This is probably the most professional experience I have had in years. I was blown away. From the time I contacted them, they were on time and did exactly what they said they would do the whole way through. Someone is doing an excellent job of directing this company. I need to contact Paul or Ross because I have more roofs to put on. I would give them a rating of 475! My roof cost twice as much as any other bid, but I am ten times happier than I would have been with any other roof. People who see this roof compliment me on it. It will be spectacular once I finish the entire roof. The roof is stunning! There was no snow on the new roof when it stopped snowing last week; the snow simply slid off. It was incredible.

What a substantial difference the Interlock aluminum roof has made to the appearance of my hundred year old house. The haunted house look changed instantly into desirable real estate. The people who sold me the house have said they wish they had asked more for it now! My previous roofer, who I have used for many years on five different roofs with excellent results; drove by and said he knew it was a good job. He also wanted to recommend Interlock roofing to another customer who wanted something better than composition roofing. The service was great, the sheet metal engineers were industrious, exacting workers, and there have been no problems with anything. It looks so solid and neat; I cannot describe it exactly, but I will never be happy with composition roofing again. The leaves slide right off so it is always clean, and shows off the gables and fancy lines of the house so well... I love it!

Review: February 11, 2019

We are very pleased with our new roof installed by Interlock Metal Roofing. The house looks beautiful, more than I imagined. You Paul Wright, as our salesman, are appreciated for all the information about the product and the no pressure approach you do. The installers were wonderful. They were great to work with—cleaned the area around the house each night. Our house was three days from start to finish …amazing to watch. We couldn’t be happier with the service and the product.

Review: December 10, 2020

Just a few days ago my husband and I were excited to see our new Interlock aluminum roof completed in the gorgeous eye popping finish of copper penny shake topping our newly purchased log home in Bellingham WA. We are so thankful for the signage that the company uses when completing new roofs because when we were first looking at our home and considering a purchase we happened to drive by a house just down the road that had the same " title="copper" data-wpil-keyword-link="linked">copper finish aluminum Interlock roof that we eventually decided on. Seeing this roof installed on another house was the impetus that we needed to call the company and begin our inquiry well before we even purchased our home. We did our homework and considered other roofing materials and companies, but Interlock stood out in our minds as our top choice. The Interlock salesmen, Ross and Paul also went out of their way to come and look at the home and the roofing and bring samples to put on the roof for us to see during our inspection period. They also met with us immediately after closing on a Sunday as we wanted to lock in on a date for installation as soon as we could. We have a very large square footage of roofing, as well as a roof line that is very prominent on the house and we wanted to do something to enhance the stately character for what is definitely a very magical house and property. We have only now owned our house for less than two months, and already have our beautiful new roof completely installed. As we closed on our house in mid-October and we live in the Pacific NW near the Canadian border, this is already a feat. The team of roofers who were sent by Interlock to do our installation were some of the hardest working, most focused, and skilled labor crew we have had the pleasure of coming across. They completed the job in 2.5 weeks, working weekdays and Saturdays, arriving at 7:30 AM and working until 6 PM into the darkness with headlamps on. They worked in rain, cold, and very windy conditions, removing 90,000 lbs. of clay " data-wpil-keyword-link="linked">tile roofing and replacing it with the Interlock 100 year warrantied high quality roofing. The team was extremely respectful, also replacing a skylight that we added to the job mid-way and reinforcing roofing around other skylights that appeared to be leaking. All members of the Interlock company that we have spoken with or had contact with otherwise have been friendly and personable, respectful, and quickly and effectively addressed any questions or issues that we have brought to their attention. We feel safe and secure under our beautiful and functional Interlock roof that is quiet when it rains and lets the water run off in rivulets into the eaves. We thank everyone at Interlock and hope to have a long and successful relationship with Interlock and our new roof.

Metal Roofing FAQs for Homeowners in Sumas

The following metal roofing FAQs are designed specifically for homeowners in Sumas, Washington. Whether you are building a new home or replacing an existing roof, understanding how roofing materials perform in local weather conditions is essential. From wind and storm protection to fire resistance, hail impact, snow loads, and coastal moisture exposure, Interlock’s Lifetime Aluminum Roofing System is engineered to provide long-term durability, energy efficiency, and peace of mind in Sumas.

Does metal roofing handle heavy snow and ice buildup in Sumas winters?

Yes. Interlock's four-way interlocking panels shed snow and ice efficiently due to the smooth aluminum surface and engineered panel overlap. Sumas receives about 35 cm of snow annually with roughly 34 freeze-thaw cycles per year—conditions that crack asphalt and wood shingles. Aluminum doesn't split or curl in freeze-thaw stress. The lightweight construction (Shingle at 0.41 lb/sq ft) eliminates the need for structural reinforcement, and optional snow guards can be installed if you want to manage larger slides. The panels' durability through these cycles is backed by the Guardian lifetime limited warranty.

Will a metal roof stay secure during Sumas windstorms?

Yes, the four-way interlocking system is engineered for extreme wind. Whatcom County gusts routinely reach 117 km/h, and Interlock panels are warranted to resist wind speeds up to 120 mph (193 km/h) when installed to specification. The mechanical interlock between panels prevents lift-off—unlike asphalt shingles, which fail by edge separation. Installation follows ICC-ES ESR-1790 guidelines for your region. Combined with the high-wind warranty coverage, this design handles the sustained gusts and variable pressure swings that characterize Pacific Northwest storm systems.

