Interlock® Aluminum Roofing — all-climates performance specs for West Shelton, Washington
| Spec / Rating | Climate / Risk Factor + What It Solves |
|---|---|
| Wind resistance: 120+ mph (193+ kph) | Extreme wind, hurricanes, storm uplift: full interlocking attachment helps prevent blow-offs, edge lifting, and panel loss in high-gust events. |
| Fire rating: Class A (with proper assembly) | Wildfire, embers, radiant heat, chimney sparks: non-combustible roof assembly provides the highest residential fire protection rating. |
| Hail resistance: UL 2218 Class 4 | Hail and impact debris: highest impact classification; resists cracking, splitting, and surface loss common with asphalt under hail strikes. |
| Snow & ice performance: interlocking, shedding profile | Heavy snow, freeze-thaw, ice dams: smooth aluminum sheds snow efficiently and the interlocking design helps block water intrusion when melt-refreeze cycles occur. (Final snow-load capacity depends on roof structure and local code.) |
| Corrosion resistance: aluminum (won’t rust) | Salt air, coastal humidity, wet climates: aluminum naturally resists rust and corrosion, reducing long-term failure risk in marine or high-moisture environments. |
| Heat / UV durability: baked-on coating system | High heat, intense sun, thermal cycling: coatings resist UV breakdown and temperature-swing fatigue, slowing fading and surface degradation. |

What our customers are saying:
Prompt service and very knowledgeable. Highly recommend.
My wife and I wanted a long-term roof and I think we found it. The product seems very good and are installer Daniel was terrific and a trooper put a lot of hours and a lot of time and made it look real nice when it was completed. I would recommend the company if you're looking for a metal roof.
Ivan Excellent will make it right!!
We needed a roof repair when our neighbors tree dropped a large limb through our roof. Ivan came And accessed The damage, Ordered the sheets we needed. He came back and did the whole Repair himself. So happy to have it fixed along with his recommendations to have the roof cleaned. We appreciate his skills in repairing The roof.
The Interlock associate Ivan, came did an awesome service in correcting the part needed to be corrected, he left us with instructions of what we needed to check and to get in touch with, if needed 😀 Ms. May the associate answering the phone was helpful for us to get prompt service. They are dependable. We received roof service.
The work was efficient and well done. The service, the people and team were great. Beautiful roof.
I highly appreciate the professionalism, workmanship and the quality of materials used. I don't doubt that it will be our forever roof and will not need to worry about replacement during the life of our house. Ross, Tony, Roma were all great throughout the new roof installation process.
We noticed water spots on the ceiling. Ivan came, found a hole likely caused by a branch in the recent wind storm. He repaired the hole on the spot. Thank you Ivan!
Ivan replaced our exhaust vent on the roof that had some leaking issue. We were impressed with his professionalism, courtesy and fixing the problem to our utmost satisfaction. We certainly would recommend him and the company for any roofing issues being it a new roof or repairs.
We recently had our roof replaced with interlock aluminum shingles and we love how it made our house stand out in our neighborhood. I would have given 5 stars but there were few things that I wanted to point out. Ross arrived on time and did an excellent presentation. I specifically asked him if their installers are contractors and his answer was no, they are employees of interlock. Turns out they are contractors which is no big deal as long as they do excellent work, it’s all about honesty. Prior to installation, the installers told me that it would take about two and a half days to finish which is great, I said no rush. The installation process took two weeks, I hope everything will go well this coming rainy season. The only thing I didn’t like was at the end of the day they leave their tools in the driveway just laying around and the worst they leave their microwave plugged into the outlet with damaged power cord. But with all things said, we love our new roof and only time will tell if it was worth the price.
Excellent contact and coordination with field representatives and installers/project manager.
We recently had our roof replaced with aluminum shingles and are very satisfied so far. - Easy Sales Process – Thank you Ross for making everything clear and straightforward from the start. - Great Value – The price was very reasonable compared to other estimates. - Better Than Expected – The finished look exceeded our expectations and really improved the appearance of our home. It’s not as glossy as we feared, which we like. - Fast & Efficient – The crew worked quickly and finished everything in just 2 days for our ~1,000 sq. ft. house with two layers of old shingles. - No Issues – No noise at all, despite common concerns about metal roofs. Tip for others: Ask for the exact model and size of vents that will be installed before the project starts. Our vents were only a few months old but couldn’t be reused, and the ones the company brought were the wrong size. The crew had to buy replacements last minute, which worked but don’t perfectly match.

