| Spec / Rating | Climate / Risk Factor + What It Solves |
|---|---|
| Wind resistance: 120+ mph (193+ kph) | Extreme wind, hurricanes, storm uplift: full interlocking attachment helps prevent blow-offs, edge lifting, and panel loss in high-gust events. |
| Fire rating: Class A (with proper assembly) | Wildfire, embers, radiant heat, chimney sparks: non-combustible roof assembly provides the highest residential fire protection rating. |
| Hail resistance: UL 2218 Class 4 | Hail and impact debris: highest impact classification; resists cracking, splitting, and surface loss common with asphalt under hail strikes. |
| Snow & ice performance: interlocking, shedding profile | Heavy snow, freeze-thaw, ice dams: smooth aluminum sheds snow efficiently and the interlocking design helps block water intrusion when melt-refreeze cycles occur. (Final snow-load capacity depends on roof structure and local code.) |

What our customers are saying:
Over all a good experience, but it's hard to recommend something after such a short time and people's needs are different. See above comments I think it's hard to evaluate a new roof with a lifetime warranty after a very short time and very little rain, but so far we're very happy.
Overall I didn’t have the greatest experience but that was primarily from the contracted installation crew and their lack of follow through with doing the roof right the first time. Otherwise I’m happy with the way the roof looks and the quality. And despite having to have part of it redone I appreciated the interlock rep going up in my attic and making the crew redo it correctly so I had a quality job. His honesty about the situation went a long way. I would have liked to choose when they were coming. When you’re paying upwards of 50k for a roof I would think you could have some say.
They can improve with a better communication between the installation crew and the client. If there was an Interlock member with the crew as a translator, that could have helped. The installation crew need more tarps and a magnet to pick up the remaining debris of nails. There was asphalt dust all over the yard. I believe it will be a good roof.
Just a few days ago my husband and I were excited to see our new Interlock aluminum roof completed in the gorgeous eye popping finish of copper penny shake topping our newly purchased log home in Bellingham WA. We are so thankful for the signage that the company uses when completing new roofs because when we were first looking at our home and considering a purchase we happened to drive by a house just down the road that had the same " title="copper" data-wpil-keyword-link="linked">copper finish aluminum Interlock roof that we eventually decided on. Seeing this roof installed on another house was the impetus that we needed to call the company and begin our inquiry well before we even purchased our home. We did our homework and considered other roofing materials and companies, but Interlock stood out in our minds as our top choice. The Interlock salesmen, Ross and Paul also went out of their way to come and look at the home and the roofing and bring samples to put on the roof for us to see during our inspection period. They also met with us immediately after closing on a Sunday as we wanted to lock in on a date for installation as soon as we could. We have a very large square footage of roofing, as well as a roof line that is very prominent on the house and we wanted to do something to enhance the stately character for what is definitely a very magical house and property. We have only now owned our house for less than two months, and already have our beautiful new roof completely installed. As we closed on our house in mid-October and we live in the Pacific NW near the Canadian border, this is already a feat. The team of roofers who were sent by Interlock to do our installation were some of the hardest working, most focused, and skilled labor crew we have had the pleasure of coming across. They completed the job in 2.5 weeks, working weekdays and Saturdays, arriving at 7:30 AM and working until 6 PM into the darkness with headlamps on. They worked in rain, cold, and very windy conditions, removing 90,000 lbs. of clay " data-wpil-keyword-link="linked">tile roofing and replacing it with the Interlock 100 year warrantied high quality roofing. The team was extremely respectful, also replacing a skylight that we added to the job mid-way and reinforcing roofing around other skylights that appeared to be leaking. All members of the Interlock company that we have spoken with or had contact with otherwise have been friendly and personable, respectful, and quickly and effectively addressed any questions or issues that we have brought to their attention. We feel safe and secure under our beautiful and functional Interlock roof that is quiet when it rains and lets the water run off in rivulets into the eaves. We thank everyone at Interlock and hope to have a long and successful relationship with Interlock and our new roof.
Correcting the one error quickly. i would like to suggest they look into a better way to do the nailing. The nails are popping through under our roof and it doesn't look very nice. Otherwise we love our roof.
Paul is a great guy. The biggest disappointment is that we couldn't go with Paul.
