| Spec / Rating | Climate / Risk Factor + What It Solves |
|---|---|
| Wind resistance: 120+ mph (193+ kph) | Extreme wind, hurricanes, storm uplift: full interlocking attachment helps prevent blow-offs, edge lifting, and panel loss in high-gust events. |
| Fire rating: Class A (with proper assembly) | Wildfire, embers, radiant heat, chimney sparks: non-combustible roof assembly provides the highest residential fire protection rating. |
| Hail resistance: UL 2218 Class 4 | Hail and impact debris: highest impact classification; resists cracking, splitting, and surface loss common with asphalt under hail strikes. |
| Snow & ice performance: interlocking, shedding profile | Heavy snow, freeze-thaw, ice dams: smooth aluminum sheds snow efficiently and the interlocking design helps block water intrusion when melt-refreeze cycles occur. (Final snow-load capacity depends on roof structure and local code.) |

What our customers are saying:
We are very pleased with our new roof installed by Interlock Metal Roofing. The house looks beautiful, more than I imagined. You Paul Wright, as our salesman, are appreciated for all the information about the product and the no pressure approach you do. The installers were wonderful. They were great to work with—cleaned the area around the house each night. Our house was three days from start to finish …amazing to watch. We couldn’t be happier with the service and the product.
What a substantial difference the Interlock aluminum roof has made to the appearance of my hundred year old house. The haunted house look changed instantly into desirable real estate. The people who sold me the house have said they wish they had asked more for it now! My previous roofer, who I have used for many years on five different roofs with excellent results; drove by and said he knew it was a good job. He also wanted to recommend Interlock roofing to another customer who wanted something better than composition roofing. The service was great, the sheet metal engineers were industrious, exacting workers, and there have been no problems with anything. It looks so solid and neat; I cannot describe it exactly, but I will never be happy with composition roofing again. The leaves slide right off so it is always clean, and shows off the gables and fancy lines of the house so well... I love it!
Just a few days ago my husband and I were excited to see our new Interlock aluminum roof completed in the gorgeous eye popping finish of copper penny shake topping our newly purchased log home in Bellingham WA. We are so thankful for the signage that the company uses when completing new roofs because when we were first looking at our home and considering a purchase we happened to drive by a house just down the road that had the same " title="copper" data-wpil-keyword-link="linked">copper finish aluminum Interlock roof that we eventually decided on. Seeing this roof installed on another house was the impetus that we needed to call the company and begin our inquiry well before we even purchased our home. We did our homework and considered other roofing materials and companies, but Interlock stood out in our minds as our top choice. The Interlock salesmen, Ross and Paul also went out of their way to come and look at the home and the roofing and bring samples to put on the roof for us to see during our inspection period. They also met with us immediately after closing on a Sunday as we wanted to lock in on a date for installation as soon as we could. We have a very large square footage of roofing, as well as a roof line that is very prominent on the house and we wanted to do something to enhance the stately character for what is definitely a very magical house and property. We have only now owned our house for less than two months, and already have our beautiful new roof completely installed. As we closed on our house in mid-October and we live in the Pacific NW near the Canadian border, this is already a feat. The team of roofers who were sent by Interlock to do our installation were some of the hardest working, most focused, and skilled labor crew we have had the pleasure of coming across. They completed the job in 2.5 weeks, working weekdays and Saturdays, arriving at 7:30 AM and working until 6 PM into the darkness with headlamps on. They worked in rain, cold, and very windy conditions, removing 90,000 lbs. of clay " data-wpil-keyword-link="linked">tile roofing and replacing it with the Interlock 100 year warrantied high quality roofing. The team was extremely respectful, also replacing a skylight that we added to the job mid-way and reinforcing roofing around other skylights that appeared to be leaking. All members of the Interlock company that we have spoken with or had contact with otherwise have been friendly and personable, respectful, and quickly and effectively addressed any questions or issues that we have brought to their attention. We feel safe and secure under our beautiful and functional Interlock roof that is quiet when it rains and lets the water run off in rivulets into the eaves. We thank everyone at Interlock and hope to have a long and successful relationship with Interlock and our new roof.
This is probably the most professional experience I have had in years. I was blown away. From the time I contacted them, they were on time and did exactly what they said they would do the whole way through. Someone is doing an excellent job of directing this company. I need to contact Paul or Ross because I have more roofs to put on. I would give them a rating of 475! My roof cost twice as much as any other bid, but I am ten times happier than I would have been with any other roof. People who see this roof compliment me on it. It will be spectacular once I finish the entire roof. The roof is stunning! There was no snow on the new roof when it stopped snowing last week; the snow simply slid off. It was incredible.

Metal Roofing FAQs for Homeowners in Laurel
The following metal roofing FAQs are designed specifically for homeowners in Laurel, Washington. Whether you are building a new home or replacing an existing roof, understanding how roofing materials perform in local weather conditions is essential. From wind and storm protection to fire resistance, hail impact, snow loads, and coastal moisture exposure, Interlock’s Lifetime Aluminum Roofing System is engineered to provide long-term durability, energy efficiency, and peace of mind in Laurel.
How does a metal roof handle heavy snow in Whatcom County winters?
Metal roofs shed snow effectively because their smooth, hard surface prevents the ice dams that trap water under asphalt shingles. Laurel gets about 35 cm of snow annually with roughly 34 freeze-thaw cycles per year—conditions that crack and curl traditional shingles. Interlock's four-way interlocking aluminum panels, warranted for 120 mph winds, stay secure during winter weather swings. If you want snow to slide off safely, optional snow guards integrate seamlessly into any profile. The lightweight design—Slate at 0.41 lb/sq ft—means zero structural upgrades needed, even with heavy accumulation.
