interlock's reduced-maintenance profile. Over a 30- or 40-year period, you save hundreds of hours and thousands in labor costs because your metal roof does not need replacement patches, coating refreshes, or seasonal cleaning like traditional materials.
How does metal roofing handle Swofford's heavy rainfall without leaks?
The four-way interlocking aluminum panels overlap in all directions, creating a labyrinth that redirects water downward and outward—not inward. Each panel locks to its neighbors at top, bottom, and sides, so water follows channels into gutters rather than seeping through fastener holes or panel edges. Swofford receives about 1759 mm of rain yearly, and this overlapping design handles sustained downpours that can overwhelm traditional shingles. The aluminum does not absorb moisture, so the substrate stays dry even during weeks of Pacific Northwest rain. Combined with proper deck preparation and underlayment during installation by Interlock Metal Roofing (PNW) Inc., the result is a watertight roof that homeowners can trust through decades of wet winters.
Is a metal roof worth the upfront cost compared to asphalt shingles?
Metal roofing costs more initially but is the last roof you will buy, making it far less expensive over the roof's life. Asphalt shingles typically last 15–20 years in Swofford's freeze-thaw climate (about 46 days per year of cycling), requiring replacement twice or three times in 50 years—each time involving tear-off labor, disposal fees, and new installation. Interlock's Guardian Warranty lasts a lifetime for the original owner (50 years transferable), eliminating re-roofing costs and hassle. The math favors metal: one installation, one warranty, no future expense. Add energy savings (energy-efficiency colors reflect heat that asphalt absorbs), potential insurance discounts, and increased resale value, and metal roofing typically breaks even around year 15–20, then provides pure savings.
Can a metal roof withstand Swofford's winter windstorms?
Yes. Interlock's four-way interlocking aluminum panels are warranted to resist wind speeds up to 120 mph (193 km/h) when installed to specification. Swofford experiences typical daily-max winds of about 12 km/h with gusts reaching 108 km/h—well within the metal roof's design capacity. The interlocking mechanism means each panel is secured not just by fasteners but also by the mechanical grip of its neighbors, distributing wind loads across the entire assembly rather than concentrating stress on individual fasteners. This redundancy is why metal roofing outperforms shingles in gusty conditions: shingles rely on nails alone and can lift or tear under pressure, while the interlocking design strengthens the system as it ages.