Not for existing properties. If new construction yes. I have several siblings living in this town in over million dollar homes and they have heard my frustrations. First change the wording in your acceptance letter from available 24-7 availability to Monday through Friday time zone available.Making sure someone has on-call contact for emergencies (leaking roof).Being able to return calls, scheduled dates. Initial sales pitch should match what is on line with regards to the actual warranty-false sales pitch really is a sticker to us. The crew really should take consideration of laying the tarps (I saw but never used)-could prevent leaking roof. Also I have a cover on my garage that would be very expensive to replace had their metal pieces hit it is such a way as to put tears in it. I noted several things fall from roof onto this covering.
Communication, follow up, status checks, etc. I received a confirmation of final payment about a month later and still have not received warranty documents. ( as of March 1st) Final check written on January 22. Job finished on Jan 16.We also could have benefitted from better information and consultation/education on snow guards. In February we received a lot of snow. The snow sliding off our roof on the north side and dropping onto a second story deck has really caused us some concern. It was 22" deep and had t be shoveled off. I am not sure about what to do in the future and if this is a hazard or if damage will occur to the deck structure. During the initial presentation / ordering Paul asked if we wanted snow guards, but no advice or more in-depth consideration was given pertaining to the design of our residence. We do not get a lot of snow each year, but it should be considered more carefully. We also did not care for the "buy it right now to get the best price" approach. You should drop this high pressure sales technique and your company would benefit - it can cause some trust issues with customers. Hoping to hear back about what we might consider regarding snow issues.
My only suggestion would be to recycle the cardboard packing if possible.
I had a hard time remembering their name. I love my new roof.
See above. Thank you to everyone who helped us throughout this process!

Metal Roofing FAQs for Homeowners in Sudden Valley
The following metal roofing FAQs are designed specifically for homeowners in Sudden Valley, Washington. Whether you are building a new home or replacing an existing roof, understanding how roofing materials perform in local weather conditions is essential. From wind and storm protection to fire resistance, hail impact, snow loads, and coastal moisture exposure, Interlock’s Lifetime Aluminum Roofing System is engineered to provide long-term durability, energy efficiency, and peace of mind in Sudden Valley.
Will a metal roof handle Sudden Valley's freeze-thaw cycles without cracking or deteriorating?
Yes. Aluminum expands and contracts with temperature swings, but it does not absorb water, crack, or degrade from the freeze-thaw cycle. Sudden Valley experiences about 47 freeze-thaw days per year across its 9.7°C average temperature, which stresses traditional materials like asphalt and wood shakes. Interlock's 3105-H24 aluminum alloy has been installed since 1998 in climates ranging from coastal British Columbia to Antarctica, where thermal cycling is extreme. The metal simply moves; it never traps moisture that causes the splitting and curling you see in aged shingles.
How does a metal roof perform with Sudden Valley's heavy snow and ice buildup?
Metal roofs shed snow more effectively than asphalt because the smooth, interlocking surface and thermal properties prevent ice dams. Sudden Valley receives about 43 cm of snow annually across a region averaging 2942 sunshine hours per year, which means thaw cycles are frequent. The Interlock panels' four-way interlocking design locks snow in place if it does accumulate, and optional snow guards can be installed at gutters. The roof's low thermal mass also works with the region's moderate solar exposure to minimize dangerous ice buildup, reducing roof load stress and gutter damage.
Why does aluminum not rust, and why does that matter in a rainy climate like ours?
Aluminum cannot rust because it contains no iron; instead, it forms a transparent oxide layer that self-heals when scratched. In a climate with 1312 mm annual rainfall, this is decisive. Steel roofs corrode from the inside out once their protective coating fails, especially in damp, freeze-thaw conditions. Interlock panels are coated with Alunar 70% PVDF fluorocarbon finish on both sides, warranted 30 years against chalking and fading, so salt spray and moisture do not penetrate. The combination of an inherently non-corrosive base metal and a durable two-sided coating eliminates the slow decay that ends asphalt and steel roofs' lives.
Are metal roofing panels secure enough for Sudden Valley's wind gusts and storms?
Yes. Interlock panels are warranted to resist wind speeds up to 120 mph when installed to specification. Sudden Valley's typical daily winds average 16 km/h with gusts reaching about 100 km/h, well within the rated capacity. The four-way interlocking system mechanically locks each panel to its neighbors, so wind cannot lift or separate them. The ICC-ES evaluation report ESR-1790, reissued 2025 and recognized under IBC/IRC code, confirms the design's structural integrity. This mechanical interlock outperforms fastener-dependent systems that weaken over time as fasteners work loose.