Will a metal roof hold up to Laurel's wind gusts?
Yes, Laurel's typical gusts reaching 117 km/h are well within what Interlock handles. The panels are warranted to resist winds up to 120 mph (193 km/h) when installed to specification, and the four-way interlocking design locks each panel to its neighbors, distributing force evenly across the roof. This interlocking system—not fasteners alone—is what keeps the roof intact. Over a 30-year lifespan, that reliability cuts out the stress of inspections and repairs that plague lighter asphalt roofs in gusty climates.
Can a metal roof rust, especially in wet climates like ours?
Aluminum cannot rust because it contains no iron. Instead, it forms a natural oxide layer that actually self-heals when scratched—a property unique to aluminum. Interlock uses roofing-grade 3105-H24 and 3003-H24 aluminum alloy (ASTM B209), coated on both sides with Alunar 70% PVDF fluorocarbon finish (30-year warranty against chalking and fading). With Laurel averaging 1196 mm of rain yearly, this dual-coat protection is genuine insurance; the roof doesn't weaken in wet conditions the way steel does. The Guardian Warranty explicitly covers rusting for the original owner's lifetime.
Does a metal roof hold up to hail, and can it lower my insurance costs?
Interlock earns a UL 2218 Class 4 impact rating—the highest available—and the warranty covers even perforation from hailstones up to 1.5 inches. The aluminum panels' hardness and the four-way interlocking structure absorb impact without denting or puncturing as asphalt shingles do. Many insurers recognize this durability and offer discounts on homes with Class 4-rated metal roofs. Combined with the 30-year coating warranty and non-combustible Class A fire rating available, the risk profile is so favorable that some homeowners recoup installation costs through premium reductions over time.
Do I need to reinforce my house to support a metal roof?
No structural reinforcement is needed. The Mediterranean Tile profile, for example, installs at about 0.59 lb/sq ft—roughly 96% lighter than concrete or clay tile—and can go directly over most existing roofs. Even the heavier Shake profile weighs only 0.58 lb/sq ft. Because aluminum is so light, older framing handles the load easily, and you avoid the $5,000–$15,000 structural upgrades that traditional tile requires. This also means faster installation and lower labor costs. Interlock's ICC-ES evaluation report ESR-1790 confirms the design meets IBC/IRC codes without reinforcement.
What's the real lifespan of an Interlock metal roof, and what does the warranty cover?
The Guardian Warranty offers a lifetime limited, non-prorated material warranty to the original owner—covering rusting, rotting, splitting, cracking, curling, and loss of impact resistance. The warranty is also transferable once; the next owner gets 50 years of coverage from completion. This addresses the financial reality: a metal roof installed today becomes your last roof, so transferability raises resale appeal. Combined with the 30-year Alunar coating warranty and Laurel's moderate climate—about 3,005 sunshine hours annually—the roof's protective finish remains robust through decades of Pacific Northwest weather.
Is a metal roof cheaper than asphalt when you factor in the whole cost of ownership?
Metal roofs cost more upfront but eliminate the 20-year replacement cycle asphalt demands. Over 50 years, asphalt means three tear-offs and landfill fees; Interlock is a one-time install with no tear-off. Current financing—no payments and no interest until Spring 2027 or 10% off installation—lowers the entry cost significantly. The 30-year coating warranty means no recoating expense. Insurance discounts from the UL 2218 Class 4 rating and non-combustible status further offset the initial investment. When you add avoided repairs from hail (common in gusty climates), snow-load damage, and wind uplift, the total cost of ownership strongly favors metal over a lifetime.
Can a metal roof look like traditional slate, cedar shake, or tile?
Yes. Interlock offers five profiles—Slate, Cedar Shingle, Shake, Standing Seam, and Mediterranean Tile—each molded to replicate the depth, texture, and shadow lines of its namesake material. The Slate profile captures the clean geometry of slate, while Shake mimics the rugged split-wood aesthetic, and Mediterranean Tile delivers the curved pan look. Because these are aluminum panels, not wood or clay, they deliver that visual richness without the fragility, cost, or maintenance burden. All profiles interlock four-way and accept the same protective coatings, so your choice is purely aesthetic—the durability is identical across profiles.
Is a metal roof more environmentally responsible than asphalt?
Substantially. Interlock aluminum is approximately 95% recyclable, and recycled aluminum requires far less energy to produce than virgin material. By contrast, asphalt shingles end up in landfills—over 11 million tons annually in North America. Because Interlock is a 50+ year roof with no tear-offs, you avoid the asphalt waste cycle entirely. The CALGreen-verified reduced-maintenance design also means fewer trips to repair a failing roof, cutting transportation emissions. Over Laurel's typical 1196 mm annual rainfall and variable freeze-thaw cycles that degrade asphalt quickly, choosing a metal roof that won't need replacement for decades is the genuinely green choice.
With Laurel getting over 1,000 mm of rain a year, will a metal roof leak?
No. Heavy rainfall like Laurel's 1196 mm annual average actually favors metal: water runs off hard, smooth aluminum panels without pooling. The four-way interlocking design creates overlaps that channel water downward and outward, and when installed over a solid deck with underlayment (standard practice), the layers work together to shed water exactly as asphalt does—but with less risk of ponding or ice-dam leaks. Asphalt shingles, softer and more porous, absorb moisture over time and fail sooner in perpetually wet climates. Interlock's aluminum design, combined with the sealed interlocks and a properly sloped deck, gives you rock-solid leak protection that improves with age, not deteriorates.
