Review: October 14, 2025

We recently had our roof replaced with interlock aluminum shingles and we love how it made our house stand out in our neighborhood. I would have given 5 stars but there were few things that I wanted to point out. Ross arrived on time and did an excellent presentation. I specifically asked him if their installers are contractors and his answer was no, they are employees of interlock. Turns out they are contractors which is no big deal as long as they do excellent work, it’s all about honesty. Prior to installation, the installers told me that it would take about two and a half days to finish which is great, I said no rush. The installation process took two weeks, I hope everything will go well this coming rainy season. The only thing I didn’t like was at the end of the day they leave their tools in the driveway just laying around and the worst they leave their microwave plugged into the outlet with damaged power cord. But with all things said, we love our new roof and only time will tell if it was worth the price.

Review: August 23, 2025

We recently had our roof replaced with aluminum shingles and are very satisfied so far. - Easy Sales Process – Thank you Ross for making everything clear and straightforward from the start. - Great Value – The price was very reasonable compared to other estimates. - Better Than Expected – The finished look exceeded our expectations and really improved the appearance of our home. It’s not as glossy as we feared, which we like. - Fast & Efficient – The crew worked quickly and finished everything in just 2 days for our ~1,000 sq. ft. house with two layers of old shingles. - No Issues – No noise at all, despite common concerns about metal roofs. Tip for others: Ask for the exact model and size of vents that will be installed before the project starts. Our vents were only a few months old but couldn’t be reused, and the ones the company brought were the wrong size. The crew had to buy replacements last minute, which worked but don’t perfectly match.

Metal Roofing FAQs for Homeowners in Skokomish

The following metal roofing FAQs are designed specifically for homeowners in Skokomish, Washington. Whether you are building a new home or replacing an existing roof, understanding how roofing materials perform in local weather conditions is essential. From wind and storm protection to fire resistance, hail impact, snow loads, and coastal moisture exposure, Interlock’s Lifetime Aluminum Roofing System is engineered to provide long-term durability, energy efficiency, and peace of mind in Skokomish.

Can a metal roof rust in the Pacific Northwest's wet climate?

No—Interlock uses roofing-grade 3105-H24 aluminum alloy, which contains no iron and cannot rust, period. The metal develops a self-healing oxide layer that actually protects it from corrosion, even when scratched. With Skokomish averaging 1362 mm of rain annually and coastal salt air in the region, aluminum's inherent rust-immunity means you're not fighting chemistry like you would with steel. The Alunar 70% PVDF fluorocarbon coating adds another 30-year barrier against the elements, so corrosion simply isn't a failure mode for this roof.

How does a metal roof handle snow and ice buildup in Skokomish winters?

Metal roofs shed snow efficiently because panels are smooth and slightly pitched, but Skokomish's 33 cm average annual snowfall and 16 freeze-thaw days mean ice dams can still form in gutters and valleys. Interlock's four-way interlocking panels create a monolithic surface that resists water infiltration if ice backs up, and the lightweight design (Cedar Shingle installs at 0.41 lb/sq ft) means no structural risk from snow load. Adding snow guards is simple if you want to prevent sliding and protect landscaping—your installer can size them based on roof pitch and your exposure.

With 1362 mm of rain yearly, will water leak through the panel seams?

Four-way interlocking panels overlap in multiple directions, creating a rain-shedding system that sheds water faster than it can pool—the metal itself is the weather barrier, not sealant. Heavy rainfall runs off immediately because aluminum has no absorption; compare that to asphalt shingles, which slowly saturate and fail at the seams. Your installer ensures proper deck preparation and uses flashing at penetrations, following ICC-ES ESR-1790 specifications. Thousands of Interlock roofs perform in BC's rain-drenched Pacific climate, so Skokomish's rainfall volume poses no leak risk when installed to spec.

Will a metal roof hold up to Skokomish's wind gusts?

