Review: December 10, 2020

Just a few days ago my husband and I were excited to see our new Interlock aluminum roof completed in the gorgeous eye popping finish of copper penny shake topping our newly purchased log home in Bellingham WA. We are so thankful for the signage that the company uses when completing new roofs because when we were first looking at our home and considering a purchase we happened to drive by a house just down the road that had the same " title="copper" data-wpil-keyword-link="linked">copper finish aluminum Interlock roof that we eventually decided on. Seeing this roof installed on another house was the impetus that we needed to call the company and begin our inquiry well before we even purchased our home. We did our homework and considered other roofing materials and companies, but Interlock stood out in our minds as our top choice. The Interlock salesmen, Ross and Paul also went out of their way to come and look at the home and the roofing and bring samples to put on the roof for us to see during our inspection period. They also met with us immediately after closing on a Sunday as we wanted to lock in on a date for installation as soon as we could. We have a very large square footage of roofing, as well as a roof line that is very prominent on the house and we wanted to do something to enhance the stately character for what is definitely a very magical house and property. We have only now owned our house for less than two months, and already have our beautiful new roof completely installed. As we closed on our house in mid-October and we live in the Pacific NW near the Canadian border, this is already a feat. The team of roofers who were sent by Interlock to do our installation were some of the hardest working, most focused, and skilled labor crew we have had the pleasure of coming across. They completed the job in 2.5 weeks, working weekdays and Saturdays, arriving at 7:30 AM and working until 6 PM into the darkness with headlamps on. They worked in rain, cold, and very windy conditions, removing 90,000 lbs. of clay " data-wpil-keyword-link="linked">tile roofing and replacing it with the Interlock 100 year warrantied high quality roofing. The team was extremely respectful, also replacing a skylight that we added to the job mid-way and reinforcing roofing around other skylights that appeared to be leaking. All members of the Interlock company that we have spoken with or had contact with otherwise have been friendly and personable, respectful, and quickly and effectively addressed any questions or issues that we have brought to their attention. We feel safe and secure under our beautiful and functional Interlock roof that is quiet when it rains and lets the water run off in rivulets into the eaves. We thank everyone at Interlock and hope to have a long and successful relationship with Interlock and our new roof.

We are very pleased with our new roof installed by Interlock Metal Roofing. The house looks beautiful, more than I imagined. You Paul Wright, as our salesman, are appreciated for all the information about the product and the no pressure approach you do. The installers were wonderful. They were great to work with—cleaned the area around the house each night. Our house was three days from start to finish …amazing to watch. We couldn’t be happier with the service and the product.

This is probably the most professional experience I have had in years. I was blown away. From the time I contacted them, they were on time and did exactly what they said they would do the whole way through. Someone is doing an excellent job of directing this company. I need to contact Paul or Ross because I have more roofs to put on. I would give them a rating of 475! My roof cost twice as much as any other bid, but I am ten times happier than I would have been with any other roof. People who see this roof compliment me on it. It will be spectacular once I finish the entire roof. The roof is stunning! There was no snow on the new roof when it stopped snowing last week; the snow simply slid off. It was incredible.

Review: October 26, 1999

What a substantial difference the Interlock aluminum roof has made to the appearance of my hundred year old house. The haunted house look changed instantly into desirable real estate. The people who sold me the house have said they wish they had asked more for it now! My previous roofer, who I have used for many years on five different roofs with excellent results; drove by and said he knew it was a good job. He also wanted to recommend Interlock roofing to another customer who wanted something better than composition roofing. The service was great, the sheet metal engineers were industrious, exacting workers, and there have been no problems with anything. It looks so solid and neat; I cannot describe it exactly, but I will never be happy with composition roofing again. The leaves slide right off so it is always clean, and shows off the gables and fancy lines of the house so well... I love it!

Metal Roofing FAQs for Homeowners in Sunset Beach

The following metal roofing FAQs are designed specifically for homeowners in Sunset Beach, Washington. Whether you are building a new home or replacing an existing roof, understanding how roofing materials perform in local weather conditions is essential. From wind and storm protection to fire resistance, hail impact, snow loads, and coastal moisture exposure, Interlock’s Lifetime Aluminum Roofing System is engineered to provide long-term durability, energy efficiency, and peace of mind in Sunset Beach.

Can I get a metal roof that looks like slate, cedar shake, or tile without the weight problems?

Yes—Interlock offers five profiles: Slate, Cedar Shingle, Shake, Standing Seam, and Mediterranean Tile, each with authentic texture and shadow lines. The Mediterranean Tile profile is about 96% lighter than real clay or concrete tile, so your existing structure needs no reinforcement. In Sunset Beach's wet climate with about 1362 mm annual rainfall and 33 cm of snow, this matters: a heavy tile roof can trap moisture in the framing, whereas aluminum's light weight and non-corrosive properties protect both the aesthetic you want and the structural integrity of your home.

Is a metal roof cheaper than asphalt shingles over 30 or 40 years?

Metal roofing costs more upfront but becomes the last roof you buy. Asphalt typically lasts 15–20 years and requires tear-off, disposal, and reinstallation; Interlock carries a lifetime limited warranty for the original owner and remains transferable for 50 years after completion. Factor in Whatcom County's 16 freeze-thaw cycles annually—a major asphalt killer—plus 1362 mm of rain and wind gusts to 90 km/h: aluminum doesn't degrade under these stresses. Current financing offers no payments and no interest until Spring 2027 or 10% off installation, which shortens the payback window considerably.