Metal Roofing FAQs for Homeowners in West Shelton
The following metal roofing FAQs are designed specifically for homeowners in West Shelton, Washington. Whether you are building a new home or replacing an existing roof, understanding how roofing materials perform in local weather conditions is essential. From wind and storm protection to fire resistance, hail impact, snow loads, and coastal moisture exposure, Interlock’s Lifetime Aluminum Roofing System is engineered to provide long-term durability, energy efficiency, and peace of mind in West Shelton.
How does a metal roof handle West Shelton's heavy snow and freeze-thaw cycles?
Metal roofs shed snow efficiently because aluminum's smooth, hard surface resists ice dam formation better than asphalt shingles. West Shelton averages about 40 cm of snow annually with roughly 34 freeze-thaw days per year—conditions that accelerate degradation in conventional roofing. Interlock's four-way interlocking panels are warranted to 120 mph wind speeds, so the weight of accumulated snow won't stress the system. The aluminum won't degrade from repeated freeze-thaw cycling because it contains no iron and cannot rust; its protective Alunar coating remains intact through seasonal temperature swings. Optional snow guards keep runoff managed. Your roof survives—not endures—this cycle.
Does heavy rain cause leaks in a metal roof?
West Shelton receives approximately 1370 mm of rain annually—well above the U.S. average—requiring a roof that handles sustained moisture without fail. Interlock's four-way interlocking aluminum panels create overlapping seams that shed water by design; combined with proper underlayment and a solid deck, the system achieves the same leak protection as asphalt shingles but without the degradation asphalt experiences under constant wet. Because aluminum cannot rust and its oxide layer self-heals when scratched, even micro-damage during installation doesn't create entry points for rot or corrosion. The ESR-1790 evaluation confirms performance under IBC/IRC rainfall standards. Heavy rain doesn't challenge this roof—it proves its value.
Why does aluminum roofing not rust like steel, and why does that matter in Washington?
Aluminum cannot rust because it contains no iron—the element that oxidizes and flakes away in steel. When aluminum's surface is scratched or exposed, it immediately forms a new protective oxide layer automatically; this self-healing property is physical chemistry, not a coating. In Washington's damp climate with 1370 mm annual rainfall and coastal salt-air influences reaching into inland regions, this matters enormously. Steel roofing requires constant paint maintenance to prevent rust stains and structural failure. Interlock aluminum is roofing-grade 3105-H24 / 3003-H24 alloy (ASTM B209), sealed with a 30-year Alunar 70% PVDF coating on both sides for extra salt-air protection. Your roof won't corrode; you won't chase rust repair bills across decades.
Can my house support a metal roof, or do I need expensive structural work?
No structural reinforcement is needed. Interlock's Slate profile installs at 0.41 lb per square foot—roughly the weight of six ounces spread across a sheet of paper. The Mediterranean Tile, despite replicating clay or concrete tile (which weigh 15+ pounds per square foot), is approximately 96% lighter, so your existing framing handles it without modification. This weight advantage also means Interlock installs directly over most existing roofs—no costly tear-off and no landfill disposal. West Shelton's typical wind gusts reach 99 km/h with occasional spikes higher; light weight combined with four-way interlocking panels and 120 mph wind-resistance warranty means the roof stays secure without structural stress. You invest in roofing, not in reinforcing walls.
Does a metal roof blow off in high winds around West Shelton?
No. Interlock's four-way interlocking aluminum panels and fastening system are engineered and warranted to resist sustained winds up to 120 mph (193 km/h)—far exceeding West Shelton's typical daily-max winds of about 16 km/h and gusts near 99 km/h. The interlocking design means each panel mechanically locks to its neighbors in four directions; a single fastener cannot fail the entire roof. This exceeds the UL 2218 Class 4 impact standard (hail up to 1.5 inches) because wind and hail-impact resistance both require material durability and system integrity. Your local weather cannot dislodge or lift a properly installed Interlock roof. Insurance companies recognize this; some offer wind-resistance discounts.