Yes. Interlock panels are four-way interlocked—each panel locks to its neighbors on all sides—and the roof is warranted to resist wind speeds up to 120 mph (193 km/h) when fastened to specification. Skokomish experiences typical daily-max winds around 16 km/h with gusts to 90 km/h, well below that threshold. The interlocking system distributes uplift forces across the entire roof rather than concentrating stress on individual fasteners, so wind events that might lift shingles leave a metal roof completely secure. Your local installer knows the regional wind patterns and will confirm proper fastening.

Do I need to reinforce my roof structure for a metal roof?

Almost certainly not. The Mediterranean Tile profile—which replicates the heaviest traditional material—installs at just 0.59 lb/sq ft, about 96% lighter than real concrete or clay tile. Most roofs can accept Interlock over existing shingles without any structural work because the panels are so light. Your local installer will assess your framing during the estimate, but the vast majority of Skokomish homes skip reinforcement entirely. This also means faster installation and lower labor costs, since there's no need for the structural engineer visits or beam upgrades that heavy slate or tile would demand.

Can you install a metal roof over my existing asphalt shingles?

Yes, in most cases. Interlock installs directly over existing shingles if the deck is sound, which saves you tear-off labor and landfill costs. Your installer inspects for rot, soft spots, or major irregularities—Skokomish's 33 cm annual snow and 1362 mm rain mean your existing deck has weathered real exposure, so we verify it's stable. If the old roof is flat or severely damaged, tear-off is the smarter choice. Either way, installation takes days, not weeks. Interlock Metal Roofing (PNW) Inc. has served the region since 1997 and knows local building codes, so they'll guide you to the right approach for your home.

Will a metal roof reduce my cooling costs in summer?

Interlock's energy-efficient colors reflect solar heat rather than absorbing it the way dark asphalt does. The coating achieves initial solar reflectance up to 0.55 (measured on Aged Copper Penny) and thermal emissivity of 0.84, meaning less heat enters your attic on Skokomish's 2915 annual sunshine hours. You won't need air conditioning in the PNW, but this reflectivity does reduce the burden on your ventilation and keeps second-story rooms more comfortable during warm spells. Over a 30-year roof life, the cooling benefit adds up, especially if you're replacing a dark or aged asphalt roof that absorbs heat like a parking lot.

How much maintenance does a metal roof actually need?

Far less than asphalt, wood, or tile. Aluminum doesn't rot, split, curl, or degrade the way those materials do—you're not replacing shingles, repainting wood shakes, or re-mortaring tile. Gutters need cleaning (true for any roof), and leaves should be swept off periodically, but there's no stripping, coating, or re-fastening. Interlock's Alunar 70% PVDF finish is rated for 30 years against chalking and fading, so the roof's color and sealing integrity hold steady through Skokomish's 16 annual freeze-thaw cycles. The Guardian Warranty even covers hail perforation up to 1.5 inches, so damage claims are handled, not repair headaches.

How long does a metal roof last, and what's actually covered by the warranty?

The Guardian Warranty is a lifetime limited, non-prorated material guarantee for you—it covers rust, rot, split, crack, curl, and loss of impact resistance with zero material deductible. If you sell, the next owner inherits a 50-year transferable term, making Interlock a genuine last-roof-you-buy investment. Most asphalt shingles last 15–20 years; metal roofs routinely exceed 50 years in coastal and harsh climates. Interlock has been manufactured in Delta, BC since 1998 and installed from salt-air homes to Antarctic research stations, so the durability claim is backed by real-world performance in conditions as demanding as Skokomish's 1362 mm annual rainfall and freeze-thaw exposure.

Is a metal roof fire-safe, especially in a wooded area?

Aluminum is non-combustible—it won't ignite or spread fire. Interlock offers Class A fire classification (the highest available) and complies with ICC-ES evaluation report ESR-1790 for IBC/IRC codes. Class A means your roof is defensible in wildfire scenarios and meets or exceeds fire codes for residential construction. Skokomish is forested, so fire safety matters; a metal roof won't become a liability during extreme fire weather. Your home insurance provider may even recognize the non-combustible roofing as a risk reduction, potentially lowering premiums. It's one of metal roofing's clearest advantages over asphalt, wood, or composite materials.