What exactly does the Guardian Warranty cover and how long does it last?

The Guardian is a lifetime limited, non-prorated material warranty for the original owner, covering rusting, rotting, splitting, cracking, curling, and loss of impact resistance. It transfers once to the next owner with a 50-year term from completion. Because Interlock panels are roofing-grade 3105-H24 and 3003-H24 aluminum alloy (ASTM B209), they cannot rust—the oxide layer self-heals if scratched. The Alunar 70% PVDF fluorocarbon finish is warranted 30 years against chalking and fading, giving homeowners in rainy Sunset Beach (averaging 2915 sunshine hours per year) peace of mind that color and integrity will persist.

Why doesn't an aluminum metal roof rust like steel roofing does, especially near salt air?

Aluminum contains no iron, so it chemically cannot rust. Instead, it naturally forms a microscopically thin oxide layer that protects the metal and self-heals when scratched—a process that continues for the life of the roof. Interlock's Alunar 70% PVDF fluorocarbon finish is applied to both sides of every panel, providing extra defense in coastal and salt-air environments. This dual-sided coating is why Interlock panels install from coastal homes to an Antarctic research station. In Sunset Beach's wet, occasionally salty marine air, this corrosion immunity is a structural asset that asphalt and wood cannot match.

Can I get a Class A fire rating with a metal roof, and does it matter in Washington?

Yes, Interlock offers Class A fire classification because aluminum is non-combustible and will not sustain flame. Class A is the highest fire rating available and is increasingly required by insurers and building codes, especially in regions prone to wildfires or in communities with strict fire ordinances. Interlock's ICC-ES evaluation report ESR-1790 (reissued 2025) confirms compliance with IBC/IRC standards. While Sunset Beach's maritime climate and 33 cm average annual snow make wildfire risk lower than inland Whatcom County areas, a non-combustible roof can still lower insurance premiums and provide long-term peace of mind.

How much maintenance does a metal roof need compared to asphalt or wood shakes?

Interlock metal roofing requires minimal maintenance: occasional rinses to clear debris, and inspection of gutters—similar to asphalt but without the moss, algae, and granule loss that plague shingles in wet climates. Unlike wood shakes, which absorb moisture, split, and require staining or sealing every few years, aluminum is inert and CALGreen-verified for reduced maintenance. Given Sunset Beach's 1362 mm annual rainfall and 16 freeze-thaw days per year, asphalt shingles degrade rapidly from constant wetting and ice damage; metal panels' four-way interlocking design sheds water instantly and resists freeze-thaw stress, keeping your maintenance burden and long-term costs substantially lower.

Will a metal roof improve my home's resale value in Sunset Beach?

A durable, distinctive metal roof that replicates slate, tile, or cedar shake attracts buyer attention and signals quality stewardship—you've chosen the last roof the next owner will need to install. The transferable 50-year warranty term is itself a selling point, especially in Whatcom County where weather extremes (wind gusts to 90 km/h, 1362 mm rain, 33 cm snow) wear out conventional roofs early. Buyers recognize that aluminum won't rust, won't need replacement, and will maintain its color and visual appeal over decades. The combination of aesthetic choice, durability warranty, and zero future roofing expense creates tangible resale appeal that asphalt cannot offer.

How long does installation take, and can you install a metal roof over my existing shingles?

Installation timeline depends on roof size and complexity, typically days rather than weeks. Yes, Interlock's light weight—the Shingle profile installs at about 0.41 lb per square foot, the Shake at 0.58 lb/sq ft—means panels can install directly over most existing roofs without structural reinforcement. In Sunset Beach, avoiding a tear-off saves time, cost, and landfill impact during your region's rainy season (averaging 1362 mm annually), which keeps the job site dry and safer. Interlock Metal Roofing (PNW) Inc. has served the region since 1997 and understands local permitting and the best timing to coordinate with Whatcom County weather patterns.

Will snow and ice damage accumulate on a metal roof, or will it shed properly in winter?

Metal roofs shed snow and ice more effectively than asphalt because their smooth, interlocking surface offers no grip for ice dams—water runs off instead of pooling. Sunset Beach averages 33 cm of snow per year and 16 freeze-thaw cycles, making this behavior critical: ice dams on asphalt shingles trap meltwater, leading to leaks and wood rot. Interlock's four-way interlocking panels are warranted to resist wind speeds up to 120 mph, so shifting snow loads and wind won't compromise the seal. If you opt for snow guards to manage avalanche risk on steep roofs, they install easily. The aluminum's light weight also means no excessive load on your home's frame during heavy snow events.

Do I need to reinforce my roof structure to support a metal roof as heavy as slate or tile?

No structural reinforcement is needed. Interlock's Mediterranean Tile profile weighs about 0.59 lb per square foot—roughly 96% lighter than real concrete or clay tile—and the Slate profile is equally light. This allows installation over existing roofs and eliminates costly framing upgrades. Real slate tile can weigh 10–15 lbs per square foot; Interlock delivers the authentic appearance with a fraction of the load. In Sunset Beach, where homes must withstand 1362 mm of rainfall, 33 cm of snow, and wind gusts to 90 km/h, a lighter roof actually improves structural resilience by reducing stress on aging beams and connections while maintaining the high-end curb appeal of traditional materials.