What's the real lifespan of a metal roof, and what does the warranty actually cover?
Interlock carries a lifetime limited, non-prorated material warranty for the original owner—covering rusting, rotting, splitting, cracking, curling, and loss of impact resistance. That's transferable once: the next owner receives 50 years of coverage from completion, adding genuine resale value. The Alunar coating itself is warranted 30 years against chalking and fading (measured to ASTM D4214 / D2244 standards), so the roof's appearance outlasts most mortgages. Because aluminum cannot rust, the limiting factor is the fasteners and the coating, not the metal itself. Research installations from coastal salt-air homes to Antarctica's research station—some running 25+ years in extreme conditions—demonstrates longevity far beyond asphalt's typical 15–20-year service life. You're buying the last roof you'll install.
Is a metal roof worth the upfront cost compared to asphalt shingles over 25 years?
Over a 25-year period, metal roofing becomes cost-competitive and often cheaper. Asphalt requires replacement every 15–20 years (two or three roof jobs), plus ongoing maintenance and two to three expensive tear-offs. Interlock eliminates the tear-off cycle—it installs over existing roofs—and requires no seasonal maintenance. Asphalt's aging (chalking, fading, granule loss) accelerates in West Shelton's 1370 mm annual rainfall and 34 freeze-thaw days; metal shrugs off both. The current regional promotion offers no payments and no interest until Spring 2027 or 10% off installation, lowering entry cost immediately. Factor in 30-year coating durability, 120 mph wind warranty, UL 2218 Class 4 hail coverage, and potential insurance discounts. You stop replacing roofs; the math shifts in your favor.
Is metal roofing fire-safe for homes in Washington?
Yes. Interlock aluminum roofing achieves Class A fire classification (the highest available) because aluminum is non-combustible; it cannot ignite or spread flame. This matters in Washington, where wildfire risk is increasing and many homeowners' insurers now require Class A or Class B roofing. The ICC-ES evaluation (ESR-1790, reissued 2025) confirms compliance with IBC/IRC fire standards. Class A rating may qualify you for homeowner's insurance premium reductions—an ongoing financial benefit that compounds over the roof's 25+ year lifespan. Asphalt shingles are Class C or unrated, meaning they can fuel a structure fire. If fire resilience and insurance savings are priorities, this is a concrete advantage, not a marketing claim.
Do metal roofs reduce cooling costs in summer?
Yes, energy-efficient Interlock colors reflect more solar heat than asphalt. The coating's thermal emissivity is 0.84 and initial solar reflectance reaches 0.55 in lighter hues like Aged Copper Penny—meaning less heat enters the home and your air conditioner works less. West Shelton averages about 2881 sunshine hours annually; even in the Pacific Northwest's cloudier seasons, reflective coatings reduce peak cooling demand. Cool Roof Rating Council certification verifies performance against industry standards. The energy savings depend on roof color and your cooling use, but measurable reduction in summer cooling costs is documented for energy-efficiency homes. Combined with the roof's 30-year coating durability, reflective performance persists for decades. You're not just buying durability; you're buying an active energy asset.
How much upkeep does a metal roof need compared to asphalt or wood shake?
Almost none. Interlock aluminum requires no seasonal maintenance, no resealing, no moss or algae treatment, and no granule-loss cleanup. Asphalt shingles need gutter cleaning as granules shed (especially in wet climates like West Shelton's 1370 mm annual rainfall), roof inspections after wind gusts near 99 km/h, and eventual replacement. Wood shake roofs demand annual fungicide treatment in moist Pacific Northwest conditions, regular inspection for rot, and expensive repairs when individual shakes split. Interlock is CALGreen-verified for reduced maintenance. Your only task is occasional gutter cleaning—the same as any roof. The aluminum's self-healing oxide layer and Alunar coating handle weathering automatically. Over 25 years, you recover hundreds of hours and thousands of dollars by not maintaining a traditional roof.