How does metal roofing perform in Sumas's wet climate?

Metal roofing is inherently water-resistant and performs exceptionally well in Sumas's 1196 mm annual rainfall. Water sheds instantly off aluminum—it doesn't absorb, swell, or degrade like asphalt. The four-way interlocking design prevents water from migrating between panels. When installed over a solid deck with underlayment to ICC-ES ESR-1790 standards, the system is equivalent to asphalt in leak resistance but with zero deterioration from moisture. Aluminum oxide self-heals when scratched, so minor handling damage doesn't expose bare metal to corrosion. The result is a permanently leak-free roof in wet climates.

Why won't an aluminum metal roof rust, and does that matter in the Pacific Northwest?

Aluminum cannot rust because it contains no iron. Instead, it forms a naturally occurring oxide layer that seals the surface; this oxide is transparent and regenerates automatically when scratched. Interlock uses roofing-grade 3105-H24 and 3003-H24 aluminum alloy (ASTM B209) plus Alunar 70% PVDF coating on both sides, adding 30-year color and fade protection. In the Pacific Northwest's high-moisture environment—1196 mm rain, coastal salt-air influence, and 34 annual freeze-thaw cycles—this dual-layer protection is unmatched. Steel metal roofing rusts when coatings fail; aluminum simply cannot, making it the only truly corrosion-proof metal roof option.

Is metal roofing safe from hail damage, and can I get insurance savings?

Interlock achieves UL 2218 Class 4 impact rating—the highest available—and the warranty covers perforation from hailstones up to 1.5 inches. Although Sumas doesn't experience frequent large hail, severe weather is becoming less predictable; Class 4 protection is comprehensive. Many insurance carriers recognize the impact resistance and durability of metal roofing and offer premium reductions or discounts on claims. Consult your insurer directly with the UL 2218 Class 4 rating and the Guardian lifetime limited warranty documentation. The non-prorated coverage for the original owner eliminates uncertainty if impact damage occurs.

Is metal roofing worth the initial cost compared to asphalt shingles over the roof's lifetime?

Yes, when you calculate total cost over the roof's life. Asphalt shingles last 15–20 years in Sumas's 1196 mm rainfall and 34 annual freeze-thaw cycles, requiring multiple replacements and landfill disposal. Interlock's Guardian lifetime limited warranty (non-prorated for the original owner) means one installation covers your ownership indefinitely. No tear-offs, no recurring labor, no replacement cycles. The transferable 50-year term to the next owner adds resale value. Additionally, Interlock Metal Roofing (PNW) Inc. is currently offering no payments and no interest until Spring 2027 or 10% off installation—significantly lowering your entry cost.

How much maintenance does a metal roof require?

Virtually none. Metal roofing requires no annual inspections, sealing, re-coating, or repair like asphalt (which deteriorates in Sumas's 1196 mm rain and freeze-thaw cycles). Aluminum does not split, curl, crack, or rot. The Alunar 70% PVDF coating is warranted for 30 years against chalking and fading (ASTM D4214 and D2244 measured), and the substrate never requires treatment. Occasional gutter cleaning applies to any roof. The Guardian warranty covers cracking, curling, rotting, and splitting—problems that plague asphalt and wood in wet climates—with zero maintenance burden on your part.

Is metal roofing actually better for the environment?

Yes. Interlock panels are approximately 95% recyclable aluminum, and the installation process generates zero landfill waste from old roofing. In contrast, typical Sumas asphalt roof tear-offs (triggered by the region's 1196 mm rainfall and 34 freeze-thaw cycles destroying the shingles) send tons to landfills every 15–20 years. A single Interlock installation, with its Guardian lifetime limited warranty, eliminates that cycle entirely. The lightweight aluminum (Tile profile ~96% lighter than concrete or clay tile) requires no structural reinforcement, reducing construction waste. At end-of-life, aluminum scrap recovers value, making it economically and environmentally responsible.

How long does metal roof installation take, and can it go over my existing roof?

Installation timelines vary with roof complexity, but most Sumas homes are completed within 1–3 weeks. One major advantage: metal roofing can install directly over most existing roofs without tear-off, avoiding labor, disposal, and disruption. The lightweight profile (Shingle at 0.41 lb/sq ft) requires no structural reinforcement, so your home's framing handles the load easily. ICC-ES ESR-1790 installation guidelines cover your region. Interlock Metal Roofing (PNW) Inc. has served the area since 1997 and manages the full process—inspection, underlayment, fastening, flashing—with professional efficiency. The current promotion (no payments/interest until Spring 2027 or 10% off) makes now an optimal timing window.

Does a metal roof improve my home's resale value in Sumas?

Yes. Metal roofing adds significant curb appeal and is a genuine selling point for buyers concerned about durability in the Pacific Northwest's 1196 mm rainfall and harsh weather cycles. Buyers recognize that a new asphalt roof will fail again in 15–20 years; a metal roof with the Guardian lifetime limited warranty (transferable to the next owner for 50 years) is a permanent solution. The profiles—Slate, Cedar Shingle, Shake, Mediterranean Tile, Standing Seam—replicate high-end aesthetics while delivering proven performance. The combination of visual appeal, proven weather resistance, and warranty transfer directly translates to buyer confidence and higher listing value.