What is the hail rating for a metal roof, and can I save money on homeowners insurance?
Interlock panels carry a UL 2218 Class 4 impact rating—the highest available—and the warranty even covers perforation from hailstones up to 1.5 inches. Many insurers recognize this durability and offer discounts on metal roofs. Sudden Valley's climate includes occasional severe weather with hail risk, so the combination of Class 4 impact resistance and non-combustible aluminum (Class A fire rating available) positions metal roofing as a lower-risk investment to insurers. Contact your homeowner's policy carrier to confirm available discounts; several regional insurers now offer 5–15% premiums reductions for metal roofs meeting these standards.
Do I need to reinforce my home's structure to support a metal roof?
No structural reinforcement is required. The Interlock Tile profile weighs approximately 0.59 lb/sq ft—about 96% lighter than concrete or clay tile—while the Shingle is only about 0.41 lb/sq ft. Most homes can support this weight over their existing roof structure without modification. If your home currently carries asphalt shingles, a metal roof is actually lighter. This lightweight advantage is critical in Sudden Valley's climate, where 43 cm of annual snow and 47 freeze-thaw cycles stress traditional roofs. The lower dead load reduces structural fatigue, lets you install over most existing roofs, and saves the cost and disruption of frame reinforcement.
How much maintenance does a metal roof need compared to asphalt or wood shakes?
Metal requires virtually no maintenance. Asphalt shingles need inspections after heavy wind and hail, with partial replacement every 10–15 years; wood shakes split and curl in Sudden Valley's 47 freeze-thaw days annually and demand regular treatment. Interlock aluminum panels are verified CALGreen-compliant for reduced maintenance—no cleaning, no resealing, no repairs from freeze-thaw damage. In a region with 1312 mm of annual rain and salt-air conditions near the coast, the two-sided Alunar fluorocarbon coating (30-year warranty against chalking and fading) resists the weathering that degrades other materials. Gutters and flashing may need seasonal clearing, but the roof itself remains intact for decades.
Is a metal roof worth the upfront cost over the life of my home?
Yes, when you calculate total cost of ownership. The Guardian lifetime limited warranty is non-prorated for the original owner and transfers once with a 50-year term for the next owner, which adds resale value. Asphalt roofs need replacement every 15–20 years in Sudden Valley's harsh climate (1312 mm rain, 43 cm snow, 47 freeze-thaw days), costing three to five full roof cycles over a 50-year period plus maintenance. A metal roof installed once covers your lifetime and your buyer's term. Current financing available now: no payments and no interest until Spring 2027, or 10% off the installation price. Over 50 years, avoiding tear-off, disposal, and reinstallation costs—plus avoiding insurance rate increases for aging roofs—makes aluminum the lower true cost.
Who installs Interlock metal roofing in Sudden Valley, and how experienced are they?
Interlock Metal Roofing (PNW) Inc. has served Whatcom County and the broader Pacific Northwest since 1997. They understand Sudden Valley's specific climate challenges: 1312 mm annual rainfall, about 43 cm of snow, and freeze-thaw cycles that damage conventional roofs. The installer is familiar with the permitting requirements across the region, local building codes, and proper installation techniques for the ICC-ES ESR-1790 system. They can assess your existing roof, discuss which profile (Slate, Cedar Shingle, Shake, Standing Seam, or Mediterranean Tile) suits your home's style, and explain the current financing promotion. Reach out to discuss your project timeline and to schedule a no-obligation site evaluation.
Can a metal roof reduce my cooling costs in Sudden Valley?
energy-efficient Interlock colors reflect heat that asphalt absorbs, lowering cooling demand. Colors like Aged Copper Penny offer initial solar reflectance up to 0.55 and thermal emissivity of 0.84, reducing surface temperatures. Sudden Valley averages 2942 sunshine hours per year and 9.7°C mean temperature; while heating typically dominates cooling needs here, reflective roofing still reduces peak summer cooling loads during the region's warmer months. More significantly, the metal's low thermal mass prevents heat soak—asphalt absorbs solar energy all day and releases it into your attic, raising both cooling and heating cycles. A reflective metal roof minimizes this thermal swinging, stabilizing attic temperature year-round. This is especially valuable across the 47 annual freeze-thaw days, when the roof's ability to shed thermal stress matters.
